This was honestly genius on Lois's part. She decided to test Clark's reaction to being shot at rather than if he was actually bulletproof. That way she wouldn't accidentally kill Clark if she was wrong.
Flavianpec1337 actually he changes how much sunlight gets into his eyes and it makes it seem like he’s another person by changing how we see his eye color
According to how his powerworks. His body is covered in a forcefield that leaves a gap enough to protect his clothes aswell. (How they explain his clothes not getting destroyed) so technically the bullets never even touch him. So he never feels them
@@kingsiree this diffenetly sounds like coming from a guy who didn't watch shazam anyways let me spoil it for you In. The supermarket scene shazam ask the robers to shoot him with the guns and the bullets seems to hit his body normally he isn't made of steel like superman (remember in bvs when batman punched superman on the face using that heavy armor and on impact it produced a heavy metal sound) So shazam cheeks turned bright red after getting shot multiple times and complaing that it tickles
I love how Reeve played the characters completely separately like two totally separate personalities. Like a split personality. I think it’s what the Cavill movies were missing. It was the personality, the posture and mannerisms that were the disguise, not the glasses.
You cant really expect cavill superman to act like that. When he was not even superman. And his first opponent was literally the most powerful being of his race
Kinda reminds me of Samuel L Jackson, Stephen Character in Django after the white peoples are killed off, and he no longer needs to fake that he’s a cripple anymore.
Standing tall and crossing arms is all it takes for him to become Superman. Getting goosebumps even after all those years of seeing this in a cinema when I was a kid.
One of the things I love that I think is overlooked is that this scene reveals Lois' care for Clark. She needs to find out the truth, she's pretty sure she ALREADY knows the truth, but God forbid she's wrong she doesn't want Clark to be hurt. Even if her aim was non-fatal, Clark's safety comes first.
The 90s television Lois (Teri Hatcher) had actually fallen in love with Clark by the time she found out - so she had a hurt reaction, "The man I risked giving my heart to kept this big secret from me" - which seems understandable in that context, but I enjoy this Lois happy about finding out - like she feels she's "caught" him because she knows. And it does lead to some romance between them. But I think this Lois sees Clark Kent as not existing - just Superman's disguise.
I'd feel so retarded. Dc can not do secret identities well. Edit: Some of you are getting confused and think I hate this film over the 1 mistake of Superman. This is still our best Superman imo in live action and last good one we will probably get because our current one is an edge Lord. Quit mistaken me for a hater.
@@ccelite3782 Superman can indeed feel. His alien anatomy allows him to shift the density and gravity around him to change his speed and strength. Superman is as powerful as he needs to be as long as there is a yellow sun to give him sustenance.
I love that people honestly believe that its just the glasses but if you look at him, his entire demeanor and body language changes as well. Even before he takes the glasses off, the aura around him shifts from bumbling to confident.
When people ask how nobody can tell Clark is Superman, I just send them this. This is how. Plus, when he 'switches' hes still wearing the glasses, and its very clearly just Superman in a suit and glasses. But before that? I wouldn't have passed that dude in Metropolis and thought 'hey is that Superman?' _That's_ how the disguise works
0:35 this reaction is perfect. She’s not shocked he’s alive because she knew there were blanks. She’s in shock because of the realization that he’s really Superman.
I really appreciate just how good this reveal is. Her plan didn't endanger herself nor Clark, and she literally outsmarted Superman which is so Lois. I don't know why adaptations after this tends to use her stupid jumping plan instead considering that it ultimately failed.
I love the fact that Lois pranked Clark that good by getting to know his identity at all cost and then he took off his glasses realizing that she bluffed him. Exactly the way she done that to him was hilarious.
He takes the glasses before she tells him the bullets are blanks. He pulled the glasses to do a REALLY big speech about she almost killing someone, just to notice she had read him like a book and give up.
@@kruk_7279 No, dummy, he DIDN'T know the bullets were blanks; otherwise, he would not have shamed Lois for the stunt under the assumption that the bullets were real! Lois had to reveal to Kal-El that she was using blanks so that Clark was "never in danger." Regardless, this scene - as well as the Donner Cut, for that matter - is so ridiculous that only an unthinking mouth-breather could like it. After all, a properly drawn Superman would know that Lois was using blanks because of his super sight/speed/etc. But *this* Superman did not - again, did NOT - know that a bullet wasn't in the chamber. To put it bluntly, Donner, Puzo, Newman, and the creative team for this film in general are clowns when it comes to conveying Superman's powers and limitations.
This scene makes me tear up. Both cuts of the film have their issues but this may be the single greatest depiction of Clark/Superman ever. The way his physicality changes is incredible.
