This is a video of my pool which I am currently repairing. It had a lot of deck sheer and spalling of the bond beam. Not having caulking between the pool deck and the coping caused water to run in behind the coping and down and into the top of the bond beam concrete which absorbed the water and then froze and spalled the bondbeam concrete. Also there is very little room for concrete expansion of the pool deck. Some places there is a very small gap and some places it touches the back of the pool coping. Should I cut the gap bigger? Should I use rebar to prevent this happening again? What is causing my plaster to look like this as well?

besides the silicone, is there any kind of bond breaker material you had to place between the coping and the deck?

@@tiredfingers99 Ah okay. I am thinking about tackling some of this very type of work. Unfortunately I am not made of money so will have to resort to some DIY.

@@davileett1224 no it doesnt cost a lot of money, just a lot of your labor. At a minimum youll have to buy an angle grinder and a hammer drill and some diamond grinder disks to remove all the loose material and grind flat the concrete from the bottom of the coping. I like the bosch tools. Then youll need to buy the Hydro ban to seal up the bond beam after you fix the concrete. Biggest problem im having is bending the smallest rebar into staple shapes to help hold the new concrete to the old. You will have to drill into the existing concrete and use an epoxy to hold the rebar in. Ill do a video of this. Why dont you do a video of your pool?

You have to let the pool fill with water in the winter so ice doest form under the shell and lift the whole pool up out of the ground.

@@tiredfingers99 Thanks for your response. I actually just pulled up all the coping on my pool today. Seems the bond beam has a decent amount of damage in some places. May be taking up to 6+ inches down in some spots. Will be interesting to see the rebar damage if there is any in my pool. I have yet to take the material down below the coping stones, and I am afraid that I may go crazy and take too much out. Any advice on that? As far as you needing to bend the rebar into a staple shape, why not cut 4-6" straight pieces, drill a hole and glue those in, then just simple tie a straight bar cut to length with rebar ties to those new legs?
