I'm surprised by the thumbs down. This is the fairest through artist review i've seen.

It's really not though. He's comparing apples to oranges with the brush or pen lag. Ironically you can find videos on RU-vid that *show* how the iPad Pro does lag whilst drawing, especially in more demanding apps people would actually use for drawing. He's pretending the iPad Pro has enough of a matured app ecosystem for drawing for it to be useful for actual production, which is still kind of untrue. Yes, you can draw and yes most of it will be defined by your skills at drawing and less the app you're using. Windows apps in general always have the edge, especially on a Surface Pro that has decent performance. The performance you need to serious production! Its actually a bit pathetic to see people compare iOS to Windows as if they are ever on par. Heck, if Apple would release an OSX based iPad Advanced today that runs native OSX apps like the real Photoshop or Corel Painter, it would have been a whole different story. Until that happens though people can whine all they want about Windows being Windows, it's still the apps that make it in a whole different league than any iOS app so far. And yes Windows 10 has better than ever touchscreen functionality. That's not ignoring the fact apps on iOS have improved over time and feature more and more advanced editing, but so far just does not come close to native Windows apps that have matured over decades. Anyone serious about drawing also should not really care about how thin or lightweight the iPad Pro is. It's not as if you're going to be holding the iPad Pro in mid-air at eye height whilst drawing, you'd use the iPad Pro in your lap just like you would the Surface Pro. I still think people actually like being seen with an iPad Pro better than a Surface Pro, which should never really be a reason to pick one over the other. Last but not least, to each their own for sure and I'm not saying the iPad Pro should never be a consideration. It's a bit more affordable and anyone mildly into gaming will find themselves enjoying the overall experience for sure. However, he ignored important other details like the slightly higher screen resolution and just plain better screen on the Surface Pro overall. I do dislike how the Surface Pro does not come with the pen and keyboard dock by default, but I still feel the addition of both feels much more fleshed out than the iPad Pro with a Apple Pencil. Oh by the way, that Apple Pencil does not come standard with the iPad Pro either and it is battery operated as well. It largely has the same basic flaws as the Surface Pen does. And the Apple Pencil is hardly the first pen to feature tilt functionality. For what it's worth, the Surface Pro 2017 *does* have brush tilt support. I've been drawing on tablets for years and had tilt functionality over a decade ago, but have to admit I rarely ever relied upon it. It's not a deal making feature by any means. I also think the iPad Pro really should have had fast-charging to really be up to modern mobile spec. I'm kind of surprised it takes upwards of 4-5 hours to charge, which when mobile means when it's battery is dead, you're shit out of luck. The Surface Pro charges in about 1.5-2 hours *!!!* This means you can basically get it charged whilst having a lunch in a place to allows for charging. In comparison you would get about the same battery life overall whilst using the two.

No, they use different technology. Even older version of iPad do not support Apple Pencil. And Surface Pen only works on Surface series.
@whade62000

Or from the opposite direction: iPad Pro + Windows OS = golden It seems like the iPad has fewer problems since it has the pen sensitivity and battery life already down. The annoying part is that it doesn’t have the system to run superior Win apps, no ports, and awful file management. (And the Wacom buttons on the pen and the side would be useful, too.)

Hy, I own an iPad (air 1) and a Surface pro 4. And the thing is the following: Surface Pro is a Laptop... in a tablet form iPad is a ... TABLET! When I decided in December to get the Surface instead of the iPad I hoped for two things: 1. To get rid of carrying my Laptop on my travels - GOAL ACHIEVED! 2. To get rid of needing my iPad ... miserably FAILED! So... the surface is NOT a Tablet... and the iPad is not a Laptop! With the new iPad the only question is if it can replace the "easy work" you need to do so we do not have to cary both devices. I honestly doubt it... so.. I just think you can not compare the two devices. The surface is an AWFUL TABLET whilst the iPad Pro (the new one) is a BAD laptop! I think this sums it up!
@cristiansallai
@cristiansallai 7 лет назад
MountGraphics true! But I think still not to the point of a clasic "desktop" replacement! But as I said, probably the new iPad Pro with ios11 will be enough for "mild", every-day productivity tasks. I will get it in about a month and than I will try to see if I can "live" on my travels without the surface. :)

