When you take your vehicle to the shop sometimes the mechanic will find more items in need of repair than you were expecting. That is exactly what happened to the CAR WIZARD 🧙‍♂️ with the 2005 Mercedes Benz E320.

These Mercedes usually are good with maintenance and not hard to work on as long as you know your way around cars. The engine mounts and transmission mounts are probably the most satisfying when replacing on a Benz because they ride like a dream once replaced. Im 202,000 miles on my CLS 550 AMG and it still looks and rides like new!

One of the greatest engine/transmission combos of all time. There are some flaws like any engine or transmission but usually nothing catastrophic. The M112 and M113 are some of the most reliable gas engines by any manufacturer, and are silky smooth on top of that.

When I had to do valve cover sealant on my M272 (due to previous owner's pcv neglect & blow by eating away at the sealant around the spark plug tubes), I really wished I was doing the job on a M112 instead. It's almost funny how accessible every serviceable component is in these engine bays.

@@RothBeyondTheGrave used to own a 2003 E500 and now own a 2007 E550 with the M273 and holy shit, the M113 is so much more simple and easy to work on than the M273. My m273 is still going strong at 157k miles tho
@RothBeyondTheGrave
@RothBeyondTheGrave 2 года назад
@@diablocls55 yeah the M273 seems really stuffed in there depending on the chassis. Part of why I got a E350 as I had less wrenching experience then & wasn't ready for engine mounts & possible rear main right out of the box. Seems like the fan shroud has to come out for anything upfront? I definitely hope to experience a M113 or M113k sooner than later. Glad you're M273 is goin strong though!

I love how the Car Wizard is not afraid or reluctant to ask his employee on camera. Many business owners/ employers would feel threatened by thier subordinates and feel insecure about differences in the level of knowledge. Mike surely seems to have a long and specific experience with Mercedes Benz cars and Wizard is so comfortable with that, mainly because of how self-confident he is.

On SBC when system, when it deflates it actually does have a master cylinder it just further down the travel of the normal operation of the pedal. And it only operates front brakes, the negative part about it is that it does not have the vacuum assist, so basically what ever strength you’ve got. That’s what you have in emergency.

Bought an 04 E320 for $2k they said the dealer couldn't get it to run without digging deeper for lot o money so they sold it to me. Troubleshot it to a bad fuel pump relay... $25 bucks. Also had a bad squeak on pass front suspension, so had to replace upper and lower and couple other items. Also went ahead and replaced the radiator due to known leak and cross con issues leading to trans failure. Also replaced the fuel pump and sender unit. Parts were cheep from ebay, less than $700 total. Car runs great and ended up selling it to my stepdad for $3,000 and he loves it. Only issue left is the pano sun roof track... these cars are actually not too difficult to work on and still look super sleek given their near 20 years on the road.

Michelin makes a fabulous tire, great combination of longevity, comfort, and capability in both summer and all season configurations. I had a Mercedes of that era, a CL, and had the connector on the transmission leak, but it didn't show around the plug at all, it instead wicked up the wires and showed up at the transmission computer. Fluid in the plug and about a tablespoon of fluid in the computer itself. Fortunately, it was caught before it damaged the computer and was perfectly fine after cleaning everything up and replacing the pilot bushing.

Great car. I have a 2004 320 with same vibration issues. Even with these issues the car rides great. Looking forward to fixing these problems for a better ride. Thanks for the video and straight up quote. Thanks for posting great content.

The transmission mount was interesting, I understand why the breakdown just by looking at it

Had an '89 230E that I had to let go. Too much rust, shot motor mounts and a heap of other problems was just too much for my skint wallet. Got a _very_ cheap Vectra that lasted me a few years until I got out of my financial rut and bought myself a much newer Toyota Aygo. I still miss my W124.

