Thanks for this review. I'm a firm believer that if you wanna do anything, even play music, you need the right tool and your review has sold me on the Suzuki which I'm considering anyway. You sound good by the way. Nice vibrato too which is something I'm working on :)

Hey Paul, thanks for your insight.Long and short of it, having seen your enthusiasm for the SCX 64 I ordered one. Turned up yesterday. Now I know zip about harmonicas this is a new journey for me musically. I could tell that it is a well engineered bit of kit and the notes that I was able make sounded (to my ear) pretty damn nice. So I have been trying to get clean single notes. This I am managing after a fashion except for the D and D#/Eb above middle C. Is this a technique issue or have I got a dud harp? Perhaps you could give me some guidance. I am happy to put the hours in and I know this is an endless road. Thanks again.

Hi there Ant, sorry for the delayed response! Glad you like the harmonica you definitely got a good one. A couple things here; It is more than likely a technique thing, especially as a beginner. Try and keep an even air stream, not too hard. I've seen more guys blow out chromatics when first starting due to playing way too hard. Make sure you are keeping a good even air stream and focus on opening your embouchure. Make minor adjustments to this until you get the note, then work on holding it. Don't give up on it, you will get it. We all have areas of the instrument we have to "get." Eventually what happens is your technique catches up and you will be able to do what your trying to do. Go slowly from note to note at first. Hope this helps man! Take care Ant.

P Leasum Paul Hi. Thanks for that. Yes I'm sure you are right, it's down to me and my lack of technique. I have got to hang up my guitars for a few weeks while a broken finger mends (which is why I went for the harmonica in the first place) so I have got no excuse not to practice. I get the feeling this harmonica thing could be addictive. If you have a moment check out my you tube videos, the quality's a bit variable but hey. Anyway, back to the wood shed. Cheers Paul.

Hi, SCX 48 Vs SCX 64, both of them sound similar in tone, and which one is more difficult to play given that SCX64 looks pretty thick. Thanks!

Nice! I played the diatonic and tremolo back in high school before i wanted to move to a chromatic one. But they were super pricey and i didnt have much back then. So i was always looking for prices until i found a hohner super chromatica at 80 bucks and it said that it was brand new. But when it came, it obviously looked like the box was opened. And also the harmonica showed looked dirty and a little used (like the usual lips marks after playing). Had to disinfect it and the higher notes holes wouldnt even play unless i blowed reqlly hard :k

@Pleasum
@Pleasum 7 лет назад
Hello there Lie, If you are fairly new to the chromatic, then yes it can be. Make sure you open up your embouchure and airway. Make minor adjustments to this as you play the notes and it will correct. When I switch back and forth from different models and manufacturers I have to adjust to the sensitivity of the instrument to make the notes sound good.

Hey Paul, just picked up my new SCX 64 today. Sounds great except I can't get much sound out of the highest notes on the 12 hole. Did you have any issues? Is there perhaps a break in period?
@Pleasum
@Pleasum 9 лет назад
Hey there Ian, I have a couple questions before answering this. 1.) are you a new chromatic player? 2.) Do you tongue block or otherwise? 3.) Are you approaching the Chromatic as you would a diatonic? The upper register / holes, especially the very top three can really give a new player a bit of trouble at first. I almost liken it to the 2 hole draw on the diatonic when first starting out. The top holes demand a different kind of attention when it comes to your embouchure, the air stream, and pressure. To answer your question in another way, I did have trouble with the top holes when I first started and the first reaction is always to look at the instrument but it really does come down to technique development. The two questions above may shed some light on this. Let me know man!

I left another comment on another one of your videos, but now I have a new question. How does this harp compare to the super 64 ? As I said before I love the bright sound it makes and how Stevie wonder plays it. How does compare to the super64x?
@Pleasum
@Pleasum 9 лет назад
Hi Michael, I have both models and like them both but prefer the SCX. It is lighter and a bit more comfortable. I also find it is easier to care after. The Super64x is a bit noisier with the slide as well. The SCX is quieter to my ear. Either way, they are both really nice. I play the SCX more but do break out the super64 quite a bit. Hope this helps Michael. Take care!

