For YEARS I have been fighting alone against the entire world with TASM2 as my favourite superhero film, let alone Spider-Man film. Thank you so much for this.
Bruh literally the same thing, like every time there's something related to the three Spider-Men or just even something that talks about the TASM series, I open the comment section et say *"Well....here we go again.."*
I really liked the silence in this film, where he just stares, cry or think. You could just feel his problems. The fact that he's obsessed about his parents is amazing unlike the other 2 spider-man who never bother.
Finally a review that’s not just crapping on these movies. Andrew was always my favorite Spider-Man. I love the other two as well, but I related to Andrew’s the most
@karma oh thank you my friend, without you I would have looked like a fool, now I can go back and change my spelling of the word 🙂. Next time I'll listen in English class.
@@dasonbane2839 I think you’re the one who’s poorly written since you have to insult people just because their perspective and opinion doesn’t match yours.
Andrew Garfield was actually playing the character in a very meaningful way, his performance has always been underrated, he honestly played Peter in a more genuine way; for the first time.
I absolutely love the TASM movies. They are my favourites of all of the Spider-Man movies. And TASM 2 specifically is #1 for me. I love Peter/Gwen so much. It is easily the best/most chemistry filled of all the romantic pairings in any of the Spider-Man movies for me. I just connect to all the relationships (especially Peter/Gwen and Peter and Aunt May) in these two movies and this one in particular way more than the other movies. Great job from Andrew, Emma and Sally. This movie breaks my heart, I still cry each time Gwen dies. I wish there was a different ending for Gwen. I'll hold on to hope for a happy ending where both are alive for Gwen/Peter somehow lol. And even though the movie broke my heart, it is without a doubt the best Spider-Man movie to me. Great video.
I don’t think Peter and Gwen’s dynamic is that great. Remember what Gwen does when Peter tells her he feels awful for going back on the promise he made to her dad? She basically tells him forget about the promise you made to a man that gave his life to save you and the city. It’s really not that hard, Lol.
I always wondered why everyone hate the Andrew Garfield Spiderman like its so good it got the jokes the problems of spider Man and his losses and just saying his suit is the best
@@sus-ih1ce There are still aspects of his characterization that I think people are right to criticize. Like his decision to go to England with Gwen. That comes at a time where he knows his best friend is dying, and even if Peter doesn’t think he can save him most people that have dying loved ones usually want to stay at their side to give them as much love and comfort as possible in their final moments. Peter has also found out how corrupt Oscorp is from his dad’s video message, but doesn’t think that warrants any more investigating? Ok then.
@@FilmSpeak Thank you very much for making this!!! I needed this, as not that long ago, one annoying RU-vidr basically implied people shouldn't trust me because I prefer The Amazing Spider-Man 2 over Into the Spider-Verse (You probably disagree with me which is fine. I know I'm in the vast minority on ITSV) to the point where I ended up blocking that RU-vidr.
I disagree with your take on Harry Osborne and Peter's relationship. I don't think Peter was trying to force himself into his life but rather be a good friend to him and connect with someone he hasn't seen in ages. Otherwise, great analysis, while it has its flaws I don't think TASM 1 and 2 deserve the hate they get and this love letter to these movies proves it.
I think both can be true. I think it's telling that the two haven't spoken in years and it took a tragedy to rekindle that "friendship." I think Peter was looking to fill a void, and while going to comfort Harry, subconsciously I would say, found a new way to fill it.
@@FilmSpeak I mean, Harry wasn't around for years and only returned what a tragedy took place. I don't think it was the tragedy giving Peter a reason to reach out, it was the tragedy giving Harry a reason to come home. Then as soon as Peter realised he was back he reached out. But like the first guy said, this is really my only problem here. Incredible video, I loved it.
I felt if anything harry was forced on us the audience we didnt know anything about this Harry Osborn or learn much about his relationship with Peter so when he became the Green Goblin it felt so hollow
Honestly, i never got the huge amount of hate these movies got either. I get the flaws, but IMO if you put all of the flaws of both of these movies together, it's still not enough to call these “awful disasters”. Hell, i grew up with the Raimi movies, and yet each and every day my love for the Webb movies keeps growing beyond those somehow, there's just something about these two films that I really love.
Both of the Webb films were made exclusively so that Sony could continue to profit from the character's IP This is what capeshit lovers like you worship: literal corporate products, instead of genuine works of art. Truly embarrassing and sad
But I dont think anyone that criticizes these movies says they was an "absolute disaster". There's pretty much universal praise for Garfields portrayal. Its just its problems add up to make it not a very good movie.
16:35 You made me understand why the parents sub-plot even matters. His father died keeping his research out of the hands of Oscorp. And Peter learned only his blood is compatible with the research. This explains his reluctance to give his blood to Harry Osborne. He knew it would be dangerous or at best give his father's research back into Oscorp's hands. And he cannot reveal this without really giving away his identity. If he didn't understand the value of his DNA and its relationship to Oscorp he might have helped Harry.