I have an E500, 2005 MY. I do all my own work, save for periodic safety checks. The balljoints on the 4Matic and AIRMatic cars are tough. I also did the valve covers, breather cover, all 16 plugs, upper control arm and lower ball joint, sway bar link and AC rebuild (2nd Mercedes this year..) and your water pump finding stunned me. I inspected mine and zero shaft play, I have no idea how that M112 was even running like that and no coolant leakage out of the weep hole! Unheard of here. I usually do the idler pullies when aux components fail.. in the case of this 0HP non-runner when I bought it, the old compressor was such a mess, both pulley bearing AND compressor failure occurred... belt chewed up. The previous mechanic misdiagnosed a midrange error to a failed air mass meter... and condemned that and also the intake manifold since the customer complained about a rough driveability issue. MAF was dirty, front o2 sensors were bad. Now it's a 302 HP well running machine. Much cheaper fix than the quoted 1500 so please be careful if you don't do your own work! Nice work Car Wizard and Magic Mike, you guys always nail it! Oh.. the SBC topic: Warranty extended 25 years. Have the form signed and save all that coin if the pump is expired.

I knew the motor mounts were bad when you said the car vibrated right at the beginning. I've had it happen on my 01 w210. The right side is fairly easy to do and the left because of the steering you have to remove the exhaust pipe from the manifold to get to it. A lot of people use a lot of weird tools and lots of contortions but removing the pipe makes it fairly easy. Did you actually pry bar the control arm bushings to make sure they are good? Do those flex discs outlast u-joints?

Nice work on the new intro Mrs Wizard also a good eye for the interior reviews. Car Wizard I had the same thoughts as soon as the noise appeared it is so distinctive. What is with wheel bearings and engine mounts on all these cars don't people check them? I remember when my Sister in law was first driving I had to take her car for our MOT Test and I turned it on and selected 1st gear and i got a loud thud as the engine tilted and hit the fire wall and the gear stick dropped about 2 inches, Later that day I asked her about the banging and I said do you just turn the music up to hide any bangs her answer was yes, then I looked at the brakes metal on metal on the 2 front outer pads and about 1mm on the inner pads we had to have a big talk with her and she developed a few brain cells.

I had an 05' e320 CDI a few years back. Pulled like a freight train and got better mpg at 80 then it did at 60! Unfortunately I needed awd and sold it to our helicopter mechanic locally. I think the front ends on these W211 chassis are timeless!

I had a 06 E320CDI. Absolutely loved that car. It rode and drove so nice. I could go nearly 700 miles on a tank of gas. It was totaled by a deer and I had to fight with the insurance company who wanted to short change us and give us a gas engine price.

Wow! Super nice Mercedes! It’s good to see someone who keeps their car in nice shape! This car will last a long time with continued servicing. We had ours for 24 years before my mom got rid of it. Old Mercedes cost as much to repair as new ones! I wish I could have taken the car and fixed it up. Engine ran fine but it needed a new suspension. Only $3k would have fixed that problem. The interior was in pretty good condition but it needed a new paint job and some rust repair. Can you tell, I loved that car! 😂

Common on all W211s, or other Mercedes from those years, valve covers, rear main seal, water pump and pulleys, wheel bearing. Easy to to work on. Great car. Thanks for the video wizard.

I have a CLK320 with the same engine, I haven’t seen the full video, but by the symptoms, engine bushings, valve cover gaskets and maybe timing guides or one of the accessory pulleys is what the weird noise from the front is. These are the most common issues of that engine

Wizard, back in 2016 I was looking for a car found one of these for $2,500 bucks but I like the idea of a 7-speed, and the lighter aluminum engine that the newer model had. But I like the straight six for ease of repairs that the older model had. I didn't buy either. Now I hear that the older one was the best one to get and I wish I had.

I know these vehicles n side and out. Sbc can get down right dangerous when failing. And those valve covers r two piece. Most people just replace the whole covers w new. If you snag em for cheap they make a good family car. Replace belt , idlers and tensioner every 40-60k or you'll be on borrowed time
