I have the SuperSport 939. It's a great bike. The 950 has all the upgrades I wish to have. The main difference should be torque and ergonomics. Though I like the RS660, I'd always take the Ducati. To me, the Tuono 660 will be more interesting, since it will have a more comfortable seating position.
The full akra system adds 10 to 15 ft lbs of torque, 10 to 15 hp, and shaves 20 lbs off the bikes weight If money is no issue, you won't regret the supersport 😊
The Ducati has far better f/r suspension bits than the Aprilia on the S model, which justifies the price difference. Plus, though the HP difference is not great, the torque difference is, all in favor of the Ducati
you all prolly dont care at all but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account? I was stupid lost the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@@englishsteel-nz6im Great, that's only another 50% of the original cost put into the Aprilia. And to what end? Most of these bikes will never see a trackday.
@@rlsedition Point was there's not 5k more value in the Duc S. An ohlins shock upgrade on the Aprilia and it's almost there suspension wise. The Duc's weight and wheelbase are a big negative.
As a owner of a Ducati Supersport S I would love to try the Aprilia and compare! Personally I like the looks of the ducati better, especially the new version
@@kellytorres51 they say it improved. I'm not sure cause I live in winterland (Ireland), our hottest day of the year would probably be your coldest, never had issues with heat, here.
The fit and finish on the Ducati is miles ahead of the Aprilia - I saw both up close, and the Aprilia is great value for money, no error, but it's just not in the same league as the Ducati. I could see younger riders in their twenties possibly favouring the more 'modern' styling of the Aprilia, and guys in their thirties and up going more for the Ducati, which looks rather oldschool.
Just test rode the RS660 at the racetrack yesterday. I am used to my gsxr1000 but this bike did not disappoint. Suspension and seat were too soft for track use but great for street use. So I just pre-ordered the bike so I hope to see you at MotoAmerica after a full race build.
I understand, but considering the price of these two is so similar they are pretty much in the same market. Depends if you want the bigger engine with more power, or the unique styling and rarity of the Aprilia for the same amount of money. Where would you put yours?
@@Kwackajack Actually the styling of the Aprilia really is the only reason i can't even really consider it, because I would have to immediatly get another color on it. The yellow one is really not my color and the other 2 are just WAY to mixed up for me. I like basic minimalistic colors, like the white Ducati with the golden and red accents. Get a basic black one or even better white one on the market and I will go look at that Aprilia!
@@rlsedition THANK YOU. It's my biggest problem with the bike and I have been looking for that comment so long. The white/red/gold of Ducati is so much better in my opinion, the Aprilia paints are just so damn overloaded! I really don't know what to do with them..
The Ducati Supersport (standard) is 3.000€ above the Aprilia RS 660 right now here in Germany. The price difference and the light weight of the RS 660 made me choose the RS 660. Both are very nice bikes, but after driving and owning the Tuono 660 and the new Monster 950, I prefer the engine characteristics of the Aprilia - yes it has less torque, but also less heat and less clattering 😉. In the end it's all about having fun on your bike of choice 😍
It's much easier for people in China to make the choice. Aprilia RS660 will not be imported officially😂 Ducati looks cool but the design looks so similar like V4. Anyway still better than Kawasaki ninjia series, they look almost same😂😂😂
The ducati looks like every other relative new ducati, dont get me wrong I love the look of the ducati but the RS 660 looks different, making it stand out, I prefer the looks of the RS 660. great video.
to be fair, its called middle WEIGHT. i dont think its right to think one is better than the other, because it fits a name better. They both fit the same class, have relatively similar specs, and ergos and everything. Plus, id much rather have a bigger, understressed engine than something that struggles to make the power it does, just so it fits the "middleweight" name. not saying the rs660 is going to be unreliable, who knows at this point. but just having a larger engine is not a good way to discount the ducati
@@obnxsdonky9394 - Over stressed? The power to weight ratio on either of these bikes is hardly going to be an issue unless you're intent to be carrying an absurd amount of weight.
I'm in the Ducati camp. One thing that is not shown is the PITA the RS660 is to adjust the rear suspension. The other dislike is that the RS660 may be too light for my taste. The Ducati feels small, but has a nice sense of stability. Guess it's good there are options.
