I thought I read a while back that bamboo roots were very deep and spread out. If I would if known they weren't I would have planted bamboo a long time ago. Thanks for the helpful info.

I found your channel today & I’m binge watching all the bamboo videos. Do you have a reference for identifying types of bamboo? I bought 24 acres of undeveloped forest in Oklahoma a year ago and I discovered a grove of bamboo growing next to a stream. I have always heard how invasive it is but in a years time it doesn’t seem to have expanded a crazy amount or spread anywhere else on the property. It’s a good amount of bamboo and it’s growing very tightly so I need to thin it. I’m just wondering if all bamboo will grow into large diameter poles if grown correctly...? What I can see around the perimeter is up to around 3 inches in diameter and I’m assuming newest growth. Ty for all the info!

There are two types of bamboo. Clumping bamboo and running bamboo. Clumpers stay in a tight clump, runner spread everywhere but may be limited by water. I don't know what you have in Oklahoma but it's one of those two types. Also the size and diameter of the culm depends on the variety of bamboo. You won't get 8" diameter culms with running bamboo, but a clump that can make 8" diameter culms won't make any that big unless they are well fed. Did that make any sense?

Has the big island still managed to maintain that "old hawaii" environment in recent years? Ive heard they got the fastest population of any other hawaiian island. Has there been a huge influx of people moving there lately, and has the island become to industrialized or do you sense that starting to happen? I reside in a fairly big city. Too many people, too much concrete, too much noise. Im through with the city life and want a complete opposite lifestyle now. A get away for good. I hope big island still has that countryside feel overall, with a lot greenlife, jungle, quiet, and areas with few people.
