Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania has been getting A LOT of stick lately. Ant Man 3 is being called the worst MCU movie, Phase 5 of the MCU is off to a bad start, the MCU is dead, and while I get most of the negative feedback, I do think there's a fair amount of hyperbole when it comes to Ant-Man Quantumania. As arguably the world's biggest Ant-Man fan, I guess I was predisposed to enjoy this one and sure maybe even had a bit of a bias. That being said, I was fully expecting my reaction to the latest MCU movie to be: ant man and the wasp quantumania is bad. Surprisingly, that wasn't the case. I had fun with the new ant man movie and think it deserves more love. I actually found it to be the best post Avengers Endgame movie we've gotten so far. I see the cracks, I see the problems, my reaction certainly wasn't: ant man 3 is perfect, BUT I think it's enjoyable, has a lot more heart than it gets credit for AND is a great trilogy capper to the ant man trilogy! Griffin (@griffschiller) gives you his ant-man and the wasp quantumania movie review and breakdown explaining why ant man and the wasp quantumania is a good movie, why ant man 3 is good, why ant-man and the wasp quantumania is underrated, along with explaining Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. Enjoy this ant-man and the wasp quantumania video essay and ending explained video!

Thank you for your very thoughtful review of Quantumania, and all three Ant-man films. I myself enjoyed Quantumania a lot and didn't understand why it's rejected so unfairly by the critics. Also, this movie is actually less formulaic than most of other MCU films which makes this movie even more special.

> , I REALLY liked it for what is was A rare statement in modern entertainment conversation these days - most people seem incapable of judging a movie for what it tries to be and spend more time than it took to watch the movie/show complaining about how it's not good enough (otherwise interpreted as "exactly what I wanted"). Few people these days try to engage with media on the media's level, but instead try to act like the ideal work of art (commercial or otherwise) is allegedly flawless and devoid of plotholes, when in reality, they're not understanding that their personal take on a film is solely their opinion, not an objective fact of the movie's quality (which can't be objectively quantified anyway).

My biggest problem with the movie was that Kang appeared 1 hour into the movie, with a 15-minute heist and a 40-minute third act. But when I came home I showed my wife "The Wizard of Oz" for the first time and I knew Marvel compares Kang to the wizard and I realized it's very similar: A few minutes in the real world, get sucked in the world, being received into the world by strangers we spend a little too much time with. We hear about the "wizard or conqueror", we see familiar faces but playing other characters. The wizard appears very late in the movie just to send the protagonist on a 15-minute quest and after that, a third act that shows the wizard is only human, but through a very simple solution the protagonist goes back home. It made me appreciate the movie and I'm excited to see it again.

I mean I’m genuinely happy for you if you liked it. I think it’s bad, in fact I think it was good or at least descent and they cut half of the story arc. They set up an interesting internal conflict for Scott, only to do nothing with that. Scott has grown from this movie, but we don’t see the growth, just the end product of it. Also Kevin has got to do better with giving these vfx teams more time, even if it means less movies. But yeah idk, it wasn’t terrible but I wouldn’t say it was good either.

I do agree that there’s a lot of deeper context between decisions like Janet not opening up about her experiences in the Quantum Realm, but unfortunately the film doesn’t take time to explore those concepts too much. It’s too plot heavy and nothing else.

I can see this, but I don't think that's this films problem/fault. I feel that Disney does this a lot, where they constantly amp up their ip's. This movie suffered from constant rewrites due to Disney not liking the original direction.(Kang wins in the end) However I do think that a lot of the hate that this film gets is from the CGI on theatrical release,(thanks to COVID this film had to be rushed.) and the fact that "If KaNg Is ThE dEvIl ThEn HoW dOeS hE lOsE tO aNtMaN" people sleep on aNtMaN to begin with. Hes a trained fighter, and an avenger. Also he doesn't win, Kang looses due to his suit being damaged. This film released on my bday, Feb 17th and I've slept on it until 2 days ago. And I honestly can't see where the hate comes from. "It's to comedic" it's an ant man movie. "The CGI was bad" this movie got rushed because of COVID and was being made hand in hand with Wakanda Forever. "Kang the Conqueror Isn't that scary" this one I don't get at all, he's wiped out timelines, killed trillions already, and he legitimately disentagrates his victims, Sure he looses to anta, but the movie explained that these already advanced ants went through millions of years of evolution, becoming a class 2 civilization, also they got merked by Kang off screen(sure making it off screen is a cop out, but like CGI aint cheap) I feel that people push the criticisms of other marvel IP's issues onto this just because of a rocky release. Rewatch on Disney+ and these issues seem to fade.

