The impact on those solid blocks of concrete is epic! I hope you've done the distance hack, crossover hack, etc? The Accountant blew me away with those. So good!

I own 2 B&W SW610 in room mid sized. Those are sealed boxes, I use them for music and home theater. I must say I am very happy and satisfied with them. Musical yet powerful enough for movies. And having two of them, makes bass clean throughout entire room. Of course there are more powerful subs, but looking at size of my room and how they perform, I seriously doubt you need anything more powerful. I love subs, I always advocate for sub, but some ported boxes are just to big for my taste.

Honestly, you are a perfect candidate to audition a pair of PB-1000 Pro's. At that price point, you can get a lot more depth. The factory rated response for those sealed subs is in the 30+ hertz range. That seems pretty shallow. They will probably produce some output all the way down to 20 hertz, but it's the relativity of it all. It should be louder at 25 hertz than 60 hertz, to match human hearing, sounding "flat". 95+% of subs go the wrong way, getting quieter as they go deeper. It's the nature of the beast. I know the ported boxes are bigger, especially deep bass. The PB-1000 Pro's are the smallest subwoofers I can confidently recommend. The difference isn't the ability to go loud, it's sounding deep. Bottomless. Balanced. Proper. If you genuinely love bass, you will be VERY happy with the performance, it's just a matter of getting used to the size. Sound wise, you wouldn't want to go back, especially if you optimize them with my Bass Hack Video Series. There are a lot of misconceptions about deep bass subwoofers. It's usually a little different than you imagine it will be. It was for me. Satisfying is the best possible way to describe it. It's worth considering.

Hello amazing review! I just got mine and they sound weak/terrible with my powered kanto tuks and kanto yu4s. But they sound amazing on my very cheap powered creative pebble 2.1 speakers. Ive tired to adjust every setting in the svs app to get them sounding good with my kanto speakers. I for the life of me cant out why they sound terrible on my kanto tuks and yu4s but amazing on my cheap creative pebble 2.1 speakers.

I currently have duel pb2000s og in my 13x12 9foot ceiling room. But your pb3000 video has convinced me to upgrade to dual pb3000s. The pb2000 has enough bass but I want more of the explosiveness that you feel. So hopefully they will be a big difference in impact. Probably November I’ll buy them.

I LOVE the PB-3000. The impact being basically the same as the PB-4000, yet being only an inch bigger than the PB-2000, and a LOT smaller and lighter than the PB-4000? The only sub I like more is the PB-16 Ultra, but that's a big step in every way. Money, weight, and size.

Looking at small subs, I'd love to hear a real review of the Cambridge Audio MINX X201 from the standpoint of using it as a travel sub with a pair of LSX 2 Wireless. It's not going to have the output of this sub but it's considerably smaller and seems interesting as a way to add some bit of bass to small standmounts.

It looks to be about an inch smaller, but with a factory response rating of 36hz, and passive radiators, I'd go with the extra inch and get down to at least 25 hertz or lower with the Micro 3000. That's going to be a BIG difference. The micro sized subs with passive radiators that I had were rated to 17 to 19 hz, but fell off around 33-40 hz. I can't imagine where a 36hz factory rated sub is going to fall off, but I imagine it would be higher than 36 hertz. Too shallow for me.

Thank You! I need your help, i am stuck, i have no idea what i am doing, so a friend told me to buy Cambridge AXR100, Indiana Line - NOTA 550 X and Cambridge Audio - SX120, i am not an audiophile, and i have 0 experience in audio systems. This friend didn't tell me that, the room is very important, and i have 48m2, and the subwoofer that has only 70w is to weak for this room. You advice me to buy another SX120 or SVS SB-1000, my budget is only 500$. Much to appreciated, for your work and passion that you put in this videos!

I'd love to hear a conversation about how bass guitar cabinets are almost all ported but people claim sealed subs are more musical. I love my SB2000 but it doesn't sound quite right with bass guitar and I've never heard anyone talk about the contrast between bass guitar speaker cabinets and sealed subs. Sealed subs don't sound natural to me after having played bass and owning a bunch of bass cabinets (all ported). Also, would you recommend 2 PB3000 pros or 3 PB2000 pros (or even 4) in general. Thanks in advance.

Funny, you're touching on my upcoming video. The answer to your question is to go with 2 PB-3000 instead of 3 or 4 PB-2000 Pro's. The reason? The way to increase explosiveness in bass is with more power, not more subs, assuming you're starting with 2 subs. Going from 1 sub to 2 matching subs definitely increases impact. I've had this exact same experience. I had 4 PB-2000s, and the smoothness was a little better, but the impact was basically the same. 2 PB-3000's were definitely more explosive than 4 PB-2000's. Undeniably. It's also weird, but if you mix subwoofers (bad idea), the impact favors the weaker sub. The weaker, less powerful subwoofer robs the benefit of the added power of the better sub. Strange thing that I didn't expect, but I definitely experienced it. I agree with you on ported vs sealed. They tend to have different response slopes measured in room. Whether it's the response slope, or the nature of the sound itself, I agree that ported does sound more natural. I hope to explore sealed subs again, and make some changes to the slope to reduce relative infrasonics. For now, ported subs are my favorite by a mile.

