The most heart wrenching part of this scene is that Sam wasn't crying because he thought he was gonna die. He was crying because he hated seeing his brother like that.
What's weird to me about this scene is, if Dean did go through with it, then there'd be no-one to tell Rowena and the others to stop the spell, so they'd go through with it. Then the darkness would still have been unleashed, and now there's Dean without the Mark, but still having just killed his brother... What a disaster that would've been. Seems really stupid of Sam not to some how get Rowena to not finish the spell once Dean told him the plan.
Vousie V To be fair, Sam was focused on Dean. And we all know that once Sam is focused on Dean, (or saving him) everything else in the world takes a back burner.
That's because, in real life, Jensen and Jared consider each other to be true brothers, they don't care that there are no blood ties or whatever, they are and will always be brothers.Best of all, Jensen and Jared have literally said, still say and I'm sure they will always say as a statement, the fact that they are real brothers.
"Sammy close your eyes"..well run me over, cut me up, and throw me in a fire Jesus. Jared does an incredible job of looking small, and really representing himself as the younger sibling here. Sam loves his brother so much, he doesn't want him to be what he's become. Right there in that moment he's done everything he can to try and save his big brother. All I see is a reflection of young Sam, always looking up to Dean. Now so desperately trying to save him.
that is an amazibg analysis. its definitely how I saw it too. he might be 30-something here but all I saw was a little kid brother trying his best to help his brother and do whats right at the same time.
Just no. I'm tearing up at this^^^^^ and I guess this is why I love SPN so much - I have two younger siblings of my own who look up to me just like Sam looks up to Dean and would do anything for him. Like Dean, I'm flawed, but it never stops them from telling me that I'm worth it. Like Dean, I had to take care of both my sisters when my parents ran through a terrible patch in their marriage. This caused them to stop giving a shit about us for a while. I had to play both mother and father to my sisters, but at the same time I also had to play older sister. This scene here emphasized the bond between Dean and Sam even more. Omg this is why I end up crying every time Dean/Sam fight or have emotional misunderstandings; SAM IS SO PREPARED TO HELP HIS BROTHER END IT ;-; He's willing to give up his life #fml
YES. Sam has done literally everything for his brother, from good to bad to worse to just sick and twisted--just like Dean did for him. These two are utterly, helplessly BROTHERS
Yup. His level of compassion for others, and his humility to realize his own mistakes and flaws is amazing. I feel like because of the missteps he’s made, and accepting he was more than his mistakes, gives him these qualities. I just love him. 😭
+Sadie Curtis I'd actually switch that up and say Dean's word would be suffer, because he always seems to feel pain and guilt so strongly, and Sam's would be sacrifice, since he's always sacrificing himself (like in Swan Song or in this clip when he was going to let Dean kill him.)
ItsJohanna hmm true but I think in the long run it's been Dean that sacrificed his childhood and innocence and essentially himself. Sam's suffered through a life he never wanted hence stanford and his visions, blood addiction and well a not-very-happy destiny to be lucifers bitch. But hey. Maybe they both just Suffer and Sacrifice...;)
I can't get over Jared and Jensen in this scene. The acting was so real and heartbreaking. Plus, the show is really about 2 brothers who love each other and we got to see that in the end. That love was still intact. And I love how when things are at its worst, Sam still instinctively cries out for his big brother.
Bones of the Day Yea man that scene where Sam was giving Dean the pictures of him and his mother were truly heartbreaking and i just love how real it is because they are doing this now for so long and they are like family in real life as well.
I mean he totally knew what he was in for. Him and Kevin both. They were both just like "omfg every time I'm near you I get screwed over." So this was 100% predicted
noooo, stop spoiling yourself :( so much greatness to come in all these seasons. You will ruin the moment when you get to that episode by watching these videos =(
Am I the only one disturbed about Death's......death. I MEAN HE IS FREAKING DEATH, HE LIKED PIZZAS, HE WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES AND HE JUST HIT THE BUCKET LIKE THAT? JUST LIKE THAT? OH C'MON ON.
