The bookstore (which I forgot to include the name of 😩) is E Shaver Booksellers on Bull Street in Savannah, and absolutely is with a visit if you find yourself in the neighborhood, even if it’s just to read the employee recs, and let the cats!!
I was about to comment that you found E Shaver ❤ my aunt worked there for about 20 years, so I always got wonderful books for my birthday and Christmas. The original owners have died, but the place has maintained its charm (and now has resident cats!). My favorite used bookstore, the Book Lady, is also in Savannah.
One of my favorite memories from theatre is when a set piece was going to fall over and an actor noticed and casually walked over mid-dialog like it was part of his blocking and just leaned against it. It looked natural and part of the scene. The scene ended minutes later but it was perfect and saved me, the stage hand, from running out of the wings to stop it from falling. I loved him in that moment. I later thanked him for the scene. I'm glad to know even professionals have minor issues. I'm glad no one was hurt.
Two toned sweater could be fun But the irony that the one project that was supposed to be easy and drama free has something wrong with it is also quite something :D
Having done theatre for many years, you will be surprised how many performers don't improvise when things don't quite happen the way it's supposed to. While a slight inconvenience for you, you worked around it and gave a highlight of the tour for people. xxxx Chookas, Happy Performing x

The joys of live theater! :) Like the time the supporting actor broke his wrist two days before opening (it was The Play That Goes Wrong, so it somehow... worked).
Stage shenanigans do happen. One time my dad and I were in a pantomime together. He played the King and I was his princess. He forgot his line, and it wasn't something we could improv around. After what felt like 1 minute, but was probably just a couple of seconds, he heard the script prompt at the side stage. His line was... "I have an idea!" 😂. The whole theatre was howling with laughter
Gotta love live shows! I just finished helping with our Community Theaters production of "Charlie Brown Christmas" and during one of the set changes I was still putting out one of the trees and the lights came on. I was stuck squatting behind the tree for the whole scene.
Thanks for the story about your snag with the door prop! It's definitely the sign of a true professional that you were able to find the humor in the situation rather than getting stressed out about it, and that you more or less made it work regardless. As for what I'm working on, I've been on a sweater knitting kick lately, using some beginner-friendly free patterns from tincanknits over on Ravelry. Made a couple of pullovers, and am now working on the last sleeve of a cardigan. I don't do as much baking as I used to, but I might make pumpkin bread again soon; I made some for a Thanksgiving get-together last month, and remembered how much I enjoyed it. It's a variant of my banana bread recipe, and for the pumpkin I do a maple glaze with it.
This has been such a fun vlog! I really enjoy seeing independent bookstores and historical districts! Also it's always fun to hear some theater stories!
Since you asked, I will tell you what I'm working on. My friend asked me to make a jar quilt for her. That is a quilt where the squares look like canning jars, and you can fill them with anything you like. She actually wanted it to look like canned food, so that's the type of fabric I got. Actually today is my last day of completing the squares, and after that I'll start putting them together. It's my first time working with a quilt that involves chain piecing. I found it to be very difficult. It just takes so much concentration to do the same thing over and over. However, the ones I did last look a lot better than the ones I did at the beginning, so I'm calling it good lol. My friend will really like the quilt and that's all that matters.
I’ve just finished baking round one! I make cookies and mail them to out of state family and give them to friends ,employees and service providers. Then I do another round to gift to family on Christmas Day. Chocolate chip, peppermint snaps, oatmeal,and double chocolate brownie cookies are what’s been made so far.
You guys climbing trees cracked me up. And that bookstore was the bomb! My vote is for front and back colors for the sweater. This whole vlog series is very entertaining. Can't wait for the next one!

I used to have a shirt that was one color in the front and another in the back, and I loved it. It was like having 2 shirts in one since it was reversible. I think that knitted top would be cool with the front and back different colors.
Surprise knitting plans are the best type of knitting plans! I think they'll both look great whether you decide to add another color or keep it all the same. So glad to hear you enjoyed Savannah! I think a reversible jumper would be great and those colors are beautiful together, so go for it. Two for the effort of one.. it’s a bargain of a project!
Glad there was not a huge mishap. I always get a loving giggle when I'm in the audience of a performance and notice something like that. I have only done one show and it was in middle school, but I remember the chaos of trying to get everything right. It's one of the benefits of live theater to see people being human and making errors that lends magic to it that you just can't get from recordings.
Loved the story about the door. Keep telling them. About Hooked, I'm a crocheter so I focused on that, I can see you liking Peter Pan. I especially think of the part in the cartoon where they sing, "I can fly."