Whenever someone says "how can people not tell Clark is Superman, he's just wearing glasses" I send them this clip. Because Reeve literally just...tranaforms into another person. I doubt any portrayal of Superman will ever come close
Kona Fenske well yeah the whole point of Clark Kent is that he’s kind of a weak dork of a guy so no one would think he could possibly be superman. Superman is his real personality. This ain’t hard to understand lmao
@@kellysmith2075 That depends on after effects tools not having objects and effects ready to use so an amateur can do amazing looking work. Some studios might find it preferable to have a large digital wardrobe vs physical. Much lower cost for storage and easier to find the exact object you want. And reduce inconsistencies between takes and scenes. CGI is mostly computationally inexpensive now. You just need someone who can guarantee to apply them in a way that looks real.
I love the implication that hes so strong he cant even tell he hasn't been shot, he just knows hes caught. His only other solution would be to catch or dodge the bullet, things a normal person couldnt do. He just knows that if she pulls the trigger hes caught.
Superman: You realize, of course, if you'd been wrong Clark Kent would have been killed. Lois: Well, they're blank. Superman: Takes he's glasses back on. Lois: Clark ! Superman was here !
I have no idea how he pulled it off, but after the shot he suddenly went from being Clark Kent to being Superman with glasses on. What a phenomenal actor.
Its a combination of everything: the way he talks, the lack of confidence, the slightly hunched over without a firm stance. The glasses are the cherry on top that sells the identity of Clark Kent.
@@ThatLaloBoy Not to mention that in some instances (not sure about here but def in animated versions) he also wears clothing that's a size or two too big for him to hide his physique.
@@tomcoburn5258he isn’t trying to fool the comic book readers or the movie goers with his glasses identity. He’s doing it to Metropolis city people and the rest of the world within the franchise. That’s what people never seem to convey when watching Clark Kent, seeing glasses and assuming “that doesn’t fool anybody 😂”
Honestly, perfect part was her mentioning the blanks. If she was wrong, no one would be hurt, worst is she might seem a little more crazy to Clark lmao
Meanwhile, in the alternate reality where Clark isn't Superman, the Daily Planet headline reads "Reporter dies of heart attack. Lois Lane arrested for manslaughter."
He looked like a disappointed father. "Well, you did it. Are you happy now? Are you proud of yourself? I thought you were better than this?" Meanwhile, Lois is too caught up on that moment to understand the part where that's her problem.
I honestly love how pissed he looks. He's really not happy that she figured it out. This, right here, is why they've had such a hard time getting a new Superman franchise going in all the years after the originals. I'm not sure anyone can ever top Christopher Reeve's performance.
Everyone's losing their minds on Lois jumping off a bridge to make Clark confess in My Adventiures with Superman. Meanwhile, Lois in this movie just pulled out a gun.
I like how Clark just stands there after being shot. He wants to maintain his identity as only Clark Kent, but also doesn't wanna make lois believe she actually just shot and killed a man so he just stood there and stared back at her lol
Lois: *shoots gun* Clark: *falls over* Lois: “haha very funny Clark I know you’re Superman now get up...Clark?” *superman enters* hows my twin brother who crash landed with me on earth but wasn’t blessed with superhuman powers doing?
Thank goodness Superman. Some crazed mad man shot your twin brother and ran off laughing with evil intent. He also planted a gun in my purse. How could someone be so evil. The humanity.
It's never discussed in the movies, but in the comics (and the Lois & Clark show from the 90s), he has to concentrate to use his superspeed. It's not always active.
C. Moore or he’s still Superman but there’s a kryptonite bullet in the gun so she just killed Superman and then goes to prison for life with knowledge she killed Superman
It was so subtle but with the music and everything it’s such a nuanced but incredible performance. It reminds me of the Batman 1966 episode where Bruce talks to Batman on separate phones and changes his voice just enough to make it sound like two different people
We're all digging the new Tomboy Lois, but this version of Lois was quite the Cutie Patootie herself. Also, blanks at close range are no joke. It's like having the hot end of a rocket pointed at you.
I prefer the theratical cut of this scene, where clark trips and accidentally put his and in the fire. By that time lois is successfully convinced Clark and superman are two diffrient people, so it makes the reveal of her finding out she was right that more surprsinibg to lois. I also really like how Clark tries to cover it up as best as possible before just giving up, and letting his anger out a bit. Finally losi and Clark conversation after that scene where they both don't know what to do now, is really great. Honestly I like some scenes in the theratical version a bit more that the donor cut, and vice versa. I
@@t.v.rockwell4504 Well in the whole movie nobody could even realize he resembles Superman which is ridiculous. The whole Superman disguise is just one big joke. The only one they got it right was Smallville

Clark: "Lois, seriously, I'm not Superman!" *gets shot and falls down* Lois: "Nice try, Clark." Clark: *Has red bleeding through his shirt* Lois: "V-Very funny, Clark. I know you're Superman." Superman: "Lois, are you alright? I heard a gunshot. What happened to Clark?!" Lois: 😬
Cut to the next scene and she’s haphazardly digging a grave while she crying and muttering to herself about all the reasons why she was sure it was him.
