Come along for this addition of All work, no talk, Shut Up Sunday.. I start the disassembly of an ugly motor. Out of a 1971 Triumph 500 cc T100 Daytona motorcycle. This engine has had some "work" done to it and has also had water intrusion into the transmission.

When I got my 70 Daytona, I found that the prior owner had tried to DRILL the rod bolts out of it! Don't ask me why, if I ran with people like that I probably would have been hit by a bus for not looking when I cross the street or something! It was a mess, I rode it for a long time and now it's rebuild time, due to a bout with cancer, I farmed the engine rebuild out to a friend of mine who is a very experienced Triumph guy, so all I am doing is the cosmetics this time, I'm better at making shit look good than wrenching anyway. He did have his work cut out for him though, I used to run "Oilzall" in it, just like Castrol R, but when I shut it down a long time back, I neglected to rinse it through with regular oil! So it was as glued together as you'd want it be, but it's all cleaned up now and on the way back to my spring loaded wrist, I love that little 500! Ps.. I'm in need of a couple transmission parts if have for the right price, all of my engine parts have been ordered up, but a couple used transmission parts wont hurt, have a good day.

Hey Chuck. A glued together sounds like fun, lol. I have not had much experience with Oilzall in four strokes. Did you run it straight in the oil tank? The following link is to the pieces that I have for sale for the 500's right now. If you find something you need message me through here and we can make a good deal. If there is something else, let me know , I might have it but not listed it. rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575498998&toolid=10001&campid=5338525982&customid=tri+500&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fm.html%3F_ssn%3Dmichelface%26LH_PrefLoc%3D%26_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp2499338.m570.l1313.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.X500.TRS0%26_nkw%3D500%26_sacat%3D0 All the best! Hey Chuck, did you get my previous reply to your comment? I have been having a lot of comments go missing lately.

If household silicone prevents the push rod tubes from leaking, I'm going to start using it instead of O rings.

I am sure you are kidding but I am pretty sure it does not do any better than the o-rings. It is not really meant to go through heat cycles and its a mess to clean up. Probably better products out there if you really wanted to go that route. Thanks for watching! Eddie

I have a '66 T100 that I bought as a project in a box. I determined that mine was rebuilt, many years ago with .010 over pistons. The crank was turned .010 under but they failed to clean the crank trap. I estimate it ran for less than 5 minutes before it tired up. They pushed it off in a corner and left it to die. I got it about 30 years later.

ouch, that's a lot of work to then forget the housekeeping.

@@theeddies I know. I was so surprised. I had to beat the pistons out due to rust but a lot of it was due to the rod being tied up. I pulled the rod, cleaned out the crank, polished the crank journals, installed new bearing shells (.010 over) and low and behold it's within spec. It runs great now.

I have 2 more in better condition, but this has a few good parts, once I get the bathroom sealant off:-)

Looks like the previous owner went a little crazy with the silicone. And water was still able to get inside parts of the engine to rust it up.

Links do not always go through in comments. Just search "triumph motorcycle camshaft tool" on google. There are a couple places that have them like the Bonneville Shop. Thanks, Eddie