Hi Mr.Leasum, I do have a question about Suzuki SCX64,. I opened SCX 64 for cleaning as certain hole seemed clogged up. I found there is no piece of back plate under the slider which is under the mouth piece. That means the slider is just on the top of plastic comb, is this right?

Hey Paul...thanks ...good review...I have a question. I'm a diatonic player moving over to chrom via George Smith and Bill Clarke stuff....I think I'm gonna like it and will stick with it. Would you recommend that I go with the 48 or move on up to the 64? Am I likely to regret going 'small' and need to upgrade?
@Pleasum
@Pleasum 3 года назад
Hi there Mick, Well, I don't know that I would say you would regret playing either the 48 or 64. I think it comes down to application, comfort, and what not. There are guys who "get lost" on a 64 due to the size yet the 48 doesn't give you some of those lower octave notes found in certain jazz standards. I think there is a definite trade off to a degree. Go with what you are comfortable with. I don't think it's necessarily an upgrade either. It's just a range thing. Some guys go with orchestra tuned instruments because they want that lower octave note and don't necessarily play those high octave notes so, again it's a matter of application. I personally like the 64s for that lower octave but that's just me. Either way, good luck!!

Just bought a Chromatix scx-64. Was wondering if it is normal for the lower notes to tend to buzz and rattle once the not has been played. No rattle or buzz while the note is being played. Seems to be on the release of the notes. (Not sure how to explain) Only happens on the lower octave. Is just the way I attack the lower notes? Technique probleme? Would this happen also on a Hohner 64? I have a Hohner 270 but not having the lower octave, I can't compare to see if it's my playing. Was hesitating a long time beween the Super 64 and the scx-64 and wondering if I would have had the same issue with a super 64 (hohner).
@Pleasum
@Pleasum 8 лет назад
+Stephane Podorieszach Hey there Stephane, one suggestion I would make is to warm your harmonica up a bit before playing. The answer on that is yes to a degree. Mine will make the rattle a bit on the low end If I don't warm it up a bit first. The heat of your breath hits the cold reeds and creates condensation which can cause your wind savers to "flap" when played. This will typically go away after a while, but it's fairly common on a lot of the models. I don't know if that is what you are dealing with here, but I would try this first before contacting Suzuki for help. Take care! - Paul

+P Leasum Thanks for the tip. I think you are right. More warm up time seems to improve the situtation. Defenitly love my Chromatix. Fun to play, comfortable and sounds great.

I found reviews on Amazon and elsewhere which complained that the chrome finish on the SCX 64 mouthpiece wears off quickly. Do you think these buyers got fakes with the original mouthpiece swapped out or is it a genuine Suzuki design failure. The Suzuki SCX 64 sounds like a Best Value item but I hesitate because of the mouthpiece concern. Nice review and thanks for sounding the warning about Amazon.
@Pleasum
@Pleasum 6 лет назад
Hey there Robin, yes, absolutely. Buyer beware on Amazon. There is a lot of counterfeit/fake stuff coming in from China in particular. I don't know if that was what happened with those particular items but I can attest to the fact that I have had mine now for a couple years and that isn't a problem. In fact, this is the first I've heard of something like this happening. Not surprising though with the Amazon thing. Buy from a reputable dealer like Rockinrons and you don't have to worry about this stuff. Thanks and take care!

Hey Paul, greetings from Slovakia! As others, I really like you reveiw and other videos. Got one question you could help me to figure out - within budget 16-holes chromatic harmonicas, would you recomed Suzuki Chromatix SCX 64 or Hohner 64 Chromonica? Both are availalbe in my country for similar price. I`m a richter-tuned harp player (as well as accordion), and would really love to join chomatic harmonica world. Thanks!

Hey there Samuel, while there are a lot of opinions about this question, my own personal opinion is that the SCX cannot be beat for that price range. I have several high end chromatics and the SCX 64 is still my favorite. If you do get this harmonica, check out my "fix that slider" video. It will really be a game changer for you if you get that harmonica. Long story short, the SCX64 if my hands down favorite! Good luck!!

Lot's of bad stuff coming in from over seas. Buy from a reputable dealer like Rockinrons. Raspored otvora zactonove u okruglim rupama isto otezava ovakav nacin sviranja. Pizdrav.
