This is some straight beautiful golden age nonsense and I love it

This story made me tear up with how good it was lol. Thank goodness Superman comics are good again!!

I love how Peter Tomasi shows how the relationship between Jon and Clark is way better than that of Bruce and Damian even tho he wrote the Batman and Robin comic book series himself.

Man you're lucky to have these good stories to compliment your skills in narration. Its truly a good time to be a comic fan

HOLD UP! Wait a minute. Isn't this the second time Krypto got eaten or at least consumed since Rebirth? Yes I know Superman saved him the first time, but if DC does not leave my third favorite super-pet alone I am writing a very nasty letter. You never see Marvel doing that to Lockjaw or Lockheed. :p

I love that you keep explaining retcon for anyone who may not have been here from the beginning. It has really helped me out in the past and I know other people appreciate it too

I'm so excited for Super Sons coming out next year. It's gonna have Jonathan Kent teaming up with Damian Wayne (one of my favorite Batman characters!!!!!)

New 52 Superman costume was dope!

Man it seems like every previous Superman comic was just a massive precursor for this line of Superman comics. I used to think Batman was the shit (don't get me wrong, I'd put my money on Batman every time no matter how powerful the enemy) but this Pre-new 52 Superman and son are really holding me in my place as far as D.C. Comics go.

the fog is really the fog from the Superman 64 game. they really are mixing together the best of the best in DC rebirth

Sgt Rock of Easy Company was cool reading .Back in the late 70's and early 80's , And the Haunted Tank where in DC right up to Crisis on Infinite Earths .After all the World War 2 stuff went away in comics , But I do like how this does bridge the gap from that time to this time ,Well Rob that was cool story with Superman in it .And his son doing a little Adventure on old Dinosaur Island .

I wish Rob had not skipped decades of Superman stories after putting that title on this playlist

i think the device that Jon made is seting up future stories of multiverse traveling, because a very similar device was showed in the stories from grant morrison in the new 52 about multiverse where superman was black and the president, the patern in the device looks similar with the diference that the other device was bigger

@ComicsExplained The gorilla may be the Ultra Humanite. Ultra Humanite was also Superman's arch nemesis before they created Lex Luthor. He had powers in mind transference, telepathy, and mind control. Eventually, he swapped his mind from the crippled body he was in, into a white furred gorilla. And he stayed in this form for the most part until he was reintroduced in the JSA comic series under Geoff Johns, when he really changed up the character, and had him actually succeed in taking over the world (great story).

I wonder if this octopus thig is related to the huge tentacle beast in watchmen?

It is so cool to see the Losers again! Even if it is just a death story. One of those cool comics from yesteryear. My feeling is that the gorilla is just a gorilla. But it MIGHT be the Ultra-Humanite from Earth 2. But Ultra-Humanite could talk, so it's probably not.

I had to watch this video twice. You seem to be going through this story a little fast. Your voice overs sound best when you take your time with it. I like your relaxing explanations.

New 52 Superman wasn't "dark or gritty" he was Superman as he's always been just more of an actual character. Superman "fans" complaining about him are so damn annoying.

The "gorilla" is obviously a re-imagined Ultra-Humanite, who (in his original human mad scientist form) was the very first super-villain Superman ever faced off against. He's wearing the super-gorilla body that replaced his original wheelchair-bound one back in 1981 and the army of mind-controlled beasts is typical of his style. Always did like mind-control and body-swapping, that one. Not even all that old & obscure a character, he made plenty of appearances in the animated series.

it Jonathan Smith, not Jonathan kent. when New 52 started and Superman Family came over, they changed their names from Kents to the Whites. Recently with Rebirth changed their last name Whites to Smiths.

my favorite moment in that story was when superman was talking to superbly about how they were gonna make it home and superbly is crying oh man good stuff

Hey Rob could you do Superman issue #7? I feel like that comic is a very great comic showing the family side to Superman him being a great dad & husband :)

Thewre us no mention anywhere in this volume about the fact that Storm, who should be on the far side of 100 years old, but is virtually unchanged since World War 2. This alone, combined with Storm's reluctance to return home and the fact that we never actually saw him die, might suggest that we might not have seen the last of Storm or Monster Island and the mystery of the giant gorilla's eye.

This episode is amazing. I'd fallen off in reading comics but I think I need to swing down to the local comic store later and ask if they got any issues of Superman Rebirth.

Both Grodd & Ultra have used Dino Island, but I think it's Ultra: not only is it white, but Ultra pretty sure set up shop here more than once in the past & had the Suicide Squad/military/Batman come after him.

People might best know The Losers as the group from the movie version titled...The Losers. LOL Jeffery Dean Morgan, the actor who plays Negan in Walking Dead as the leader of the group. Zoe Saldana as the eye candy and female supporting lead.

The first beast they fought was a Dunkleosteus, a heavily armored fish and one of the first superpredators to ever evolve. The "pterodactyls" are likely inspired by Ornithocheirid-type pterosaurs based on the dentition and keel crest along the jaws. Pterosaurs (which aren't dinosaurs) in this family weren't this large in life - topping at about twenty-seven feet in Tropeognathus. The albino gorilla is likely Ultra-Humanite. A well-known tech and biological genius, this guy is a master of villainy. In his early run during the Golden Age, he was a scientist hired by Nazis and used his ability to implant his brain into other animals and people.

That gorilla is the Ultra-Humanite. He was Superman's first big bad. He was kind of like Lex Luthor before Lex Luthor.

I think you made a mistake, Rob. Superman pulled another artefact out of the gorrila's eye (socket) which in turn looks familiar to the one they saw in that sea monster. Jon was the one who found the transportation device in some old junk (old diver's helmet?).

I'm fine with the dinosaurs being unrealistic. The New Frontier dinosausrs were never supposed to be realistic in the first place, but inspired by dinosaurs in popular culture from the 50s.
