Hi Julie...my mom passed on February 1st this year from alzheimers.....she was put into hospice care in late January. After listening to ur videos I was able to stay with my mom until she passed away in my arms. She took her last breath and she was calm and peaceful. I was less scared....and I was more emotionally prepared to deal with this. As much as I miss her....I'm glad I did a DNR on her. I let nature/God take its course. Watching her pass. was peaceful, and she looked beautiful. I miss her so much. Thank u Julie ❤❤

So sorry for such a huge loss. I love hospice. They were around the last month of my grandads life. I stayed with him 24 hours a day except for necessities 😊. I talked to him, I sang to him, talked about my grandma who had I had watch him take care of til she passed. On the last day my sister told me that I needed to go outside because a friend had brought us dinner and I was being rude. When I left for 10 minutes, my grandad had passed without me there with him. I was so upset. I was mad at him!! I didn’t want him to pass alone!! He was 100, had a great life, married to my grandma for 68 years. I’m not mad anymore,this happened in 2013. I just never understood why he waited. He was my hero. I had the pleasure of taking care of him from his age 97 to 99. God bless you, just thought I’d share. 😊❤️🙏

I had jaundice and discovered that my gall bladder was infected and that had infected my liver. My gall bladder was removed and I am ok.

Find a doctor that does. You know yourself. Stick with that and find someone who believes you.

I agree with @AntiPrincess0. In addition, research online your symptoms on websites like WebMD. Have an idea of what you have when you speak to your doctor. Then, if they think it’s something else, ask them why they think that. Make them go into detail about the symptoms. Any good doctor will explain their reasoning based on your symptoms and their case experience/knowledge. If they get offended, then run because they probably don’t know what they’re doing. P.S. My mom was a nurse and my dad was a doctor and they were the first ones to tell us that not all doctors know what they are doing. But when you find one that is confident enough in their knowledge to let you challenge them, then they have a keeper and for god’s sake, follow that doctor’s orders! Good luck and God bless.

Excellent advice Julie! My husband was told his scope showed no signs of cancer and suggested he needed to take breaks from his computer and stretch. He lost weight, a lot of weight. Still insisting he was fine, i took him to specialist who found stomach cancer on the outside of his stomach (iron stomach) - it was devasting. He lasted a few months. 17 years later I still cry for him.

Oh dear, I'm sorry. This happened to me, too. My husband was healthy, then had leg swelling. He was told to wear compression Sox and not work so hard. Months later, a simple chest Xray revealed a large mass pressing on his heart. Clearly why his legs swelled. He died 5 Mos later of GIST. I WAS SHATTERED. And still am. Just like you.

I have a friend with bile duct cancer. She is only 41, and she had all these symptoms except for cough (another friend had that when her breast cancer metasticized to her lungs; she passed away a few months later, at 43 years old). Definitely don't ignore these. If you can, please also pray for my friend. She has a husband and a four year old daughter. They all need it!❤

I developed strange GI symptoms when I was 29 (2019). I was practically sleeping in the bathroom because of insane diarrhea. I had a colonoscopy-- they removed some polyps. My GI stated that because of my age, they were of no concern. Two weeks later, I received a call from his nurse saying they were precancerous (tubulovillous adenomas). My GI was stunned. As it turns out, those weren't the cause of my symptoms. I very quickly developed POTS/dysautonomia, gastroparesis, and a ton of other strange symptoms. My colon completely quit working in 2020 and was removed in 2021, after testing proved I have a lot of nerve issues. It's worth saying-- if you have symptoms, get it checked out, REGARDLESS of age. Never let anyone invalidate the way you feel, or your symptoms. You know your body better than anyone.