Loved the tour of Savannah. If you haven't been to Arizona yet, if your work ever takes you there be sure to check out Navajo Rug weaving. I was born there and went back for a time and took a Navajo rug weaving class. Not for the faint of heart, very challenging. I bought every DVD and book out there to help me learn how. Very very challenging and bet you would love it.
"Historic Steps: Use at own risk" is a sign I feel we should have seen on the Casse-Cou steps in Vieux Quebec on my 8th grade trip in the mid 80s 😄 (Though I seem to recall crossing the street was more dangerous than the staircase...)
I wish I had realized sooner you were going to be so close by in Savannah! I was just telling my husband the show looked like so much fun and I bet our kid would love it! Glad you found that gem of a bookstore! There are some really magical places in Savannah and up and down the Georgia coast. If you can ever stay longer, there are some amazing tours including Black Savannah History Tours that are unforgettable. It’s finally cool enough weather here that I’ve started back on my crochet granny shrug project instead of much cooler hand sewing projects. Hope your sweater situation gets happily resolved soon! You have absolutely inspired me to make a crazy patchwork apron. The skirt section will go all the way round the back. This is to hind a costume underneath, to make an easy quick change. I don’t need it till July, so, I can go to town on embellishments. Everything is from my fabric and notion stash. It is already looking gorgeous. When I have finished it, may I send you a photo of it?

Glad to hear the shows are going relatively smoothly. The original sweater pattern was two toned top and bottom. Front and back would also work for me. I always like to make a coconut cake and a vanilla wafer cake for the holidays. Merry Christmas.

Great story and you did the right thing to keep the story line going. Ref 2nd sweater, you could do the bottom half in the light beige and the top half in the blue (reverse of original sweater) and go w different colors for the original sweater. Then you wouldn't need to block the sample and do all kinds of math. Just a thought
True, I totally could... Didn't even think of that idea! Something about the two colors on two sides really appeals to me though! Like someone else commented, I could be a completely different person coming and going 🤣🤣
When knitting fitted garments, the only thing that matters is gauge. Start with suggested weight of yarn and size of needle, then swatch. Adjust needle size as required and swatch again. The shaping in areas like arm hole, neckline etc have been engineered with the given gauge. Can't get around it. knitting is about process, and less about product. It's all good. Love your energy!!!
I am aware that gauge is important and that swatches are generally a good idea. However as I went over in Episode 1, the whole reason I picked this knit was that the swatch was NOT needed for this pattern!

Excellent - Glad you got to get a taste of Savannah. I lived in Savannah for 6 years, moved back to Tampa area but my daughter still lives there, she loves it. I really enjoyed all the historic buildings and quirky oddness about the town. The book, Midnight in the Garden of Evil was based on events that happened there, and filmed there. The pub you show in the beginning of the video - Six Pence Pub - was used in the film with Julie Roberts - Something to talk about. One of the best walking Haunted Pub Crawls starts at Six Pence also and is well worth taking. The doors - I know it must of been frustrating to not be able to full fill your part, but I bet most of the audience didn't notice.
I love your videos. And when you tell us about your tours, and your work outside of your sewing and crafting, I really enjoy a look into a different world than I will ever experience. You have built a interesting life for yourself that looks so much fun and very exhausting.. oh, and terrifying.
oh gosh. as a sometime stage hand and assistant stage manager, the stress of those moments in a show, especially at the top of a show brought back a flood of memories. glad it was only a locked door and not something catastrophic :) as for holiday recipes, i've made the first batch of the season of Julekage! Norwegian Christmas bread! and i decided to make it with cardamom i ground myself and it was so worth it! i'm looking forward to making more to give to freinds this weekend. absolutely loved the video, and wishing you safe travels and good audiences at every venue!

