20:18 I crossed that intersection a few times when I was visiting Guadalajar when I would walk from centro to Av. Chapultepec I even did it at 2am after the bars closed. By myself...African American guy who knows muy poquito Espanol lol. NO PROBLEMS. I love it there!
Two points that you made that really resonated with me were how European Mexico looks and feels and the significance of the informal economy. When I first came to Mexico I had no idea, visually, what to expect, but then I saw how beautiful the architecture was and I genuinely felt that I had left North America and crossed the ocean. Architecture is one of my loves, so I never get enough of the colonial period buildings and I take lots of photos of them whenever I'm out and about. The cityscapes are nothing like anything I've seen in the states. The stone, brick and stucco facades, the cobble stone streets and the twisting winding streets that often met streets that were no more than climbimg staircases and the hills, the mountains, the forests, jungles, beaches and deserts all added to what for me was a wonderland of manmade and natural beauty. And as to the informal economy I think its fantastic, because it allows anyone who wants to have their own business the opportunity to do so and not be limited to working for some gigantic coporation and be just a cog in a mindless machine, that's something the US lost and I don't think it will ever get back. I've enjoyed my 3.5 years in Mexico and I look forward to many more. Great video José from one immigrant to another!
Im Aztec Comanche Native Indigenous and im very proud of that. We are indigenous to USA. Im a Mexican Native activist. Im very proud of our culture. I live in USA. Im enjoying your channel very much and appreciate you. We are not illegal immigrants 💪🏾🇲🇽✌🏾🤎🙏🏾🦅🪶🌹💋
Unlike some people who cannot return to the U.S. for whatever reason, I’m an IMMIGRANT, retired, who still travels back and forth to the U.S. for family matters, for concerts and festivities, to cruise, etc. i don’t go often or stay long, however. I have not detached myself from America, as a matter of fact, I vote using my overseas ballot. I don’t like the word “gringo” to refer to myself because I associate it as a term for White Americans/Canadians.
Who built the Pyramids in México? 😂 You are right!! Nobody asks that. Love your content. I needed something to calm the nerves tonight, and you were the perfect medicine. ¡¡Gracias!!
Yes. Keep talking. Go on and on ! You are an expert on Mexico. I lived there and will be going back. You are highly advanced. And totally spot on Señor
5 de Mayo is when Mexico defeated the French in Puebla. It’s mostly celebrated in Puebla, mexico and in the USA they celebrate to embrace Mexican culture and main events specially boxing fights happen putting Mexican fighters to fight and brings in tons of money in sales.. good video!
These cathedrals, along with the Mayan ruins and pyramids, are some of the many things that excite me about Mexico. These places I can only imagine are packed with good energy. Most religions and spiritual beliefs convey the same thing but in different wording through various types of symbolism. Even in these cathedrals, you can find ancient knowledge depicted in the architecture.
The first pyramids that I visited in Mexico were actually in Jalisco. Guachimotonies are earthen pyramids. Pre Columbian going as far back as 300 BCE. History is everywhere in Mexico
Have you been to Monterrey? I would love to see you walking around other big (and safe) cities in Mexico discussing the cost of living, security, food, etc., for that particular place.
The language that a people group speak determines the way that people group will think. The Mayan people group think different then Anahuac who were in the Mexico City DF. Even today Mayans from Merida speak different words than Quintana Roo Mexico. There are 1500 different dialectos in Mexico alone not counting another 1500 in Northern Guatemala , many indigena can not communicate with other tribes even today
Jose ... I am curious about the used car business in Mexico Do you have dealer only car auctions like in the US ? How about COPART wreck auctions ? I did the used car thing for 20 years, wonder if I can do it down there too ?
I'm not sure how that business works out here but yes they got dealerships and car auctions and car shows and all kinds of car culture out here. Might not be what you are used to, but if you are looking into that i think you could have success with that kind of business out here. But I would do more research if i were you to find out what it is you need to do legally to operate such a business. Jose Novelo the lawyer i have on the show all the time specializes in things like this, so if this is something you want to do and you can meet whatever requirements he would be more than happy to help you with the process.
The Spanish _definitely_ conducted extermination campaigns of the indigenous people of Mexico, although they were not as bloodthirsty as the British, and their efforts were more concentrated in the territories that are now part of the USA.
About cinco de Mayo , The general ( General Zaragoza) that lead the battle against the french army was Born in Texas , that's why Texas celebrate Cinco de Mayo
Personalmente, no me gusta.

Can understand MX has a lot of independant small businesses, people just working on the street selling tacos, used clothes, books etc. You can call them illegal or undocumented, under the table businesses Can't believe it's 70% of the economy Guarantee you the DR's, dentists, IT guys, mechanics and professional people that have legal businesses all pay into the system with income taxes. The peso is 18.4 - 1 usd today, was 16.7 in 2023, 20.0 in 2022 and 13.0 in 2014 I really believe Mexican economy is in the process and has the potential of exploding due to all the new manufacturing and other new big businesses One day it will get close to the economy of the US and the peso value will go dramatically higher vs the usd Glad to hear MX has all kinds of worldly food as most of us who never went there can only imagine tacos and burritos , yuck !
Actually funny you mention that about certain professions paying more into the system. The reality is that Doctors, Dentist, IT Guys, Mechanics Handy Men, even certain GOV Employees all prefer to get paid in cash for the exact reason of not having to report it and thus not paying tax on it. Mexico is also a very Cash heavy and Cash friendly nation which is what gives people the Freedom to formal or informal, all depends on if you are using cash or mastercard 😅
@@JoseArteagaTravels Can't believe the govt will deliberately exempt them from paying taxes when the growth of the country needs the money, kind of shooting themselves in the foot !
Hehe the magna......you meant manga.....and, I love DBZ and come on bro....adult swim was out in the 90s when we were kids. You are 3 yrs younger than me 😂 DBZ, Gundam, ect
Yeah but I grew up watching American Cartoons and people in Mexico Grew up watching Asian Cartoons dubbed in Spanish. Japanese Anime had a hard time breaking into the US market because the US had its own brands of animation. By the time DBZ and others came along I was already too old for that. I was just trying to make the point it's been a more integral part of Latin and Mexican culture for longer than it has been in the USA. Thanks for sharing!
