I had a similar situation with loss of signal while flying my UMX ULTRIX. Talked to tech support and Horizon sent me a free new receiver. I installed it and had no issues since.

I have and fly 2 of these gliders both with out radio problems. By the way there are two wire antennas, one goes forward the other toward the tail. Found this out when replacing a broken fuselage. Now. off subject, if you guys don’t like Spectrum don’t buy it, easy.

Well, this was my very 1st spektrum product. Unfortunately, it had issues. Also, they oriented both antennas in the same direction when obviously they should have had a 90 degree offset. I was disappointed that the most expensive receiver I've ever had was bad. It's not that I'm against spektrum products, it's that when I have problems with the 1st one I buy I won't be buying any more of them. That goes for non-spektrum products as well. Yep! That's Easy ;-) See you in the Air!

I'm surprised the wings stay on with that much power. Nice. Too bad you can't sneak out there at night and bulldoze or scrape a private runway ;-) As far as contact issues go, be sure to hold the radio with the antenna pointed straight up and the back of the transmitter facing the plane, due to the donut-shaped radiation patterns of typical monopole antennae. Pointing the top of the antenna straight at the plane gives the weakest signal. I myself have a habit of holding the TX down low and almost horizontal, but my DX6i has a pivoting antenna that can be tilted straight up when the TX is held that way. I don't know if that applies here, but something to think about. Happy flying!

Yep! That's exactly how my have my TX antenna set and I always rotate my body so the back of the TX is pointed toward the plane. Very strange and this is the only plane where I've had a comm issue. I never had any RF Signal warnings the whole time I was flying until I lost contact when landing and then received the warning. Hum...that was a bit late ;-) See you in the Air!

See also the 1st (Bruno Porto's) comment in the video I linked for the more accurate way of doing it.. I'm in the process of converting all my fleet to crossfire.... not cheap but I know I'll never have any failsafe issues ever again... lower latency and miles of range thanks to 900mhz and LORA.

My Spektrum experience has been woeful, not a fan and way overpriced down here. Maybe the added carbon rods mixed with the spar could be related to Rx reception? Awesome flying, the vertical rolls into the top out stall flip thingy had Me drooling! Great show GCRC. Have a great weekend.

Hi Oz! I was wrong regarding the single antenna. I could not see the 2nd antenna until this crash tore off the panel under the RX. The 2nd antenna was positioned the same way, along the side of the RX. I have that one pointing 90 deg. offset from the other antenna. It seems very poor antenna placement from the factory. Hi there, I enjoy very much your flight. I don`t know but I have not so much 2.4GHz radio experience because I usally used old style 72Mhz band. I guess there is some hugh high vertical antenna near your location. I worry about might be crash possibly and might be some radio interference from the antenna. Another try is better far from the antenna I guess.
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 7 месяцев назад
Thank You! Yes, that big tower is cellular I believe as it's not putting out anything in the 2.4ghz range. I found the issue to be the DSMX Protocol after having the same issue with a couple of other planes. I switched the Protocol to DSM2 and the problems went away. I'll be buying something other than DSM2/DSMX Receivers on down the road.

Try a new receiver. I run a FlySky system and had a similar problem until I moved the antenna outside, up under the wing. Problem solved! Would like to run a gyro, but there is on room to stuff on in there.
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC Год назад
Hi Dan! I moved the antenna outside the fuselage as well thinking that was most likely the problem but I still had radio issues. It seems the problem is related to the DSMX Protocol. I had the same problem with (2) other planes and moved them to DSM2 rather than DSMX and that solved my problems. I'm going to try that with the EVO and see if that also solves it's problem. If not, it's going to be a Radiolink Byme-A Gyro and WFly RF201S SBUS Receiver. That's seems to be a great combination.

Good video, I have a Conscendo Evolution and absolutely love this sport glider. My antenna wire is coming out of the bottom louvre, that is were the manufacture installed it and I have no issues. But, let me ask you a question, did you do an 8 point range test (moving the aircraft 45 degrees 8x at the required distance, then retesting at each 45 degree position) test prior to first flight? It is amazing how many time I found a receiver position fail at one of those 45 degree point or you will see were the weakest receiver position is to the transmitter. Good luck…. JT
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 2 года назад
Hi John! It's and awesome glider! I did perform a standard range test but not an 8x position test. I have approx. 12-15 flights on this glider and performing aerobatics it has been in every profile to TX possible. I've never had an issue until the last couple of flights and it's never been crashed. Just to be on the safe side I'm going to replace the stock RX with a RadioLink Byme-A Gyro and SBUS RX. I've used that setup in several planes without issue. I'd sure hate to lose it because of an unreliable RX. See you in the Air!

This is weird. I have never had a lost signal with my Conscendo (or several other E-Flite models) in literally hundreds of flights. Lately I have GPS telemetry that gives me distance from the launch point. I have had it out to 800-900 feet and no issues. I am running the OEM AR637TA with no antenna mods, GPS and altimeter/variometer modules. Transmitter antenna issue? Just lately I have replaced all my non-AR637 receivers with the AR637T. Love that receiver! But you do have to know how to position and program it.
@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 2 года назад
Well, we all get bad ones from time to time. It's sad that my 1st and only Spektrum Receiver was a dud. It's by far the most expensive Receiver I've ever owned. No Transmitter issues as I fly all of my planes with the same TX and have put several flights on my new Volantex PhoenixS with no issues. I even tractor around the same way in the same location at the same altitude and distance for landing. The RX antennas were at the factory position when I received the 1st signal warning. Bringing the antennas outside the fuselage with 90 degree offset didn't help. Not a single issued on my $16.99 RadioMaster SBUS Receiver on the PhoenixS ;-) I also had my Arrows Viper EDF Jet out this morning with the same TX, no issue. It has a $16.99 LemonRX Receiver in it ;-) Most of my Receiver are DSM2/DSMX, so I know it's not a protocol issue either. I'm going to replace the stock RX with a RadioLink Byme-A Gyro and another RadioMaster SBUS RX just like I have in the PhoenixS. So Hoosier, where are you located as I grew up in Indiana ;-) Awesome State and I miss it.

This is still my fav bird G.C... It has such a great blend of speed, power, aerobatic ability and gracefulness IMO. I love how they fly.. Do you have a pecking order for your fleet? I'll need to check back your videos to see if you ever did one for that subject... seems to ring a bell... if not I'd love to hear what your pecking order is

@GroundControlRC 2 года назад
Hi Paul! This is definitely my favorite Sport Glider of the (3) I've flown as it's so aerobatic and has such great power. Flies like it's on rails and so darn stable and graceful. I don't know if I have a favorite plane as I like to fly all types of planes. This one if one of my exceptional flying aircraft that I would not part with ;-) I'm going to replace that RX though before I take it back out as I don't want it destroyed. I'm going to install a RadioLink Byme-A Gyro and an SBUS RX. The same setup I've tested on other planes that works extremely well.

@GroundControlRC
@GroundControlRC 2 года назад
You're correct! I could not even see the 2nd antenna until this minor crash ripped off the cover on the bottom of the fuselage. What I don't understand is why they had both antennas running parallel to each other right along side the receiver. Surely they knew this would block signal. Even after routing the antennas outside the fuselage with a 90 degree offset from each other I was still getting RSSI warnings. Time to replace the gyro and receiver. See you in the Air!
