Yes you are correct because you are using a modem only but when you use a modem/router combination you do not have to reboot your modem

Those modem router combos can be tricky. But you're right because they've intergated the modem and router into one box they should not need to be power cycled to get the outside IP address. There are different ways to connect two routers to the same modem. @@richardlloydusa Thanks i've got the AP side of things sorted thanks to some help from your videos, I may have too many routers now but it's been fun, I had to try it, I'm one of those, If you plug two routers into the modem on reboot it selects one and ignores the other so I see in your video you have come off the gateway to create two seperate networks so I will have a play around with this and maybe order another router for when the wife is out and just act casual when she returns. thanks again !

Here in uk we only have Routers which connect directly to the telephone exchange line socket so I'm intrigued to try understanding where one would find a Modem to use to say bypass a defective Internet Providers Router ? Are internet connection systems different in countries ? We used to use dial-up modems a couple of decades ago and that was the last time i remember hearing of the term Modem ? Here the Router connects directly to the copper-wire landline socket using a standard RJ45 phone-wire connection so if the Router should fail I can't see how a direct internet connection can be acheived as we don't have a seperate Modem ? The UK is growing by leaps and bounds on broadband. I believe you have ADSL (commonly called DSL in America). Cable, coaxial cable internet is what I have. Fiber to the home (FTTH), also called fiber to the premises (FTTP), is also available to me. In fact ADSL and dial up is available to me and the newest player Starlink too. I'm very grateful for all my options. Modems take analogue signals and convert them to digital. You actualy do have a modem but it is built into your router (Modem/Router combo) so there is no way to separate them, short of buying an ADSL Modem and a separate router (I have done this to avoid the rental fee on the unit the provider gave me). If you're leasing the Modem/Router you should look into buying your own as it will save you money in the long run (only if your Internet provider allows it) So if your device happened to fail more than likely your Internet Service Provider (ISP) would replace it. man i am having a hard one with a tp link mr3420 v5 (EU) it`s a cheap one got openwrt running on it no problem in the hope it will solve my dongle connectivity problem the k5160 from huawei the problem is i can`t revert to OEM firmware no matter what , i listen to the request from the bootloader and it`s tp_recovery.bin so i changed the orginal oem file to this name and sent it via tftp , nothing good it goes in a form of soft brick and flashed then i put back openwrt that worked but in no way i can make the orginal oem to work again , any suggestions ?

ps should i try to strip the boot from the firmware and if so how much of it and then try via tftp again ?

I'm not sure it will work. I do not own this router so I can't give you any first hand advice. @@richardlloydusa i managed to get back the oem firmware by stripping the boot part from the original bin file then flashed it via tfpt , but i can`t solve the problem of the modem not beeing recognized i belive something is wrong with the modem though i do not know how to querry this usb dongle with AT commands in order to get some info out of it , tried with putty but i can`t connect to him and i dont have the knowledge to dive into modifying usb drivers