@Ashwaraide Doran Sam didn’t wanna live tho. He hasn’t cared about his own life in years. He’s been kinda trying to die for seasons. But he knows Dean. He knows, someday, Dean will be Dean again. And he knows it will destroy Dean, in a way nothing else ever could, to have Sam’s blood on his hands. Dean doesn’t realize it, but the sacrifice Sam is talking about making? It’s not his own life. It’s knowing the pain this will end up causing Dean. He’s tried everything to spare him that. But now it’s come to this. He has to end it. No matter how much this is going to shatter his big brother’s heart. He’s traded his life, his soul, for Dean before. But I think, for him, this is the worst price yet. Because Dean will never, ever, ever, forgive himself.
1:42 I FREAKING BURST INTO TEARS WHEN I SAW THE TEAR ROLL DOWN JARED'S NECK. _Sammy, close your eyes._ They are such brilliant actors (and people in general) I just can't handle them anymore. This is going to be one long hellatus.
Lthien me too. When that one tear moved down in a zig zag down Sam's face...I almost lost it. Then when he's holding up those pictures and that one errant tear is sliding down his neck...oh man. Sam was on his knees, seconds away from his own death, and he is holding up old photographs of them in order for Dean to have some way back when he's gone...just no, no, such sad stupid beautiful sad.....
As glad as I was that the boys were alive and the mark was gone, but it's kind of a bittersweet moment. I mean it's like, well once again the world is fucked because sam and dean can't just let the other one go.
Auron1Roxas2 Well, actually, that doesn't work, they've both done it already. Dean at the end of Season 5 and Sam after Dean ended up in Purgatory so I at least am happy we can skip wasting time on that...
Selver M Bell The apocalypse happened because one of them didn't trust the other. It's not nonsense it's the truth. Even in the episodes where one of them dies and comes back the other brother is always trying to find some way to bring the other back, and at times it's cost the lives of others, recently Charlie paid the price. And now the world has. These are facts.
I don't think Death would be so easily killed, even by his own scythe. He is a major part of the natural balance to the world and his death would mean the natural balance isn't so balanced anymore. I just think he's hiding somewhere and having some nice pickle chips.
goofball944700 dean only killed death's "physical" entity. Because death can't be killed, because like you said he's apart of the natural balance of the universe
Script writers should get a medal for this scene. And it was brilliantly acted as well. I didn't for one second believe that Dean would kill Sam (it's like, even with a genuine intention, his body just refuses to do it as long as he has at least some sense left) but that "Sammy, close your eyes" line just completely cuts through you, regardless. The only bit I am not clear on is Dean's "Forgive me" line. Was it cause he still intended to kill Sam at that point (cause honestly, no one looks more surprised than him when he kills Death instead) or was it an advance apology for killing Death and bringing chaos to the world. The entire Darkness thinggie reminds me quite a bit of that Byron's poem "The Darkness" but I have no desire to watch another apocalyptic arc so I hope they deal away with it quickly. There are just too many things to sort out - the Darkness (which looks a bit like one big demon), Death's death, Rowena with her Book of the Damned I feel is going to be a hassle, Cas going a bit berserk... I think they'll have to deal away quickly with at least some of these things. I also quite like the fans' reaction of "sc*ew the world, as long as Dean and Sam are fine, it'll be OK", quite quilty of that myself :D
Selver M Bell watching this scene again (for the second, third, fourth, and fifth times) made me think that Dean was apologizing to Death for what he was about to bring upon the earth. And I didn't think that Dean would really kill Sam, but I think it was a moment like Sam had in Swan Song, where Dean was bent on his fate to save the world because of what the Mark was telling him was the right choice, then when Sam tells Death to kill him, you see Dean's face waver just enough, then when he takes Death's sickle, you see it waver more, like the frozen ice that the Mark made of his soul is cracking enough to remind him, like Sam said, what it was to love, to be human, to value your brother's life because he loves yours so much he is willing to let you kill him.. And I love the movieqsue feel of the ending. I'm in the same 'screw the world' crap thing too. The Winchesters were enveloped in that black death fog together, so they'll fight out of it together, the world owes them one.
