Music video by Survivor performing Popular Girl (Live in Japan 1985). (C) 1985 RCA Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment #Survivor #PopularGirl #Vevo #RockAndRoll #VevoOfficial
Is there any song that Jimi doesn't sing great? Still listening to his singing daily, whether with Survivor or solo CDs, unreleased music or One Man's Trash History, Cobra, Target. His singing was amazing until his passing. His silver tenor voice is perfection. All of the musicians in Survivor were fantastic too. Love the multi-talented Jim Peterik. 👏
I don't want no popular girl, I don't want no popular boy, I want Jimi Jamison :) what a voice! He died too soon. One of my favorite men. Survivor = great great band, Frank Sullavan = brilliant guitarist. Long live Survivor! Long live talented American artists!
I have that book, and you're right, it's awesome. you're also right that Jim Peterik is one of the greatest songwriters in not just rock music history, but music history period.
When she walks in the room, every eye in the place Turns to follow her every move She's arrived on the scene in her diamonds and jeans World class, she's got nothing to prove It takes a long time to know her, she gives it up a little at a time She's gettin' what she wants She's a popular girl Settin' those hearts on fire Everybody wants to be Part of her world She's a popular girl Such a popular girl She walks down the street, knocks 'em dead on their feet With a casual nonchalance When she's breaking your heart, she's the state of the art With license to take what she wants It takes a hard man to hold her, she likes to get a little out of line She's gettin' what she wants She's a popular girl Settin' those hearts on fire Everybody wants to be Part of her world She's a popular girl Such a popular girl She waits by the window, the world is her stage Each smile is her mirror in the passing parade, passing parade And in the end, all she'll be is your friend Though passion's your lone desire, she's the one you can't touch, You want her so much, you're burnin', your heart's on fire It takes a hard man to hold her, the challenge is forever on my mind She's gettin' what she wants She's a popular girl Settin' those hearts on fire Everybody wants to be Part of her world She's a popular girl Such a popular girl
Regardless if it's their original Lead-Singer Dave Bickler or his replacement the late, great highly underrated Jimi Jameson, "Survivor's" quality of music was top-notch all because of the entire backing of the band themselves not just the two respective vocalists.
I bought the Vital Signs Album because of the song Popular Girl, this song has all the elements of my experiences with women, the arrangement especially the vocal ROCKS!
You know someone is a truly incredible vocalist when he can bring musical interest to an otherwise lackluster song. That said, Jimi and the bandmembers in Survivor were a match made in heaven. With the right songs, they rose high above a pleasant or catchy melody with instrumental backing. They soared, creating an experience that could bring alive the deepest of emotion. I didn't just "like" or "enjoy" their work, but FELT the melancholy journey of "The Search is Over," the playful joy of "High on You," and the rousing determination of "Burning Heart" and "Eye of the Tiger." And what of "Man Again the World?" Jimi's vocal layers and the band's perfectly in sync dynamic bring me from the contemplative solitude of the first verse, to the confidently self-reliant energy of the last.
I love this version of this video from this concert. This is Jimi’s real and raw beautiful unaltered voice. The other version which shows them onstage, his voice is different. I love this one because that was Jimi, he sang from his Heart.
Wow. I was 19 in 1984 when "Vital signs" came out. I wore that cassette out in my walkman. Jimi Jamieson was equally as good if not better than Steve Perry. ( No disrespect to Steve Perry.) Remember Survivor fans, "It's the singer, not the song"
Virtualnoaidi you say he lacks stage presence but i beg to differ he as the best voice any group would want and every inch of him physical perfection how much more do you need
AMOR MIO NO PUEDO DEJAR DE VER TUS VIDEOS NI DE ESCUCHAR TUS CANCIONES. NO TUVE LA DICHA DE CONOCERTE PERO SI LA DICHA DE ENAMORARME A PRIMERA VISTA. Y PENSAR Q YO TAN SOLO TENIA 6 AÑOS EN ESTE AÑO TAN ESPECIAL PARA TI EN SURVIVOR TOCABA LA CIMA. HOY PUEDO DECIR Q EL AMOR SI EXISTE A PRIMERA VISTA. ME DUELE EL ALMA SABER Q YA NO ESTAS. DESCANSA EN PAZ AMOR MIO. TE AMO JIM 💔
Love this song since 83 Everyone knows a Popular Girl in high school and sfter Look at her now and look in the mirror Most women now are awesome jimmi probably Never had a dating problem As long as yout soul heart and spirit are true thr Popular Girls can suffer now Bad gifts come in beautiful packages great great song 30 years later
Something I've always found curious is that the album version of Popular Girl (on Vital Signs) is 3:40, but every "extended version" including live versions such as this one, or the one on their extended versions CD, is 3:10, exactly 30 seconds SHORTER, and it's the only song actually shortened rather than extended.
Agreed, what I also wonder is why is it that on every live video of this classic, why is it actually half a minute SHORTER than on Vital Signs (the record it was released on in 1984)? on the Vital Signs album, it's 3:40, but even on the "EXTENDED VERSIONS: CLASSIC TRACKS" CD, it's only 3:10, just like this video.
@@ColeKeleher I think that's just how they decided to play it live. Instead of "dragging it out" for that other half a minute, their decision was to just end it earlier for some reason.