@@dregamingz The plot of this film is underrated. It needs a lot of focus, but I started to realise what they were trying to do. On top of the blood, the film is also about Peter losing everyone. His parents, his friend, possibly Gwen and then actually Gwen, Aunt May struggling. I think that's why hearing that his father cared about him was supposed to be significant. It rekindled his hope in those around him and made him appreciate Gwen enough to want to go to London with her
There's one problem tho, the movie is structured in a way that Peter doesn't find out about the cross-species blood and the danger of giving Oscorp the human spider DNA until near the end of the movie when Peter has rejected Harry by that time.
The Amazing Spider Man 1 is what got me Spider-centric, but I think any Spider Man movie can do that (except those without Spider Man in them, *cough Venom Morbius *cough
I was one of those people who hated this movie after it came out. I can’t lie, I fell into mob mentality without actually critiquing the film. Instead I chose to just ride the wave. I recently rewatched this film a couple of months ago and it’s my favorite Spider-Man movie and one of my favorite comicbook films. TASM movies are honestly good and I wished he ended up in the MCU. I’m actually the most hyped for Garfield to come back, if he does, in No Way Home but let’s be real he’s definitely coming back. I agree 100% with this take.
your hero will dance with trances in "Marvel". No. Andrew tells the truth he won't be there. signature... error.... signature with the devil. body.... but not Andrew.
I don't remember ever hating it, but I don't remember ever loving it. It's been a long while since I've seen it, but not because I haven't wanted to, just because I don't have a way to watch it and I can't bring myself to watch it out of superhero fatigue
I’m so glad other people also love this movie. I’ve loved it since it came out and yes it may have problems, but no movie is perfect. For me, it’s a diamond in the rough!
For as messy as this movie is, I keep finding myself rewatching that ending. Seven years later, I'm still drawn to Peter finding the strength to put back on the suit after listening to Gwen's speech, Jorge putting on that Spider-Man costume to face the rhino, that mask being a symbol of this city standing up to villains like the Rhino, the way the music swells as Spider-Man swings in, how the city rejoices. I love that ending
But sadly the beginning part of the movies told us that we shouldn't root for this Spiderman.. This Spiderman choose to tell all of his jokes first than try to save the world.. After he's running out of jokes then he will try to save the world.. And not only that Our Hero is intentionally Steals someone ID's,make that person booted out, and laugh at him.. That's why most people doesn't care what happened next and the ending.. His attitude and action is far too bad to be a likable hero..
@@pahlevidewa226 well that ID thing was before he became spider-man. And when he actually *becomes* spider-man is when he saves that kid on the freeway. He matures and realizes that he shouldn't go out for vengeance. I have no idea what Sony was doing in the beginning of TASM2 though. Like it looked great but why the heck is Spider-Man joking around so much with Rhino guy. That guy ended up injuring and 100% killing some people. Spidey could've easily made like one joke and kicked him out of the truck and stop it.
@@lucapopovici1483I thought I only liked TASM 2 because of nostalgia but now that I’ve rewatched this movie it’s even better. I need some reasons and an explanation to understand how that movie was in any way bad. Most people say it was too much in the story but it really wasn’t. I guess y’all just don’t have enough mental capacity.
My opinion of this movie for the longest time has been that there's a lot of good mixed together with a lot of less good aspects, despite whatever the general perception of it is. Thank you for pouring so much care and passion into this to highlight all of the great aspects of this movie. You've certainly changed my perspective for the better. Bravo!
I never understood the pure hate this movie got, no it’s not perfect (not great either) but there are some very good moments here as well as an intriguing character study. Despite its flaws, it still feels like a classic Spider-Man story throughout, even with its cheesy nature. Sadly, that is a feeling that I felt was missing from ‘Far From Home’
What a great essay. I feel such a relief that someone out there that loves this film as much as I do and that is the beauty of film. We might not all agree on what is or isn't a good movie, but when we connect on a film then that's what cinema is to me. Bravo.
I've been saying this for years. To me- the Amazing series in general will always be the definitive series. TASM 2 is easily my favorite movie with TASM 1 as a close 2nd. I look at them really as one story and it bothers me so much that Garfield didn't get a 3rd outing. We easily had a TASM 3 with a 2nd trilogy that focuses on perhaps Mary Jane, Black Cat (still waiting for that), and a host of new villains. A college Peter, an adult Peter, after all this time still trying to figure it out. Great essay.
This reminds me of all those Star Wars Prequel Defense videos you see these days. Lots of praise over ideas and concepts, but not the actual film and what it actually presents.