If you have the ability to make rolled oats in your hotel, then you can make no bake chocolate oatmeal cookies. Those were a staple of my childhood. Just cook the oats in a sauce pan and then add coco powder and peanut butter. Spoon out and let set. They will set faster in the fridge but are still good warm and gooey but they just will not hold a shape till cooled.
Math!!! Ugh! ADHD and math are like a pair of mix-matched socks for me. Add in a craft that is supposed to relax me and I have a disaster on my hands. I have come to accept my limitations. How you accomplish all you do is simply amazing. Please let us know the next time you are in the states. Having knit and done theater for decades I can really emphasize with those problems that you have been having. It happens. I directed a play once where everything was supposed to go wrong and boy did we have fun with that. I just did a last minute sewing project for a play where half the cast and crew ended up sick. I made a moose head for a school mascot to wear. Totally winging it. Turned out great and I got it back after so I think I’m going to mount it on a plaque on my wall. Thanks for your videos. They bring me much joy to watch. I’m now recovering from my third bout of Covid and I’m catching up on my viewing. ❤❤❤ from another Canadian
I love crafting while watching your videos! Right now I’m sewing Frog Choir frogs for our kids’ theater group. They’re doing a Harry Potter dinner theater show this weekend. Like you, I’ve had to switch up what I was doing because the fabric I picked was visually perfect, but wrong for the project. Who knew it would be impossible to hand sew? 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ O now I’m starting the frogs over (I had the machine parts done,) with new fabric and my son’s casting as a very short professor was just added on. So now I’ve got 2 frog puppets and a professor costume to make for their show on Saturday- lots of sewing coming my way! :)
I love bookstores they are one of my favorite places to visit in any new place I go. That one looked amazing! My kids are doing a solctice Christmas this year and are really focusing on homemade gifts, so I have been working almost every night on sewing up presents for them. I actually am making some vests for my theater kid because of your video of making your vest. I realized how simple a vest is, I really hadn't thought about it before, but they love vests, so really a perfect project for a gift.
Bookstores are such wonderful places... just found a lovely one in Dayton, OH too!! And in... oh boy... Davenport? The cities blend together, but the second one has kitties too!!

Thank you for VLOG4 - I miss performing, but I don't miss the "oopsies" that can happen!! LOL As to what I'm working on ... firstly, I am currently participating in a vintage crochet challenge (courtesy of @JustVintageCrochet). And also Xmas baking (fruit mince pies, White Christmas, Xmas Coconut Ice, and Hedgehog Xmas Trees ... oh, and chocolate truffles, from the Xmas Trees offcuts [if my husband doesn't eat them all first]!) Enjoy the rest of the tour, travel, crafting, etc. - it's lovely to see someone who enjoys pretty much everything they do!!
Loved the tour of Savahana. Pecan pies and peanut butter candy are a special treat for us at Christmas time. I brought a couple recipes back from the UK last year that were a good addition to, shortbread and ginger cake. The funny thing is, everyone liked them but it was the traditional things I make that they wanted.
Everyone loves the old classics; it's part of the nostalgia of the season! Pecan pies are an absolute favorite for me, although they're more of a general fall thing than a specifically-Christmas thing... and now I want pie 🤣🥧

I guess learning to knit anything beyond a scarf is out the window for me! My math skills end at about a fourth grade level. Very embarrassing, but true. If you are willing to buy more yarn for the blue sweater you could have it shipped to a theater or hotel down the road. I love that new sweater so far !! I’m not baking today, but I am making my annual batch of Jalapeño Jelly. I usually make about 12-18 jars. I give it as hostess gifts or if I’m asked to bring an appetizer or snack. I think you should do it like the coloration on the first pattern you were working on. Do the top half one color and the bottom half the other. I think that would look better than front and back different colors.

What a beautiful city! And so you're knitting 2 sweaters, more or less - the knitting process is there for you and the project will get figured out later. Gingerdoodle cookies and rum balls - sometimes just the cookie baking smell is part of the holiday however you can get it. Here's to improvising!!
I like to make cookies for the winter holidays. I was in very bad health last year and couldn't do it, but I'm feeling much better this year and I'll probably make some thumbprint cookies. They're the kind of old-fashioned, simple cookies that I really like, and they're received very well by pretty much everyone.
That bookstore looked amazing. My wallet would be screaming if I walked into it. I love books (worked in libraries for over 20 years). And there are cats! I feel your pain about the yarn. Been there, done that--and whimpered. You are a braver soul than I. If a stage mishap had to happen, that was the kind you want. No one hurt, show not derailed, and makes for a funny/cute story. Holiday baking coming up: mincemeat cookies, soft gingerbread, popovers, maybe even a Marlborough pie.

