I'd try finding a display model somewhere and taking a PS4 Pro for testing. PS4 or XBox connectivity is NOT guaranteed. Although, Switch seems to work fairly consistently...
I have been using the Asus VG245 for my ps4 pro and I recently bought a ps5. How much would you say the colors have increased based on using a 1080p monitor? Is it a noticable difference on a 27 inch display ?
First, the VG245 has a listed sRGB 100% colorspace, the VP28U is unlisted but it's very good, also being a 10-bit panel vs the VG245's 8-bit, translating to finer gradients between colors. The VG245 has 250 lumens vs 300 for the VP28U 4K, so you'll get a brighter display with seemingly richer colors as they are brighter. That jump up to 4K is great too. @@Techspin what is this 32 inch screen you keep mentioning, im about to buy this ASUS but i want to check that ACER as well, 32 inch would be a better option
Another good option at a similar price range is the ASUS VG289Q 28”, an IPS panel for better colour accuracy, it provides a decent HDR, 90% DCI-p3, speakers and a very adjustable stand, A slightly slower response time but if you’re in the market for a budget 4K monitor that typically wouldn’t be a problem.
Thanks, was just testing out 4K Netflix from PS4 Pro last night on it, lookin good. @@baronetto88 I had to return it.. cz my work wasn't allowing me to scale the softwares to work with 4k. only downside was the viewing angles were bad. But if you use it for work .. sitting in front of it . It's an amazing display. Well worth bang for your buck 🥂
But the problem is the newer Samsung and Acer we did have good angles for the same price, depending on availability. In 2021, we cannot recommend this option when better ones are out there.
One of my (23") monitors died a little over a week ago and I was super lucky and found this one for $200. It's been a great monitor with extra screen real estate and games look even better at 4k! 144Hz monitors really don't seem worth the price. I read about people claiming that it's better for online gaming but I don't believe it. Lag is a much bigger factor and a 144Hz monitor isn't going to fix that. The most posts I've seen about 144Hz monitors talk about how smooth the mouse moves. lol
Yeah the increased screen real estate makes it hard to use smaller screens afterwards heh. Ideally for competitive online play, all factors need to be at the best they can, so very good gaming keyboards, mice, a blazing fast refresh rate and of course, fast internet with very little lag. If you watch some Dr. Disrespect (or other streamer) recaps, the reaction time and incredible headshots etc are made possible by the screen showing updates the millisecond they happen (as fast as the GPU can render it out). So in this case it's like having a sportscar but not going for the turbo option. The engine is there and it's good, but the turbo... makes it faster. Agreed on the price though, that's still kinda crazy. Great feedback, thanks!
Thanks for the comment! I don't have a high speed camera to test scientifically (Lumix G7 here) but noticed no difference in mode performance between the different screen settings personally. Apart from the contrast/brightness adjustment, did you see any lag?
I use this monitor playing on my Xbox one S and was wondering if you have any ideas on how to stop my screen from flickering randomly? Usually just a couple seconds of flashing white while I'll be playing a game and did some research and saw some other people had the same problem. Thanks.
I believe that may have to do with freesync, try disabling that, I think it may be in the Xbox display menu? We don't have Xbox here sorry. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!

@@Techspin thanks for the quick reply but I've got another question. So I just want 4k 60fps and I want the 4k to look good. Does the colour look good on this because it is a TN panel? because TN panels don't normally have very good colour
Actually, IPS tends to have great color, but that doesn't mean automatically all other panels are terrible. This panel has really decent color, but yes, our other Acer 32" panel seems more vibrant. The Z200s put out just 5 watts of power. So, your source would need to be pretty loud, volume on the monitor up full, and still, would sound a little low. The Z150s I have cost about $20 and sound a bit fuller and slightly louder. Maybe check the source volume and monitor volume first, might save you some money. Please subscribe! I Just bought this monitor pre-owned for $160, I am testing it, I am using it with a 2020 Asus Laptop Q537 4K, the laptop says 60hz but the monitor settings says 30hz, I wonder if it is a HDMI cable issue, although the HDMI cable says 4K UHD in it. Over all, I will give the monitor a 9/10 too. I think Asus could improve tha base, is not that solid. For the price, still 2 years later, I think is a great option. The image looks brighter in the laptop, but I think a screen specs, the laptop has a brighter screen. Very happy with my purchase still. I will use the monitor for Excel and Office Aplications. Thankyou for the Review.
