People don't really know how unique this is. They have been showing of historic flights at several occasions. To have SK60, J21R, Tunnan, Lansen, Draken, Viggen and Gripen flying at the same time is truly an event. It's over 70 years of jet-fighter aviation history in the air at the same time.
Is the models you list there listed by planes taking off? It would be great if someone could write a comment with timestamps for each model. I'm a fan of Swedish fighter jets, but I'm not that good at recognizing the older models. Greetings from Norway. 🙂
Totally agree with you. The Draken still looks futuristic to me, that double delta was brilliant. SAAB’s designs are always a bit different but they always look “right”.
OMG...that Kite....that Kite (Draken). Still one of the most beautiful jets ever build, and it still blows me to think that this was released back in the 50's..!! Proud of being a Scandinavian. Cheers from Denmark
Sweden is a country that invents and makes a lot of technologies. Not many other countries of similiar population creates cars, airplanes, mobile networks and software like they do.
And more important: Sweden is a small country, with less than 10 million inhabitants, but very clever ones. They make their own high tech jet fighters and other airplanes, high tech naval vessels, high tech electronics (cellphones, audio equipment, etc), high tech cars (Volvo, Saab), the best blue water yachts... and everything you will ever need and with the best quality... And all that with less than 10 million people. The USA need more people than that just to find a name for a future fighter project!
+Vilma Vallejos G'day, Yeah, I was thinking a lot of that, comparing it with us here in Oz...; in 1945 we were all set to produce an indigenous Fighter called the CA-5, but successive Governments decreed that we be Unkle Spam's pet Attack-Trained Chiahuahua, and therefore our Defence Department bought (initially) NATO Equipment (Belgian FN-SLRs, Mirage Fighters, German Leopard Tanks etc), and then almost exclusively AmeriKan everything... ; and whereas once we had a Manufacturing Industry, now we're China's Farm, Quarry & Mine-Site... Apparently, after Australia helps Tronald Dump to lose AmeriKa's next Asian War..., Australia will be a Chinese Colony for the next 1,000 years....; which is why the 2nd most-spoken Language in Australian Homes - behind English - is Mandarin..., according to the findings of the last two Census Surveys...(!). Well Done, Sweden ! Good Luck with Global Warming, we'll all need it. ;-p Ciao !
Not to mention the Australian PM (iirc) calling Swedish subs "ol' 1980's technology". Let's ask the people on USS Ronald Reagan how they felt when the HMS Gotland "sunk" her during drills, and the US Navy didn't manage to find Gotland during two full years of drills. nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/swedens-super-stealth-submarines-are-so-lethal-they-sank-us-18383
The sound of the Swedish single engine jets are amazing! I remember the Lansen, Draken and Viggen lowflying almost every week over Stockholm in the mid 80's as a kid, with that special "crackling" sound of the engines.
@@erikhjortsater5461 No, the format of the names of the jets followed a definite article format. Draken, not Drake, Gripen, not Grip and Lansen, not Lans.
@@Zabiru- yes that is true but that actually changes in plural cuz people say drakar viggar lansar och tunnor so if there is one then you don't change the en but if there is multiple then you do.
Quite an accomplishment there. Not only capable of building fine jet fighter aircrafts on their own but also keep them flying long after their retirement. As you can see they don't just present them on CAVOK days but they are not afraid of flying them on bad weather days. Respect to them. How many nations are able to do this ? Not many.
The howl of the Draken from the front reminds a lot of the Vulcan. But then the growl from behind the airplane, when it soars past. Living in Sweden, especially only a few kilometers (1.5km to be exact) from a "Flygflottilj", now defunct; air traffic school instead--growing up and to this date, it's amazing when the Draken comes to visit. You know that it's the Draken even before it's in the range of your sight. I think I had a pretty good childhood, my father was a captain in the Air Force and so when I was a young buck, he'd take me there instead of kindergarten. I used to sit outside of the barracks and watch the planes take off and land. This is my most clear memory from my childhood.
....I had the chance as a Air Trafic Controller in the Swiss Army .... to fly as a Observer in the DH115 .... nice to see and hear .... thank You very much !! kind regards from Swirzerland !!!
Sweden. So much great innovation in aerospace, the Draken is my favorite and I have to say the Viggen is a close second for me. The Viggen was the only aircraft that has achieved radar locks on the SR71 Blackbird. Greetings from New Zealand. PS: New Zealand needs the Gripen.
Didnt know tunnans still flew...odd jet but was saabs one of a few first jets....lovely thing...Draaken...what can you say...awesome thing...really good clear hd video...thanks Jesper here in UK tahts what I love to see at our airshows...all the old stuff thats not in service....like old RAF Fgr2 Phantoms etc...
Great, bad weather and stil these wonderfull and sexy images! Gives hope for an airshow I'm planning if going with a weather forecast similar as the one in this clip. Great clip, thanks!
