Pure entertainment! Good to see you off the beaten track, this car reminds me of riding the most basic of motorbikes and flying the simplest of planes - it's all about the senses.

I've this car since I first saw one, it's a top three all time favorite car for me. While I'll never see a real one I was given a chance to drive a replica as well. What a ride, exactly how you portray it in the video. While I don't care for some of the ways this car was made there's no denying the fun factor in tooling around town and blasting the highway in one of these!! It really should have side pipes is all I'm saying... Great video Nick, I'm glad you got to experience these amazing vehicles!

I had a replica with Rover V8. which I built from a rolling chassis with Jaguar parts. I remember overtaking in second gear starting at 30 mph. I looked at the speedo as I pulled in . I couldn’t believe it. Great car, but some second hand bits, so required maintainance . It made me realise how well made modern cars are. Speed bumps were a problem, and so were police men who stopped you just to look at it. Open air driving is wonderful. Most fun car I ever had. I should have kept , but I’m too old for messing with cars, and driving on congested roads is rarely a pleasure now in England.

Great car! The original is one of the all time classics, though I bet the reality is replicas are potentially even better. As you say, a useable gearbox and proper brakes (always useful!) The 427 was the Bugatti Veyron (maybe that should be Chiron now) of it's day - the fastest accelerating production car - with I think 0-60 around the 4 seconds mark - no doubt someone out there has the actual figure. This was a time when Lambos and such were barely breaking 7 seconds, so this really was in a league of it's own. Not bad for a mongrel created by the great Carroll Shelby - big American V8 in a lightweight British shell. Best of both worlds!

Haha, you had a smile a mile wide! Yes, their exactly like a Caterham 7. You want some real fun, take it for a lap or two around Lime Rock. I have been told on the 351 Windsor engines, that you need to have the Aux fan running during the Summer months in low speed and stop and go traffic to avoid overheating. But for 50k you can beat the fun factor.

My dream/objective is a superformance gt40! Great company Superformance!!

Superformance is one of the best makers of cobra reps. Also do Daytonas and GT40s quite well. Not cheap...and of course each one comes with 12 airbags.

Correction: side pipes WERE accurate for the 427 Cobra, when you're talking the "early models" you are talking about the 289 Cobra derivation... I still remember reading about the '67 Cobra in Playboy and the writer mentioned to caution your dates not to burn their legs on the sidepipes getting into the car... lol

You say the original Cobra had a 427 in1965. But the original Cobra was built in 1962 and had a 260, soon changed to the 289 (which most of them had). Shelby had a lot of trouble selling the later 427s. Great video, btw. These guys are the only legit/licensed replica company afaik. Pete Brock worked with them. They also do a Daytona Coupe and a GT40. Matt Farah reviewed both recently.

Nick, look up the word "cool" in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of this car. Is it practical? NO, Is it drivable in winter? NO....is it a super fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon on the highway and byways of Connecticut? You bet your ass it is !!!! What a great story...thanks for Sharing this with us Nick. If it's a superformance you can call it a continuation since shelby has signed the rights of the shelby cobra (AC) to superformance. If you want the original car you can opt for the graceful british built AC.

Why does no one use a dash cam and run through the gears hard on these cars, like they were meant to be driven?

Nick- inaccurate to call the Superformance make a replicar, which you did seeral times in the video. They are producing under license from Shelby, so the registrations (in US, at least) will show as a Shelby, not as a 'kit car'.

kit cars are so nice. so unfortunate it doesn't have a 427, but still gorgeous nonetheless

Finally a Cobra without side pipes! I love the look but don't think I could own one. Burnt legs aren't my favorite thing in the world

Idk, there's something wrong with me, but I don't find the cobra to be all that attractive, really at all... and the fact that it's a replica, meh... I can however appreciate the engineering of putting a 7.0 L V8 in such a tiny and lightweight package
