Please can you tell us or show us what are the capabilities of genie 2 in real time video move. That is very difficult to find demo with this gear in shooting video real time. Thanks
Hey - I would just like some clarification here. If I already have a motorized slider head, do I need the linear unit? Can I just buy the Pan Tilt head? Or am I misunderstanding the purpose of the linear unit? Thanks :)
i dont really like the center of rotation of the tilting, since the rotation axis is quite a bit lower than the camera just seems weird for me because of the camera moving a lot in the 3d space instead of just rotating around itself like with 2 genie mini
They have a bracket on their site which lets you use two of their Genie Minis to create a 2-axis panner. Doing it this way lets you rotate in the camera body (or hopefully on the true focal point inside the lens). It looks to be cheaper too, at least for the two minis.
Looks like a great piece of kit. Interested to know if it can be used to capture a multi-row panorama - say 3 rows of 5 images for stitching later in Photoshop? And can it offer camera shutter controls like exposure times, delays, etc?
You talked about incline. But showed with the linear modul only. I interesting about the pan and tilt head module in incline/vertically. What are the possibilities? Now I send back Edelkrone Head Plus, because not good in incline/vertically. I need strong usable product for that up to 3-4 kilos! Somebody? I can't find company which can do it even in this higher price range! So, is it any good????
IDK if you will respond to this or not, but what I really need to know how loud all aspects of the linear, panning, and tilting of the motors for video and interview work. I can hear the motors some from your lav mic but the music makes it hard to judge how sound-wise it performs under load, slow vs fast movements, etc. If you could give me your opinion on that that would be much appreciated! Thanks!
I have the genie linear ii and pan and tilt ii and when it works, I love it, but now it's been the 3rd time that the pan and tilt totally stop working after having the unit replaced. The app can be very unstable too. I'm returning it!
Start by saying Very well done video , thnx for sharing. The older version and the mini used a short cable to control the Camera (ex: trigger shutter in move, shoot, move sequence during a timelapse), this wasn't mentioned anywhere in the video.. is this still the case?
Hi Matthew, are you still using the Syrp gear? I do timelapse and am interested to find out is it possible to do interval ramping i.e. sunset, night and sunrise timelapse with this hardware and software?
Previously, the mini had a place in the old system. What I liked about it is you could start with one mini for pan, add a second for tilt, then add the genie for the linear drive. A new photographer could save up and graduate to the next level over time. With the Genie II, the mini is no longer needed. First step is the Pan / Tilt head for $1600 so the system is not as accessible as it once was.
This reminds me of motorized gimbals a few years ago, when the features weren't as nice and the price was twice as much. In a few years, 3-axis control will be smaller, more user-friendly and half the cost (in addition to adding focus control over USB/phone). But if I had to get a system today, this would be high up on my list.
Could the Linear device be upgraded using, say miniature timing belts that are used in some printers and medical devices - probably necessary if shooting angled or vertical multi-pass composites where the cord may stretch in damp weather?
they have an awesome build quality, can carry a lot of weight and move very smooth, and can also move very slow and when filming you most likely will have your phone with you so no problem
I spent along time on syrps channel and website after your last clip on it. I was impressed i think ill deffinitly be investing alot in syrp gear in my photograpy future. I love the gear vids you do i find them so super helpful i love your integrity about it all. Thanks🤗
Been patiently waiting for this review. They definitely make a solid bit of kit. Been super impressed with my gen 1 genie and genie mini. I’d say pretty dam sweet review man 🤘
Does it trigger your shutter on your camera? I leave mine outside during the night and I don't want to trust an external intervelometer to sync with the sliders movement.
Hey Matthew, do you reckon this can be used for mobile timelapse photography, assuming there is a second phone/tablet to control the device. Do you think the interval/play time settings would work nice and smooth?
@@MatthewVandeputte the drama is because when you take this kind of shot, there is a cable connected from the device to your camera, isn't there? And that's for shutter/movement synchronisation, right? In the case of using a phone, this connection wouldn't exist. Please correct me...
great review. I just purchased the genie (the original or genie I) along with genie mini as a 3 axis kit. same as genie II, but cheaper. Would love to see your review about the mini as well.
This is possibly the worst value for money kit out there, so as great as I might be on paper, I would never ever consider it over a Rhino motion or Kessler Second Shooter. Don't know why you even bother with this other than to get a freebie peace of kit....
Rhino doesn't even have three axis and Kessler is far less user friendly (and about the same money, with less options). Your arguments are bad and you should feel bad.
I don't really know since when 1500 is the same as 2500+ and, multiple keyframes, expandability (eg focus motors), load capacity, upgrade program, professional powering options, is considered as less options. Very optimistic showing in the marketing material people putting a red on one of this things, I just don't see that happening in reality, sorry. But hey, each to their own.
I own the entire Kessler system, I prefer to use the Syrp for the majority of the shoots I do. Different shoots call for different systems, Kessler is good for studio environment but has no chance when it comes to travel or portability. Don't forget the necessary accessories like battery, cables, mounts etc. These things add up really quickly.
