@@mattg1611 Yeah, I notice these studio like to do that with characters who will be in multiple movies. They always start with moderate or mediocre looking costumes in the beginning and upgrade throughout their subsequent appearences. Happened with Spiderman, Captain American, and some of the Guardians in the MCU. -- I would still try to make the first costumes look decent though, and really only Mr. Terrific looks good enough here.
You haven’t read enough Guy Gardner. On the surface level, he’s a jerk. But he’s actually a hero with his own internal struggles. He struggles with his anger and his father’s disappointment in him
I don't have a problem with Sean Gunn being in the movie because he's a talented actor but don't think he's right for Maxwell Lord. Nathan Fillion would actually be better as Lord.
@MadMax-ot3fi Scorsese, Nolan, and many other great directors keep hiring the same actors, including as lead characters, whereas Gunn only really keeps hiring the same actors in some supporting roles (large and small).
@@MadMax-ot3fi the only actor he has worked with before that we know for certain is in Superman is Nathan Fillion, MAYBE Sean Gunn appears as Max Lord briefly. That's 2 actors in supporting roles, it's not a big deal. He doesn't just cast them willy-nilly in roles that don't fit them, if he casts someone it's because he knows they can do justice to the way he has written the character
the theory is all the heroes we see in this movie is wearing a corporate super hero suit, they all have the same logo except for superman who's wearing a real hero costume
Mr. Terrific and Hawkgirl are cool and all, but if I see them and Superman on either side, I’m going to Superman every time lol. Nothing weird about that. It’s Superman lol
I think Nathon should really be playing Alan Scott instead who was the first human Lantern. Scott could be a mentor to Hal and John in that Lantern series, who would then mentor Guy.
of course superman has more appeal than the other heroes, nobody knows who mister terrific and hawkgirl even are if you ask the average person, a kid would love to meet superman, no kid knows who mister terrific even is
Will Reeves is an ABC news correspondent, I think putting him in is the coolest cameo seeing reporters in the real world have played themselves in films. This just has a little deeper of a feeling and homage to the MAN, Chris Muhfu#$! REEVES!!!! lol
I agree about these costumes - it's particularly bothersome that they'd put Guy Gardner in the film, and NOT give him the double-breasted jacket/vest! That's, like, the coolest thing about his costume, and what makes it unique - why put him in the same motorcycle jacket that they are all wearing?
The movie should be made for the guys in the back of the comic shop. If it wasn’t for the guys in the back of the comic shop the characters would not be here today.
Grace if she likes the costume - OH, I like it, it's so comic accurate! Grace if she doesn't like the costume - I don't care if it's comic accurate, it's not cool enough! 😄
I can't stand the random romantic pairings in JLU. And it isn't recent; you're way overestimating its lasting impact on today's general audience. Shiera/Shayera and Carter/Katar are iconic as eternally reincarnated lovers. Kendra can date whomever, including John Stewart.
I think you are underestimating how big those cartoons were. I may not be 100 comics accurate, but it was very popular and has or had a strong fanbase with comic and casual fans. I bet if DCEU adapted the cartoons they would be in better shape than they are now
@animecrackreview254 Shayera and Katar have been made part of Shiera's and Carter's reincarnation cycle in post-Crisis canon. And while the Hawks have infamously gone through more continuity revamps than most others, this is also the current canon. Read their phantastic most recent Hawkman series from a couple of years ago.
Yes exactly my thought. I like the jlu romance but I’d much rather have a comics accurate portrayal. Hawkman and Hawkgirl have such a great tragic story.
That's the way I feel, too. I feel like these are not their actual looks; they're their company looks. That's why I'm not feeling the need to scrutinise them too harshly.
@@festo512 I don't know. It seems odd. Hopefully there's a logical explanation. Gardner looks the least accurate out of all these guys, so I do understand his fans not being thrilled.
@@festo512Begrudgingly most likely. I doubt superheroes are trusted in this world so being corporate is the easiest way to do the job plus he gets notoriety no doubt
I have more faith than others in this movie; I believe in Gunn, and judging nonofficial screenshots from the film without context, color grading, and everything involved in the film's finished product is silly. It involves a lot of assumptions and judging with very little information. That being said, after seeing these pictures, I am nervous.
If this were a period piece like the Fantastic 4, then the looks would be perfect. In fact, if this were a period piece, then I think this movie will go over very well
I never judge the suits from the bts pics because i remember the Black Panther suit looking aaawful in the bts for Civil War and in the movie it looked stunning. So no judgement from me until the trailer.
Grace, just let the movie play out first before you judge the look of the costumes. It could very well be a plot point or part of the story where yes, Mister Terrific is the smartest but that makes Lord jealous so he forces him on this team that Lord is the “leader” of. Guy’s suit looks the same for that reason, maybe he flubbed up a recent alien attack and now he’s stuck doing “community service” by having to spend time on this team. Hence the outfit looks the same. Without knowing literally anything, it seems unfair to crap all over the choices made.