I love, love, love the Aprilia, and have been waiting for it to grace us with it's beautiful presence. But, I stumbled and went for a bike that I said I'd get when I got my licence, oh I do love my Harley, she's a great bike but my eye is still on the Aprilia 660 and I WILL get it, I'll just have to organise a bigger garage lol I've only had my licence for nearly 6mths and already had 3 bikes, all different riding styles and would have kept them all but hey..no room 😔 My son's said to me after the purchase of #2 "hey mum, are you collecting bikes now?" Possibly son, it's a possibility 😁
I have the 937 super sport s, it’s being sold through a dealer , extremely comfortable bike. After three spinal surgeries this year, I reluctantly decided to try and sale it. After watching this video I’m having second thoughts 🤔 Love that rs 660 as well.
From the side, the Ducati looks better, but the Aprilia's front is hot. Also the Ducati has more Power and is the more aggressive. In every other aspect the Aprilia is way apart, so this is will hopefully be mine one day. PS: It would also be interesting to compare both bikes to the MV Agusta 675, though it wouldn't stand a chance.
Premesso che hai fatto un confronto sulla carta. Il titolo inganna perché fà pensare ad un confronto reale. Il tuo "confronto" sembra fatto da un ragazzino...
You won't regret it! If you got money to waste I highly recommend a full race exhaust and a set of used Marcheshini rims from a ducati 1098S! They bolt right on and both will shave off 35lbs from the bike, much of that being unsprung weight 😊
The RS660 is a lovely piece of machinery but it's so over priced that it really can only be classed alongside bikes of the same price like the MT-09, KTM 890R and Street triple RS all of which are massively more powerful, plus this claim of 250 kph (156 mph) is nonsense, MCN tested it at 141 mph (225 kph) and the footage of it being tested at Snetterton showed R6s, GSX-R 600s and other supersport bikes going past it like it was standing still on the straights, realistically it's in a class of one as it's too expensive to be compared to the MT-07, Z650 or CBR650 and it's not a supersport bike.
I’ll go for the Ducati 950S, 100% sure! Way better components on the 950 and Aprilia is stuck with the shitty reliability Ducati also had 10-15 years ago. The combination of Italian design, Ducati Corse breed and german quality thinking Audi brought to the table is a WINNER!
Nice vid. These bikes are much closer to each other than they initially seem & are true competitors imo. It's a really tough choice for me. I think I could happily buy either but would probably be wondering if I should've bought the other. The Ducati is sexier & classier but the Aprilia is cooler & edgier. Right now I'd buy the Supersport S but the real test will be the Supersport S vs the RS660 Factory.....when it arrives. Can't wait!
It's true, really hard to pick between and I think there would be a lot of 'grass is greener' syndrome wondering about if you picked the right bike. Especially for the price that these two come in at, there's so many bikes available. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed!
SUPERSPORT 950 S: heavy mirror vibration - ineffective at best no cruise control small gas tank 4.2 gallon for a bike that offers a touring pkg. some minor low end engine vibration Quickshifter iffy below 40mph Still tricky to find neutral clock still inaccurate pannier brackets so UGLY, they must be removed when not carrying luggage, and panniers that are x-insecure (zippers) I have to travel 4 hrs to get on mtn roads so this bike appears very comfortable, but for the price, no cruise control, yet they offer a very expensive travel pkg?? GR8 suspension on S, but long wheelbase so it will probably take some work if you like to slalom. Want to buy one just wish they would deal with above LONG_STANDING issues.
Man, I don't even see the comparison here. Horse power is close but these are so different on just about every level. To me the 660 is a toy with cheap switch gear and childish paint jobs. The Ducati is classy and elegant. The 660 engine has no torque, flat in the middle and too light. The 660 may be quicker in its steering but I want stability in a bike like this. The Ducati is in its own class....meaning, there is nothing else like it which is why we see comparisons like this. Part for part the Ducati is far superior in every way. I personally want torque on the road not a wind up toy.
I know im late to the party but the Ducati, funnily enough, will be much more reliable. the rs660 is a 660cc making almost the same power as the 937cc. it is much more stressed and is known for it leaking and not turning on reliably.
Thank you for doing this piece. I think it is good to bring these 2 together, as I think a lot of reviewers/creators missed this. That said, I would personally take the 950 S over the new Aprilia. I think Aprilia gave this bike too much electrickery and not enough actual hardware. And let's face it, you know there will be a "Factory" version coming soon which will, for a substantial price bump, address those deficiencies. And I would still take the 950 S. Of course, I say this without having sat on or ridden either! Once that happens the story could change. We will see if our ridiculous, dictatorial "leaders" will let that happen. Stay tuned! Thanks again for this piece. I enjoyed it.
