Hey Dpreview, I've spent lots of time trying to get my brand new syrp genie one to connect to an iphone(six different phones and 2 ipads actually) and it keeps failing the required update. Can I download the FW and install it manually or something? Would love any help as I've bought this for a client and I need it to work for them but sadly the product is completely unusable out of the box.

Follow up question, with the original genie(not the genie one) when pairing it with the genie mini, was the "bounce back" function added and what cables were needed to connect the two devices? Huge thanks for your help.

Hey there, Syrp was bought by Manfrotto but they recently told me to heck off when I emailed for support. Said there is NO Syrp Lab team anymore and they are out of business. I might be able to help though. I have the Genie original you are asking about, not the "One", a genie mini, and a genie mini II. I use the "Syrp Sync" cable between the Genie linear and the mini, then the mini and mini II communicate over Bluetooth so I have a full 3 axis system. It is very buggy and I was hoping my support email would get me the firmware I needed to use my original Genie with the new Manfrotto motion app but it doesn't seem they want to help me.

Haha, I'm an Australian, but lived in NZ for a few years - your attempt is kind of half and half but pretty goddam good!

As an Australian I think it's much better than half-half. (I have never lived in NZ but I have watched a lot of NZ television.) I'm so used to North Americans absolutely butchering Antipodean accents; usually it's somewhere between unrecognisable and a Paul Hogan impersonation. Chris did a lot better than most professional actors. There was a bit of South African peeking through at times but the bulk of it was definitely NZ and not Australian.
