Hype is hyperbolic fake excitement driven purely by the crushing emptiness in people's souls caused by the excesses of unfettered capitalism snatching away everything else that could be possibly passionate for people and replacing it with a misdirected aspiration that makes people think that consumerism will fill the hole in their hearts.
hype is for the vain, shallow, insecure, superficial consumerist airheads that hold little worth besides the brand name they so proudly promote. I'm utterly overjoyed that I grew out of that minuscule-minded perception which admittedly didn't happen until I was in the latter stages of my twenties.
Thankfully, my 15 year old son told me about Supreme. I am Indian, so of course you know I would never buy any of their products for him unless he wants to resell.
it works better that way though. because of the contrast. heard conan talk about it one time. why his remotes work better with very dry and serious people. :)
Hasan Minaj's show is like John Oliver's, but delves into pop culture as well. John Oliver is the intelligent dad who's ignorant on what the younglings find cool and Hasan is like the son who gets it.
John Oliver show turned into political propaganda for the left that's why the show is free on RU-vid. I miss the actual journalistic reports they had on companies doing foul play.
Charles Cunningham exactly. As a novelist, a filmmaker, a writer, a muslim, watching this guy succeed changed the game for me. It made me realize it’s actually possible to succeed in entertainment with time and talent
I am worried about my favorite Hassan he is going after big people, first it was Saudi Prince then oil now this OMG what next.. May God protect him, Please People lets all Support him and stand with him.
Barbara Kruger is a legend. Too many people have stolen from her...too many. Most don't even know from whom they're stealing. She gets ripped-off more than Milton Glaser's "I
I don't think Hassan will beat him next year, but he will give Oliver a run for his money in next year's emmy. Sadly, Colbert and Noah with their daily format just won't stand a chance. Even in 2015 when Stewart won his last emmy, everyone kinda agrees it was more for sentimental reason, Oliver should have won it. Weekely format, including sam bee's full frontal is where the best political comedy is at.
I actually really prefer the writing here and the jokes to Last Week Tonight. I love how informational LWT is and the dumb fucking pranks and stunts and shit LWT does, like the Marlin Bundo Book or creating their own church or inviting Lord Buckethead. But the jokes in LWT always go on too long and fall flat. I really prefer Minhaj's format of joke to info. They are the only ones I watch, though.
I find it amazing how companies manipulate people into thinking things are cool. Or that they manipulate the innate need for people to belong or show they're better than others. Most people spend soooooo much time and effort trying to please people they don't even know (who often don't even know you've tried) that they wouldn't wanna be friends with. But it works... and there'll always be someone willing to take advantage of it. If only you could manipulate that for good..
Most of the time people dont become famous when they do good things, only when they are victimis or are assholes. The world is based in supply and demand (i am telling about people feelings and not economy) if someone want to buy, there will be someone to sell.
I mean this shit predates companies, Be it Tulips, Pineapples, Gold or other precious metals. People want themselves to feel they are better than others.
I love this show because of the diversity of the jokes you can find and if u can understand each and every joke then you are a legend, hats off to you 👍
@@lajago35 can you imagine about us who are not from america only knows the culture and slangs thruogh tv shows and news and not heard about these brands like SUPREME dont know the context of many jokes but still loves this show. I hope we will get more episodes like saudi arabia and amazon one so that we can enjoy and understand more
Authentic streetwear is about practicality and survival, it's getting dressed on a budget. Streetwear for me was wearing milsur boots with newspaper stuffing in the winter. There's nothing supreme about being broke.
I will never understand the thought process behind, "I want this piece of clothing because not that many people can get it." How sad and/or boring is your life that is a priority for shopping?
Its happens by the age of 3 yrs. It's called programming. How do u think they control ppl. Make them value useless shit and profit of it while u rob them blind. Lol.
I definitely have this attraction for "hyped" products... I think it's like perceiving the product itself as condensed superiority, which you have to obtain to testify your worth. Like, inferior people should not be able to own it, and it's kept out of their reach by price and rarity. Have you ever felt something you owned improved your status image, and if someone from whom you want to be different from owned it too, the thing would lose value in your eyes? It's like that.
@@TV-8-301 think you're alone on this one, like damn where's the self-confidence? I feel for ya truly :( hope things get better and you don't have to rely on material things to bolster yourself n.n
The uncertain laughter/gasps when he mentions SA gets me. They're preparing the right reaction to a possible joke about racism (because that's the only thing SA is known for)... as he eyeballs the audience to see how many (or few) actually get the ghandi connection. Funny.