People can say what they will about the script or their preference against having a single Kang be the villain rather than variants of him (that's seriously a complaint I've seen some throwing out, as if the whole variant thing being part of Kang's whole package and we were told at the end of Loki in his first appearance that this would be the case), but I'm interested to see what he'll do with the other variants in Kang Dynasty. I'm super stoked to see Majors in Creed 3

The Antman movies generally have great cast. That's why I hate it when they're wasted in them. Quantumania cast is pretty bad though. They got Bill Murray to play a Grandmaster knockoff. Newton who only has 1 expression. And the 3 Wombats replaced by uninteresting and nonsensical freedom fighters.

@@ThePrinceofHisOwnKingdom another "it didn't do these arbitrary things I wanted" non criticism. Bill Murray is an old man who pretty much exclusively does cameos these days. @xtaylor4123
@xtaylor4123 Год назад
While I respect your opinion on Quantumania, and I am genuinely glad to see many people enjoying it, this movie was a solid mixed to negative for me. For me, this movie felt empty and as a whole was a disjointed mess, but this issue is a symptom of a much larger problem I am having with the entire MCU right now. This issue with Quantumania is an issue that doomed the first Ant Man and the Wasp for me and may ultimately doom the Multiverse Saga as a whole. And Please get comfortable because I have a lot to say about this, and let me preface this comment/essay/rant by saying that I have nothing against MCU fans who care the most about the big Avengers or Endgame-level events. These big interconnected crossover events are a perfectly great reason to keep up with this franchise, and these types of MCU projects are able to combine the interests of those who care about connectivity and those who value character focused stories into something truly special that we can all enjoy. With all that out of the way though, my biggest problem with the MCU that Quantumania has further solidified is the sense that Marvel is afraid of making smaller, self-contained, and character-focused stories. With the first Ant Man and the Wasp, Multiverse of Madness, and now Quantumania, it feels like Marvel is trying to appease the MCU fans who complained about the first Ant-Man, the first Dr. Strange, and the earlier films of Phase 4 not being relevant enough to the wider saga or not connected enough to the rest of the universe. In the first Ant-Man and the Wasp, you can feel Marvel trying to force in connections to the rest of Phase 3 and set up for Endgame by making the plot completely dependent on the events of Civil War, and constantly reminding the audience within the movie of how it is connected to Civil War. It also uses the quantum realm as just exposition for how the heroes can time travel in Endgame rather than further exploring its mechanics or hinting at its importance as a location in the wider Ant-Man trilogy. Then with Multiverse of Madness, Marvel gave into the complaints about how Dr. Strange’s first solo movie was pointless and how Phase 4 at that point wasn’t building up to the next big event fast enough by having Strange’s next magical adventure and next step in development as a character take a backseat to exposition for the Multiverse Saga. It is seems that at the last minute, Marvel cut out a second act that focused on a self-contained story about how the multiverse pertained to the mystic arts and replaced it hollow with a showcase of all the characters Disney had gotten the rights to back from Fox and empty set up for Secret Wars. And now with Quantumania, Marvel gave into the complaints about the first two Ant-Man movies by removing Luis and the other core side characters that this vocal section of the fans thought were too annoying and pointless. Then they sidelined Ant-Man and the remaining cast in their own movie so we can waste no time getting to Kang and set-up for the rest of the saga. When I was watching Quantumania in theaters, it felt like there was a first act about Scott, Cassie, and the Pyms as a family and a second act about world building for the people of the quantum realm that were completely cut out as to not distract from the all-important set up for Kang Dynasty. Even Kang, for all Marvel held back to keep the spotlight on, wasn’t a character but rather just exposition for how he will eventually become the next big bad of the MCU. The best parts of Quantumania for me were the first five to ten minutes that focused on the new dynamic of the Pyms as a family, and MODOK. MODOK was the best character because he was the only one who had a true arc and development, but those are the only two notable aspects about this movie for me. As someone who’s personal favorite MCU movie is the first Ant-Man, I was cautiously optimistic about Quantumania because the final trailer presented it as a self-contained arc for Scott about the loss of time with his family during the blip. But as I said before, it feels like that version of the movie was cut up and cobbled back together as this empty information dump at the last minute. The only reason Quantumania didn’t ruin the legacy of the Ant-Man trilogy is because the first Ant-Man and the Wasp already did that for me. The point in all this is that I believe Marvel is listening to the fans who just want relevance and connectivity to the wider MCU too much. Like I said though, I have nothing against these MCU fans, and it’s okay that we all value different things out of this great cinematic universe. But Marvel shouldn’t change movies like Quantumania that were clearly meant as more self-contained stories to only the standards of these fans, just as they shouldn’t change interconnected movies to fans like me who value standalone projects. This strategy of editing and reshooting regular releases to make them more connected and relevant to the wider saga just leaves all sections of fans frustrated by a final product that is poorly made and disjointed. It is also the self-contained character moments for these different heroes in the MCU that give the true weight to events like Infinity War and Endgame more so than the spectacle and the interconnected universe gimmick. Phase 4 early on actually took its time with more self-contained and character-focused stories in its first few films. I know Black Widow, Eternals, and Love and Thunder were not great, but at least they tried to put their value into the individual film rather than just riding the hype of being a piece of the next big event. But ever since No Way Home, an example of a movie that pleases all sections of the fandom by building its returning characters and set-up for the wider overarching story around a more-self contained arc for Holland’s Peter by the way, Marvel seems to be rushing right into the next Endgame-level event with no time for of the moments in between. This harms Multiverse Saga because this mindset seems to be the reason why the next official Avengers crossover-type event is Kang Dynasty at the very end of the Saga, and the buildup to this is relegated to regular releases like Quantumania and Multiverse of Madness being hijacked to give exposition. Marvel should have had Phase 4 and Phase 5 build up to smaller Avengers movie that can rightfully be dedicated to building the next big event, but it seems that this didn’t happen out of fear of damaging the Avengers brand by having their next installment be a less than Endgame-level experience. I know I have said a lot in this reaction to Quantumania, but it brought my current issues with the MCU so far to the forefront that I really needed to get all this off my chest. And again, I very respectfully disagree with your thoughts and I am genuinely happy to see that you and many fans are loving this movie.

