Collier Landry was only twelve years old when he testified against his father in court for the murder of his mother. Collier's narcissist father's crimes led him to prison and left his own son abandoned. This episode goes into detail about how Collier grew up without parents, becoming a filmmaker and the documentary that brought light into why his father committed murder. Since then, Collier has shed light on his story in order to help other victims in similar situations have a voice. Listen to part 2 to learn about Collier and fellow survivor Terra Newell's story.
Collier is the creator and subject of the Discovery+ documentary A Murder in Mansfield. He is the host of the Moving Past Murder podcast, and upcoming podcast Survivor Squad with co-host Terra Newell (Dirty John).
As a formally trained musician and photographer, Collier Landry segued into filmmaking to creatively express his own traumatic childhood story - witnessing the murder of his mother Noreen by his narcissist father, Dr. John F. Boyle - and to give a narrative voice to others in similar circumstances.
I want to hear from you, too. Have a toxic topic you want me to explore? Email me at askdrramani@redtabletalk.com. I just might answer your questions on air.

I'm so sorry it took the death of your mother at his hands for you to finally keep people safe from him. I wish there was a way your mother could have been kept safe, too. I just found this channel last night. It's amazing--these interviews and accounts from survivor of abuse. Everyone needs to be educated in my opinion to pay attention to their gut brain. Intuition is there for a reason. I have journaled for years and now I'm glad I did because manipulation from people in my life tried to make me Believe I am crazy. I am so grateful this channel came into my feed and at the right time because I've been struggling with my thoughts and thinking maybe I have some personality disorder and being a very sensitive and empathic person was not really true and my FOO, was right about their scapegoat sister. Anyway, generational abuse is a real thing and it followed me as I found partners in my life who I thought treated me in ways that were/are normal. It feels/felt familiar to me. From my relationship of 32 years, 26 of them married, to following my husband to a Bible group where I experienced spiritual abuse, to now being in a relationship of over 10 years with a man who has rage and anger issues and is never wrong about anything and doesn't apologize and just gets pissed off when I call him out and quickly goes to personal attacks on my character (which is really projecting in my opinion). I'm in a delicate place right now where I'm trying to escape. I go to therapy and I'm constantly questioning my reality. It's a scary place to be.

At the time of Collier's mom's passing, there was little information on narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths. It was a different time. Today these psychological traits/disorders are more prevalent in our society than ever before. Thank you for pointing out Dr. Ramani that grandiosity comes in many shapes and forms!
@lauraw.7008
@lauraw.7008 11 месяцев назад
@cheryl12196 well, as a society, we still “admire” those personality traits. Look at how corporate directors hide behind the corporate shell while destroying people’s lives, and still want more. *corporation* “tax me less, let me pay surfdom (or less) wages, I deserve to control the lives of those lesser than me, and I am the decider of who those people are.”

I understand the question "Why did I go through all of this, if it isn't to help others NOT go through it"? I feel so much , also, that portions at least of my own journey are meant to be shared. We can do this, whether or not we choose to reveal who we are in the story. So many people need to understand psychology. They need to recognize sociopaths and psychopaths...narcissism. It is go good to hear the police and social services were able to assist in this tragedy. And, it's remarkable that he could forgive as well as maintain a strong sense of individuality. Life is painful...thank you for sharing your story.

That's how my father talk #exactly like in that letter# when my brother passed away in a car accident and we using his car to sort out funeral arrangement. Next day i went fetch my car and left him to go alone when we were doing the funeral preparations. I end up confused and frustrated because it like what are you talking about. The funeral was like it his wedding, the whole time waiting for a funeral it was a nightmare between her and my mother. 2019 November to 2020 December was the worse for me as they got separated in 2020 December. Two narcissist fighting it not fun. So even though there was killing between my parents but this story I relate with it the most because this was almost my life. My father was the only one working at home and mother was a housewife.

I just agree when you said when that line gets crossed, the line gets crossed all the time many times it’s not a resource where the people don’t realize they’re being abused at all. That’s the biggest problem because many people come from families that abused him as well, so there’s nothing to compare it to.

Narcissists always have backups because they are so fragile they never want to be without a supply so they cultivate multiple streams of supply in case one fails. It even has a name in DV circles mate dependency diversification or something. Will update with the proper name.

I would be interested In Dr Ramani exploring the double life narcissist have. My husband is a Dr and like this case when I looked into it more he is very well liked and respected In my small town. So much so I get gaslighted by medical help I tried to seek out for myself,it took years before someone could say lets-talk about “the elephant in the room” I am still treated like I am the crazy one. However as my husband ages it is becoming harder and harder to keep up the f arcade. People in the beginning would say I married him to be “the Doctors wife” which was so untrue. I had my own career and money. I actually was reluctant to get married, but guess what …..I was loved bombed. I come from the generation that the Dr is always right. It’s been a long and lonely road

The social propaganda for medical doctors is unearned in reality. They are the 3rd leading cause for patients death due to error. Women doctors apparently have lower fatality rates & better outcomes. Male doctors also have the highest abuse rates even more than clergy! 1. doctors 2. teachers 3. clergy Doctors (specifically surgeons) are also the top 10 jobs of choice for psychopaths. Time to take them of their pedestals.

Collier, you are complete. Don’t fall for your father’s manipulation, your father died when he killed your beloved mother, he no longer exists. Many of us don’t get the parent we deserve, we can move on and live a great life knowing we didn’t choose our parent. Nurture yourself, not the relationship you wish you had had. Bless you.

With everything. All comes to what we accept. And we, as a society, love a bully. The whole system is upside down. The thing is, we have to educate ourselves to the fact the some people are horrible human beings. It just is….we have to get over it. Protect ourselves and try to raise our kids to have acceptance and love ( empathy!). Maybe a few generations from now, the abusers will be rare. And even if they are not, they will be motivated to control it and suck it up…. survival will depend on collaboration and understanding of each other…..

There is no "why.". If there was, it would make some kind of sense. He killed her because he is a psychopath that likes to beat up on defenseless women and children. He liked to go home and take out his frustrations on them. Maybe she didn't give him his way. Maybe she didn't give into him fast enough. Maybe he didn't feel that she had the right to defend herself or her son? They were victims, short and to the point!!