Just one idea. Because of a bunch of symptoms like yours, I was dx’d with mitochondrial myopathy. There is no cure, but you can take supplements, one is by Rx. Progression is usually slow, but can be the opposite. Varies from person to person. 99.9% is inherited from the mother’s side. Good luck. You have been through so much. I had friends online ( AdultMito) who had exact situation as yours. Colon removal. Gastroparesis. Seizures. Migraines. Some appeared to have no relationship whatsoever. If your Mom, her Mom, even aunts on female side. I had a first cousin who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, but docs in NYC said it was mitochondrial encephalomyopathy. Please forgive me if I am intruding. I wish you the best of luck. God bless.❤🙏

One more fact. The mitochondria are the power plants of the cells. They are organelles and are shaped a bit like cotton candy, with all of these folds with many membranes. Red blood cells don’t have mitochondria, from hundreds to thousands. Their goal is to to produce energy, adenosine tri- phosphate or ATP. So, an energy crisis develops, causing less activity in the colon, e.g. in muscles. Hearing. Of course, you can tire easily. All days are usually not the same. Lactic acidosis. Rhabdomyolisys. That almost killed me in 2016, a year to the day that my beloved husband died in the same hospital. I don’t know why the Lord wants me here, but he does.

@@tonic.1917 Some neurologists don’t even know that much, and some feel threatened if you show up with info. I had to kiss a lot of 🐸. I think you can go to an MDA Clinic without a referral, I may be wrong. This was in 1998. There are usually good docs there. A biopsy is always scheduled, from a muscle, in arm or leg. Pick a clinic at a major teaching hospital. East Podunk, not a good choice. Good residents are curious. A doctor friend says, “ After 40, many docs just coast “ Best of luck. If you don’t mind, please keep me posted. You are living with such dreadful conditions. There is a non-profit, the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. You can find out a lot there. They are very helpful on the phone.They are located in Pittsburgh.

Yep. I had unexplained weight loss at 35. It was ulcerative colitis. Not fatal but serious. Forty years later with care it is in remission so no meds and no pain. Can't be luckier than that. Early detection..yes.

My dad started with an on and off cough for about 2 months and he was just taking cough medicine until it became persistent. He asked me to get an appointment to see his doctor bec he felt very tired and had hard time breathing. He peacefully passed in the ICU in 2 months after being diagnosed with tuberculosis and stage 4 lung cancer at the same time. I totally agree with Nurse Julie if we experience symptoms see a doctor so it can be addressed right away

I had a friend/coworker who was the nicest person you'd ever meet. She started losing weight unexpectedly so she went to the doctor. I feel that because she was overweight that they didn't take it seriously. She kept losing weight and rapidly lost half her weight. She was at the doctors (again) when the new to her doctor asked if they did a blood test. No, they hadn't done one yet, so he did it and got the results while she was in the office (office was at the hospital), She told me that the doc came back in the office and walked her across the hall to the oncologist. She had bone cancer and died within weeks. If that first doc had just heard her and followed up with labs she might still be alive today.

That’s a shame!!! 😢💔 Doctors don’t care, we’re run in & out like cattle, they don’t listen to the patient’s concerns, & talk over them. Who knows your body, what you feel, better than you do, but they think they know better than you. Welcome to my world!!! My doctors mentioned Hospice to me several times, I refused for a while, finally gave in because I was suffering, lost more than half my body weight in a very short time, weak & had no strength to the point I began falling; several times extremely hard falls, & eventually became bedridden. I found out today by my Hospice nurse that since my oxygen level returned to normal, that they were discharging me in 30 days! Now, I’m too weak to repeat the process of finding new doctors, because after listening to them & getting on hospice care; my doctors released me & refuse to take me back as their patient! I’m too weak to go through tests that I physically cannot handle,to get a proper diagnosis of what is going on inside my body & getting the small amount of medication because of the DEA; it’s a nightmare!! I have never felt so helpless in my life. I’m 70 years old & suffer 24/7 & was in Pain Management for 28 years, & if it wasn’t for Jesus; I would have already died!! I’m so sorry about your friend. I pray she didn’t suffer. I also learned that if a hospice patient doesn’t die in ‘their’ timeframe; they don’t need hospice & with me being on oxygen day & night my level is going to be normal. Along with internal problems, & my entire spine, neck & shoulders being fractured & broken that hospice doesn’t view that as a hospice issue, I was also diagnosed with COPD, but since I went down completely, I started using the oxygen pretty much constantly as they told me to do, so since my level is better; they’re going to toss me out! They don’t consider acute chronic pain as a necessary reason for them to help me! Take care of yourself, Love & Prayers, Sister Patricia 💓👏🙌🕊🌷

Oh, Julie, you have been so helpful these past few months.. I wish I would have found you earlier. My mom passed on the 27th of November from complications of pancreatic cancer we didn't see coming, except for the unexplained weight loss, and... ... Gastro things! She couldn't go to the bathroom and that was NOT normal for her. Be aware of your normal, people! Colonoscopies are SO important!! One this summer could have saved her. You're doing such important work. Thank you, Miss Julie.

