@@jedmccullough7959 What the fuck do you even mean?? The guy makes documentaries, he goes to the wild to survive in the most horrible ways, that's how they make a living. His kid just turned 16 in this one, he basically knew nothing about anything because he's a kid. This episode is a great example of a father finally looking at his son as a man, as reliable, as smart and handy, and a damn good fisher! He's teaching him responsibility at the exact right age. This is a very fun episode, there's literally no sadness in it... the kid is finally looking at his father's endeavours firsthand, and experiencing how hard his dad works to put food on the table and get them a comfortable living. And at the same time, Les is looking at his son as a friend and companion! It's a bonding experience that will last them a lifetime

@@WalkerRileyMC No shit, if anything Les was a disappointment in this episode. Why the fuck would this kid want to eat sea weed and what not when he knows he can get a fish. Also, the constant moaning of "I have to think for two of us I'm soooo tired", seems to me the kid is the reason they found water, made the spears that got the first fish, wanted to fish the whole time and when they do they catch fish (that the kid caught btw), is the one who DIDN'T burn his foot. And could easily lit the fire with those glasses he was wearing if someone had showed him how. Whoever is pickin on the kid is a moron. Even Les ending the episode with the whole "had to work so hard to motivate him" spiel is lame. Give the kid tasks and he'll work on them, BAM motivated.

It's good you put your feet in the saltwater. I'm not sure if you know this but putting salt on a burn helps the pain and also helps to heal the burn and even sometimes it will heal immediately. A passed down remedy that I use all the time in the kitchen. the best way is to put the burn in water then sprinkle as much salt on top as you can.

it's great because it allows you to see the mistakes you could potentially make in these situations it takes a smart man to learn from his mistakes but a wise man to learn from other peoples

As a kayaking instructor it made me seriously cringe when he said if he flipped with his spray deck on he would have been stuck upside down - what the hell was he doing out on his own without knowing how to roll back up or pop his deck? Like - this is basic shit my dude, bit annoyed at the lack of safety, he genuinely could have fuckin died like what

It got me good too, I was raised in the woods with my old man hunting and fishing, camping and the sorts, never wanted to spend a second away from him and as an adult I still don't. I've seen this episode many times and that part still tears me up.

He got murdered before we left, Thats where i was born. its nice to see less surviving in its forest. definitely my fav show of all time. I hope his kid can manage to be the same as his dad. will be very hard but...he has the tools right infront of him if he uses them wisely and listens good

Taking some time to make a spear/walking stick is a correct choice in most wilderness situations, including theirs, even if they didn't end up catching that fish. Sure, Les might've assessed the situation according to his extensive knowledge and experience and deemed a spear in that situation of little benefit to him, but for the rest of us: -Simply seeing medium-animal tracks (Les identified as wolf tracks at 3:57) in the wilds would be a big strain on the mind for most, thus having a spear in hand offers psychological benefits: You're gonna be more calm knowing you at least have a chance if anything not too large comes out of the bush, and you're gonna be able to get more restful sleep at night, especially if you're not used to sleeping outdoors, if you got any form of weapon beside you. -You can use it as a walking stick when going through rough terrain, like in the forest, to prevent tripping and falling. People don't go on fishing trips with footwear that's properly suited for trekking through forests, and having a long stick can mitigate risk. *Added bonus is, because you're using it to help with walking, you're not bearing the full weight of the stick most of the time, so it doesn't drain too much energy or take too much effort to carry it along. -If it's long and sturdy enough you can also use it to pole-vault across small rivers without getting your feet wet. -The added utility of spear-fishing in shallow waters is a nice bonus. -You can use it to safely grab/push/knock stuff that's out of reach (low hanging tree fruit, birds nests, snakes, large insects etc.) TLDR: Big stick good, carry big stick, it helpful.

Do it man! I went for a week long canoing / hunting / fishing trip and it was the best choice I ever made. It was fucking rough a couple nights but god was it worth it in hindsight. Bring rice and dried foods you can boil to rehydrate or cook and you'll be good to go. Dont rely on catching fish or snaring a rabbit to eat, just hope you get one to add to the rice or beans or whatever dried stuff you bring.

@@KingFluffs you need licences and tags to hunt gators. Dont put yourself in a survival situation just to hunt out of season.

@@notmefrfr You do? We don't have gators in my country so I'm unaware of the laws on them. What do people usually hunt out there?

@@KingFluffs you cant hunt almost any animal but you need a license and tag and there are only certain times of the year you can legally hunt certain species. Wild hogs are an invasive species so they can be hunted any time of the year without a tag but you still need a license. For example deer can only be hunted in november and December with a modern rifle in my area of the US.

I did this stuff with my father. Loved it. Little girls are forgotten sometimes, but I have now fond memories of spending time in the wilderness with my father. Now I live in an off-grid cabin in the northern boreal forests. :)

I took my kids camping dozens of times when they were young, but by the time they were in high school - no way, they didn't like being out the way I did. And yes, I just took them to Forest Service camp grounds with fresh water and handy grills plus a fire ring. We didn't rough it.

Les is so good at film making and writing, pulling out what's entertaining and the unseen challenges, parenting challenges. He tips his hat to that, stress of thinking for both and dad dismissal which is done daily, of discounting spear as useless. Dads can't be right all the time, unfortunately

Right! But it seems like he did come around. It's got to be a lot of pressure at that age knowing your private time will be broadcast to the world for judgement. I couldn't do it. It was such a precious gift to be let a peek inside the window (and on such a big occasion). Nothing like this ever happened to me but if I could gift someone an experience i would look a lot like this. Just a truly beautiful thing to share with the world. Thank you, Stroud Family!