Nah man I feel you. Each & every time I watch this movie I keep thinking there’s a chance he could possibly save Gwen in the end but unfortunately the sad reality is that he doesn’t. One thing I truly love about this movie is that it shows that when Spider-Man wins, Peter Parker loses and vice versa. Despite being a superhero one thing that Peter can’t defeat is time itself. Great vid
I mean, the only reason Peter loses in this movie is because he does a pretty piss poor job at dealing with people that he knows are victims of circumstance. If he had offered Harry more options instead of just saying I can’t give you my blood yet, a lot could have been avoided. Like how about this? I’ll give Peter a sample of my blood, and if you lend him enough money he might be able to do some tests on it.
I’ve always loved the TASM movies. The execution of the ideas is so wildly off but its hard not to love what they tried to accomplish and what they succeeded in doing
@@getmorestacks Are you sure about that? Because lately I’ve been noticing quite a few things that feel like oversights a little in the writing. Like how Peter of course feels guilty about breaking his promise to Captain Stacy, but for some reason the movies gloss over the fact that Gwen is also defying the last wishes of her late father and doesn’t really get called out for that for some reason. I know Gwen has the my father doesn’t get to decide how I live mindset, but do you know who does get to decide how to handle this matter regarding your dad? The guy that made the promise to him in the first place.
The Amazing Spider-Man movies visual effects are near perfect and all Spider-Man movies should look as good as they do and I've always loved Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy but I was one of the people that didn't like TAMS 2 when it came out but the more I've watched the more I've grew to love it and it's my top 3 Spider-Man movies
I'm actually kind of surprised people missed how comic-accurate Max/Electro's motivations were in this movie too. They actually adapted that really well. Also kind of amused me how this Gwen acted more like Comic MJ while Raimi's MJ acted more like Comic Gwen. 😂
the problem was they were comic accurate with electro and it wasnt a good adaptation. most people say they should've foccused on one villain and flesh out the story more
@@BananaHammocks this movie really should have focused on one villain it's like they learned nothing from 3 the only reason nwh works is because the villains are pre established
@@dregamingz im glad you were able to get your opinion out but no the story is a complete jumbled mess. gwen and peters relationship wasnt fleshed out it was the exact same thing over and over again for at least an hour of the movie. it was boring and not enjoyable in anyway, they were just trying to carry tasm 1's ending to her death everything in between is BAAAAD. Acting like there cant be "too much in a movie" and that you are just smarter than everyone else so you understand it is an insanely narcissistic take. I understand what the movie was trying to do and everything you are saying from the movie but it is too much. villains characters are as important to a superhero movie as the title hero and both electro and harry were underdeveloped so they arent compelling in any way. if you spend more time with the characters it would be more compelling the way that the more successful spiderman/superhero movies are. and the dumbest part of the entire movie is the stuff with peters dad. peter was the only person that could become spiderman because of his dna, which ruins the main draw to spiderman which is he is a normal kid who is met with great power, its beautiful that anyone with a good heart couldve been spiderman if they were bit. but tasm 2 goes out of its way to ruin that and create an incredibly contrived origin where if peter parker didnt happen to go to oscorp and go into the lab with the spiders no one would ever be spiderman.
@@dregamingz you insulting everyones intelligence without bringing any direct references from the movie and using broad statements like this. "gwen and peters relationship was fleshed out" explain how, just because they spent time together on screen doesnt mean they were getting worthwhile development because neither of them ever did the entire movie. it went from the best spiderman relationship we've seen in tasm 1 to by far the worst in tasm 2
This movie is incredibly underrated. What I love about the TASM films is how relatable they are. Peter in TASM1 is on top of the world when he gets his powers, and by the end of TASM2, he hit rock bottom and lost basically everything with his only way to keep going is to not give up on hope.
Is the movie perfect?..... Absolutely not. But people have hated on it wayyyy too much and it really doesn't deserve all of it. Sure it has corny dialogue and bad performances from the side cast but the story of Peter Parker in this movie is still the best we've seen in a spider-man film, and it's shown through the brilliant motif of time. I'm so glad you actually pointed that out because I've been saying it for years!! Finally good to see some TASM2 love instead of hate after all these years :)
@@kartikadewi3270 sure and I am sticking to what i said. I can find flaws in every movie. A movie needs to have no flaws in order to be perfect. J being in good to great movies. 👍

@@danwarner7816 “M8”, I can cherish a movie however much I want man, it’s my opinion. Lemme guess though, your favorite Spider-Man movie is Spider-Man 2.
Always thought this film was underrated af. Sure some of the writing is corny, and the storyline is jumbled, but the visuals and fight sequences are fantastic. I definitely don’t prefer TASM movies to the rami trilogy, but they are definitely overlooked.

I got to say when I first saw this movie I was in denial of how much I liked it. I felt like the odd one out for enjoying it. Now I can happily say I love this film. While it still isn’t my personal favorite it’s a damn good Spider-Man film. Thank you for making this keep up t be great work.
I think I'm finally just starting to like the stuff I like and not care, because for the longest time I also said this movie wasn't good. I'm glad I finally stopped caring cause this movie is just so damn good and feels just as classic Spidey to me as any of the other movies
As Peter Quill once said, “something good, something bad, a bit of both?” That describes the Amazing Spider-Man movies to me. A lot of redeeming qualities, but a lot of bad ones too.
