This is the best and most iconic scene in all of the Superman films. You always want to jump up and cheer as Superman catches Lois, and raises the helicopter single-handedly! It is a symbol of heroic triumph. It is a beacon of hope, much like that of the torch held by the Statue of Liberty! Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder are irreplaceable. Forever in the hearts of longtime Superman fans, and in future fans to come!

When I first saw this in the theater, that is exactly what happened. That moment when Clark pulls open his shirt and the music swelled, there was a very prominent stir in the audience. And when he took flight and soared up the side of the building, it was an actual CHEER. Like you'd experience at a football game. Everybody knew it was coming, but when it happened it was an emotional release. SUPERMAN IN ACTION. Even if you've never been near a single comic book in your life, you KNOW who Superman is and what he stands for. And this movie was just... GOOD. No political or social agenda, no influence, no 'interpretation'. It was just... SUPERMAN, doing what Superman does. Excellent source material, spectacular writing, fantastic musical score, and superb acting.

Still evokes the awe I felt when I first saw this as a child. The music, the cheers from the crowd, Lois Lane, the helicopter, the groovy man who said ‘that’s a bad outfit!’, and of course you know who -- all made this scene perfect. As to why we can’t have something that incites the same feelings in today’s superhero movies is completely lost in me.

Still the best Superman put to film. I wish Zack Snyder or anyone involved with the DC movies today understand Superman as well as the people who made this film. He's not supposed to be some grim and brooding god lording above us mere mortals, he's supposed to a be a bright and optimistic symbol of hope. He's supposed to be an example for us to aspire towards, not because he's powerful, but because he's compassionate. Even with all the power in the world, he believes that our lives matter. He's the man who could move mountains, and yet stops to help a cat down out of a tree.

"He's not supposed to be some grim and brooding god lording above us mere mortals" Well he WASN'T in the DCEU. That is the image we, the audience project onto Superman. "He's supposed to a be a bright and optimistic symbol of hope. He's supposed to be an example for us to aspire towards, not because he's powerful, but because he's compassionate. Even with all the power in the world, he believes that our lives matter. He's the man who could move mountains, and yet stops to help a cat down out of a tree." He already is that in the DCEU. Problem is Superman has now found himself in our world in the 21st century. A time where no one can agree what "Truth, Justice, and the American Way" actually means.

@@geoffrobinson true, this guy killed zod, but he didn't get all moody about it. Also, he cared about the collateral damage and about people. Killing zod isn't the issue, it's the fact that he only cries about zods death, not anybody else's, plus there is no logical lead up to the emotions around zods death, and no follow up. It's A cool scene for the heck of it, not because it tracks emotionally.

@@politereminder6284 Zod made him take life, which is why he was in anguish. He cried because he was good in nature and had to take life. Therein lies the difference.

As a young child seeing this movie scene made believe in movie magic and too made me feel Superman was really real. I wish I could have seen it in theaters because I was told that during this scene everybody was on the edge of there seats forgetting to eat there popcorn and drinking there drink. 🙂

You could put John Williams Superman score to a scene of grass growing and it would come off as epic.

Anyone else find his movie so great because in spite of not having the special effects tech we have to today there was a creativity in these films you don't see enough in modern superhero movies? Like him changing at super speed in a revolving door, it's just creative. Who didn't love Clark spinning to change into his costume in Lois & Clark, great nod to the original films.