I hate to say to you this, but it might have saved her -- or, it might not have. There's always the "Wishing This, Wishing That", but what has happened, did happen and nothing going back. For me, I lost my Mom over Christmas, and I wish that I would have taken her when she said she had a stomach pain. But, I suspected it was her eating too much of a cake, because she was diabetic and would do that often. But, it was probably something more, and she passed a few days later with a very, very mild stomach pain. So, if I would have only known to do something more, but she always had an ache or pain (here or there), so it's nothing I can do now. But, yes, I wish I could go back in time and do something different. I can't, and I hate that. But, Doctors said that (probably) nothing would have changed the outcome, since she passed so quickly. So, maybe, that's some solace for you too. Sometimes, it just happens that way that it happens.

No, please do your research. Colonoscopies often give false hope that everything is okay, as it misses so very much. Plus, the complications from the actual colonoscopy take many out. They are a scam, just like the mammogram. Chemo doesn't work, either.

My mom entered hospice this last Friday, in her home. Mom has had all the symptoms for the past year. She has been progressively diagnosed with a patchwork of health problems. The hospice nurse came to meet her, had she not seen her medical history, would have thought her ability to carry a conversation, she had 12 months to live. I then showed her the photo of her sudden diagnosis for Metastatic HERS2 breast cancer, she literally was taken aback and said she would be lucky to have weeks, maybe 1-2. Three months ago it was 1.7cm. It is now the size of a softball. It is suspected her leg pain is bone cancer. A week ago mom was playing playdough with her great granddaughter. Today she is in bed, hasn’t eaten in 4 days, on meds and maybe 80-85#. She was 115 just three months ago. She is taking her diagnosis poorly, sometimes remembers her Dr visit, other times not. Two days ago, she didn’t recognize me. I’ve watched your videos now for awhile and thank you for being so forthcoming with symptoms. It has absolutely prepared me for our visit with hospice. Thank you!

I am so sorry for your mother’s health diagnosis. I too am a stage 3 triple positive breast cancer patient that went to the lymphatic system. My career was in oncology research. The cancer has most likely metastasized to her brain. May her days be comfortable & peaceful.

Julie, Former GYN/ONC chemo coordinator here. Just a clarification regarding something you said. A PAP smear will not detect ovarian cancer. It can and does detect cervical cancer. However, seeing your OB/GYN annually for a PAP smear can assist in getting checked for ovarian cancer based on the abdominal and pelvic exam your MD will do, and any health history you share. It's often confused by women that a clear PAP smear means they do not have ovarian cancer. But this is not true. A PAP smear checks the cellular structure of the cervix, which is also assessed visually during the exam. But the ovaries cannot be either visually assessed or tested by the cellular scrapings of the cervix in a PAP smear. So yes, absolutely go annually to get a PAP smear. And be absolutely open about any symptoms you are having regarding anything ovarian related. Ovarian cancer is a silent killer. Women usually are not diagnosed until it is at a later stage and often metastasized. Hope this helps. Thanks for you videos. They do so much for so many.

I know. It varies by MD protocol here in the States/and or insurance coverage here in the US. So, yes please absolutely go when you are able as to the coverage plan you have. I know someone who is now on an annual PAP smear protocol for the next 20 years due to her former husband's "allergy to monogamy". However, if you have tested positive for HPV, have changes in either you menstrual flow, breakthrough bleeding, pain during intercourse, abnormal watery discharge, and/or other symptoms of cervical abnormality, do not wait for the three year period to pass. Be proactive. Schedule a PAP screening as soon as possible. Know your body, so you can recognize when things are off. No one knows your body as well as you do. Best wishes.

He is 59 & has so many mental health issues plus probable CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. My Dad started with a bit of a throat tickle about 2 years ago and last year it turned into a cough even though it was infrequent it was noticeable and the family urged him to get checked out. Turns out his prostate cancer which had been treated with radiation 15 years prior had returned and is now metastatic prostate cancer. He has it in his spine, rib cage and lungs and since he is now 86 he doesn't want to do any biopsies or further treatment so we have no idea how advanced it truly is or how long he has left. He is the picture of health on the outside and is quite active and mobile but I assume the coughing will only get worse as time goes on and other more serious symptoms will emerge. We are respecting his wishes to carry on as though nothing is wrong however you can't help but worry can you. I couldn't agree with you more that the warning signs you mentioned should never be ignored.

