A level tarmaced car park at the edge of moorland, adjacent to the busy Castleton to Sheffield road (A625). The car park is very bumpy, it was difficult to find a level area to put down our ramp in the WAV. Pay and display, free to blue badge holders; there are three spaces marked with the disability symbol.
Wheelchair path from car park to Surprise View over Hope Valley. This is a smooth path down from the car park to the road. Once you have crossed the road to enter the moorlands be aware that the path is quite bumpy so you do need a very sturdy powerchair or scooter and if you are going in a manual wheelchair, make sure you have enough energy to propel yourself or you have a strong volunteer to help push.
Moorland walks only.
No toilets - the nearest are next to the Fox House Inn, one mile towards Sheffield on the A625 (includes one suitable for disabled people, RADAR key required).
Ice cream van in summer.
The panoramic views from here over the stunning Hope Valley towards Chatsworth House are breathtaking. Really beautiful. Incredibly windy at anytime of the year so bear that in mind too.
This accessible site was named as one of the best stargazing spots in the country by leading astronomers on the ‘Stargazing Live’ astronomy show so there’s no need to confine your visit just to the daytime!