Very little info findable online for that model, comes with a RTX 2060? Or GTX 1050? As long as it has GTX 10-series or higher it should output 4K over HDMI. You might want to test with DisplayPort, if your laptop doesn't have a full size port it may have a mini-DP port. DisplayPort carries 4K with more headroom (except the newly announced spec) and it'll help to diagnose the problem. Try a monitor reset to use defaults too. It is a great deal and I do love the monitor apart from the no speakers and rare flickering switching from 4k to 1080p. Heard good things about the Samsung at this price point also. I do recommend this monitor, just see if it has the features you want first!
Here's a question for you. How do you turn off the monitor after shutting down the computer? It keeps opening the input selection rather than giving me all the options unless the pc is still running. Thanks in advance!
Hey thanks for stopping by. I haven't noticed any lag. I don't have a slow mo camera to test input lag so unfortunately I have to go by the manufacturer's specs and my own observations.
LG 27UK650 ($400) - IPS LED, AMD Freesync, 4K, HDR10, HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2, 450 nits brightness, and 5ms. I’d say it’s the best console gaming monitor of 2018
That monitor has impressive brightness, but it's the next tier up (which has HDR and HDCP 2.2) After Cyber Monday it's either sold out or only available for a non-sale price of $470 on AmazonUS amzn.to/2SpuKu1 and looks like the Asus 28" 4K VP28UQG has also increased to $320 now.

So I’m confused, I sort of what this Monitor as a PlayStation monitor but I also want to watch Netflix on it. You said there was no speakers on it can you not hear any sound without plugging speakers in? Thanks
Right, you must hook up speakers to this monitor. When built-in, monitor speakers aren't as good sounding or powerful as TV speakers anyways from what we've found. Though depending on size/budget constraints and the location you want it, you may want to look higher $ up and see if there's a TV that suits your needs. Don't forget to subscribe! The MG is the middle line, V is Value and top is ROG usually. The MG comes with a brighter screen @330nits, swivel + height adjust and potrait mode, 2x USB 3.0, ports, 2x HDMI 1.4 inputs, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DisplayPort 1.2. (one more HDMI input, one HDMI downgraded to 1.4). Worth it if you do coding/need USB 3.0 I guess
Sorry to hear that! That's why we make these videos, sometimes it's difficult to determine what is missing from a product, especially if that is an important consideration for your usage. Hi , I bought this monitor a few weeks back and I use it to play on my Xbox series x and the screen keeps flickering white every few minutes and it’s really distracting if I’m in a game. Any idea what the issue could be?
I've seen that issue usually when the HDMI cable is damaged/kinked or near the maximum length. 4K isn't like 1080p, there's 4 times the data of a 1080p signal so there's a lot that can happen to interfere with the picture- try some other cables. Also, make sure Freesync is disabled (we've seen some issues with this and XBoxOne). Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
One part you did not mention... its a true 10 bit panel so colors are awesome! Works flawless with the Xbox One X and 4K videos! I just wished it had an option to give a fraction more depth to black levels, but again its great! Shadow areas have solid detail.. I give it an 8.8 from from perfect 10!
10-bit is often associated with HDR so I may have left that out intentionally... this is me hoping I'm smart haha. The black levels are good, very decent compared to most monitors. note- I hate localized dimming. Still need to compare vs Samsung's offering at some point though. Thanks for the comment!
@@Techspin Thanks for replying, and I understand your point. Still it does have great color with 10 bit... I checked the specs, and yes it surely is a true 10 bit! Techspin Rocks!