I was not hyped for this movie but I saw it in IMAX, my jaw wasn't dropped but I had a good time. I found the family theme heartwarming. All the main characters care about each other immensely and that drives most of their decisions. I also noticed the mcus obsession with suits. The armor and suits in Wakanda Forever looked so bad, but the ant suits are so freaking cool. I agree with the cartoon vibe, and I think it was a major reason for it being fun. I loved this film, I saw it in 3D Imax and was blown away. It's simply objectively a visual treat in iMax, no way around that. Guarantee most of these people hating in comments haven't even seen the movie properly or saw a shxtty phone recorded in a theatre stream with casino ads all over the screen. Also, most of the critiques of this movie are just flat-out wrong. This movie has gotten criticized over more plot holes that don't exist than I ever saw before. And the level of petty with the reviews, I heard people question why Cassie wanted a lime after going Giant so thy dropped it down a grade I'm like wtf, I do not remember people wondering how Hawkeye and Black Widow could breathe on Vormir for instance of being petty. Like people are not even giving this movie a chance. And that's sad because it delivered on all on fronts imo and the highlight of the movie is not just Majors but the entire cast acting their asses off and having real chemistry. So many great subtle moments in this film like when Kang captures Scott and Cassie and Scott turns to Cassie and says 4th time in jail how about you, harkening back to the convo right before getting sucked in, and she gives him a mean look before softening her face into a heartfelt smile. The negativity over such a feel-good film is just alarming. I thought somebody was going to die in this movie but by the end of the movie, I was hoping not because I love the family dynamics too much. I knew Modok would turn on Kang the moment Scott said Darren and you see the crack in the armor, Cassie said Dad it's the bee guy and Darren smiled and said Cassie I almost didn't recognize you. When Kang told Modok to kill Cassie, Modok gave Janet a regretful look, and when he saw Cassie he clearly was not shooting to kill. Modok death scene is one of the funniest moments in MCU history. I said it. It's hilarious. Hank's face when he told Scott we were like brothers, the fact they all ran back actually and didn't sincerely want to help Modok, Scott telling Modok he's in and can die an Avengers. The whole movie was leading up Scott to proving himself worthy of being an Avenger with how he was waving that flag the whole film and he delivered or at least tried.