I agree with Brad's comment gazillion times. First, I'm a Windows user, office work. But I do comics too. There's something about Apple Pencil that is hyper perfect for me: it doesn't have this crazy button near the pen edge (I keep pressing them like in the bamboo pen because of the way I draw, my hand is kinda scrunched close to the pen edge) and I love how it naturally felt in hand, plus it has this tiltness thing effect that is absent in surface's pen, and the most important thing of all: the super responsiveness of the Apple Pencil, and the super refined line it could create. Apple Pencil is basically the perfect product that I've been waiting for for DECADES. And iPad Pro automatically the best "paper" for it. Unfortunately synching or moving to other software is kinda difficult, but with Astropad, the next best invention for the Apple-iPad combo, the iPad Pro is simply ZA BEST The downfall of Surface's pen is that it jitters when you do a careful line. I can't help to think that the pen is not tested on artists if it a jittery product in the first place. Probably Windows decided to have contract signers or office workers to test the pen, I'm serious.

There is a way to make straight lines in Procreate. When you draw your line, don't raise the pen off the surface at the end. Instead, if you move the pen up or down on the screen the end of the line will move in 30 degree increments. Although there aren't shapes like circles and squares in Procreate, you can download a lot of various free shape brushes off the internet. Yeah, it's a bummer that some of these things aren't included by default, but Procreate is an amazing drawing app if you take the time to understand how the features work.

I think we can all agree an iPad Pro with Mac OSX would be pretty awesome. I'm looking at the Surface vs. iPad Pro for teaching using OneNote for presentations with a lot of handwriting and on them and pdf markup. The Surface just seems so much more integrated in terms of pick up the pen and write, or just start typing on the keyboard. There always seems to be some process to go through on the iPad. That said, I hate to go back to Windows. Come on Apple. Give me my MacBook crammed into a tablet with pen support.

Andrew Ryan well....... since apple doesnt care about anything but money, we can hope but I dont see that happening anytime soon. Putting OXS in their tablets will lessen the revenue coming from their macbook line since specs wise ipad pro is powerful already.

"I think we can all agree an iPad Pro with Mac OSX would be pretty awesome" Oh yes, we can definitely agree. That would *actually* make the iPad experience better than the iOS based crap. However, the iPad Pro is not that and probably won't ever be that. It does not even come close to the idea of featuring fully featured native programs. I'm also going to argue Apple does not want to kill it's Macbook line, which might be the result of such a tablet + OSX combo for the huge amounts of students who choose the Macbooks.

With the new iPad Pro's 120Hz refresh rate, there's no more discernible lag. A huge plus against the Surface Pro. While the iOS app interfaces will take some getting used to, versus desktop class applications, it's a small price to play. Not to mention it's miles cheaper than the Surface Pro.

iPad Pro = sketching, enjoyment Surface Pro = finished works, productivity The fact that the reviewer is a long-time Mac user and still chose Surface in the end speaks volumes about Apple's current product line (at least, for illustrators). I definitely see the potential for the iPad Pro to be a great companion tool but not as an all-in-one production machine.

No, it doesn't, he's comparing a tablet to a PC and even then iPad Pro comes close, that speaks a lot about MS. It's like comparing Samsung Galaxy to MacBook Pro.

@PHeMoX
@PHeMoX 7 лет назад
@Roku: Not exactly sure what you mean, but the fact the Surface Pro is BOTH a tablet and a PC makes it a machine in an entirely different league than the iPad tablet. Yes, it's more like comparing a Samsung Galaxy Tab with a Macbook Pro to some extent, but especially ignoring how the Android platform (or in this case the iOS platform) just *does not and will not* provide the same kind of fully featured programs. People can pretend the iPad Pro has some apps that are on par, but they're really just being dishonest. What it really means is they choose to ignore the obvious limitations. And lets be fully honest here, neither the Surface Pro nor the iPad Pro most likely come close to a desktop PC with say 32Gb of RAM and a ridiculously fast GPU and CPU that enables virtually lag free drawing with even the most demanding brushes. You know, the type of PC most professional artists actually use in combination with a high-end drawing tablet? However for the ultimate mobile experience of coming at least ever closer to that, I'd look at the Surface Pro (or indeed the latest Surface Book these days) and completely and utterly ignore the iPad Pro for being 'just a tablet' with tablet grade apps.