Hey doubt you see this just because the video is so old. I’m gaming on my Ps5 and have this exact monitor. Is there a way I can get more the 60hz on this monitor. I thought you could that’s why I bought it. Hope you can help. Thank you
No, not possible, very very few monitors are o erxlockable unless stated in their specs, and of course you it may be possible to damage or shorten the life of the panel. We go into common questions/assumptions about HDMI and touch in monitor overclocking in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VK4Kgne3ao4.html Hope this helps. Honestly the difference between this TN and an IPS panel both from Asus is miniscule, so the big difference will be 1080p vs 4K. Just remember this monitor doesn't have built in speakers.
Did you guys test this with 1440p games? Did you notice shimmering along the edges of objects? I’m wondering if a 1440p monitor would be better at that resolution.
Non native resolution will always not look 100%. If you want to play 1440p then you should get a 1440p monitor, plus a lot of those go up to 144hz which is what you're amazing at, yeah? Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
The sharpness, skin tone and other settings are available when in other picture modes on this monitor. Is the FPS counter supposed to stay on when enabled? Mine doesn't.

I have the exact version of this monitor but in 1080p at 60hz 1 ms response time and I'm thinking of getting this 4k version for the PS5, would it be good?
It's a nice 4K display, should work fine for PS5 also. Hi, i've been using this monitor to display 1440p resolution with my games however it looks much blurry compared to my 27 inch 1440p. Any reasons why? thanks
Sure, it's called native resolution. Any image not displayed at the monitor's native resolution, ie a 1:1 pixel ratio, needs to be scaled. This is done by the monitor's graphics card, which stretches the image over more pixels, resulting in a less sharp, blurrier image. Some scaling can look pretty good, but will never match content displayed at 4K in this monitor's case. The sharpest image will only be at native resolution. Please subscribe!
This works well in a PC + PS4 setup, because then you could switch the PC speakers to plug into the monitor--the monitor has no speakers. If you're only using it for PS4 Pro, well, the cost of new 4K TVs have really come down so you might want to go that route and get tons more display. Also, there are 4K monitors with speakers which would make things easier.
My friend selling his for 150$ you think it's my fair price cause I'm thinking of getting it I have a 1080p tv but I've been wanting to switch to a monitor
For anyone on ps5 what settings are ur monitor on brightness and mode wise? and how did u get 4K to work ? It won’t show up on my ps5 and it looks to bright for me when I tried game mode please someone help?
You must use the HDMI 2.1 cable that comes with the PS5, or at least an HDMI 2.0 to do 4K 60hz. Almost all 1.4's won't work unless they're super short or a bit over-spec. We tested 10 HDMI 1.4 cables, only one worked at 4K 60Hz. Not sure about the brightness issue... Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
surely as reviewers, you should be covering the product as a whole not expecting viewers to fill in the blanks? reviewing a monitor that is aimed at lower end users and console gamers yet not testing on a console?