SenorTortas And I don't think they've sorted the Veil and Heaven either, or Chuck, for that matter. I hope their writers have enough courage to try and tackle it all, there are quite a few unfinished things, would be a great season 11 if they manage to juggle the Darkness along with everything else. Should give them enough material to not recycle the Dean/Sam have to die scenario...
boci122 Yeah, I think you are right, I've watched it a few more times as well now and there is that increased wavering. He looks inward at the end when he apologised, he's already decided by that point to kill Death.
OH MY GOD! the most emotional heart-wrenching finale ever...had me in tears, Sam just made me bawl like a baby...the part where he agrees to die, where tears run down his face thinking his brother is gonna guillotine him, the 'shut your eyes Sammy' the family photos Sam gave Dean, so that one day when Dean comes to his senses he can find his way back even though Sam will be dead...ahhhh it was too much...destroyed me! though what does Dean mean when he says 'forgive me'...is he apologizing for agreeing to trade Sam's life so Dean could be sent to planet krypton or what?
yukifoxdemon nah...I was thinking about it and im pretty sure its Sam...he looked directly at Sam with a lot of emotion, and he did just theoretically trade his brothers life, and he should be sorry so yeah...highly doubt he is apologizing to Death.
candylover1991 I saw it as him apologizing to Death because I think he'd already made the decision to kill Death. Or he could have been apologizing to Sam for not taking himself out of the picture and thus continuing to be a danger to people. Either way, different interpretations are always fun :)
This is the third time I've watched this and I still cant help bawling like a baby when Dean says "Sammy, close your eyes." Best finale ever. I also loved how Crowley seemed to refuse to defend himself against Cas, something he's proved himself to be quite capable of. He's not as bad as he likes to think XD Cant wait for season 11!
@@sai-ct2jh the world wood end with or with out them or did you not see the eivl michael world where sam and dean dont ecisty and world ended profing it has noting to do wiyjh them thr world will aways end by some one eise
I kinda hope that Death isn't actually dead and planned the whole thing, telling Dean to kill Sam instead of him in the knowledge that it would be enough to make him want to keep fighting to get the mark off his arm. I seriously doubt Death would be so stupid as to ask such a thing of Dean without an ulterior motive in mind.
marcen12 Yeah I have a question about that. In season 8 was Dean just talking out of his ass??I mean he saw Sam was on the edge so he talked him down??Or was it the mark talking and he was just being this ginormous dick??
Jackie Vester He didn't actually have the Mark until Season 9, so it definitely wasn't that! This season, the mark has overtaken his judgement; under normal circumstances, he'd never even consider harming sam. That little bit of love and light from his brother, I think, gave him back enough of himself to change his mind.
Jackie Vester I honestly think Sam is fully aware now that he's not been acting of his own accord, but I'm definitely wanting a brotherly love reunion sometime soon in the next season!
Ok I don't even watch Supernatural and have only seen videos here and there of the brothers (and I like them) but I just came across this and watched this and it was amazing. Like the scene between the brothers at the start made me emotional and I was actually scared for them and wondering what will happen next when the darkness was coming towards them like wtf I don't even watch this show but for these few minutes I was so into it. I feel like I need to get time and start watching this show now.
xnuhxhuhx aw i like this comment haha. Pls do when you find the time. A lot of ppl binge watched the entire 10 seasons in weeks I find it scary haha. It'll be better if you do it slowly I guess but idk suit yourself. I hope you'll enjoy it!