Imo the bad ones are highly blown out of proportions. This film is a joy to the eyes along with some of the most emotional scenes in superhero film history
@@unnamed3086 that’s a fact. They always say the good saves it from the bad and they stretch that bad as far as they can. While they bat an eye at the flaws other movies lol.
I really don't like this movie, but I loved hearing a different perspective on it. Your vigorous and passionate breakdown almost makes me like it even more. It's always great to hear different opinions about movies we hate or love. You really put your neck out there and went completely against the public opinion, and I can respect that. Great video man.
I think the problem with Amazing Spiderman is that it's a two-part origin story. It wasn't until the end of the movie, Peter truly becomes the hero he wants to be. It was a chosen one story, but in the end, everything comes back to his choice.
@@praveenloganathan7495 Was it really a chosen one story? I mean I get peters blood was the only reason why he could survive the bite and become A superhuman, but Peters dad had no idea that peter was ever going to get bitten. He used his blood to prevent oscorp from ever gaining more power and taking control of his work, and it ended up on Peter, but he made the choice to be Spider-Man. He could have quit but he chose to. I get that you're basically saying that, but Peter was never really destined to be spider-man, it was just a coincidence that while looking for his dads work, he got bit by it.
@@praveenloganathan7495 nah he became Spider-Man when he saved the kid in the car but when Gwen died he kinda fell off into rage like Andrew said in no way home he stopped pulling his punches
i feel like i really relate to andrew’s peter. like the not-a-stereotypical-dork but still nerdy and a bit socially awkward. the not-the-butt-of-the-joke or school-punch-bag but still outcast and isolated. never quite fitting in. of COURSE someone who lost both their parents is going to feel that. like they’re lost and missing part of themselves and can’t really fit in because of it. it really touches on peter’s emotional damage and psychological trauma as someone who lost his parents, clearly didn’t have many friends, and then was thrust into having to take on a massive responsibility
You guys are aware he knows every single problem this movie has right? He's literally just saying it's his favorite because he feels a lot of love for it. There is nothing wrong with that leave the guy alone. Let him love a Spider-Man movie for god's sake.
@@Grendel2403 who says it can’t be perfect? Nothing really is perfect that’s just impossible and this movie has many problems but what he is getting at is the idea behind the messy production and studio executives is a real Spider-Man story that we haven’t seen before a more human story about a kid struggling. The raimi trilogy is great but it’s a classic Spider-Man tale it doesn’t do anything new it just brings Spider-Man to the big screen. This Spider-Man with a better production could of been the most realistic Spider-Man we have seen.
This has always been my favorite of the Spider-Man movies, including the new MCU ones. Garfield is by far my favorite Spidey (at the very least because he's the only one not going to high school), and this movie just hits all the right spots for me. And the soundtrack, oh man, the soundtrack. Hans Zimmer's best work. This movie is a sonic masterpiece - even on a crappy home TV it sounds like a top-range 5.1 setup. Wow.

Fantastic analysis review . The amazing Spider-Man 2 is a movie that I have grow to appreciate over the years and it’s my third favorite Spider-Man movie of the franchise . And it’s honestly break my heart that we never got to see a third movie of Marc Webb amazing Spider-Man movies which I feel would have made for a perfect Spider-Man trilogy .
I was 17 when this movie was released and saw it in theaters and I had never cried so much during an action/super hero film. I was in shambles walking out of the theater and couldn’t wait for the next one! You really had to be *there* to appreciate this cultural moment.
I personally hate the whole idea that Peter Parker was meant to be Spider-Man and that only his dna was compatible with the spider. The whole appeal of Spider-Man is that it could of been anyone that was bitten but it was Peter and because of the lessons taught to him by his uncle, he uses his power for the benefit of others. He was a nobody who used his powers not for self gain (well he did at the start) but to help people. It also completely ruins the whole “anyone can wear the mask” idea as well only Peter can be Spider-Man.
I 100% agree, this film in particular I feel is extremely underrated and it really does capture the essence of the Spider-Man character like few others films have. I have never understood the hatred for this film, of course it isn't perfect but when compared to a handful of MCU films they have just as many flaws if not more. I really appreciate you making this video and pointing out how truly special it is.
I've always loved this movie ever since I saw it when it came out in 2014. It doesn't deserve all the hate. I loved Andrews spideman (my fave spidey) and all the other casting. Can't wait to see him in no way home, hopefully. Thanks so much!!!
Idk if it'sperfect, but I did always think this was better than the rap it got. Some parts weren't good, others were plain terrible, but there were just some really really good elements mixed in. So critically, I don't know if I can agree, but it did resonate with me emotionally
I always loved this movie. The visuals of the movie are cinematic yet comic-like. And thank you for mentioning how good the soundtrack was. The scene with Peter and Aunt May is oscar caliber acting and still makes me cry. I hated that Andrew Garfield was not carried over to the MCU. My only problem with the movie was the Richard Parker flashbacks. It slows the pacing and adds unnecessary plot in a story that already had enough conflict.