@@ShannonMakes There's just something about bookstores and cats that just feels right. Marlborough Pie is also sometimes called Marlborough Pudding. The recipe I have is from the Old Sturbridge Village cookbook. We had it once at OSV and it was delicious.

The company I currently work for originates and is based out of Savannah Georgia. Your explorations are lovely to watch, when I go places I’m so task oriented if I don’t have a list prepared I tend to just drive home😅. As for the yarn, I like contrast, 2 or 3 colors even when the pattern only calls for 1. But I say do whatever makes you happy. Though it does strike me as funny that crafts will always cause shenanigans no matter what one tries lol. The wall art is so fun! It’s like a timeline wall. Oh the irony of simple projects! I am almost finished on a Christmas present, a summer dress for a toddler. I chose the pattern especially because of it's easiness, so I could quickly make a present and enjoy the process. Then, when cutting the fabric, I started thinking "well wouldn't it be better to line this dress, so the blind zipper wouldn't be directly touching the skin of this child" and from then on I just winged it without any instructions, having to unpick nearly every step, because I forgot how to line dresses. This sort of stuff just somehow happens every year!
It was meant for sewing things, but every time we move there’s this hot mess of mist lost things, and I wanted to get that sorted. So the keys and the propane regulator and all the batteries and things are in the tool kit.

Redecorated my craft room recently, cause I found an old Ikea corner desk, (BORGSJO that our neighbour gave away) that has a bunch of shelfs, so with help from my mom, we placed the previous craft table in the kitchen for a smaller one and now I have two separate desks which I can switch between if I'm crafting or watching
Thanks for the yarn explanation and visit to Savanah which looks rather interesting. I lived in the US for 3 1/2 years and came to loathe the identikit towns I saw . Unless you put something up tomorrow I will catch the rest of vlogmas after I return from a month virtually visiting Scotland which is my novelty for this Midwinter. Virtual holidays involve only reading books, watching videos set in, eating foods from, dressing suitably for , indulging in activities suited to the place you are visiting. So no feast at Midwinter but on New Years Eve. Whisky not brandy ,shortbread, Arbroath smokies etc. Knitting some fairisle socks from homespun home dyed wool. Outings to Art galleries while virtually in Edinborough and climbing the mountains when virtually in the Highlands. All without leaving Wales thus avoiding all the stress of traveling at the holliday season. I have a collection of postcards to send friends which a client sent me from Scotland. Last year I travelled virtually to Paris for just a week the year before that Athens. Environmentaly friendly and in these times so easy .
I'm so glad that despite all of the mishaps in knitting or in the shows you are still enjoying yourself and having fun. Finding small local bookstores, used or new, is always my favorite part of traveling too! Hopefully, you can find many more treasures like it elsewhere!
Savannah is beautiful. My most favorite place in the world. Thankfully, I'm not far away and my best friend lives between Savannah and Tybee. I visit often. Enjoy your travels.
I've been working on model socks! I got a book of sock patterns from the library and i'm making baby and child sizes in finer yarn with a smaller gauge than recomended, just to get a feel for sock knitting while only needing to use scraps of my handspun that aren't enough for anything else. I'm on my third one right now, and it's designed to look like a boot. I learned how to knit a garter toe for it ^-^
Former stage manager here (Covid prompted a career change). As soon as you mentioned the latch I thought, "pre show duties/ checklist!" Google LCBO's dark chocolate and peppermint cookies, they have a brownie like texture too. Love the bookstore! I would happily spend hours there. And leave with a few books.

Wonderful Video! I really enjoyed all the behind the scenes parts, and I'm also a big fan of the backstage wall art! "Show Time Story Time" is great! lol! I got a little knot in my stomach when you were talking about the mishap! I've seen many mishaps in live shows, and my brain always jumps into "Let's fix this, STAT!!" lol! I think my favourite was when I was doing sound queues for a play called "The Drawer Boy" and I was *supposed* to play a tractor engine starting up. However I selected the wrong CD track (yes this was a while ago lol) so instead of the tractor, it was a banjo being played! 😨Luckily the actor on stage was quick on his feet, and he yelled "Put that banjo away, and start the tractor!" I felt horrible, but everyone else thought it was hilarious!
I really like the idea of doing the new knitting pattern in two-tone but like the first pattern with the top in one color and the bottom in another. I think that will look more intentional than doing the front and back in different colors.