I agree with this video 100%. Every single detail. If you could only have one, you'd have to go with the Surface Pro or Surface Book. But the stylus experience is superior on the iPad Pro. The enthusiasm killer on the iPad Pro though is iOS itself. It's responsible for all the trouble you have when trying to move files around. The enthusiasm killer on Windows...is Windows. It's crap that works correctly only sometimes, and when it does, it's never a great experience. It works, but it never feels great. I've used tablet PCs for a long time. I bought first a Note Pro 12, which would be a great device if it had more power and refinement. Then I got the iPad Pro. It's great for drawing. And nothing else. Even web browsing is rather crappy on an iPad because of the severe limitations of iOS.

It was quite a tusk to get used to touch screen when Apple introduce the iPhone but now it's part of our tech interaction. I think with the iPad Pro it's redefining or I should say going back to the tradition of doing things with out hand! It's going to be a pain to let loose of the keyboard and mouse but eventually hand gesture is the future!
@Qichar

I use a small solar bluetooth keyboard, the logitech K760, with my SurfaceBook. I used to have a SurfacePro and of course it works great with that device as well. It's so much better than the crappy keyboard that comes with the Surface line, and it has the added advantage of not having to be attached to the device. For illustration, digital painting and photo editing, I find this to be invaluable. I also own an iPad pro, and I find that this device has its pros and cons. I love the fact that the Pencil has tilt sensitivity, but this is a little gimmicky in most programs; the precision and degrees of tilt are nowhere near having enough levels to be practical. I love the fact that the iPad pro is friendlier as a grab-and-go kind of tool; I can work in coffee shops and libraries. However, the Surface Pro / Book feels more like a professional tool that I can work on and easily manage from a file perspective, backing up work, uploading to the cloud, etc. I find working with Apple's traditional hand-holding file security to be annoying and it tends to slow down the workflow. So what ends up happening is that I bring the iPad pro with me to do rough sketches, landscape thumbnails, anything that is related to work in the field. Then I bring it home and finish work or render sketches on my SurfaceBook.

I get your points, I know it's subjective in ways but when it comes to dollar to dollar value and utility and expandablity I hand it to the Surface or any of it's clones. No need for a laptop/desktop, tons of legacy software, no itunes dictating what you can/can't install, expandable through microSD card, video out, USB in, real multitasking, there's a lot more going for it in these ways. My friend pressured me into doing some art-streaming with him in multi-streaming on picarto. Didn't think my Surface Pro 4 could handle streaming+manga studio+skype+winamp, especially given it'd be over wireless. Well it did and does it every monday. Another limitation you can't do with the iPP and maybe you're not interested in steaming but it does show the power difference and got me into being more social with my art. Maybe the limitations help some, keeps you focused on projects (here I am typing a dumb long winded comment vs doing my comic page) and there's less to go wrong I guess. But I just can't recommend the iPP with the above in mind...especially with Apple doing weird shit like erasing people's music/audio files or putting music on their devices.

It all comes down to the values of both companies. Microsoft likes to think in terms of helping large businesses, and creating software/hardware that has many bugs and flaws that will be improved on later. Apple on the other hand, is all about perfecting it's sleek, and SIMPLE style, making its products and software easy and yet fun to use, while both creating new innovations that are great on a personal level, but leaving many features out on a larger scale that other companies do include. It's just funny for me to see the different thoughts on the tech business from Bill Gates and the late Steve Jobs still differ from each other today

As an artist myself, I would love to have either, especially on the go. The ipad pro's battery and smoother performance won me over but my main concern and what's stopping me from getting one is how quickly newer models and ios updates come out and once your ipad can no longer update to the current ios, your apps would no longer work. As for the surface pro, I have never used photoshop nor illustrator without the keyboard and the reason I consider even getting either of these two is portability, which means I would have to get the keyboard attachment as well which beats the purpose of leaving your laptop at home, and man, look at that battery life !

Agree on some of the nuanced nitpicks. Honestly, if not for Astropad, the iPad Pro falls wayyyyyyyyy down (and off) the ladder. But even with that boost, and as nice as the Pencil experience is, there's a definite separation, a game of Telephone when using an iPP/Astropad/Mac setup for WORK (as opposed to the "feeling out"/inspiration stage). It's a wonderful tool, but the Surface Pro never turns into a mosiac mess when playing through an animation you're working on. If you're mentioning the ticks on a Surface that slow you down bit by bit and accumulate, little things like the lack of a hovering cursor while using an iPad/Pencil blunts certain precision work (especially using menus, beziers, resizing windows) and slows down workflow when it all adds up. More than slowing it down though, I just never quite feel total comfort or command of the workspace. I stuck with an iPad Pro because I already owned an iMac, the SP4's "shoelaces" you mentioned, a lack of tilt on the stylus (which is okay on the Pencil, but not great), and exasperation with interface scaling (Adobe addressed it, many apps did not). If I had no machine, I'd easily pick the SP4 (plus a cheapish monitor), even over the Surface Book.