"You'd think some kids would be inspired seeing themselves reflected in those heroes." Kids don't care about stuff. They're colourblind. They'd all run to Superman because he's the coolest. And maybe to Hawkgirl because of the pretty bird wings. lol
I think the suits are purposefully bad. I think Superman is supposed to be the beacon of hope and inspiration somehow in the story, and in turn, we’ll get the more classic looking outfits towards the end
Personally I feel this movie is DOA it's a Gunn vanity project in a time where superhero movies are in decline it's not 2014 you need something extraordinary this ain't it
There are 3 versions of latina kendra hawkgirl by the way. The latina actress in the dcu is playing the brown latina version who is pre-flashpoint dc comics. The new version of kendra is a post flash point a black bi-racial latina. The black latina version was first shown in earth 2 comics who is called kendra munoz-saunders and a version of her was played in the arrowverse. The new version of her was shown in main dc universe later called kendra saunders. Anyway the kendra comics art picture that youtube vids kept showing is the black bi-racial version, but the actress is brown, not black. The comics art picture that needs to shown is the brown version of kendra, the first version who is pre-flashpoint.
Its becoming increasingly obvious Grace hasn't seen much of Isabela's filmography because she's an amazing actress and perfectly cast. Every good actor has been in bad stuff and been given bad material
When I found out Gunn was using the same costume designer from his other films, I rolled my eyes. I knew this would be the outcome, so I’m not surprised AT ALL. I ALSO have zero faith in the score
Pretty sure Gunn stated he was going with a more heroic Maxwell lord like his earlier JLE and JLI runs so him working with the heroes like Mister Terrific tracks - also tbh now I'm not so sure Shiera is the most known Hawkgirl anymore. most people I know usually go by the Halls.
I’m so excited for this movie. You can tell Gunn really loves these characters and knows the IP so well. Really excited for the Reeves cameo, such a special tribute 🥹
I don’t know how much these secondary characters are going to be in the movie, but it gives me a similar feeling to Gunn’s suicide squad where so many were killed off within minutes. Maybe these costumes or the characters will only be around for a scene or two.
3:49 It’s fine. Either way it’s an Easter egg and that’s it. Saying you don’t know how you feel about it and sighing like that makes it seem so sinister. Did Gunn put his wife in it too? Which is also fine. I mean I’ve never heard you say one word about it being messed up that Leslye Headland cast her wife Rebecca Henderson in the Acolyte.
Is it possible Gardner will be played as if he's the only Green Lantern, only to be revealed as a liar and an idiot with an ending reveal of the Green Lantern Corps?
The leather uniforms look like they would look perfect next to Patterson's Batman. The styling looks like the metropolis version of that Batverse tbh - it feels like Gunn ideally wanted to align with Reeves, then refused to pivot when he was turned down lol
I’m seriously hoping either James Gunn is messing with us with these leaked photos OR the outfits will literally be mostly CGI’d to make them all look better. Either way I CANNOT wait to watch the movie.
Good video as always Grace. Nathan Fillion may not be an A list movie star, but he has been a TV star for decades; he might bring plenty of fans with him.
shayera is hawkWOMAN. and that cartoon as iconic as it is, has done more harm than good to her character. for starters, the general public can’t tell the obvious differences between her and kendra because they don’t actually care about her character. they simply know “hawkgirl” but they don’t understand her identity or lore outside of that. and as for john and shayera’s relationship, it’s nothing compared to the hawks romance in the comics. if given the opportunity of a PROPER adaptation, the general public could come to really love the characters REAL hawkgirl/hawkwoman fans have known all along, rather than outdated, inaccurate versions of a character whose fanbase is fueled by blind nostalgia instead of genuine understanding.
@@sandal_thong8631 both. they are all connected through reincarnation. howver the chain of resurrection broke during the totality event in rebirth, which is how the human and thangarian hawks coexist
I don’t understand why James Gunn often have such bad costumes and looks for his characters. Just because it’s something that he maybe isin’t very interested in, doesn’t mean it’s not important to the audience.
@@CYeoung And from the behind-the-scenes photos he’s doing his favorite character justice. His Superman looks exactly like Superman and is shown saving people with a smile on his face It already puts him above Zack Snyder‘s mopey edgy, Michael Bay, alien scale dark suit wearing Superman Lmao
True, even in Gaurdians, some of the costumes and designs are just kind of lame and TOO quirky or wacky. Even though the movie was cool, it has that wacky aspect that gaurantees a childish element to everything g that’s aired to take serious. Anytime I see James Gibbs brother for instance, he always looks so out of place. Even Drax and the green chick, their makeup is always a little too vibrant and just looks like it was made the people behind Galaxy Quest. Which again, some of that is likely purposeful and homage to wacky space programming of the past. But some of it just sucks.
wy do a lantern and a hawk wear the same uniform? they are clearly i the same team, but is it ok for a member of the lantern corps to wear the uniform of a different organisation and even use the power in the name of that new group? strange? and it does not even look that great. the green is way to dark.
Everything I'm seeing here looks fine. I'm not blown away by any of the costumes, but I'm not as pessimistic as some people, either. This could be good. Introducing this many characters simultaneously would normally be a risky manoeuvre, but Gunn has experience with ensemble casts. He could pull it off and get the DCU off to a running start. I'm sure that's the intention.