Vincent Vega ; Viggen managed to land on hard frozen motorways near the arctic circle which were so slippery even cars had serious trouble driving on them. The reverse engines made traditional brakes more or less obsolete.
Only 10 million Swedes defending their country. Still manage to create very potent aircraft. Very impressive indeed! And you still keep these beauties flying!
Well here is a list with some images, the only one I found so far: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_Air_Force_Historic_Flight You can click on for further details. I am particularly impressed by the Draken and Viggen.
Raw power, designed for speed and aggression. Made for their mission and nothing else (unlike today's multi/omnirole fighters). There's a kind of beauty behind all that.
The twin-boom aircraft... the engine air intakes in the wing roots suggest that it's a Dehavilland Vampire; the J21R's intakes are bigger and further back on the fuselage, and over all the J21R a larger aircraft. Can anyone check me on this? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_21R Cheers!
Nice video! What was the plane after the Viggen? I also didn't know the second I would suggest to improve the quality of this video, showing the designation of each plane when they show up. That would be very useful. The Draken is my favorite :)
That's the SAAB 105, known in the Swedish Air Force as the SK 60. It's the swedish air forces trainer aircraft, it's fairly unique in the way that the Swedish Air Force doesn't use propeller trainer aircraft anymore, we go straight to the jet trainer, even with completely novice pilots. :-)
Can i hear the clapping hands sound in inflight? Vampires were also in Finlands use. Only armament were 4x 20 mm cannons. No rockets or missiles then also. See also to the J32 Lansens nose and ya can see the gun armament then.
we still have a very good air force, we just need to build 600 more jas gripen if thats possible, i mean we had like 600 (tunnan) back in the day , its not impossible
All Swedish military jets feel sofisticated in some way exept Viggen. Viggen started out with the bigest engine they could get away with then straped some wings and a cocpit on it and called it a fighter jet.
Viggen (lightning) is one of the only plans that have made the change to lock the radar on the SR-71. The Sr71 was flying over the the northern part of Sweden and they did it so many times that the Swedes know their track.
Actually the British Electric Lightning was also able to briefly sustain radar lock on the the SR-71 as well and they would "play games" with the the Blackbird crews when they would depart and return to the RAF bases in Scotland.
ISP: There's a world of difference between achieving radar lock and actually shooting an SR71 down. The SR71 had a top speed of Mach 3.3 while most Air to Air missiles of the day were slower, so launch all the missiles you want, you're simply wasting tax payer's dollars. Yes, later versions of missiles such as the AIM 7, which the Viggen carried were faster than the SR71 but would run out of propellant before knocking the SR71 down. The only aircraft that might have had a chance to shoot one down is the MiG 31 armed with the R33 missile but, of course we'll never know for sure.
FR: Using facts and logic somehow makes one butthurt? Maybe in your small world but elsewhere adults can have mature conversations without acting like spoiled kindergartners when someone disagrees with them.
FR: Every aircraft has an absolute top speed, why don't you stay off social media until you get an education son. In fact let's start your education now, why don't we? The only time Viggens caught up to the SR71 from behind is when the SR71 was flying on one engine to save fuel. You'd know that if you were educated and weren't an angry little twerp. In any event, you've got bigger problems in Sweden than bragging about catching up to an SR71 on one engine, how about Sweden becoming the 'Rape Capitol of Europe'? Doesn't it bother you that your women are being raped every day by Muslim immigrants? Why don't you grow a pair of testicles and protect your women instead of annoying adults on the internet?
Let's see, I've been to Canada, The United States, Mexico, England, Germany, Israel, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and a bunch of other countries I've forgotten. I remember seeing an impressive bridge near Vijle in Denmark. My wife and I are going to the the Paris Airshow in June 2019......it was either that or Japan but my nephew works for SNECMA and we decided to meet him in Paris. Perhaps I'll bump into you in Paris....if your parents let you go.
I would love to have been there. I miss Viggens but I haven't seen a Lansen or a Tunnan in the air. I once went out with a girl who was Tunnan - shaped but that's a whole different story....
Lansen lovely jet, cross between hunter and f100...love the old engine sounds...ab is ok but you cant beat ordinary turbine engines sound, also the viggen unpainted aluminuim looks far better
When I was a child I often saw the Draken from the Danish Air Force flying over. Later I learned what a remarkably technical achievement the plane was, considering it flew as early as 1955. The swedes made this investment to make it not worth the trouble to the Soviet Union to attack Sweden. I'm sorry that Denmark today is pushed into buying fighter planes in US, actually I'm sorry that we need such planes at all, even though such machinery fascinates me.
People sometimes ask me why i would go to airshows to look at machines of war, and i often reply that i don't, i go to airshows to admire the great technical achievements that are modern aircraft. :-)
Tack för att du ladda upp detta, gärna fler sådana om möjligheten finns.. :) Kanske ingen kul väder att filma i, men det gav oss som tittar på YT en go upplevelse. ;)
