The red DR650R is restored according to the Restoration Valve A class standards. The cost all depends on the condition of the bike and how much the parts go for now. At the moment a full restoration could go somewhere from 1k to 3k or more.

Laba diena, what is your general impression about DR 650 ? I am now looking into 1993 Dakar , kick only option. Thinking to ride it for longer rides to Scandinavia . Let say 50 K KM is it alot for that bike? because most of these bikes are 40-50 K milage. paldies

Sveiki Well, that sounds like a great adventure. I haven’t tested the SE model out of the DR650 family, but I have owned two RSE models and the red R Djebel is my favourite so far. The only annoying thing with a kick-start version is that it takes a few seconds to start, not a thing that you would want to do on the street, in a traffic junction. But if the carburetor is set right and the engine is healthy, you can have a great time with these bikes. You can really feel the light weight with the Djebel model, the wossner piston helps it also. 50k for these pre-96 engines can go two ways, you inspect it and the tolerances are close to the limits or it needs one of the common things for these engines. That all depends on how the bike has been ridden, those who have been abused don’t last even that long. I would recommend checking the timing chain tensioner, how much distance is still left in it. That’s a easy check, you only need to remove the tensioner. You can check how a new one looks in the Djebel final. Next weak point is the valve rockers, the hardened surface is usually gone after 50k, and you have to replace them. And you need to make sure that the balancing chain isn’t stretched or out of adjustment, otherwise it can skip a tooth and start vibrating the whole bike. If you get a rebuilt one, like the black RS that I recently sold, then it can last another 50k or more if you don’t overheat it or ride it to the max limit. Riding the Djebel is great, it can take sharp and tight corners, light enough to push it around in the garage, plenty of torque to have fun and to get around town. It could use a steering damper, because the front feels a bit light on the highway. The RS models are better on long highway road trips. Wish you the best luck with your adventure