Lost my dad to colorectal cancer so I had my first colonoscopy last month even though I'm only in my 40s. Caught 4 polyps with high grade dysplasia. Preventative care is SO IMPORTANT.

I'm a retired nurse. In May of 2019, I noticed weight loss in my sister. She assured me it was because she wasn't eating by September she was jaundice, and was diagnosed with terminal adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. Please listen to Julie!!!!

I had sudden weight loss and enlarged lymph nodes...I was screened for lymphoma immediately and thank God I didn't have it. I ended up being diagnosed with lupus but I keep an eye on these things closely now. Thank you for this video.

I was diagnosed with cancer last year and they thought my cancer spread everywhere because I had enlarged lymph nodes, inflammation, lung nodules and liver tumours in the PET scan. Turns out I probably have some autoimmune disease. My doctor thinks I have lupus so I am now waiting to see a rheumatologist which is about a 12-18 month wait. I have so many symptoms of lupus including the butterfly rash which my old doctor ignored for years, along with my cancer symptoms. My new doctor saved my life, I am almost in remission! Make sure you keep your inflammation down and your lupus under control because you now have an increased risk of developing cancer. This is not to scare you though, it may never happen. Just make sure you go for regular checkups and don’t ignore any symptoms. A good doctor makes all the difference as well. ❤

I had an uncle who was obese but thrilled with what he thought was his effortless weightloss. Before long he was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. Two years earlier, another uncle went yellow with jaundice. He also died with pancreatic cancer. It's in my family, so I'll be looking out for the signs. Thanks, Julie.

You can get your own bloodwork run by paying for it yourself at request-a-test. If you study up on it find out what bloodwork might be a marker. Just add addational testing yourself.

I'm looking forward to seeing my mom again. What I've figured out is that there is no prize at the end for whomever lives the longest. No trophies, no prize, no recognition. I love reading deathbed vision and "takeaway vision" stories, there is just something about them that seems "real" to me, and when it comes my turn to go I hope that I'm able to do it as gracefully as possible and I hope that it's my mom who comes to meet me and help guide me into the Light.

Great advice! Years ago I coughed non stop for a month. My Dad said to go to a doctor and a doctor friend got an appointment with a pulmonologist. It turned out I had a rare lung disease that is treatable but not curable called Sarcoidosis which is mainly a hardening of the lungs. It can also be found in the central nervous system which is painful but I have one the lungs. I took a steroid Prednisone as a way to reduce the inflammation and have 50% lung capacity. Yet, I lived with Sarcoidosis for 20 years and still get out live my life.

I had unexplained weight loss and bruising when I was diagnosed with Leukemia. Those didn’t bring me to the doctor. Fatigue and shortness of breath did. I thought I had a heart problem. Nope. (10 years remission)

I agree with the unexplained weight loss, but sometimes it’s hard to identify “unexplained.” I retired from a very high stress job in late 2018 after undergoing hip replacement surgery. I thought that would be a good time to begin a weight loss plan. I did some research and decided to try the keto diet. Boy did it work. I was consistently losing 15 pounds per month, month after month, despite being a 68 year old female couch potato. I was so smug about my results…right up to the point my cancer was diagnosed. It was not that keto is a bad diet. I think it is a great diet and I still follow a low carb diet 4 years later. It is just that I was losing toooo much weight. However, because I was trying to lose weight, I didn’t recognize I was losing too much weight.

I lost 50 pounds in a two year period. Got a blood test & i was extremely anemic. Had a colonoscopy and upper GI. They found a hiatal hernia that was seeping blood. It was so small that they assumed it had been doing it for ten years or more. I've been on iron for 2 years, & not anemic anymore. I also have gained back the weight i lost & feel great !!

Had the identical situation with a sliding stomach from a hiatal hernia. The stomach scraping through the diaphragm ended up with severe anemia. Upped the ferritin level & hemoglobin with oral iron supplements under the care of a hematologist. Had a Nissen Fundoplication & new diaphragm. Check your ferritin level. You can have a normal hemoglobin but the ferritin level not be within normal parameters.

