Ah, the infamous New52. At least Green lantern was interesting. Superman x Lois and Cyborg x Titans, those are things that should never be changed.

So I’m going to take an educated guess that cheetah x Diana is a popular ship.

Maybe it's just me but there were times in the New 52 that it seemed like they were trying too hard to get Superman and Wonder Woman together. I think I may be also bias because I loved Batman and Wonder Woman together in the Justice League animated series.

Having grown up with the Teen Titans cartoon, I much prefer to have Cyborg with them. If they had a progression where he moves on from the Teen Titans/Titans to the Justice League, it would feel more earned/natural. Plus, it means we don't have Martian Manhunter, and that is a big shame.

What I find funny is that Superman tells Diana there is life outside the Watchtower, but Cyborg is living on the Watchtower almost completely separated from humanity and no one is telling him that he should get out more. I mean Diana has a life in the world, but Cyborg no you can stay in a space station far away from everyone.

Thank you, Sasha, for covering this comic; I've been meaning to read it for a while now. It's honestly not the most well written Wonder Woman comic, but I did admire how they depicted Cheetah in this. In most mediums, Cheetah is depicted as just someone with claws, but here they show her mystic abilities and how she can hold her own--or be a worthy adversary--to Wonder Woman. The only issue is I dislike this Barbara Minerva; I didn't sense there was much depth between Barbara and Diana's friendship, hence the impact in the end wasn't as meaningful as it was intended to be.

What else did Superman transform into? I know he transforms into Doomsday in another New 52 story, and I think into Darkseid as well, what else did New 52 did to him?

This a great story with Superman becoming a Cheetah, drawn well, but you can’t replace Urzkartaga. Great timing with this video too dropping on the exciting news Wonder Woman 1984 is coming to HBOMax.

Yes for Cheetah making cat noises, since those are closer to actual cheetah noises than the generic big cat sounds we usually see. 🐆 It's interesting how the New 52 took a few cues from Superfriends, what with Cyborg being on the Justice League and Captain Marvel being named Shazam. Speaking of Superfriends, have you read the 2019 Wonder Twins comic? It's very good.

Outcast Superman is one of the more relatable aspects of his character for me. It makes the most sense. And it adds more depth to the character which allows for more internal conflict, instead of being a physical villain for him to overcome. He didn't grow up on Krypton like his cousin and Zodd did, so he's an outcast to them - but he's not human and doesn't really fully fit in on Earth either. While they touch upon it in the New 52, I especially love how they explored it in Earth One Superman: he purposely dumbed down his school grades so he didn't stand out; he could pretty much do anything and walk into any job but nothing really fulfilled him on a deeper level. His outcast nature isolates him and causes him to hold himself back, not just by pulling punches in fights. It makes him more of a thinker: how to stop enemies without killing them or causing collateral damage (Superman vs The Elite explores this further), and less of a punchy punchy "dumb brute" that so many Batman fans like to claim of him. In the New 52, Batman also explains to the League that Superman sees things differently. As an outsider and from the point of view of an investigative reporter. I like how they incorporated things like this more into his character. And that he was trying to use his voice as reporter-Clark to do just as much good as he does as the beacon of Hope that is Superman.

I have been patiently waiting for you to bring up the Superman Were-Cheetah story. Your one of the very best comic book aficionados that actually knows their stuff. I knew you wouldn’t let me down. 👍

I wish the new 52 justice league had kept its core members. It started with a good group but then right after this adventure Hal Jordan went back to space, Aquaman was came and went, they tried adding new characters before establishing the original ones. And they're where just to many events and no consistent story style. Bad guy shows up, the 7 stop them, rinse and repeat, easy peasy instead of every 5 minutes the universe in dying. We still haven't gone back to that in any comics to be honest with you.

So I have to agree as far as Cyborg is concerned; I was reading the 1980's New Teen Titans literally at the time it was being released and the Wolfman/Perez era really dug deep on who Victor Stone was (and it's often forgotten that he's a science prodigy as much as he was an athletic one) and how he continued to not let being Cyborg define who he was as a person. It made you warm to Vic and showed that he was able to make it a positive in his life. It feels like in New 52....well....he was the token hire. I won't say for race because there's Jon Stewart, but Cyborg is just shoehorned into the League, which is even more odd given that he and Wally (formerly Kid Flash) had an *extensive* history in the Titans and should, one would think, give them a strong grounded point from which to build at least that part of the team. It really removes him from his desire to have an ordinary life and not be treated as 'just Cyborg', when the original intent of the character was to *not* have it define him but be a strong character motivation. But then I could easily say the same about Dick Grayson.....