You’re not insane, this is 100% the correct take. It’s thematically rich, very emotional and for me, the wildly varied tone from seriousness to silliness works absolutely in its favour. Plus, Jamie Foxx is doing a sort of Rubert Pupkin in ‘The King of Comedy’ and I dig it. Gwen’s death is one of the best scenes in ANY Marvel Movie let alone just Spider-Man flicks. Thanks for going to bat for this underrated and unfairly maligned flick.
I'm so happy that someone is making my thoughts into words about this movie. I mean this came out as I was just a kid and then, I did not understand why they focused on peters parents as they aren't so important in spiderman story. But now that I'm older, I'm amazed how well this movie captures being a teenager and trying to be an "adult".
just came back to this video after coming home from the rerelease, that was so fun to watch in the theater holy moly. It was enjoyable throughout the entire runtime
Fans secretly love it and they hated when Kevin Feige pulled the plug on it. That was a mistake because these films are secretly excellent. He's slowly turning around as Garfield was in no way home, which really ignited the fan community.
This video really made me smile, I've always had a blast with this one, loved the cinematography and soundtrack, it's really does feel vibrant and alive as Hitop films pointed out. Despite the corporate meddling I wish we had stuck with Andrew Garfield's version. Truly underrated.
Both TAS films are underrated. I think it has flaws but there no where near as bad as people say. To me Andrew Garfield is by far the best Spiderman. He captures everything that Spider-Man is. I just love how quipy he is in the suit. He's always being sarcastic and funny with villains. I feel like this Spiderman has a connection to the public too. Like how he says hello to the citizens and the part where he walks that kid home is just such a bloody fantastic scene. That whole scene just screams "Spiderman". Also it's honestly amazing how expressive Andrew Garfield Spiderman is whilst he's wearing his mask. You don't get that at all with Tom and Tobey. You can literally tell exactly what expression Andrews face is pulling when you literally can't even see his face! That just shows how good an actor Andrew is. Speaking of actors both films by far have the best actors. Andrew and emma are phenomenal. There chemistry is incredible. You believe in there relationship so much. The actor playing Harry is a very underrated actor and so is aunt May actress. Because the actors are sooo good all the interactions and conversations between the main characters come across so believable and real. Way more believable and real than any other Spiderman movie. Andrew is the best Spiderman. Emma is the best Spiderman love interest and TAS aunt may is by far the best version of aunt may too. The score for these two films is spectacular. It might be the most heroic superhero theme ever. It draws out such huge emotions from the audience
I loved almost every scene that had Spidey/Peter in this series. This Peter feels more like an actual person who would be bullied and have issues not because the world is just unfair, but his own flaws playing a big part in his suffering. On the flip side, his flaws turn to highlight his virtues when he do heroic things. Peter is a hero, not because of how little flaws he has, but how much good he tries to do despite having those flaws.
Dont hate the movie. I love the acting, i love the sound track, i love the cgi, i love the emotion. I didnt like the script, i think alot of it had to deal with some of it being about peter being destined to be spiderman. Electro being an emotionally unhinged man child practically in love with spiderman, not that us as fans arent like that but a villain needs to have a bit more development. If max is going to be incredibly intelligent but also has mental flaws show up both eqaully. Show us his social awkwardness. Not him wanting to freak out on Alistair scythe
The best spider man imo, I'm so happy to see so many others agree that this series was amazing (pun intended) and that it trully worthy of being someone's favourite spidey series, as it is mine
I have a confession to make. Here it is: I didn't like him at first. I didn't like Andrew Garfield's version of Spider-Man. Starting from the very first promo picture of him. Back in 2012, I wasn't happy about literally everything: the plot, the music, the cast, the suit, the tone of the film, even the way he was bitten by the spider. I was looking for reasons to dislike The Amazing Spider-Man. Which I had been doing up till 2017. Apparently, somehow I hated him because he replaced Tobey. Tobey Maguire, the one who was lucky enough to be the first. And people tend to remember the first ones. Barely had I understood anything when I watched both films of Watts' dilogy. Things started changing after Spidey had joined the MCU, which I was happy about. Which eventually led to the thing we could only dream of. The third interpretation of my favourite fictional character made me compare those three versions. Andrew just got unlucky to be the second, I guess. The older we get, the better understanding we get. Unconsciously, there started to appear more and more things in Andrew's Spidey that I like now. The suit, the music, the spider logo on his back and chest. Frankly speaking, I'm still finding things to love these films for. I am sorry for how stupid and short-sighted I'd been. If I was to meet Andrew someday, I would tell him about that. In all honesty, I'm more than happy to see that Andrew is getting the credits that he fully deserves. Yeah, sometimes, it takes 10 years. Nevertheless, I can't express the amount of joy I had when I saw Andrew in No Way Home. Moreover, people's reactions worldwide confirm that they were waiting for him. They related to him. They loved him. So, I can finally say that I have found inner peace, loving, seeing and praising the celebration of the 20-year-long journey. The words that have been resonating with me since the age of 5. That with great power, there must also come great responsibility. The fucking three Spider-Men. Tobey. Andrew. Tom. Never before have I been so hyped up and excited. And I wish you to experience the same. After watching this video, how can we trust those professional cinema critique?