I had a persistent cough starting in 2019 it was not bad, but did not go away. I ignored it until 2022 and found out in 2023 that I have pulmonary sarcoidosis (rare autoimmune disease)in my lungs. Thankfully, there has been no progression of the disease.

Julie! Thanks for teaching me about end of life scenarios. I have stage 4 nsc lung cancer and am supposed to be dead by February 23 ( 6 mos after dr told me how long I have to live) I still have no symptoms 2 years after having my lower right lung removed. Absolutely no chemo (never will) just keto and exercise. My sobriety date is June 30,2015 so I feel a kinship with you! ❤

So true. At 77, just got another all clear on my mammogram. With no family history or symptoms, my doctor is not sending me for a colonoscopy. I do the home tests regularly. I firmly believe we are our own advocates for our health.

You should be getting colonoscopies regardless of family history. Most colon cancer is found in people without a family history with only 1 in 3 people that have a family history. I am not sure what kind of doctor you are seeing but that doctor is doing you a great disservice if he believes that not having a family history is an indicator. It's not. Thank goodness you are doing home testing, although I am not sure if it is as good as getting an actual colonoscopy.

The only indication anything was wrong with my late wife was the jaundice. A year and a half later she died from pancreatic cancer. She had the Whipple procedure, radiation, and chemo all to no avail. PC sucks because by the time it's diagnosed it's usually too late.

I have Medicare but it’s useless because I can’t afford the copays and deductibles. I have never had a mammogram or colonoscopy nor do I get yearly checkups. This unfortunately the reality for lots of Americans.

Preventative screenings such as mammograms and colonoscopies are covered at 100% by Medicare. Also there is a yearly full health “Medicare annual checkup” again at 100% coverage with no copay or deductible. Call and get them scheduled!

Julie, as a retired oncology nurse I appreciate all of your videos, they are invaluable! However, please clarify that a Pap smear itself does NOT detect ovarian cancer. Having a gynecological examination (during which a Pap smear is done) is imperative to potentially discovering an issue with your ovaries. Thanks again for your videos!

I am also a 2 time breast cancer survivor because both cancers were picked up early by mammograms.(last cancer was 2007 and still here.) I find many people that kinda put their head in the sand and try alternative only means to help with their symptoms I have a client now who is fighting some invasive diagnostic work after they found a mass in his back. Of course, we had the scarey nurse talk. I have seen way too mny cases like this, very often with poor outcomes.I see massage as a WONDERFUL integrative, possibly prevative, complimentary care in many cases. There is certainly proof of restorive circumstances too...however...PLEASE listen to Nurse Julie. She knows what she is talking about.Early detection and medical intervention is everything in most cases and saves many lives.She has proof from her beloved hospice patients. Please be kind to all medical professionals. They work so hard, and most are passionate about their work and try to do the right thing in almost all cases.❤❤❤

NO JULIE!!!! This was the first sign I saw in my husband, he wouldn't go to a doctor, then his throat closed up over a time, after weeks of this, he finally went to doctor, biopsy was positive. Now in last stage of Esophageal, Stomach Cancer, lymph nodes also. It's like I'm in a bad dream, he's in denial Julie!!!!

My husband had a radical change in stool and rectal bleeding. He was fatigued and loss of appetite/weight loss. Strong history of colon cancer. He got very sick and I was trying to brace for a colon cancer diagnosis. After a colonoscopy, endoscopy and Full body CT scan turns out it is ulcerative colitis, a very treatable disease. So, don’t panic but get checked 🙂

Hi Have him get a colonoscopy about twice a year. I was . Yet, UC can become cancer! Mine did. My gastroenterologist spotted it during a routine colonoscopy. I was between stage 0 and stage 1 .

Exactly what my doctor said. Unexplained weight loss is a huge red flag. The things we have good screenings for (mammograms and pelvic exams, blood tests colonoscopy even sigmoidoscopy) we do all of those. But many things we don’t have easy, safe screenings for. So we have to pay attention to our own bodies and be in contact with our physicians.

