Very nice to see the care being shown to this classic beauty. I, too, just put in a set of rear brake pads. I had previously bought the pads last year in anticipation, then of course couldn't find them no matter where I looked, when the time came to change them. I knew 100%, and that's exactly how it worked, as soon as I re-purchased and installed another new set, I found the first pair of pads within 5 minutes. Sigh. 😑 🤣

Not criticism, but an idea only. I would have replaced the seals in the caliper. After 70,000 miles they maybe working OK, but for how long given the new pressures involved with the new parts ? Lovely job either way. Good old sprocket and chain set, have had many of those in my time :) Further to my Blackbird 55W HID set blinking when on battery only, the main beam causes the dip to flash as does the flash switch. The guy from my dealer reckons its the current, even from a fully charged battery is not enough oomph, they work OK with the engine running. Just though I'd pass that on. Of course now, with hindsight (such a wonderful thing) I could have run two batteries in paralel to see if they would work on battery only. Schtump !

I must have an Eagle eye, as I noticed the chain adjustment right away when you were taking off the rear wheel. I first thought, Where's the chain and sprockets? Then realized, this is Delboy's Garage, it has to be in the next video :) I also noticed that a lot of the way you do things, I have been doing before I caught your channel. Like the axle and spacer trick. This can be real important on some bikes as the axle and spacers help align the discs to the calipers. Had a friend who needed help with this issue when he had the spacers in the wrong locations, and believe it or not, the wrong axle! He has 2 of the same bike, albeit, different years and the axles are slightly different lengths due to different size forks and triple clamp spacing. When he was swapping the front wheel over, he grabbed wrong axle. Helped him suss it out and taught him the same trick you mentioned. Just layout everything in order on the ground and/or put it back on the bike, depending on the task at hand.

Always good to get through the simple maintenance of bikes. I think i'm finally upgrading to a proper maintenance lift this summer!!! I fashioned my own table/ramp but even though being 18" higher than working off the ground is great, i'm still kneeling on the floor and working awkwardly way to much for my liking. Well, another great video for sure 👍😎. I love this style of MC, inline 4, more or less the UJM style that younger folks may not appreciate as much as older gents as myself. You ever have issues with the brake pad bolts stripping? (the socket head) If so, any idea of what is the best order of action for that sort of thing? outside of having it cut out etc. Luckily yours there was in decent nick. That EBC disc is lovely btw.

I have done a few videos covering that over the years... have you tried tapping a torx bit in the wrung out hole, they'll usually bite enough to get a grip on it and turn it out.... if that doesn't work, then next would be stripping the caliper into it's two halves so you can get hold of the other end of the pin with grips and turn it out that way !

Yes mate, GT85, it's a silicone based PTFE spray... doesn't just lube the rubber, also helps it keeping drying out and perishing!

Yes, the chain was corroded and fully stretched out and with the caliper, it operates just fine and doesn't need rebuilding yet... with this bike I'm just dealing with worn out consumables, servicing and a few little upgrades, it's not a restoration at this point.. I just want to ride it as we've coming in to summer now!!

You only need that if they squeak when applied.. older bikes always used to, it's been common practice for generations... but newer vehicles just don't seem to develop brake squeal.. so i only do it if i need to..!

How would you say this bike compares to XJR 1300? Which one do you prefer in terms of quality etc?

Great question Kamil, and a very popular debate, imo there are no two more similar bikes from different manufacturers in existence, they are so alike... And I 've had both, more than once!, the only difference that stands out is that I found the XJR to be a little more relaxed and somewhat more of a cruiser... with the GSX being slighly more 'aggressive' in it's power delivery and handling, but there's no doubt they are both glorious and legendary motorcycles, and I'd have another XJR tomorrow!

