For real, it's difficult for them to see now but all it does is set an exponentially-scaling precedent of "acceptable behaviours", which seems reasonable until they start changing what's acceptable before you have a chance to adjust to the previous "norm". People who felt they had reasonable, rational and fair beliefs are suddenly "cancelled" for minor perceived sleights. It acts as *the* moral authority - the only one that has any legitimacy, in their view. I think the abstraction of values away from fundamentals is partly to blame here. Honesty, integrity, gratitude, hard work - these are core values. Everything else is downstream of these concepts. You're not a particularly virtuous person simply for having certain ideological beliefs.