Good topic. It’s a little off topic but I wish health care professionals would alert parents to the symptoms of spinal meningitis. It’s so easier to treat during early stages but devastating if not caught soon enough. Point tenderness at base of the skull, a fever that doesn’t respond to OTC medicines.

I've had a persistent cough for 8or 9 months. As it turned out after a Bronchoscopy and CT Scan they found a patch of fungus in my left lobe. They put me on a 10 course of antibiotics and steroids. The set me up for a biopsy to verify the kind of fungus. They ran me through the CT Scan again to pinpoint the exact spot and doctor cancelled it. When he looked at my lung with the 2nd CT, the fungus was gone. Don't think I didn't breathe easier. My Lung Doctor will order CT Scans every 4 months to be safe.😥😅

Thanks for your post, I had an x-ray that turned into "we need to do a CT scan" when my doctor saw something suspicious during x-ray, it ended up being scar tissue on my lungs from pneumonia...what a scare..I'm so happy you are ok too

I have scaring in my lungs too from the multiple times I've had pneumonia. The funny thing about my situation. My regular Doctor finally put his foot down and sent me to the Pulmonary Specialist against my wishes. I'd always told him I was fine with him treating my asthma, COPD, and reoccurring respiratory infections. Right off the bat, during his screenings and workup to get my baseline, the fungus was found. I guess my doctor was smart to send me to the Specialist 😂 Glad everything turned out well for you. I hope you've gotten your pneumonia vaccines 😇

Keep following up. Some of those fungi are very resistant to treatment, so you want to treat early. I have latent TB, so I will also be on the lookout for trouble.

I was diagnosed with A fungal infection in my lungs Aspergillosis, begged the Drs. For help for nearly a year, not found on a cat scan, found on a broncoscapy, along with a friable right lung, put on Voriconazole for 2 months, then it just stopped working, breathing went away again, so now I’m off to a lung specialist & infectious disease specialist, the Medical system is a nightmare, advocating for yourself is exhausting. It shouldn’t be this hard to get the right help!😢

I've lost 40 lbs this last year with no effort whatsoever. I've had every screening available, except a mole check and an abdominal CT. I feel like shit and am so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I had a biopsy on a thyroid nodule and that came back ok. A month ago I felt a lump in my ribs above my right breast. Then two more in the weeks that followed. Saw my primary a week ago and she could feel them also. Having a mammogram, ultrasound Monday. Just since seeing her last week I've found another lump in my left breast. I don't want cancer in any way shape or form, but answers to why I feel so unhealthy would be really nice.

If mammo, etc. are inconclusive, please ask for a referral to an oncologist. Something is wrong and it most likely is not cancer. But better safe than sorry.

Such good advice, I ignored a change in bowel habits for around a year, I was eventually diagnosed with stg2 colon cancer, I had quite radical surgery and I’m now classed as cured, that may or may not turn out to be the case but I do wish I’d gotten checked out sooner, listen to this lady she knows what she’s talking about! 🙂

Weight loss was the sign she had colon cancer. She passed away from it. Doctors were worried that it might be depression or dementia. It was her 4th round of cancer.

I also had a persistent cough and then it would magically go away. Hasn’t returned for a few years and never figured out why. Tried different prescribed medication that had no effect. I personally think it was anxiety or stress, but that has never been verified.

My husband and I told every Dr. We went to that he was losing weight but not one thought it was a problem.This went on for over a year….when my husband died ,he weighed 93 lbs.and both lungs were full of cancerous fluid. It was so obvious,but no one would address it😢

My husband's aunt (by marriage) found out she had stomach cancer and of course lost weight quickly. I don't know if her weight loss began prior to her diagnosis, but I wouldn't be surprised. Unexplained weight loss is generally an indication of cancer. Never ignore it.

In Australia we have a high incidence of skin cancer so yearly skin checks are a must if you have fair skin or have had a lot of sun exposure exposure.

I was diagnosed with HOCM. The Cardiologist stated, needs will manage it. No, they did not. I went through Cardiologists until they properly diagnosed me and I ended up with surgery to relieve the obstruction. It did not restore me to 90% capacity as I was told, I'm at 30%, still symptoms and I have an ICD. I found an MDPhd who specializes in Cardiomyopathy and I'm comfy with her. My PCP always jumps to other conclusions when I complain of symptoms and it frustrates the heck out of me. I tire easily, my feet swell at times, my Palpitations drive me nuts, keep me up at night. So much fun.