Christopher’s acting is just Legendary. Notice that mannerism shift when he switches from Clark to Superman. It’s SO seamless. His voice becomes more assertive, he straightens his back, etc. He was born for this role.
@@TheSpartanL106 yes. With a blank its still assualt with a deadly weapon in Arizona. In Arizona it's assualt with a deadly weapon if the victim believes he's going to die or be seriously injured with a blank pistol. (Bruce Lee's son died because of one of those) For example. I reveal a gun and point it at you. I tell you I'm going to shoot you but... I dont. When the police show up it's revealed I'm carrying a cardboard card. Not a gun... That's aggravated assualt.
Wat about Clark? U mention Lois but wat about Clark? Was it something like he scolding her but u erased cuz u realized that’s much like mansplaing and u don’t want to get cancelled? Well f that. I’m beluga and I can’t be canceled. He supermansplained her
I just love how after she busts him, he's in full on Superman mode. He’s not mad that she figured him out, he’s mad because she could’ve really killed someone.
Yeah but honestly it doesn’t make much sense… Superman would’ve seen the bullet coming out of the gun and he could’ve easily told the difference between a bullet (that would’ve come for him) and a blank
@@joveluna8245 At that range a blank would have terribly wounded him if not killed him. Actors have died from accidents involving blanks. Edit: Based on replies, I was incorrect as the blank would maybe hurt but would not really injure or kill the actor in this scene. However firing a blank at point blank might.
@@blitzwaffe There was at least like 4 feet between them, although it is hard to see with how the scene is shot. Though I wouldn't say Clark would not be able to feel it, I don't think there would be enough force to injure let alone kill him (if he was human of course).
I've already seen counter-arguments against this. Clark has been taught to hide his powers so much that at times, he may forget he has them. There's a very human clumsiness inherent in him that comes from how he was raised. The shock of having a gun pointed at him plus the shock of it being fired PLUS the fact that it's LOIS FIRING IT may have grabbed his attention so much that it wouldn't occur to him to look for a bullet It's like the scene in Knives Out where Marta is stabbed with a prop knife. She's been in the house and around that display enough times, she SHOULD know what a fake knife looks like. But learning Ransom is the murderer, plus the shock of him pulling a weapon on her, plus him actually LUNGING TO KILL HER, would all be enough to distract her from smaller details Remember: Clark may not have been born on Earth, but he was raised here. In all important ways, he is human.
@@mc-rn8ro if you see an object moving towards you at 1cm per hour, wouldn't you see it no matter how "shocked" you are? Would you forget you can walk or hear just because you are an actor? Besides Superman is SUPER, he doesnt make that kind of mistakes.
Marvel's tech is much more grounded in reality. Shield knew everyone's secret identity even before the license initiative in civil war. That's why D.C. Makes no sense sometimes. Like how hard is it for them to track a super hero that's not flash or superman (outrun anyone) like batman disappears in this alley here (into bat cave secret entrance) if it were marvel they'd send in their best agent (black widow) to basically just walk into the bat cave but, that's not possible in the world of DC
Thats because no one is actually trying to find their identity that often, besides, not many have satellite level resources in DC except like batman or Lex
Blim The Toolman Right?! I’m not gonna pick a bone with DC since they are everything to me but seriously, how hard is it to identify someone who most likely lives in or near the city that has access to insane amounts of high tech and resources and has been showing up around the city for years? I think it’s a job that even the most amateur of detectives can solve 😂
oontur- mench u have to know that in the comics a lot of people found out who Batman is that way but how the guy said before no normal person tried to find out the secret
Everyone in the comments saying how it's just clarks glasses that hide his alterego. When Lois fires the gun his whole body personality changes. He stands up stright, jaw line gets stronger, Voice gets stronger more confident and he pumps his chest out full. What a truly great actor that understood this role.
Reeves was a seasoned theatrical actor before he landed this role. Theater is much more demanding than cinema or tv, no reshoots, no cuts and only improvisation if you gaff it up. A great actor in every regard, too bad he left us so soon.
@@Malky24 Tom Mankiewicz explained it to Christopher Reeve that he was always playing Superman, but when he was Clark, he was playing Superman as Clark.
Dude, the posture change, the change in the entire body language, going from the bumbling Clark Kent to Superman. It's insane to me that everyone thinks its just the glasses to this day.
@@FuNWithAChemicaLBomb but the fact is that it was a blank..his senses are stronger than that, so he would've noticed in an instant, even if it came unexpectedly...but I can't complain too much Lol it's an older movie
That's what I thought. He would have seen there was no bullet coming out the gun before Lois could blink. That's why for me, this scene spoils the illusion of Superman, and Donner had proven himself to be a better illusionist than that.
Everyone takes the mick that no one recognises him with the glasses but with Christopher reaves it was never just the glasses it’s his posture his facial expression the way he carry’s him self he makes the two characters look sooo different he was truly brilliant
