Suzuki V-Strom 650 Smashes the Country Lanes
The start of this video is just outside Mary Tavy near Tavistock. I went out because the sun was shining and I needed to get some miles on the bike. Took a camera and kind of made it up as I went along. So I covered a couple of small additions to the bike as I rode through Brentor to Lydford. I made a quick stop at Lydford Forest before proceeding to put Gwenen through her paces in the tight country lanes between Lydford and Portgate. She went well.

What a beautiful Idaho type of day you had.😄😄 I think your V-Strom 650 may be the ultimate bike for the zombie apocalypse. With all your hedgerows, stone and wooden fences I guess you can't go too far wrong from the roads.

We’ve had some smashing weather since I made a video complaining about the rain 🤣 Haha, I think the Himalayan makes a good apocalypse bike seeing as it’s so basic and goes all day on an eggcup of fuel. Yea of you get it wrong in the lanes it’s like pinball 🤣 Cheers FC 👍🏼

Oh another treat for me as we enjoyed a couple of weeks exactly where you're riding. We were camping at Lydford and I remember plopping into the river when my foot slipped on a rock. Not to be recommended, is that 😂 Lovely view from your riding position - the screen doesn't intrude, does it 👌

Lydford is a lovely area isn’t it!?!? Glad to bring back some memories (except the bad ones) 🤣 The screen is adjustable. It is best at the half way position but I leave it on its lowest for filming 😎 Many thanks Peter 👍🏼

I love the whine of the v twin engine. 66bhp isn't a huge amount of power but it's enough and probably feels like a rocket ship compared to the Himalayan

Yea I love the power delivery. It isn’t what I consider a fast bike (unless compared to the Himmy), but it’s no slouch either. Plenty of grunt down low and happy to rev. Cheers Epic

I love my 650 VStrom. We've clocked up about 20,000 miles together now and I can't ever see myself getting rid of it. I have a Givi screen on mine and run the top screen just a touch higher than yours. I find myself in a really nice bubble of calm air that allows me to ride with the visor up... unless it's raining. Hope your VStrom does the business in Ireland, I have ridden mine on everything from long boring motorways to tiny single tracks in Wales and Scotland and it handles them all with ease.

Thanks Neil. Words like this help my confidence. I’m sure she’ll be fine. Heard some complain about comfort so Ireland will tell on that front. How do you find it? I have found the screen best half way but I leave it down when filming. It’s funny how counter intuitive the position is. You’d think the higher the more protection, but it doesn’t work that way. We’re travelling up to and back from Fishguard on Motorways, and we’ll ride every sort of road you can think of over there. It’ll be a good test for the bike and I can’t wait. Many thanks my friend. @@Saddlebags73 I have done the same experiments with the screen when I first had mine. I found having it just a bit higher than your filming height is best for me and like you, I am a tall skinny fella. I ride in leather bike trousers and I can do 6 hours plus in the saddle without issue. A quick stretch or a short break every couple of hours keeps my neck and shoulders happy. Last summer I did a full days riding in the Cairngorms, then returned to my campsite. For reasons not worth mentioning I decided mid evening to leave the site and return home. I left Crieff at 6.30pm and got home to W-s-M at 4.00am after a steady ride home (with lots of breaks) straight down the motorway. After a good nights sleep I had no aches or pains at all and the saddle was comfy the whole time. It is one reason I cannot see me changing bikes, the 650 Strom just fits me like a glove.

I'm glad you've found yourself an ideal do it all bike ( within reason) with probably the best power to weight ratio to be practical and not too heavy. Please just be wary now that you've got a bit more grunt for the narrow lanes, locals tend to hammer on even round blind corners. I bet Twinks loved it 😊

I like Gwennan they are very good all rounders & she would have been on my list if it wasn’t for the NC750X DCT I practically purchased her on ER’s review of the model 😳😮😵 No to be fair it was a very accurate review of the newer model 👌🏻 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for him but don’t tell him! The NC is a great bike and actually one I considered. Gwenen is Cornish for Bee but I thought it also sounded Welsh. Tell Butty I’m undecided which bike to take in the social ride. If it’s nice and dry (which it will be) I’ll probably take Ernie. Butty Bach could see himself in the chrome petrol tank 🤣 Thanks you two, take care out there and have a safe trip down. Nice one, the Vstrom 650 really is a do anything bike. I still miss certain aspects of mine but I couldn't get really comfortable on a full day in the saddle plus I had a hankering for a new bike!. I'd be interested on how it fares 2 up as I never had a chance to try that myself. A good vlog as usual.

Hi Jeff, I'm pretty sure that the Bee Strom is going to be bulletproof for you. It is such a good choice for you. I'd love one for myself but I can't justify it because I never get to do any long motorcycle journeys, it would feel like overkill for my local rides. Good luck with the Ireland trip. That bike appears to give you lots of confidence on those dodgy roads. I hope it's one of those bikes you bond with. My son had an SV650. His head told him he needed something sportier but his heart loved that bike. He sold it for a GSXR which has never really endeared itself to him. All part of the journey to the "unicorn bike".

When I went from 1000cc bikes with large hp to a v strom650 I thought it would be the poor man’s choice. I did it for health reasons due to skeletal issues for something more comfy. I was gobsmacked with that engine torque and revs you can do both. It was only when I realised it made the same power as my Honda cb750 -4 in the 80s. A very fine machine with the best stock suspension for the ride of any bike I’ve ridden when the surface is gnarly. Ireland fun on the RE but the extra thrust you will enjoy. Beautiful scenery. When riding at normal speeds mine did 70+ mpg

I test ride one thinking it would be gutless. I was wrong. Such a useable motor at any revs. I is pleased as punch with her. Ireland trip will tell me how it goes for comfort, but that’s my only real concern at the moment. Cheers Volt 👍🏼

I’m loving it so far Jim. Let’s see how I feel after the Ireland jaunt. The name of the model is a bit odd if you ask me. V represents the engine configuration, which makes sense. And ‘Strom’ is German for Storm.

Watching YT on my phone, YT has changed what resolution you watch in with no ability to change quality. Vertical is 360 and horizontal it goes to 720. They are doing everything but making viewing video better. Starting to dislike YT design team