Thanks for the feedback! You’re right, putting your bum on the seat really is key when deciding the bike. But how you feel about it as a whole also does play a big part. I think most people prefer the Aprilia, but the Duc is definitely a great bike too, and in terms of specs does best the rs too. Hope you get the chance to try them out!
@@Kwackajack Me too! I guess the other area where the Ducati wins out is in dealer network, although I have to say I have picked up a new Aprilia dealer in my area over the last year or so, so that is exciting. The bike in my stable that is somewhat comparable is a 9+ year-old Suzuki GSX1250 FA, and to be honest I'm not sure either one of these bikes can run with it. I have been drooling over the Tuono V4 Factory for the longest time. But the continuous price increases have all but put that bike out of range now. I must ride the RS660 regardless. You just never know. Cheers!
Thanks for the good and fair comparison! Both are sports bikes of similar power, with slightly more relaxed rising positions and designed more for the road. I'm glad these styles are out there as I don't like naked bikes much and the litre category is just silly power (for me) and uncomfortable (for me). I personally prefer the looks of the Ducati with the suspension option of the S, but the Aprillia is a great looking bike too. I suspect the Ducati would be a bit better for longer trips, while the Aprilia would be a bit more nippy in the twisties. Bottom line is that it's great to have the choice -- and really looking forward to being able to give both a test!
Now if Kawasaki would make a light weight retro 400. I'm sick and tired of motorcycle manufacturers making motorcycles that are for tracks to put on city streets that are uncomfortable, too fast, and look like insects.
I own the Ninja 400 and rode and ordered the RS660, both these bikes are built for street use or a very slow track pace. It takes about $10k in mods to get these bikes ready for race use: suspension, brakes, shifter/clutch, bodywork, ECU, exhaust, dyno, tires, so much to be done if you are to ride these bikes on the racetrack. Sounds like you would be better off with the new Honda Rebel
@@losangelesupholstery6773 I have owned many motorcycles in my 45 years of riding including a ZX6 back in the 80's and an 09 Street Triple. I now own 5 motorcycles. I just don't see anything on the market that I would want to trade any of my motorcycles for. My bonnie, sportster, Street Glide or xt250. I'm want a new bike but nothing out there peaks my interest. I want a triple bonnie.
It is, but IMO considering the size difference between the two engines it isn’t that big. I think if the RS had the same CC’s as the Duc it would have more power.
@@happydays1165 So that's your choice. The SuperSport with more power/weight/price or the RS660 with less of all three. I have the SS, but the Aprilia didn't exist two years ago. I'd have to ride both if I was buying today.
Ducati is undoubtedly the legend in Sports Bike Design but the only thing they need to work on nowadays is the front head lights design. ROUTINE is BORING . Ducati Desmosedici RR is one of the Best Ducati's Sports Bike. OLD is GOLD. Aprilia had Done their Best in Designing the RS660. ALL the BEST Aprilia for your Future Endeavours. 🙏🏻🤝🤠
Ducati's design language peaked with the 1198/1098/848. The triangles make it look like a goofy cartoon bad-guy, and the pipes on the side just messes up the view of the SSSW (and you have to take off the exhaust tips to get the rear wheel off *facepalm*)... but most other angles look pretty good, but nowhere near the 1198/1098/848 series.
só a quetao do preço já chega pra dar a vitoria a aprilia , eu tbm prefiro a aprilia pela estetica e pela sigla rs , que já vem de trás de outras maquinas da marca italiana aprilia !
The new Aprilia RS 660 “face” will probably be the same face they’ll put on the RSV4, so they will look very similar as well. I’m really looking forward to an RSV4 with the RS660 front end because its about time the RSV4 gets an update.
Great comparison. I think Service intervals and rider comfort should be in your comparison. I think the supersport is more of a sport touring bike and the rs660 looks more like a sports bike. In saying that, its Ducati all the way for me. The bold colour, styling, and sounds (with aftermarket pipes) that wins my vote.
You complain about the latest SS looking too much like the Panigales, but Aprilia just restyled their RSV4, which now looks more like the RS660. Aprilia is doing the same thing.
the only problem with Aprilia is the service. They dont respect warranty and you have to wait weeks and weeks for your bike to get fixed. Buyer beware. I had to sell mine out of desperation.