Those drivers were made different for the sealed version, to optimize the sealed dynamics, rather than just using the same driver in both sealed and ported. They really are impressively designed.

You're not alone. I lurk some forums from time to time, and I see people talking about bass causing headaches. Typically, sealed subs are involved. It could be a pressure thing, or an infrasonics thing, but I have a problem with it for sure. I hope to explore it more soon.

How would you rate the Micro vs the bigger ported subs if your primary goal is music fidelity and HT was an afterthought? I just ordered my Micro today, but I only have recent experience with a couple other subs - a Sonos Gen3 and briefly, a SVS Sb-1000 Pro ... I actually preferred the Sonos for music -- which seemed tighter, more controlled and "musical" but it may have been all the built in room correction and crossovers that made the difference. I'm currently putting together a new 2.1 system, focused on getting the highest musical fidelity out of a minimal space footprint. Picked KEF q150s as my bookshelf speakers, driven by the tiny but powerful Fosi ZA3 amp - and the Micro 3000.

The ported subs have more oomph, more headroom, and more explosiveness by default. It's funny you bring this up now because a few days ago I really found out what the Micro is capable of. It's easy to miss, but I run the gain around -7, where I was running it at -13 to -14. There's a lot more to it, like how you integrate it, crossovers, room correction, and EQ adjustments, but fundamentally the accuracy has always been on point. My biggest mistake was breaking my own rule, and only experiencing it as a single. Matching dual subwoofers makes a big difference in the perception of accuracy. Every SVS sub is extremely accurate, but any subwoofer, regardless of brand, is going to sound less accurate and tight as a single, where the same sub with an additional, identical subwoofer, will sound tighter, more accurate and more correct. The perfect subwoofer will sound less than ideal as a single. Try riding a unicycle, then try a bicycle. 2 wheels are sooo much better than one. An over simplified analogy, but I can't legitimately get a solid impression of any subwoofer unless it's a pair of identical subs. I screwed up with the Micro and plan to revisit it. If you have the Micro and you like it, I would grab another. Musically, it's a very accurate sub. I prefer ported, but I underestimated the Micro.

@@Subwoofer101 I’m running at -14 or so, since its a bit overwhelming at higher gain with certain genres of bass heavy music - seemed like a decent middle ground that works well with the widest variety of music. I’ll still be experimenting with different settings, especially when I get a MiniDSP for some bass management. I love this powerful little box so far. Though I haven’t gotten it to blend quite as seamlessly with my KEF q150s like my SB-1000 integrated with my previous q350s. Maybe because the 350s extended lower, but the bass sounded like it came from L/R, while now it sounds more like its coming more from the ghost center. I’ve never heard a 2 sub setup but I’ll probably pick up #2 secondhand once I get my Kef R3 fronts. I’m sure multis + a highpassed L:R help it blend better

I'm a newbie to home theater and what you are stating in this vlog. I have a question...in ported subs the air or pressure is obviously pushed through the port. Where does the air pressure go in an unported sub? There must be a tremendous amount of pressure. Enjoy your vlogs!
@Subwoofer101
@Subwoofer101 8 месяцев назад
Welcome! My channel is intentionally newbie friendly. No bad questions. In a sealed box, there is no pressure relief at all. Constant pressure and vacuum with each cycle of the driver going in and out. That's why the driver needs more power than a ported sub to get the same output. I've theorized that it could be the slight differences in pressure in the room that affects some people, the same way rolling down 1 window in your car at 70mph causes buffeting, or changes in altitude. The Micro 3000 sub adds a wrinkle to that logic, since it doesn't bother me. It might be higher infrasonics, the bass so low that you can't hear it. Sealed subs tend to go deeper than ported, yet not always "sounding deeper", which has to do with the response slope. So 2 subs that are similar, the sealed will typically have more of that infrasonic bass. I've had ported subs that had deeper response, higher in the infrasonic bass than the audible bass, and I found that uncomfortable as well. So who knows, and I intend to find out. Thank you for watching, and check out my Bass Hack Video Series, it should be helpful too.

Why are you comparing a "Micro" sub that is obviously made for people who have to compromise because of room space with "Dual 1000's"? It's just silly.
@Subwoofer101
@Subwoofer101 5 месяцев назад
I understand that it might be obvious to you, but it doesn't mean it's obvious to everyone. My channel is geared towards people who are new, or maybe just don't have time to immerse themselves in the audio hobby. I try to keep everything approachable and welcoming. The audio community at large has an unfortunate reputation for being less than kind to those who might not be well versed. I'm doing what I can to turn that opinion around. I know that if I was under the impression that I could have PB-1000 Pro performance in a Micro subwoofer, I'd definitely go for it. I felt that it was important to explain that it just isn't the case.