i find that the spiderman in Amazing Spiderman 2 feels the most comic accurate out of all the cinematic spidermen. the way his costume looks (love the big Ultimate Spiderman eyes), how he moves, his cocky quips and the way he interacts with both the civilians and villains... simply amazing.
Honestly!! My last viewing before now I almost fell asleep watching the movie and thought it was boring asf. Now that I rewatched it, I am genuinely surprised how much I actually enjoyed this film
I know all the words of both the amazing spider-man movies. I've watched them more than any other movie. I relate to this peter way more than any other. These movies are so important to me and theyll always be my favorite.
And Tobey's sound like generic comic book live action movie theme since basically a lot of them(the iconic ones) are made by the same dude. Holland's also basically sounds like a generic MCU theme since it also needs to blend in with that universe. You just gonna choose which generic you want in your life I guess
Watching tasm and tasm2 when i was 8 and it was one of the best spiderman movie i have ever seen even to this day. i grow up watching all 3 of tobey spiderman but i still love this more.
I think the Webb and Raimi films are comparable storywise, but where TASM films really shine is in its casting! Andrew, Emma and Sally are all gifted actors and made me care in ways Tobey, Kirsten, Tom and Zendeya just don't. Tom Holland is a great actor, (I thought he deserved an Oscar nomination for The Impossible) but he's not good at picking scripts and his solo Spider Man films are as basic as they come. Hopefully that changes with the new Fred Astaire movie he's been cast in. I also prefer the villains in this film over all others. Jamie could have easily gone the Jim Carrey route with Electro but he managed to ground the character in surprising ways and Dane was appropriately over the top as Goblin but his Harry made me believe in the friendship between he and Peter in just one film what others couldn't do in multiple movies. Do I think TASM2 is the best Spider Man film? Yes, but imo, that wasn't a tough bar to clear. Would I love to see TASM3? He'll yes! Andrew deserves to finish out his trilogy.
I loved TASM 2 from day one too. It’s my personal least favorite Spider-Man movie but there are definitely strong points. I tend to agree that this has the best Spider-Man suit and that Gwen is the best love interest so far. The cinematography is on point too. I especially love the shot where the electricity reflects off of Spider-Man’s lenses.
I loved Andrew Garfield, the action in the movie, the webslinging (Hands down the best live action IMO) and just spiderman as a whole. He's not a good peter parker by any means and the story could have been a lot better. But for what it is. It's pretty was pretty amazing none the less. (idk maybe i just have a soft spot for this version of spiderman because i grew up with it)
Most of this film works, including the key dynamics, the action, visuals and music! It's really just the excess of subplots that makes this story lose focus. On top of the cut Mary Jane Watson plot with Shailene Woodley, we had Peter and Gwen the emotional core, Rhino who gets cut off at the end, Electro which is one of his dark mirrors, his second mirror in Harry, Harry and Felicia, Aunt May, Peter's parents, the Oscorp head, and Ravencroft developing the Sinister Six. Cut off Peter's parents and other excess and we get a better story overall!
This is a really strong defense but the most catastrophic element of the film that you failed to highlight is the conspiracy element featuring his parents. Because of his dad's research and the idea of him being the "key" to the spider working, completely undermines the the elevator pitch of Spiderman's character. This is not just a "Chosen One" idea, its an idea that makes Peter Parker a natural born main character in the world he was born into. He was never going to have a normal life, nor is his life leading up to him becoming Spiderman normal. I would disagree on the points you make on the chemistry between the main leads, but that is entirely preference for either of us. What this does to how I enjoy the movie, since I do not find their dialogue compelling much at all with few exceptions, creates an insurmountable amount of unappealing dialogue over the course of the movie.
Though the "anyone can be spider man" can not always work since, its like a self insert thing telling you that "Peter", is and shoild always the person everyone relates to or upstands the ideal one should be if put in that situation. Which is one of the reasons Raimi's Peter was made and made as a beacon of goodness and filter's out most pf the negative thongs about Comicbook Peter. Its also another reason why people hate Spiderman 3. Since Raimi's Peter is a good self insert character, people have a harder time getting behind with him whrn he goes bad or off side. Which is sad since that movie's Theme is mostly about Peter having a conflict with himself and him going black symbiote Spidey is an allegory to it and the villains on those movie's mostly became villains due to Peter (yeah the Tony Stark thing). Whether be it for the story's good or not I think they made Web's Peter the only one who can be Spiderman in that story since its basically decided that this is this "Peter's story"
Just like this movie hit u at a time where u were just in this world trying to find yourself. This video hit me in the time of my life where I'm tryna find mine. Thx dude
Spider-Man 2 did everything (with the exception of killing Gwen Stacy) that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did, only better. It's a better film because you get the emotional beats of Peter struggling with who he is and his relationships, only with a script that's tight, precise, and isn't all over the place. This film is nowhere near as good as Spider-Man 2 IMO.