Thanks for the comment! I realize that I used both PC and PS4 sources, I could have made it clearer which I was using, and perhaps you're an XBox user? So... 5:20 Horizon Zero Dawn is a PS4 exclusive. 7:55 I'm playing a Blu-ray from the PS4 Pro here. But 11:34 Square Enix... hey it's Kingdom Hearts! 14:08 that's Sora from Kingdom Hearts... and hey, the box for the PS4 game is in the shot, too! I try to leave clues for our observant viewers :)
so i have the standard ps4, but i run on a 10 year old 720p tv. i just ordered this monitor. do you think that the picture will be significantly better? or even better in general at the least to say? i bought it to prep for the ps5 but i just wanna know if it'll be a decent upgrade from a 720p tv
Well this is a 27" and it doesn't have speakers, hope you watched the whole video! The creative Pebble V2s might work well for that kinda setup. To answer your question, yes, the quality improves a lot from 720p to 1080p, you should enjoy the increased game detail. Although other 4K TVs are currently coming down to this price range, so you might be able to pick up a 43" on the cheap. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! I love the monitor for the price. A smart choice for the Xbox One X for the compatibility and again the affordability. I’ve been having flickering when using my laptop and the Xbox since probably a month after buying. I enjoy and use it so much that I don’t want to wait or give it back lol. Not sure why this happens when I’m even using 2.0 hdmi cable, but I plan to tell them and show them videos of the flickering besides that really no complaints
Over $2000 of tech, Xbox one x and 2017 MacBook Pro with an Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter to 2.0 high speed hdmi cable. The model offers good value for the money but the way it flickers is spuradic at random times. After having it for a month you realize some of the design quirks that has me looking at different models. Like when the auto off method is blasting a 300 nit bright blue screen till it shuts off, or how the cables have to openness for the cables when connected. I use it a lot and one month makes me disappointed in the screen flickering. The xbox one x is like perfectly compatible with this monitor and should never have flickering, it actually says flicker free when listing things.
I have this and love it, although the one issue i have is every now and then the monitor screen will go black and then come back as soon as you move the mouse, as if power save is on, but it isn't?
Really? I'd check Power Options in Windows and verify Turn Monitor Off is set to never. Don't have enough information to suggest anything else right now...
one important think probably not mentioned is if you sit below the screen the top of the screen fades black. Im not sure of the proper term but this makes it very hard yo play on.
Absolutely correct, we just installed a tilt feature on our floor stand for better viewing angles when using this monitor for filming production. Monitor viewing angles are mostly designed like this, though some have better vertical viewing angles. If you tilt the screen down though, should make this better. @@Techspin I agree, I also tried to tilt the monitor back slightly to compensate the darkness at the top of the screen but experienced minor color loss. so, I've decided to just get the asus vg289q since its only more expensive by $70-$80. Its also an ips screen which is amazing, IPS is just way to good.
I have the same exact monitor. I play PS4 PRO and Xbox One X on it. The monitor turns off randomly for 2 - 3 seconds. Do you guys know what’s the problem ?
Sounds like the HDMI cable is bent or is experiencing interference. I haven't experienced issues with DP cables but that's possible too, there's just lots more cheaply manufactured HDMI cables. Try a different cable, different source maybe too. If you're doing 4K it's highly sensitive to intereference/inferior or damaged cables.
I used this to check this monitor out. I figure they use the same panel. Z-Edge 28-inch Gaming Monitor Ultra HD 4K 3840x2160 TN I think this is a Samsung panel. I do not see Asus making panels.
Does this have hdmi 2.0? Just got a xbox series x and i don't want to break the bank on top of the line stuff (hdmi 2.1 4k 100+hz) but still want to take advantage of the powerful machine. Hope this is a significant upgrade from my 1080p 60hZ tv.
Yes 2x HDMI 2.0- note: no speakers on this monitor. You MUST use use HDMI 2.0 cables, as HDMI 1.4 will not work only delivers 4K 30Hz. This 4K is great for PC and console both, though I just got an Acer et322qk for my production monitor, 32" and with speakers, I'd probably suggest grabbing that for $60 more, I think you'll be happier. Though if you don't mind used I saw the Asus VP28UQG for as low as $225 on Amazon. Both will be fine for casual/console gaming, though if you're looking for a high Hz monitor, 1440p (2K) monitors with their 144Hz is probably what you're looking at. 4K is future-proofing though...
Do you have to something plugged into it in order to access the settings? I was trying to hook up my laptop via hdmi to play around with it and it won’t let me access settings menu or pick up my laptop
Yeah, with almost all monitors, there needs to be an HDMI/DP signal going through in order to access the menu. Check our Twitter for our current contest giveaway! Don't forget to subscribe and thanks for your support!