I really started reading comics when the new 52 was fresh so I'm not as seasoned as others. But when it came to cyborg I really dug him. He is one of my favorite characters and I really see him as a JL member before anything else. I did go back and read some issues of the new teen titans, so I do see what people say about him losing character. If you want a story about him thats weird, his last solo book ended on a cliff hanger where he captures and his tech stolen from is body. No conclusion at all. No one read it but me I guess.

I highly dislike that Cyborg was a founding member of the Justice league. I get that the reason is diversity, which is undenably a noble cause, but why not use John Stewart instead, rather than the person associated with the titians. Worst of all, he replaced my favorite league member J'onn J'onnz, and that annoys me to no end. Also, I blame the new 52 for driving me away from comics for years, as I ended up getting into them through the first 50 golden age superman stories and early spider-man, batman, and wonder woman. I got into superheroes through the DCAU, the 60s batman, and 70s superman and the challenge of the superfriends.

I'm thinking Bats was playing "Every Breath You Take." Sure it's really on the nose, but it fits with Geoff Johns' ham-handed writing. I compare the first 6 issues of "New 52!" Justice League to Mark Millar's first 6 of "The Ultimates," which was essentially a relaunch of The Avengers, but in an alternate continuity. Everything just came together with Ultimates, and in thrilling style. JL just crammed everyone in one place because...reasons, and all the characters were just weird.

The New 52 is what got me into comics in the first place so I will always have positive feelings about it and personally for me it was a great jumping on point. The New 52 Aquaman run by Geoff Johns is amazing and Aquaman is actually cool in that run. The Court of Owl is from the new 52 and it's considered one of the best Batman stories ever so I wouldn't say that the new 52 was a total failure.

Science has proven that 97% of all RU-vid channels are, like a bad sitcom from decades ago, overlit ("because that's the way everybody else does it"). When I knew how to upload to YT the RU-vid lighting robot would pop up and ask me if I wanted to reconsider my lighting choices and I would scream "it's lit like real life ya daft robot!" and I liked it that way. Just because the "professionals" light every molecule within frame with huge bright lights doesn't mean you have to. Max the Cockatoo, for instance, is not artificially lit and I love Max, that cranky ol' bird. His rants are just nuts. Of course he is almost always filmed in the daytime but that's not the point. The point is the sun is not evil.

Anything in Batman's heartbreak playlist has to be especially emotional to affect him. Because we all know Superman's his true love.

It could have been more interesting if they left him as a Cheetah for a couple of issues. At first, the bloodlust is overwhelming Superman's judgement. He defeats many Justice League members and slaughters many tribesman. Batman goes back to the Watchtower and develops an idea on how to stop Superman. He wants to beat him up with a kryptonite ring. At this point, only Cyborg and Wonderwoman are still standing. They are the last defense against Superman's genocide. Batman comes down and lands a clean hit on Superman. Sadly, the Cheetah power protects Superman from some of the kryptonite's effects. Batman ends up defeated after a powerful uppercut. Cyborg decides enough is enough and transports the entire tribe and Justice League to the Watchtower. As the team recovers, Batman suggests that they may need to kill Superman. Wonder Woman and Flash vehemently disagree and vow to find a way to stop him nonlethally, Wonder Woman asks if Flash has any suggestions. Flash says that maybe they need to remind Superman who he is. Not the Superhero, but the man behind the mask. Flash suggests maybe if they go to Superman's hometown. Their will be something to remind Superman of his old self. Cyborg transports the duo to Smallville. They go in their civilian identities and ask around about Clack. Wonder Woman finds out how good of a person Superman is despite being an outcast. The last place they visit is the Clark residence. Martha Kent welcomes them in and asks them to come in. They are surprised that Martha's knows their secret identities. Martha laughs and says Clark says many things about them. She makes sure to mention how much Clark talks about Diana. Flattered, Wonder Woman cannot help, but think about Clark in a romantic light. After a good dinner, Wonder Woman says she knows how to bring Superman back. They bid the Kent's goodbye and teleport back to the Watchtower. Cyborg says it's about time and Superman is on the mover. If they do not beam down now, Clark will destroy an entire village. Wonder Woman explains her plan and the remaining Justice League beam down to stop Superman. Wonder Woman and Cyborg battle Superman head on. In the middle of the fight, Cyborg transmits Ma and Pa Kent's voice. Hearing his parents voice, Superman stops. He fights back, but is unable to shake the Cheetah from him. In a flash, the Flash come in and pours the special Cheetah blood on Superman. Superman roars and breaks free from his Cheetah curse.

Comic companies really should stop thinking reboots and editorial visions will change the number of people willing to buy comics. At most you'll get people to shuffle around what books they read and maybe steal a few customers from the other company. Usually you just piss people off. The focus should be on telling good stories rather than branding reboots.