I had the same mindset as you from the first time I've seen this movie when I was 17. So happy the hear someone express it as well as you did! Thank you.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was always one of my favorite movies of all time, i always thought everyone felt the same about the movie until just recently I decided to look up the ratings on rotten tomatos.
I really liked this movie. I wouldn't say that it's perfect, nor that it's better than the Raimi trilogy, but it's certainly better than a lot give it credit for! I especially love the whole backstory with Peter's father, something we didn't see explored in any of the other Spidey films.
At first I thought you were kidding. Then, the video kept going and I knew you were sincere. It's a very interesting take. I had always wanted to see the Gwen Stacy storyline play out in the films and this movie wasted it. I still hate this movie because of what it could have been. While watching this I had flashbacks to the equally awful Batman and Robin movie. And that one dealt with grief in a better way. With multiple villains. But I guess TASM didn't have the Bat-Credit Card. This just had eels.
The only thing I dislike about it is that Peter was meant to be Spider-man, it kinda removes the everyman aspect. And the fact that they redid the parent subplot. But the movie ain’t as bad as people make it out to be.
I feel like it kind of makes the responsibility aspect stronger though. Like sure maybe Peter was destined to get the powers but he CHOSE to use it for good
The vibes of TASM2 are impeccable! The way it makes being Spider-Man seem APPEALING. Tobey and Tom don't really capture the freedom that Andrew's does. I have always adored this movie.
Tobey movie’s were always about peter Parker’s adult life, and took a step back from being Spider-Man focused, which is why adults relate more to raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy
FINALLY!!!!! I GREW UP WITH BOTH TASM MOVIES AND THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MY FAVORITE! And I thought I was completely alone! Thank you bro for making a full video talking about how this movie is great!
I've always loved this movie. The chemistry between Gwen and Peter was phenomenal. The new take on Electro's 2-dimensional personality in the comics was great. Hans Zimmer's score was out of this world. Even with all the subplots I still get teary every time I watch it. I think I love it more now that other people are too.
Anyone else see this pop up in their sub feed and say, "Yikes."? Regardless, excellent video and some great points raised. The beautiful thing about Spider-Man is that every adaptation has merit and redeeming qualities that resonate with different people. There's no need for animosity within the community, we all love Spider-Man, regardless of how varied the character can be
My God I literally started crying when I saw the title of this video. FINALLY after all these years someone praising a movie that I literally grew up with at the age of 14. I knew I loved these movies, but was ever able to properly defend my stance and articulate what theses movies ment to me, and you basically summed it up in a beautiful 40 minute tell all retrospective on a movie that for so long had been trashed on by the majority. And that always made me feel alone in that regard. But finally someone stepped up and recognized the truth behind this otherwise amazing piece of storytelling. So thank you. Thank you for defending our love for TASM 2, instant subscribe.🙏🏻💯🔥🎥🍿
Thank you. THANK YOU for FINALLY putting into words as to why I love this film and why I loved this very short franchise. Yours and Alex's essays are literally what I've thought of these movies for years. There was just so much I had to say about it that I couldn't put it into words. Hats off to you! 👏👏👏
Omg this is the most amazing video ever! I’m tried to explain to my friends for years how this is 100% the best spiderman movie ever created and everyone just looks at me or makes fun of me for thinking Andrews the best. This video perfectly sums up all my thoughts about this movie. Thank you so much for this gem
@@chase_heller4381 I knew it was a matter of a opinion. For a movie that’s suppose to be about how conflicted Peter is, he usually gets over those feelings over certain things pretty quick. He’s feeling bad about being with Gwen because of the promise he broke and break up? He decides that being friends with her doesn’t pose the same issue Captain Stacy was worried about for some reason. His best friend is dying of a deadly disease? He decides to leave that and everything else behind to travel with Gwen. He quits being Spider Man for five months? In regular movie time it’s about 5 minutes.
@@austinjohnsen4430 no I 100% agree that it has it flaws like everything you mentioned and how god damn stupid Electro looked in it I have just always seen that movie as having a more personal touch to me which makes it my favorite but all the movies are good and theirs arguments as to why all of them could be considered the “best spider man movie ever”
@@chase_heller4381 I’m glad you mentioned Electro. I think if you removed him or lessened his screen time we would have a better film. Imagine how wild this movie would be if it was just about the Peter Harry and Gwen conflict. Keep everything around that mostly the same, except Gwen dies sooner and the rest of the movie is about Peter dealing with the repercussions of that and the drastic shift in his relationship with Harry who’s organizing the sinister six to get revenge.