Nice comparo. Not sure how you don't see the family resemblance with the Aprilia RS like you do with the Ducati SS. Clearly both designs are "related" to the bigger versions. The 660rs is not that original. Also it would have been nice if you had done the math re power to weight ratios since you gave both the engine power number and dry/wet weights. Also also, fuel tank capacity and travel range would have ben nice too since these are not track/race replica bikes but meant for "real world" duty. But I enjoyed the presentation, as you are spot on...these 2 Italian beauties do compete head to head. Thanks. :-)
The RS 660 is a true sportsbike while the Supersport 950 is more of a sport touring bike. The biggest difference is the Ducati is better suited for longer rides while Aprilia would be more uncomfortable for that. The Aprilia does look more unique though I won't get it because I'm looking to move from a GSX-R to something more comfortable but also still sporty.
I've owned a tonne of bikes and for the past two years, a ducati supersport S with the full akra system and lightweight 1098 S marcheshini wheels with a 200 rear tire for track and street use. The supersport is an absolute beast of a bike!!! If money isn't an issue, hands down, a properly built supersport s is totally the way to go. Wheels and a full akra shave 35 lbs off the weight alone. 😊
The Aprilia has "cool colors"? They need to delete most of the decals on the black and choose a less polarizing color than that weird yellow with red wheels on the version without the decals.
Dude, I liked the review. However they are both different bikes, aimed at different markets. Call me old fashioned, as in my opinion the Aprilia is aimed at the younger market, whilst the Ducati is more aimed at the older age market. Who want a more “relaxed” bike, with more torque, so gear shifting isn’t as big a deal. They are however both great bikes, just don’t think they are aimed at the same buyer, nor by what I’ve seen already is comparable for these two fine examples.
I pick the Ducati, it's extra weight and much bigger engine would be a benefit on longer rides and multi day rides. The rewards would be more comfort and better stability, and when riding in the twisty sections I doubt that I would be complaining.
Price-wise... I checked for my area (Belgium) and the Ducati SSS costs much more than the Aprilia... SSS is 18k, Aprilia is 11k... that's quite significant!
@@francescoparmitani6359 In Portugal it seems the MSRP is 11.650€ for the RS 660, 13.545€ for the Ducati SuperSport 950 and 12.290€ for the ZX6R....I know the ZX6R isn't a direct competitor for the RS, but I'm honestly contemplating whether I'd rather have the extra power for 600€ more or if I'd rather have more electronics. Comfort isn't really a huge deal for me at the moment. I'm not particularly interested in the Ducati, because not only is it slightly similar to the ZX6R in terms of power, it costs more and has a higher maintenance cost...so it ends up being a RS 660 vs ZX6R, though I'm sure the Ducati is a great bike
@@RazTheR6 bro if i were you i’d buy the aprilia, i saw it some weeks ago and it is very beautiful, and a lot of people who drove it says that it is like driving a bike, in rome you can try it for 30 minutes, maybe there is a place where you live
Supersport not as pretty as its bigger brothers or I would say supersport is the least pretty Ducati sportbike, but damn....RS660 is the prettiest sport bike in Aprilia lineup.
Hi Great video. I am the very happy owner of an 07 Triumph Daytona 675, considering to go for the 660RS. Mostly to have some "modern" specs, remember my Daytona has nothing, not even ABS. Pure riding/rider:-) Let me hear your thoughts on this, please. BR Kim Larsen, Denmark.
Niether. Gimmie my 08 r6 flashed and ill take both of these bikes. Oh and buyer beware. This 660 will NOT get the “100” + hp to the rear wheel. It will he more in the 85-90 range. But none the less will be an awesome bike. And finally a twin with a little bit of soul. But way way over priced . Sorry but i would never put that much money into a 660 twin . They use the sayin of its the 1100 chopped in half. To sound sexy. But at the end of the day its still just a twin.
@@Kwackajack yes it is😂. The riding position is much more relaxed then a supersport. Look at the bar handles. If you want to compare it with another bike then you should compare it with a VFR.
RS 660, hands down 💪🏽 its position as some might called a "hero-model" like in the GPU universe RTX3070 of sorts where you can get quite the performance & all most of the bells&whistle of a fully featured bike can have... but without the excess weight... excess power that may be too much for some riders 🏍