Loved the review and I had this monitor for a while and it’s great. I was just wondering. Would it be better in game mode. I found it’s to dark and would brightening the contrast and brightness mess with it being game mode

Hz = FPS, so maximum will be 60fps, or 60Hz. That's game dependant of course. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
i got the vp28u since a year and im very happy with it.... use it mostly for 4k gamming but i got recently a occasionally occurring irregular loud buzzing sound comming from it... any idea what that may be?
Could be some audio feedback? Is the volume all the way down? If it's audio I'd check to make sure your equipment is grounded properly and you're running all PC equipment off of one wall socket so there's not a ground loop. If not, it's probably time to service or RMA the monitor, as that sounds irregular. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
Would you highly recommend this monitor for console gaming? Also are there any settings that I should change or problems not explained in the video that I should be aware of?
Console gaming on this monitor at 4K is great, BUT! No speakers. If you're not running through an A/V Receiver, then you'll need to buy speakers separately. We haven't found other problems over a year of use, so far. Please subscribe! Thanks for your support!
Yes it will. Often when mixing different frame refresh speeds like 60 and 120/144hz, you'll get frame stutters and we've seen some other small glitches. Also, a 4K monitor requires 4x the GPU power that a 1080p does. This extra allotment can affect FPS and definitely 1% lows. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! I wouldn't take the monitor if you wanna use it for photoshop. The problem is that the screen is a TN panel, the contrast of the colour is not very clear, let's say you would create a logo for a company as a designer, you will probably run into issues since the colour on the screen will be different than what you print or publish. Best for photo editing are still IPS panels.
What if i play a PC game at 1080p ? Will it look terrible ? IF i use a normal PS4 which cannot go above 1080p will this look terrible ? I am really searching for an answer for thoose questions currently i have a RX 580 but i know this card is not enough for 4k so i am going to upgrade to a RTX 2070 super soon.
@@Techspin After all i decided to go with a 2K Screen. Ps4 looks a bit worse than on my 1080p screen but PC games look alot better. Upgraded to RTX 2070 while doing this aswell. 4k would have needed to much probably so i was unsure. The 144hz are great aswell.
We haven't seen that monitor, however generally both LG and Samsung are market leaders known for releasing great panels. The viewing angles on this ASUS panel aren't great, check a review of the LG and see if it's any better. There an Acer 32" we mentioned elsewhere in our comments which is better than this for PS5, and HAS speakers. The Acer ET322QK we're using is actually an older model without freesync, the base looks like four silver fingers, about $180 cheaper. However, this is the only one we found on Amazon, the freesync one is more expensive- Acer ET322QK wmiipx 31.5" Ultra HD 4K amzn.to/30mqXEo There's a cheaper one, with IPS (though our 4K VA looks great) Acer CB282K smiiprx 28" UHD 4K amzn.to/33kJpPF Every Acer monitor we've tested the last few years we've been super happy with, but as always, if you can physically see the model in the store, it's always better. Hey im thinking about getting the 32in model used for about 200. Or by now is there a better 4k 60hz monitor i should be looking into? I was interested in the new gigabyte 4k m32 but thats 650 after tax. . .
After a couple of years and many more panel reviews, we can no longer recommend this panel as the vertical viewing angles are pretty bad. We usually recommend the Acer ET322QK but my colleague bought one and it had a pixel defect... and so did the replacement. However I've seen about 10 that were perfect...review: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mFXw_nKik10.html The Samsung U32J590 is also a decent choice, except the HDMI 1 port issue ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JjjJTlgGkE4.html Please do subscribe!
hello guys !! I order this monitor and its great but its just 30hz but the monitor capable of 60hz and I have hdmi cable that support 2k / 4k it means 4k but it is still 30hz!! can please tell me what hdmi should I use and I will be thankful
i just purchased this monitor 2 days ago after watching this video. The problem here with this monitor is that it does not display the black color properly like the HP OMEN 27" does. Is there any way to adjust the black color? I mean to say is that the black color displays darker tones of grey......