I love the entire Antman Family, Kang made for a great villain, Modok was a lot of fun & is now my new favorite Avenger. 🤣🤣🤣 I came home to check the reviews for the film, only to find out the internet deemed the film as some sort of criminal act committed against humanity and "Will make you hate movies".🤣🤣🤣 Its just a fun superhero movie. I think Hypercriticism & Hyperbole might be the real plague here.

I really found myself enjoying the movie. My gripe with it is that it just tries too much, so much so that none of the story's aspects feel truly satisfying. I love the rich and interesting world, they created with the quantum realm. I loved all that this world had to offer (i.e. our hole goop and his friends). I looooooove Kang/Jonathan Majors, I liked the family dynamics, and I even liked Darren as M.O.D.O.K. . However, at the end of the movie I felt myself wishing they had spent more time to explore and focus on all these things more. It's just too much for one movie. I just was really sad, that we had to basically leave all the things behind, which made the film special, in the end. I do wish they had gone with M.O.D.O.K. as the main antagonist, as they had originally planned to. I also would have liked to see them spend more time exploring what Janet not telling them, has done to the family. It was brushed off too easily for my taste. And I wish they had introduced Kang in a "part 2" movie, in which they focus more on the conflict within Scott, due to missing so much of his daughter's life. The idea/offer of getting time back, to spend it with his family, is alluring and tempting. Wish they had introduced a "real", relatable inner conflict for Scott, so we can see him evolve by being confronted with the consequences of his choices.

Cassie was the biggest surprise for me, as I saw no trailers and went in blind, was shocked at what was done with her. I felt this film set lots of things in motion, similar to Age of Ultron (which to me gets better and better the more I’ve understand how important its events are). And as a bonus, they even redeemed Darren Cross. The messages you pointed out were also lovely. I had no complaints with this film and feel it’s being hated WAY TOO MUCH. Oh well, proceed on, MCU. I've been enjoying the Ant Man movies and character. The quantum scenery was generally pleasant. Some of the characters were very cookie cutter. The main thing i didn't like about this movie, that seems to be a common theme in super hero movies and especially marvel ones is where people keep information from each other for no apparent reason instead of just saying things which would help everyone. You would think in a universe where life hangs in the balance at all times absolute honesty would be the primary goal of all the characters.

9:35 "She's reminding him of the injustice still taking place in the world" What is antman suppossed to do about half the population coming back, even in Falcon's show the goverment is struggling to solve this problem. Her form of protesting is using advanced weapons on a police cruiser and having zero consequences because she's atman's daughter. This is poor execution of a good premise. 9:48 - You're making it sound like saving the universe is something minor and as if it has no impact to the younger generation of kids who get to have an insight on the sacrifices the avengers had to make to defeat Thanos and return half the universe. 10:20 - As a father why would he want his daughter to be in a war for people they have no infomation about and at this point they don't know much about Kang. This essay makes a lot of excuses for bad writing and direction, Janet had plenty of time and oppotunities to tell her family about Kang she just didn't for the plot to move forward. Cassie learning about quantum physics from notes in a basement and creating a device that Hank couldn't even have built after his years of experience in quantum physics is lazy. Socialist ants is a joke and so is the execution of this movie.

I think the issue with quantumania is that it works phenomenally... as an outline. the story sounds great summed up in a 20 minute video. but in execution its just really sloppy. the script is all surface level. there's nothing going on between the lines. not a lick of subtext. and while the CGI can look beautiful at times, it drops the ball a good 30-40 percent of the time, and thats just not good enough when 95 percent of your movie is CGI. That being said, Majors knocks it out of the park in every scene he's in.

It feels like you’re speaking more to the story that they tried to tell instead of what they actually did. These are all fair praises, but the film doesn’t execute these things well. It leans too comedic for what could’ve been a more serious film. I like the story we got, but the movie itself doesn’t have enough conversations amongst its characters to flush this all out. I honestly loved the first half of the movie, but the ending was horribly rushed. The best example of this is the rebels, who we meet for about 2sec before they become an afterthought, coming back for the final battle. The movie didn’t make me care about them or anything Cassie was trying to preach about bc she was coming off as a self righteous liberal who thinks solving problems is as simple as being nice and doing the right thing. Maybe I’m jaded, but idgaf about ppl who’s lives got better post blip simply bc they inherited the wealth of ppl lost. It’d be like inheriting your father’s fortune while he’s in a coma and then he wakes up and takes it back, it’s his right to do so and you should build something of your own.