If you use the Adobe apps (draw, sketch, and so forth..) on an iPad, sending files to the desktop cc apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc..) is super simple. So your workflow can be a little more streamlined, that is if you don't mind switching between a tablet and a computer.

I know this video is like 5 years old but the iPad Pro is still my go-to. I've tried both Surface + iPad and the iPad wins hands down imo. I draw for a small web-comic and just having 120 refresh rate with the Pro Motion (2021) is a game changer. Apple Pencil is probably THE best stylus for any tablet ever.

i respect that your'e an artist, and probably tech reviews isn't something you do on the daily. but just to be clear, your issue that the surface takes a couple of seconds to come back on seems a bit misleading, so i just want to clarify: did you turn on the surface from a cold boot and the ipad pro from just standby? because that's what it looked like to me.
@thebradcolbow
@thebradcolbow 7 лет назад
Yeah, a couple folks called me out on that. It's not a cold boot, but the Surface tends to go into hybernation after a few hours to save batteries. So it doesn't always turn on that slow, but since I'm not using it as a full time machine that's usually my experience with it, and I wish I left that out because it definitely distracts from the point I was trying to make.

I think you can disable the hybernation. My Surface pro 3 boots in a second after I press any button on the keyboard to wake it up from sleep (after 12+ hours) This should help you a bit : )

to add up for cool features for your ipad pro, if you bought already is the app DUET to make ipad pro like a cintiq. i'm also planning to get an ipad pro, but i'm trying to weight in a lot of things to consider. first, workflow ( i can set up a dropbox account or cloud whenever i work with ipad pro then get it with my desktop) I have ipad air before so i have procreate app. but now, i'm rather confused what to get.

"It's not a cold boot, but the Surface tends to go into hybernation after a few hours to save batteries." This is actually just plain untrue. The Surface Pros do not show the Surface text when it comes out of a sleep. What you showed was a cold boot. It would otherwise go straight to your lock screen and with Windows Hello you would basically have an effortless return to whatever application you were using before!!! All in less than maybe 2 seconds or so. And for what it's worth, the iPad has a fairly aggressive hibernation mode as well. Chances are high most people will change the default settings to something less annoying for sure if they have a life with a lot of downtime. And lets be clear here, it is not like the Surface Pro goes into hibernation mode whenever you're actually using it anyway. Again, you're using Windows wrong if any of this is stopping you.

I was surprised you went back to to the Surface at the end. I am debating selling my cintiq companion, getting a surface and a cintiq 22. This way I can use my 'companion' device, the surface, to sketch and then bring home stuff to finish it on my big ol' cintiq 22hd. Thanks for the insight.

I have a surface and I'd never regret it, my art class has I pad pros for digital drawing and we use it, i absaloutly hate it! I hate that you need to charge the pen when batteries are easier to use and its not like a laptop so its way too simple for my taste, it's gotten to the point where I just bring my own surface to school. I also love how the surface lets you get drawing programs such as fire alpaca and paint tool sai. Where as the the I pad the art programs are average such as procreate (no hate if you prefer I pad pro, I'm just stating my opinion )

You're a really cool guy, thanks for posting all your reviews. I wouldn't have given the iPad a second thought, as I never touched a mac, and still feel biased. Hi Brad, great review. You may not be the right guy to ask but I'll try anyway (sorry it became long). Me: I'm a director of small architect studio (4 architects) and a tutor at an architecture school. I still draw and sketch by hand but the other guys all do fantastic CAD - 2D and 3D modelling - mostly Revit and Sketchup for some stuff. Everything is mac based although we run revit on parallels. I travel a lot and work between 3-4 locations. iMac in office, MacBook air and crucially iPad Pro 12.9 on the move. I had an open mind and tried both iPad pro and surface pro when I bought the iPad - the lag you described was what turned me away from the surface, whereas in the apple store I spent 30 minutes sketching an idea I had been carrying in my head and it just felt like a perfect replacement for my roll of sketching paper. Ever since I have been using the iPad every single day and although I suffer many of the workflow issues you describe I love it. My quandary: My MacBook air was originally intended for just basic tasks whilst travelling and is no longer app to what I ask of it. I've been waiting for ages for apple to update the MacBook pro and am pretty disappointed in the apparent lack of innovation in the most recent update. My Query: Should I just suck it up and buy the new MacBook pro and continue to travel with 2 machines or sell the iPad and go surface book?

