Isn’t it so cool?! I have a Swedish ivy propagation from my great grandma’s original plant and I’ve had it since I was a child! It’s grown really big so thanks for the tutorial! Definitely gonna have to take some cuttings and make a cute little plant!

I love that!! Generational plants are the best! The oldest plant I have is from when I was born - GREAT GRANDMA??!? That's incredible!!

How wonderful! In the 60s, I had a roommate in college who brought along a cutting of her grandma’s jade plant for our shared dorm room! It was a great choice, because our growing conditions were certainly not optimum anywhere in that room! I cannot remember EVER seeing her water or do anything else to care for it!

Great idea, but I don’t think I could bring myself to cut up anything so (potentially) beautiful-maybe if they were already damaged or discolored, though.

I've just watched several videos and yours was my favorite! I don't have a green thumb but I recently propagated a creeping charlie and then potted it. I did not know what I was doing and it isn't dead but it could be healthier. Anyway, your video has encouraged me not to throw in the towel! ha! Thank you!

I actually found mine at the Roseaurs Grocery store in Ridgefield, WA, in their floral department last week! I couldn’t believe it, so I excitedly snapped it up!! It’s in a 6” hanging pot for $13.99, and I thought it was a steal! Maybe they are coming back into vogue?! As a tip for others, it came from Spokane Plant Farm, and when I checked for care instructions on their website as the tag directed, I discovered they have a HUGE & impressively beautiful operation that includes plant sales, sales of cuttings, lots of care and propagation videos, and beautiful pots and accessories for plant lovers!

I use a coffee filter in the bottom of all my pots to keep the soil in. They are generally a perfect fit and truly inexpensive. I pick up the 150-200 pack at the Dollar Tree. Also putting them directly in the dirt to propagate greatly reduces the stress on the plant.
@msnetz45
@msnetz45 9 месяцев назад
So, Swedish Ivy will propagate directly from cuttings? Do I need to use rooting hormone?
@msnetz45
@msnetz45 9 месяцев назад
Also, great idea to use cheap coffee filters! Hope they are chemical-free, though.

Thanks for the tips! I’m trying out propagating Purple Swedish Ivy today for the first time. You mentioned your original plant is outside, but I don’t know where you’re located. I’d love to put mine out, but I live in the Pacific Northwest. Is that safe to do? I’d bring it in if frost is predicted, but what about dampness in our rainy winters, and hot weather in summer?

Hi! I wouldn't put it in direct sun for very long. My indoor gets about an hour or two of direct sun at the end of the day, which is fine, but full sun would scorch it. I have one outside that gets too much sun and it is NOT happy with me.

Hi Rosetta, thanks for the video! What would happen if you left the ivy in water permanently? Would that stunt its growth/otherwise make it unhealthy? I know you can permanently root other hardy plants like pothos in water, but unsure how it would affect the swedish ivy.
@rosettagrows3315
@rosettagrows3315 3 года назад
I am pretty sure it would be similar to the pothos and keep developing water roots. I haven't done it though! It's worth experimenting!

TrainWithDoctorTara hi Tara! Yes, I think it’ll be fine. They are so flexible! If they are right in the window they are likely going to be ok. If you are worried about it, you can always rotate them in a brighter location for a couple days to “recharge” them.

Some of the leaves on my swedish ivy are beginning to yellow :/ it gets medium indirect light and I let it dry out between waterings. Do you have any tips for what I could be doing wrong? Thanks!
@rosettagrows3315