Think we said 2.0 in the video. It can do 4K 60hz though, should work fine with Series X. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
I only have an Xbox One S and using a Samsung 40NU7120 TV for the time being which is 4k that I want to use as my main TV but looking at a cheap 4k monitor for when I make the jump to next gen. I imagine I should still get a good picture if I get this in the mean time right? I'm just using Bose QC25 plugged into the controller for audio but they should also be fine in the headphone jack too right, no speakers isn't a problem for me.
The 4K output does look great on this screen, it's 300 cd/m2 so decently bright but not the brightest. We still use it for our filming monitor, colors are great, so it should be fine for a cheap 4K. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
@@Techspin Thank you, appreciate the reply. Is there anything in a price band above vastly superior to this model that may be worth considering or at least is an improvement in most categories?
This monitor is still good, and there's a better model here amzn.to/33emB3O However, we're kinda in love with our Acer 4K. Yes, you can switch inputs. We've done it before. So far no issues in testing with multiple inputs on this mon. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
No, generally 4K 60hz monitors are designed to be able to run super high resolution, not super fast resolution. It's possible to find higher hz monitors, but they're usually double the price or more. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
I am considering getting this to use for a PS4 Pro on games such as Fifa, COD Fortnite etc. I was wondering if you would recommend for these type of games and what the refresh rate is really like whilst playing?
PS4 Pro games on the monitor looked really great-if the game itself supports 4Kp60 then this monitor will handle it! The refresh rate is quick and I didn't see any motion blur or tearing while playing Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX which runs at 4Kp60 according to www.gamesradar.com/ps4-pro-confirmed-games-list/
This is a good monitor for PS5, however, we're kinda in love with our Acer 4K. Yeah if your speaker has a wire/jack, you should be able to run a wire from the monitor headphone jack to your speaker. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
I currently have a 2k monitor at like 75hz. Should I upgrade to this? I want to game in 4K and I am wondering if it is laggy or has slow response rate from only having 60hz. I know the actual response time is 1ms but does the hz on the monitor impact the performance?
Hey thanks for the comment! Well yes, 75hz means a maximum of 75fps, 60hz maximum will be 60fps. Also, gaming in 4K will demand much more of your graphics card than 2K, so you'll need a high end card- depending on what game you're playing. I'd check some GPU benchmarks first to get an idea of what FPS you can get in your game at 4K first. But the picture is really nice... so you may want to try it out anyways!
What kind of graphics card would you recommend for this? I assume something from AMD because of the freesync. I am not trying to drop more than 500-600. What would be the best for this. And can I overclock the monitor to have more hz?

The second screen will need to be 'extended' to use 4K, yes, it's possible. 4K uses a lot of system resources and at least a GTX 10-series graphics card for the hardware decoder though!
Hi would someone be able to tell me if I would need to use a hdmi cable when using a DisplayPort cable or just the DisplayPort only to enable 4K and 60hz? Also can you use any of the hdmi port on the monitor for the DisplayPort cable or is there a different port specifically for the DisplayPort? Thanks
DisplayPort or DP is similar to HDMI; use one cable, show a screen on a monitor. Though you can hook up a PS4 with HDMI and a PC via DP to one monitor, DP and HDMI aren't exactly interchangeable. Most PC graphics cards only have one HDMI out which is fine hooking up one monitor with HDMI, and another with DP. But if you want to do two HDMI, you start running into problems- one DisplayPort must be used, and that requires an "active" type adapter. Basic rule: if your card and monitor both have the ability to do DisplayPort, just use a DP cable. 1) You can't use a DisplayPort cable in an HDMI port. 2)If using this with PC, your graphics card needs to be able to put out 4K. Older cards like a GTX 970 can only do 4K though DP, GTX 10-series and newer can use HDMI. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends to help us grow! Thanks for your support!
Read through our video comments, remember there was some stuff about how to get this monitor working with Xbox One X, nor sure if it does Freesync offhand. Check our Twitter for our current contest giveaway! Don't forget to subscribe and thanks for your support!