I watched an earlier video of yours, suggesting surface pro had a better drawing experience than ipad in terms of the pen friction etc. I tried both the devices extensively and went ahead with ipad pro because... like you mentioned.. there was less between me and the drawing. Your review is just great, asserts me that i have made the right decision.

a tip for your surface pro, buy a usb/bluetooth keypad for $10 and re-program the keys to your most use shortcut using the small software "keytweak", and you will never need to use the keyboard again. it works beautifully for me that i can simply rest my left hand on the keypad and draw with my right hand.

I love that you threw in manga/clip studio. Most of the time I bring up what art program I use (manga/clip) and no one knows what I'm talking about. Sad everything or majority of people thin they need photoshop. I stopped using them when they started removing hard disks and required subscriptions. Its a rip and i rebelled. Now I use studio and monoprice or artisul. Best things ive ever used and great on my wallet. Loved the video thanks for the review

Great review Brad. I have one minor quip - you talked about moving assets between apps like it was a system advantage using Windows, but really you were moving stuff between two Adobe apps. The size something pastes in at doesn't have anything to do with the OS and everything to do with a unified software ecosystem. I won't argue that the lack of a file-system can be frustrating at times, but I'd wager that it would be just as easy to copy/paste from Illustrator and PS on iOS would work just as well, if they existed for iOS.

Hey Brad, Always appreciate your reviews and videos. In response to your comment that the iPad is just easier to get going in (I'm paraphrasing of course) On the Surface Pro 4, I just set Sketchable to my eraser click. Opens Sketchable, which opens the last thing I was drawing, which puts me right back where I was. No muss no fuss. Just thought you might find that useful.
@thebradcolbow

I had a shout out to Sketchable in here but it was one of the parts I cut because the video was getting ramble. That is the one app with the most potential for the Surface. It's like the Surface's Procreate.

hey Brad. Just to comment on a point you made on this comparison, that all vector programs on the iPad “fall short.” You may want to take a new revised look at Concepts from Tophatch. It has really come a long way in terms of usability. It is up to version 4.5.2, has watercolor effects and lots more. Yes, it does use a nonstandard approach but Concepts is constantly updating and adding features and they really listen to users. No, I am not paid by Tophatch to promote their products.

Wow good review, but my experience is the total opposite, I think the Surface is better in sketching, working and have more problems using ios. I had a learning curve when I used ios and none while using Windows 10. The Surface hardware runs circles around the iPad, the iPad is a good device but not enough for me, it just doesn't do everything like Surface, the Surface is more convenient imo. Good review though.

The iPad Pro is the minimalist approach while the Surface Pro is the everything approach. You just need to know what kind of artist you are. You see those guys that open up a canvas, and just paint. They don't care about layers, they don't zoom, don't pan, and don't even need an eraser! These guys are good candidates for an iPad Pro, but they can make magic with a stick in the sand. If you need more tools, a Surface Pro with flexible desktop software is probably your best bet.

Your review was so helpful! I'm leaning toward the Surface but am still up in the air. I'm a down and dirty Illustrator user (Windows). So everything you had to say about the surface being for power users w/out flipping between app after app really resonated with me. But the rumors of pen lag has me scared to commit... also that Pencil tilt though. Do I commit to apple just for the Pencil sensitivity and tilt?! I think the only solution is to 3-way call Microsoft and Apple and scream cry until they call they cops or give me a month to test each one.
@retrorich8351
@retrorich8351 7 лет назад
Did you ever pull the trigger on one or the other? I'm in the same situation...I'm more of a sketcher...but, the Pro would be a great laptop replacement. On the other hand, the iPad, with the ability to tilt the pencil while drawing, along with better pencil sensitivity is intriguing. I used a iPad, that was on display, just for a few minutes, and that pencil felt like the highest quality.
@theblackdahlia88