I would second Del's observation. I've owned the xjr1300, and ridden but not owned the Gsx 14. I actually chose the xjr over the gsx purely because its less hooligan more relaxed in its power delivery and riding position. You can still hooligan the xjr no prob but I found it suited me better. But heck the Gsx I bloody gorgeous! The cb1300 is a really good looking beast too! I love 'em all! 👍✌️❤️🤗

A very good tip on putting the axle back in place with everything in the right order, especially because life happens and you might not be reinstalling that wheel in 30 minutes like you planned. Hi buddy good to hear from you, I'm going to leave the cush drives for now, I go by a wear indiciation of 1/2" rotational freeplay in the sprocket carrier with the wheel held still... this indicates the blocks have diminished and hardened... but there's no freeplay at all in this carrier so they're good to go for a while yet... plus we're a little spent out on the Harley project and just getting the basics done on the Suzuki to get it on the road for the summer, but good call buddy! I totally agree! A well filmed video like the ones here are just a treat to watch, and so well filmed that you can just pause at will and figure out whatever may have caused you to scratch your head a moment and go to RU-vid in the first place to see if anyone out there has some help for you on your current problem. D&P have you covered, with both superb close ups as well as good spoken tips. All the fun to watch bits, like focusing on a thing for a split second longer than strictly required, then "Whoosh!"... Del has snatched it right out of its peaceful sleeping place in the tool box or off the shelf before it even knows it's in danger of being put to work! Super enjoyable content!

I' don't tend to torque the banjo bolts these days just check for leaks. 23nm isn't a lot . You didn't say what torque you personally used for rear sprocket nuts ? I had an issue years ago on my 1400 (had since 2007 now ) I went by suzuki specs and rounded a thread (102nm) ....ended up going with 60nm and loctite . Not budged since . ....plus on torquing up engine bolts recently the top 155mm bolt /nut rounded on the threads..couldn't remove it either . Drilled it out awaiting new bolt . Haynes suggested from tech department to go with 55nm and loctite. Its an m14 wheelie as the lower bolt is m16 (head) ......don't go to much into their torque specs ..I have the manual but I'm wary these days . Nice work. I came to nose lol

There are no sprocket nuts in this video mate, not sure what you mean... do you mean the disc bolts and it is critical to torque them up so they're even and hold the disc in true alignment... something I'm sure you're aware of, or perhaps not if you've stripped a few bolts, is to reduce the torque setting if it's a wet thread... some way when using wet threadlock, reduce the torque setting by as much as 25%... so with that in mind, if your bolt is oily, just from an oily dirty job, it should be considered a wet thread and reduced accordingly... it's only bone dry threads and new fasteners that can withstand the full force of the factory torque setting because that's what the threads are like when first installed at the factory, bone dry and new... it's just good mechanical practice to understand that not all specifications are rigid when the situation you're working with is variable.

@Delboy's Garage last part regarding wet bolts . It makes sense . As you say the bolts from assembly line are brand new . Lileky why first time round I had hg bolt yield and break on me ..I tapped all threads and it went successfully . Keep it up fella loke the videos however they go . Fork oil /springs /seals etc next . But mot first almost finished . Rad on this morning..1 m6 bolt not quite tightening enough . So thin gauge wite shouod help ..New rad go on in time anyway . . Bike needs my love lol take care fella

hi del handy tip i found for anyone finding it a hassle to hold up the wheels when lining up spacers and axels i got a little air bag you can pump up its for use when your putting up doors so i put that under the wheel and pump it up and i can line up the wheel easy i,m recovering from broken wrists so its a help , got them in the center isle of lidls handy

Thanks Del and Penny. I like how you go about the job. The GSX I told you about went for just under $10,000 Australian dollars. I found an original exhaust system but could not get a center stand. When I went back the bike was sold. I will have to keep looking. I cannot wait for the next edition of Delboy's Garage. Look after each other.

You could also invert the way of the rear axle from the left to the right with the nut on the brake way. This way the nut coult tight when running. As it us now its a risk of loose the nut when running.

I see your logic, but that is a bit of a myth buddy, the only time to reverse an axle is when it benefits access to loosening the nut for chain tension on bikes where the exhaust's in the way, such as Harley Sportsters.

Don't throw the old pads, just pop one in your budgie's cage & advertise 'A nice pad on the South coast, going cheep.' Give the disc to a local milliner who's willing to take on the Oddjob, & Penny could have a brimful of really cutting ideas for Ascot this year. The one good thing about BSE, it never affected us squirrels eh? Have a great w/e : )xx

Sadly I can't help with that buddy, I bought a huge job lot direct from the Bell dealership in Texas and it came with free shipping, so worked out cost effective... but I had to buy over 30L of various oils for that as stock... sadly it's always expensive when buying single litres of anything. Demon Tweeks is usually the most competitive and yes, Amsoil is pricey!

I have the exact same one in my garage and love that it is easy to clean and stands up to every chemical I throw at it.
