Imagine if he was drafted in 05 vs 1995? Or even later? He shot like 46%+ from long 2 and around 47% from 10-16ft in his prime. Career 45% and 45.4%. no telling how elite he would’ve been. Like 23/13/5/1.5/1.5 on 49-50% FG, and around 80% FT. If those 18 footers were 3 balls, which 0 doubt in my mind he would’ve been really good at, he could’ve been one of the most versatile 3 level scorers with DPOY caliber defense and the ability to guard basically 1-5. He would’ve been the ultimate Swiss Army knife on both ends. Pick and pop? No problem. Pick and roll? No problem. Passing out of the short roll? No problem. He could’ve switched like Bam (better, they could’ve played him at the 5 but also put him on the opponents best big wing scorer) but still protected the rim at an elite level. If a C can shoot like 37%+ on 5+ 3PA PER 36, it changes the entire offense. I don’t think he would’ve been like KAT from 3 or some high volume 40% guy, but no doubt he would’ve shot 37-38% on 5+ att. There are so few players ever that can truly protect the rim and hit jumpers like butter, switch, create in the midrange if needed, catch lobs, send your sht to the 3rd row, put you on a poster, and who love the game like KG did. Switch most of those 16-20 footers in to 3PA, while being a 40% corner 3P shooter, still being able to finish at the rim at 70%, 45%+ from floater range, he would’ve been even more unstoppable. He was basically made for the modern game. A DPOY level rim protector who can knockdown 3s on good volume at a high clip, still create his own middies and FTAs, switch on D, play with his intensity, it would’ve been hard to lose with a semi competent GM. He had an amazing career, but if he was both like 10-15y later it’s possible he would’ve been one of the best players of all time. The funniest thing is putting KG on the Heat with LeBron and Wade instead of Bosh and watch how much chaos he’d cause. There are a billion hypotheticals bc hie game would’ve transcended every era, and he only would’ve gotten better. Some players from the past you’re not sure if they’d be the same with how different the game is today. KG is not one of them. Put him next to Wemby or Chet and see what absurdity happens. Replace AD with him. Imagine him on the current BOS team? 🤣 Sorry for the long post but it’s legit wild how well he’d fit in basically any era and how dominant he’d be today, and he was already a 15x AS, 9x All NBA, DPOY, 12x Alll-DEF, MVP, etc. One of the GOATs.