Very well put! Amazing Spider-Man 2 is my favorite Spider-Man film too. It has been since I first saw it in the theaters and it bumped ASM1 out of first place. The Marc Webb Spider-Man films are my favorite Spider-Man series. Andrew Garfield is the best Peter Parker. Out of all the Spider-Man movies, ASM2 stuck with me the most afterwards. That ending fight was gut wrenching. I love the emotional depth of the Webb films. I don’t get the hate either. I feel so validated!
Sony did not really care about the characters like the rhino is not supposed to have machine guns and missiles and electro was never supposed to be blue.
Of all the Spider-Man live action films, this was the closest to the feel of the 90’s animated series IMO. A big world solely about Spidey lore, with a lot of world building supporting characters.
Sony killed their own franchise by setting up 10 different films in one film. It literally felt like a poor commercial for franchise films that didn't exist yet.
I will say, I'm not a fan of TASM 2 in comparison to most other live action Spider-Man films, but I absolutely agree that the amount of hatred it gets is wayyyyy more than deserved
You hit on one of my favorite parts of this series: gwen stacy. I love that she has agency, has her own "super" characteristics including her mind, her heart and her courage, and she saves the day and makes the true hero's sacrifice in the end. In both the other spiderman renditions, MJ kind of just ends up being a side piece, even though I know the MCU tried to do more. Both MJ's have to live on the whims of spider man's will-he-won't-he indecisiveness in their relationship and I just love that Emma's Gwen Stacy takes things into her own hands and is a powerful character in and of herself. She has truly stuck with me after years, even after I forgot most of the rest of the movie. And of course, I think her chemistry with andrew is the best of all the spider man/love interests. In the age of gender equality, it's funny/sad that this movie that was made 10 years ago is the adaptation that TRULY got it right. Truly all the props to Web, Garfield and Stone for a great adaptation.
@@ashvergent I still think Gwen could be a bit more sympathetic towards Peter’s plight. A lot of what she says to Peter in that breakup scene basically amounts to just forget about that promise you made to a man who died saving you and the entire city, it’s really not that hard. Gwen’s right when she says this isn’t her father’s choice to make. But do you know who’s choice it is to make? The guy that literally made a promise to him on his deathbed, bitch.
@@solarking952 Yeah I understand where you're coming from. She's very stubborn and egoistic, when Peter is faced with his dilemma of keeping that promise to her father. You see how Gwen grows tired of Peter going back and forth with her, so she makes the choice for him and herself. She still contributed by saving loads of people. Like the airplanes, hospital, helping Peter with the Electro, etc. Time doesn't stop for no one and there was risks. Also her father was very controlling in a way but she still loved him. I mean Peter and Gwen were in love. Makes you do dumb things. It added more gas to the fire when her father didn't want them together. You can tell Peter has abandonment issues so he really wanted to grasp her. Truth be told you can't control anyones actions or choices, it's up to them. During the whole movie, Peter thinks he can have everything in his control and stuff is his fault if it doesn't go as he wants. At the end of the day Peter and Gwen made their choices and had to deal with the consequences. Sometimes doing the right thing often leads to hard decision, Even if it means losing what you love the most. It's sad he blames himself for her death but she ultimately decided to get involved to help. In a way they're both selfless because there's more at stake than their relationship and life. Peter is faced with an identity crisis on what he wants or needs. Later, Peter has to finally choose to be Spiderman, not for anyone else. Change is a choice. There's really no win or lose between them. Shit happens.
@@ashvergent I mean things probably could have gone differently if Peter handled things with Harry a little differently. Does the movie really expect us to care about their relationship on the same level as Peter and Gwen’s when Peter was just gonna leave his best friend to face a horrible death alone to go to England?
@@solarking952 For sure, Peter handled that terrible. He should have been honest and be there for him. What transpired could have been avoided. Even if Peter gave his blood to Harry, he would've died or had some type of bad reaction to it. Likewise him taking the spider venom, and still transfigured. It's sad how he lets his fear consume him and becomes a victim to his fathers legacy or curse-- instead of making his own choices. More of self preservation. Then again, he was going to die anyways regardless of Peter's blood, so I guess Peter could've at least tried.. Idk the whole thing was fucked up.
honestly never understood the hate this film got, definitely a lot of issues such as electro, green goblin and rhino. This imo was the best spiderman live-action to date
I think TASM movies are underrated however I think that TASM 1 is better than 2 for me it’s just not as convoluted and it’s more simple but makes it more relatable and not as confusing or fast paced
i’m one minute in and i’m already nodding aggressively - i love the andrew garfield films SO MUCH, honestly more than the tom holland ones. i love that it gives an explanation about peter’s parents and that the genetically mutated spiders have a rationale that ties directly back to peter’s parents, rather than just being some random spiders peter happens to get bitten by