Antman became my 2nd favorite hero after I saw his first movie. I just saw this movie and Shazam 2 the day before. Both these movies are really good. They’re not the best, not good enough to set records but they’re really good. People just don’t know what’s good and others are way too quick to listen to them without seeing for themselves. I think people are letting the failures of the DCEU dominate their way of thinking when it comes to movies and good movies are failing because of it. And sometimes a good movie can fail not because of what people think but because it wasn’t marketed correctly. Like Treasure Planet

The movie starts with Scott living a great life, with his daughter a bit disappointed at him for not being an activist. And the movie ends with Scott living a great life with Scott still not being an activist. I love when Cassie says: “yeah you saved the universe; but what have you done for us lately” Nothing better than seen an ungrateful spoiled brat with no real world experience lectures you around. I like the part where Scott learns nothing, faces no personal consequences to his own life, doesn’t get conflicted with any ethical choice, does not get to do any sacrifice and gets to continue living his life as if nothing happened. Also loved the constant amount of Deus ex machina, exposition and plot contrivances scattered all throughout the movie. The following sums up the dialogues: Cassie: “Stop being a dick” Modok: “It’s too late. Look at me. I am such a dick” Cassie: “It’s never too late to stop being a dick” Modok: Oh wow, you are right, i’ll join you against kang. A supervillain getting beat by ants was the best decision to make him threatening and scarier than Thanos. I mean Thanos only beat Hulk, Thor and Loki, which is lame in comparison to seeing a super villain getting defeated by bugs. The decision to reshoot the finale last month before they released the movie was also great. Who needs Scott making a heroic sacrifice when Cassie can just open a portal and prevent the sacrifice from happening. Who needs consequences, when you can make a movie feel like it was all a bad dream. 10/10 movie. Go watch it!

I can see if Rick and the family explored the quantum realm it'd be like this film. Kang being an evil Rick. But from a 3rd act structure for films the ending I feel does feel to light, rushed, and episodic. Like after the 3rd act any other Rick and Morty ep could be watched. It sounds like the film will be fun & enjoyable, but I've also heard a lot of criticisms for the film which sound fair, i.e.: - Janet holds onto her info about Kang for too long - we don't spend enuff time w/ the Freedom Fighters (or at least see flashbacks of their suffering) to acc care about them - the muddy brown visuals of the Quantum Realm get old fast - ppl miss the more grounded elements of the Ant-Man films, like Luis - ppl are surprised Kang (the big bad of this saga) was defeated by Ant-Man despite having annihilated entire universes & killed bigger Avengers like Thor before - some of the characters (like Hank, Cassie) don't feel very believable on a green screen set - it didn't make sense for Cassie to be able to open a portal back into the Quantum Realm, etc

As a big Ant-Man mcu films fan, this movie had a lot of good ideas to me but couldn't follow through. For me if the end SPOILERS Had just ended with hope and Scott stuck in the quantum realm with the portal closing behind them, Scott tells her they'll find their way out together this time with the ants and rebels help and that there is "room to grow" for everyone to work together to help them get back and with ksmg teleported through the engine to ancient Egypt where her is worshipped as a god king and says "thank you Scott," as he's carried away to his new throne. Meaning kang has escaped and is a threat out there. Also a great ending for hope and Scott in this film for me. I feel it would've had more stakes and heart imo. It was an okay movie but for me it was so close to amazing but the ending was too light. Ant-Man and antman & the wasp are my favs and quantumania for me is a lesser entry. My head canon is it's an amazing duology

We can agree to disagree. I enjoyed the first two Ant-man movies. I did not enjoy this one at all. Kang was underwhelming... He had some great scenes and was well acted but he doesn't come off as treating by the end of the movie which makes him weak. The start to phase 5 starts off disappointing. Wasp wasn't giving any character beats. She had hero saving moments but said very little. I honestly disliked the dinner scene with all the characters dissing Ant-man. Janet was mishandled in the writing and character development in my opinion. Most of the humor was miss and off. All the new side characters where Meh. I could go on and on. Going to end with this. I hated intensely what they did to Modok!