You can ask my dad and literally everyone in the general vicinity of my house that I screamed and started dancing around yelling "DEAN CAN'T KILL HIS SAMMY AND IT CAUSED ANOTHER APOCALYPSE YEESSS!!! THE DARKNESS IS COMING I'M SO EXCITED PLEASE BRING BACK CHUCK AND LUCI BECAUSE THEY WERE AMAZING BRING THEM ALL BACK BRING BACK GABRIEL!" It was 10 o'clock at night and I skipped around the neighborhood singing random nonsense because these two brothers are complete idiots and I love them for it. My dad couldn't even move he was like: "did Dean really do that?" HE'S NEVER WATCHED ANY OTHER SEASON THAN SEASON 10 I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD HE WAS SO SURPRISED
No, but can we talk about Christopher Lennertz's score here? Jared and Jensen were freaking killing it here in this scene but Chris' score really ties it all together. Perfect musical cue is perfect.
SJ RANKS I was admittedly not happy, he was clearly told what would happen should it be removed and in the end they did as they always have and they choose family, over the other 7 billion people on the planet and have pretty much condemned us all to save each other.
Yeah I know what ya mean I mean first the devils gate gets open then lucifer is popped out of his cage then Cass unleashes the leviathans and now the darkness it just seems to happen now and then
I was kinda referring to the fact that Dean just friggin KILLED DEATH, and let a giant mass of shadowy evil loose upon the earth, which by the way, they have absolutely NO IDEA how to stop, kill, or even slow down! I think they may need Gods help on this one, because that Darkness looked majorly BADASS.
Same here. Although I'm curious, is The Darkness the same as the Leviathan? I kinda noticed the growling noises it was making were kinda similar and the fact that God considered it enough of a threat to seal it away makes me think it functions in a similar manor...
toxic tabby God created Leviathans, The Darkness was before God, so it is far from being a Leviathan.. It took God and a whole army of angels to trap The Darkness, and that was before the universe..
So Death gave Dean the only weapon that can kill him to kill a simple human and just stands behind him just in the range of the scythe? either Death is really stupid this time or he had all this planned and he is not dead, i bet on the second one.
ray johnson Somehow i totally forgot about Oskar XD, you are right with Death dead then no one should be able to die, we saw that when Dean decided not to take that little girl in season 6, they would just heal again.
ray johnson I think Death was just the big boss. Reapers still exist, I just think maybe Death kept them in line, kept them from going rogue. Don't forget he was locked up in Hell for a long, long time before Lucifer released him so he's only recently come into the playing field. However, I agree with arkbuble that I think Death may have planned this from the beginning. His words about Dean's family seemed out of character for him...I doubt he'd really care that much about what kind of 'stain' Dean would put to his family name unless he was trying to get a rise out of him.
i think i will be a good actress because when my school was did a musical and i became one of the cast, they told me to act cry. and i starting to cry a river, easily, just by remember the sad moments in supernatural 😭
that whole episode had me screaming into a balled up blanket on the couch in my living room, I was bouncing around trying to keep myself from screaming too loud and I seriously thought for one minute that Dean was actually going to kill Sam and I was crying and screaming lowly "Don't do it!!" and Then I was screaming again when that black cloud of demons swallowed the impala. Safe to say for me that episode was almost the death of me.
This episode truly shows what real brother love is and how much of a family they are. If you didn't get a small bit of watery eyes from that then your heartless because that was sad. There is also no way Death can be dead! He's death so I doubt anything can kill death itself thus he is still alive somehow. I wonder how he's going to react when he meets up with the Winchester's again. Last but not least a darkness that was equal if not stronger than god!? I'm curious how the writers are gonna pull that off.
"Do it or i will" and at that moment Dean winchester defied the mark and defied death all because of one thought running through his head, "You stay the hell away from my little brother. "
I'm still rather confused about Dean's thought process. i would've liked some insight into his mind during this. Cause he went from blaming Sam for Charlie and wishing him dead instead and trying to kill him just now to suddenly deciding to kill Death and let Sam live. I really hope the opening of season 11 deals with the confusion.
I DON'T CARE ABOUT THE DARKNESS I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF CAS AND CROWLEY ARE OKAY. ROWENA PUT THAT 'ATTACK' SPELL SHE USED ON THAT GIRL THAT ONE TIME. AND THE GIRL DIED!