Have you ever had a patient that was depressed from the time they found out they were dying or do all people get use to the idea & push along? Thanks to your videos I'm more comfortable with the thought of needing Hospice one day. Part of me just doesn't want to know the earth is moving & another part of me wants to go & do what I can as long as I can. I'm afraid of the pain of whatever illness I may find out I have some day. If you are well now (sounds like it:)😊 get your regular check ups and blood work like nurse Julie said and my dad was diagnosed 6 years ago with stage 4 prostate cancer, he unfortunately never went to a doctor until he ended up in the hospital...after he was diagnosed and told 15 months by the oncologist...he said "I'm going to live my life the way I am used to" he went to a weekly cancer day away program for the terminally I'll when a new person came he said tell us about your cancer or illness today and after that we don't sit here and dwell...he lived another 5 and half years after diagnosis giving him 15 months maximum. We all have a number and live every day the best you can❤

In January 2012 my older brother was on his last weeks of hospice. He had cancer of the liver brain and lungs. I returned home before he died but had scene some of the signs. The hospice care was a blessing.

Thanks. My mom had a bad cough that wouldn't go away. She did 2 rounds of different antibiotics. I suggested she get a chest x-ray. She had stage 4 lung cancer. Not a smoker. Worked in an office with chain smokers in the 1960s - 1990s. My chain smoking sister lived at home with her. Mom was gone in 5 months. My sister died from acute arrhythmia at 36. Don't smoke. Don't allow anyone you love smoke either. I can't stand smoke and can't be around anyone who does. I miss my momma every day. She died in 2000. My sister died in 1999. Get a chest x-ray if you have a cough that won't go away.

(Stage 4 cancer patient here). I would add unexplained weight gain as well. I gained a ton of weight before I was diagnosed. I've asked lots of people on my care team and my infusion nurses, and they all told me it's half and half. Half of cancer patients gain weight and half lose. So maybe just look at a big change in your weight that you don't have an explanation for. And mammo's don't need to start annual until 50. And pap smears are important--but just as important is HPV screening. If you do both, you don't need pap every year. And men need to check testicles when they are younger and prostate as they age. I had thyroid cancer 34 years ago and a coworker of mine said to me -What if you had not gotten that biopsy? I said I would have died and she literally said YOU THINK? She was a college graduate and thought if did not know you had cancer it was not really cancer!

BE PERSISTENT!!! Hospice nurse for 17 years. I know several friends whose dermatologists said they didn’t have anything wrong. It may take THREE drs to get your melanoma or other diagnosis, but keep trying. (Derms seem particularly bad about missing things.) My former derm was watching spots on himself and his wife that he was sure were nothing and they both had cancer. NAILS- clubbing- round, bulging fingernails are a sign of serious lung disease. Bluish nail beds also ominous. Thanks, Julie!

Unfortunately my husband had a list of health issues that ended up masking his cancer. He had serious, life long asthma. Anxiety, hypochondria, I think a little OCD. He self medicated with beer and fast food so he was overweight too. So when complained about his knee hurting or trouble breathing or being tired? It was all more of the same. Regular tests didn't show anything. Turns out it was a tumor in his upper femur making his knee hurt. Tumor in his rib making his back hurt. But mostly the tumor in his throat making it hard for him to breath. The weight loss started after he was diagnosed. We were planning a trip for our 40th Anniversary in June and took him to get seen by an GI doctor because he had trouble swallowing, also something that had happened on and off for over 20 years. He only had the aches and pains at that time. By August he wasn't eating much and needed a walker to get around. By September he could hardly talk. He died in October. He lost 60 to 70 pounds in 3 months.

My cough started with an illness qt the end of September of 2023. It didn't go away. After a few tests, by January, the pulmonologist had diagnosed me with sarcoidosis. This is the same disease that Bernie Mac had. Of all of the things that it could have been, this was the best diagnosis.

I caught cancer very early twice because I listened to my body. First, unintentional weight loss and stomach pains/change of bowel habits. Sent for a colonoscopy and found a massive pre cancerous polyp. Then years later I went for a Pap smear for concerns of painful intercourse and they found pre cervical cancer cells. Had two unsuccessful LEEPS so I had a hysterectomy.
