Spider-man writers really fucking hate spider-man

For anyone wondering about Dr light let’s just in the comics say he and deathstroke/slade tend to like them young.

It's wild to me how the hatred of Paul entered the mainstream. The insane plots that happen in comics usually stay in niche nerd circles. But not Paul. Humanity has united in hating him.

This is not even a skit, it’s just Solid tearing into the comic book industry for four minutes

For those who don't know the shit with Doctor Light, he sexually assaulted the wife of Elongated Man as well as many other women. It got the point that some members in the League agreed for Zatanna to use her powers to alter his mind so that he wouldn't be a threat but they accidently lobotomized him instead. So yeah, pretty fucked up stuff

Fun fact, the part about the writers making up Hal Jordan's reason for turning evil as they went along is 100% accurate to real life. Because Green Lantern sales were low, they basically shoved aside the previous plans and said "Okay, Hal's evil now, you have 4 issues to explain it, GO."

Western comics in a nutshell. Reuse, recycle, repeat, retcon the same characters over and over and over again. Then multiverses and time travel.

to clarify each of these: One more day (the obvious one which is fully explained in this) a notoriously bad spider man story Mary Jane dating a guy called Paul Hal Jordan becoming Parallax and does a genocide Kyle Rayner's girlfriend was infamously killed off in a really shitty way and her body was shoved in a fridge purely for "character development", it became a trope called fridging to do something similar Dr Light was made from a more generic villain into a full on serial rapist

1:18 I love this because originally writers killed Gwen off for being the boring "just Peter's girlfriend" and everyone loved MJ because of how she felt like her own character and refreshing. Cut to today and Gwen has had SO many glowups and unique story beats (literally across dimensions). Gwen has found so much success in so many unique iterations. Meanwhile MJ has become nothing more than Marvel Editorial plot device to keep Peter at the same status quo. She and Peter are lucky to get else world story where the focus is on their daughter. Gwen ironically dodged a bullet dying. At least we have the new ultimate universe.

Yeah that doctor light part really backfired for the writers because since that "incident" no other writers wanted to touch the character without a six inch stick. They may as well killed him off after the "incident."

the fact that One More Day is still cannon makes me angry.

They did kind of retcon Hal Jordan. Instead of him going insane from the grief and trauma of seeing his home city destroyed, they made it so that he was also possessed by a magical yellow psychic parasite who was the embodiment of the concept of fear in the entire universe.

The plot of One More Day is that Aunt May dies, and Spidey is so sad that he tries to go back in time to save her. When that fails Mephisto, who's like an actual demon from Hell, appears to him and says he will bring Aunt May back, and all in exchange for some reason breaking up his marriage with Mary Jane, so their daughter would never exist and never become the superhero Spidergirl who would have been Mephisto's arch-nemesis in the future. This sounds insane, but that's pretty much what happens.

To be fair, the new Ultimate Spider-Man run has Pete and MJ together again. Like, together together. Married with children together. Supporting each other in their major job decisions together. It's a breath of fresh air.

You should do a skit on the glorious Lord Death Man. He's a Batman villain who wears a halloween skeleton suit and mask and he's really good at faking his death. There's a panel of him where Batman tries to wrestle a gun away from him and it looks amazingly silly. Also he canonically knows the name of every single Pokémon.