He tells Sam to close his eyes. And Sam can't, he doesn't want to. Just looks up at Dean and cries. "Take these. And one day, when you find your way back...let these be your guide. They can help you remember what it was to be good. What it was to love." A picture of the two people who he loves the most. More than he could ever love himself. His brother and his mom. And in that instant when he looks at the photos and sees the face of his brother, he can't do it. He decides he can't. He never could. And Sam keeps his eyes open until the last possible moment, so Dean would be burned into his eyes as the last thing he sees. The love these two brothers have for each other is so profound and it hurts me so bad because they are both bound for pain and suffering, held together only by the love they have for each other. JESUS IM IN PAIN. Dean's "Mark of Cain" arc was my favorite for his character by FAR. It revealed so much about him, so much about how he sees himself and finally capitalizes on how much SAM loves DEAN. This finale destroyed me. Welp, here come the tears again. Fuck.
Well my sisters and brothers... This scene is the scene that the whole fandom lose themselves. Enjoy... I am in tears right now and every time I watch this.
I really like how this fandom there is no (or not much) arguing everyone is just trading views and answering questions its really great I think there should be a lot more fandoms out there like this one...
The Mark of Cain curse really seems to have a lot of unexplained problems. The main issue I have with it is they say you can't die with the curse because you will come back as a demon....but what happens if you die as a demon? They make it seem like demons are immortal.
Knights of hell aint that strong, mark of cain is strong thats why cain was the strongest demon ever and yeah mark wont let die cain unless if there is someone that he can share the mark and only way to kill the bearer the mark of cain is another bearer just as dean. Thats why he says there is only 1 thing that can kill me... Also knights of hell can be overpowered by regular angels (before fall) Abaddon was scared when she saw gadreel in that cafe even he was injured at that moment. You can kill them with angel blade I suppose. Abaddon was less resistant to kurdish demon killing knife than Alastair.
***** I'm wondering if Cain technically didn't have The Mark anymore, because he gave it to Dean, but because he'd had it for so long, its effects couldn't be reversed.
Armanc Bilal I could have sworn in that episode he told Dean he could *transfer* the mark to him, rather than sharing it. I figure if he was sharing it, the effect wouldn't have been so abundant, given what Death said about Dean having the option of sharing the mark to cut down on the symptoms. But hey, different perspectives and opinions are large in this fandom, and I enjoy all of them ^^
Sammy close your eyes,I died a little with that scene:( So heartbreaking,so emotional, lawd the brotherly love is pure perfection:,,) They would die for one another, lawd these 2 give me life:'')
Tell me I'm not the only one who immediately thought of Chaos (Greek Mythology) when Death mentioned the darkness. Ive been referring to the darkness as Chaos. Oh well, back to my Percy Jackson/Supernatural crossover fic.
A crossover of Uncle Ricks' books would be great. Percy and Dean would either be great friends or would clash a lot. I can see Percy getting along great with Sam though. But the best crossover would be with the Magnus Chase series. The team is literally made up of two enheirji, a valkyrie, a dwarf and an (adorable) elf. The Winchester boys would lose their minds.
I'm Obsessed - Sorry He's fine. He's a freaking powerful angel so he's not like the human hooker she did it to. I adore Cas but he's the least of my worries right now.
Don't worry, the writers will figure something out. It would be pretty lame from them to end two main characters in this way. If anything there's still "God will save them" situation, like when Cas was destroyed by Lucifer but got resurrected by God.
I think what brought Dean back is that in spite of everything. That even after he's killed him, Sam still believes in him. Believes that he is good, and can, and will find his way back.
My guess is that that giant cloud of darkness is lucifer coming out of his cage because i'd say that he is the greatest darkness, would be so awesome to see him in season 11!!!!!
Sammy: kill me Humanity: kill him The ghouls and ghosts: kill him The monsters: kill him The demons: kill him The angels: kill him The archangels: kill him Death: kill him The universe: kill him God himself (probably): kill him Dean: ... Dean: *n o*