Sa is known for a few things like racism, xenophobia, rapes, taxi violence and some weapons and armoured vehicles and the first successful heart transplant the whole Ghandi thing is only mentioned in a history textbook paragraph talking about Indians in the history of my country South Africa I haven't seen or heard or read anything about Indians because most people here just don't care there more afraid about some coming race war between the whites and blacks tho only politicians are calling for sutch actions most people really just don't care
@@leesteal4458 that would be very hard to find since most political extremists are urging for the two largest colors to wipe the smaller one out. Recently in my area there's been a few people pretending to be cops and shooting people and stealing stuff the last fight I heard and saw where an Indian guy was involved was when a Indian guy and a Pakistani were arguing about being the better phone repair shop and getting more money than the other one
One of your best yet. I'm also a first generation born Indian-American and I hope Hasan is taking Propecia or something to prevent further hair loss. We need him to stay flexin.
@@LiLKel4 Children of immigrants off course are gonna gravitate to hip hop, an art form thats deals with the hardships of life of marginalized groups within America.
@@spakentruth I'm Indian. And I've never been to USA. And I don't plan to, as long as Trump is chief dictator. . But don't tell me Indians don't love hiphop.
It is something that I've been beating the drum about for many, many years, particularly around fashion trends and deriving "identity" from clothing /accoutrements, or believing that "identity" is expressed through outward appearance, or that "identity" is a meaningful pursuit. Maybe we are starting to realize and even acknowledge that the drop-down menu of "identity" is sometimes designed by people who don't give a crap about us, and instead is done to fulfill agendas of control.
The funny thing about Supreme is how easy it is to make a fake copy of the brand merch as long as it isn't a brick with the logo indented on the surface. We have like 20$ Supreme pullover and shirts in South Korea and there's no official Supreme store here.
Hasan, is there any possibility of you covering the Dolce & Gabbana's racist marketing campaign video in China and the insulting Instagram conversation?
i just wanna say, i found this show 3 days ago, and i found you from scrolling through comedy binges. but i have not played my games for the last 3 days, i turn on my p.c i log into my game and then open YT and end up watching this show for 2 hours lol. Meaning ive spent 20-25 mins 17 different times. All of them were not only funny but very interesting and prompted me to want to get more involved and watch the news and PAY ATTENTION. SO THANK YOU FOR THAT! I also know this is two years late but this still lighting a fire under my ass to be connected and to know what's going on in current time.
I saw all those products behind him on the screen-- the crowbar, the bolt cutters, the brick-- and naturally I thought his graphics department made those up. Then he started introducing them individually. 😐 What is this life. BUT, by the end, I definitely wanted a Barbara Kruger logo t-shirt.
I simply love you and your show, Hasan ! You inspire me. Your biggest fan from Tunisia. ( It's in North Africa, in case you don't know where Tunisia is )
I don't think it's the logo, it's the name! Supreme is a very good name. A pricey brand with a name that makes you feel 'supreme' AND it's used to flex. The perfect strategy.
That was a myth. Don't know how it is today but it used to be that the appeal for Apple is it just works. Unlike Windows that constantly needs maintenance. Now I don't know about their ridiculously priced phones but their computers were always miles above the Windows pc.
@@aesinam Good to know. Makes me not mind that I never tried to buy one. Tee-hee! Like I have a grand to burn on a silly phone that I don't even use because I think it's stupid to have a computer/pager in your pocket 24/7. :D
damn that's crazy, so you buy the cheapest shoes ? don't you have to buy new ones every few months with max. $25 shoes ? i buy cheap shoes aswell but they have to be decent still so 40-70€ (i'm from Germany) most shoes under that price here are really crap quality.
I feel like Hasan is the right person to speak with/speak to the younger generations about political issues. He does it in a way that people listen to his words.
i think the joke was that Antoine was given a lot of money from being a retired NBA player and still managed to blow all his money on expensive things like exotic cars and jewelry which Hasan was referring to. He filed for bankruptcy in 2010 after having about 108 million.
It's not veblen effect here. It's snob effect because for veblen effect individual demand doesn't matter on other individuals' consumption as it is directly proportional to price of the commodity. Snob effect is when someone won't buy the commodity when others are buying more of it.
Hello!! PATRIOT ACT.. Hasan Minhaj man I'm Lhiak Ali from Oxford City UK, just a question are you related to singer Niki Minhaj??? By the way i do enjoy watching you're show its very entertaining and interesting and with the high mount of knowledge you share on topics all rounded and that.. Amen
There’s a guy at my school who is really tech savvy and finds weird, cool stuff on the internet. One day last year, he brought a bunch of supreme logo stickers and started selling them and sticking them everywhere. There was one in one of the oven mitts for a chem lab, one in the geometry teacher’s calculator, a bunch on different chairs around the building. My favorite is on the white board in the room for Government; It has the word court written after it. It became a huge meme at our school, all in the name of mocking those who take it seriously. A bunch of white, Christian, homeschooled kids turned a church into a hype building.