@retrorich I'm in the same boat as you. The Apple pencil feels one with the screen, it's such a pleasurable experience. Plus I've been an IOS user for almost 10 years. But the idea of having only 1 device is very appealing to me. But windows scares me as does the jitters in the surface pen. :/

I've been going back and forth for a while now and this was exactly the review I needed to see! Thank you Brad. I am definitely a Windows pc type user, I usually can't stand Apple. I still have my old classic iPod from way back before they basically became a phone cause I am determined not to upgrade it. I do traditional art, but I love to use my wacom to sketch out my compositions and do a quick color comp before I get to the canvas. Other than that I don't do digital art and I really don't plan to. I feel like the Surface might be waay more than I need. I really just want something portable to sketch on so I can take it on the go, or sketch on the couch. It sounds to me like the iPad might just be the way to go as a simple "companion" drawing pad, like you said. Which is really hard for my Windows mind to hear, lol. Thanks so much!

I had the SP4 first because on paper it seemed better, but that thing constantly crashed and was generally very unstable. The drawing programs available are also subpar compared to procreate for iPad. I switched to an iPad pro 6 months ago and it is just SO much better. No instability, and procreate is an unbelievably amazing drawing app, it’s got everything I need as a hobby artist, and I imagine it’s about as close as you’re going to get on a mobile device if you’re a professional.

Hey! Great video! I've been enjoying your channel for the past few months now, ever since I started researching pen displays I have personally been using a Cintiq 13HD because I already love my desktop to death and can't get out of the habit of using Photoshop, I've been using Photoshop for over 10 years now, way before I started drawing. I chose the Cintiq because I already had a great desktop computer, which I plan to upgrade as time goes on, and I wouldn't want to lose my preferred pen display every time I wanted to swap in a new graphics card. Personally my problem with the iPad pro is just how pricey it is, The Surface Pro is a full blown computer while the iPad Pro is not, and the iPad pro with the pencil and a smart cover is about the same price as the Cintiq 13HD touch and a Surface Pro 4. I think the iPad Pro is a cool device, but I hope it's mostly a gateway for the pencil to work on every iPad in the future. The iPad pro seems like a great device for those who aren't good at computers, and don't mind spending the extra money to get an easy digital drawing experience.

I've had my SP4 for since January. I have never warmed to it :( I quickly returned to my 3rd gen iPad as my primary computing device. I never found the desktop software to be optimised for the high display of the Sp4. Windows 10 has had a lot of problems but only the sp4. Because I only used it here and there I literally kept bumping up against Windows update. It's hard to use a device which force resets itself while your using it to ensure the system is secure. I've meaning to sell it. It been at least a month since I rebuilt it and in that time I have used it not once.

The closest experience to Photoshop on iPad Pro is PaintStorm Studio. ProCreate is a great app, but it's pretty skeletal compared to PaintStorm Studio. Coming from desktop computers, PaintStorm Studio is a much more comfortable transition because it's set up just like a desktop program. Menus and all. But they can all be hidden to maximize the workspace. Palettes can be resized. And the interesting thing is that shortcut "buttons" can be placed strategically around the interface. It's a fascinating program. It's like a cross between Photoshop and Corel Painter. The brush engine is more like Painter, but the editing tools, although not as powerful as Photoshop, seem to be the most complete on iOS.

I guess the trade off is that the more the programs can do the more likely lag will be meanwhile with simpler programs they are a lighter alternative so lag will be nonexistent. I have a Cintiq companion 2 that lags ALL THE TIME in photoshop and I’ve tried everything to get rid of it but to no avail. I could use a different drawing app but I’m used to photoshop a lot more. I think I might get an iPad Pro because I’m really sick of the lag

I currently use both. When the SP4 came out, i bought the high end i7, but ended up returning it. I wanted it to replace my mac, to do both art, programming and light gaming. Though it wasnt enough really. I want more usb ports than 1, i want more performance & storage than what it gave me. Later though I was missing having the surface with its drawing capabilities, so i picked up the core m3 model just for that. It's worked out quite well. I still use my mac for programming, and some occasional gaming. If you need to do stuff with photoshop, you probably want a more powerful surface than what I bought.

Thanks for your comment agm2004. I'm thinking of the low-end SurfacePro 4 just for the touch ability for clients and just to have a cheap Windows 10 machine. I sure hope Apple creates an iPad/Mac hybrid. They have a patent which displays 2 different OS's depending on angle of device. Perhaps that will happen.
