Great video. On a Monday I followed this video and disassembled the transmission. I found some worn and broken parts. During the week I acquired the parts. Friday I put the transmission back together. Saturday Morning I bolted it back in and Saturday afternoon, I took it to the track and made four passes. It shifted great!! Thank You!

Thank you guys so much!!!!! I never bother to comment on RU-vid videos, but you guys helped me out so much to help me help my brother. He has a 92 fox body with a 302 my dad twin turbo’d for him. He fused the 3rd gear tooth into the counter shaft. I’m an engine guy but was able to build his t5 using this vid and a schematic breakdown. Works great pulling boost!!!! Thank you!!!!!

My nephews son , has discovered the Automobile hobby . We watch your videos together along with a few other excellent fellas. In my advanced years I have trouble remembering a lot of the knowledge I learned and you guys are a big help . I can't lay on the floor like I used to 30 years ago and my eyes are no longer the Falcons eyes they once were . I have volumes of Assembly manuals and repair and service manuals that he can look at but this is so much easier, I started with Plymouth after I came home from Korea and retired from the Old North Assembly . You men are certainly no kids anymore but far younger than I . You are excellent instructors and I hope you continue to do so , your very thorough and have exceptional attention to detail . I would have hired you on the drop of a half dollar . Thanks for broadcasting these tutorials you've made it possible for me to continue to show my great nephew a tradition of skill . On the technical side of the comment box . I always found that laying out your parts from left to right and top to bottom in an exploding view helps keep order and helps speed up the inspection process and keep inventory on your components. Especially as you get older . Of course it requires investment in a long work bench . In my youth I'd work from a pile but those days are gone with 5 cent dogs and Eisenhower

Amazes me how some people have the ability to work on whatever a customer may bring in to a shop. I have the ability and motivation to do whatever needs to be done, electrical, mechanically, bodywork and all facets on MY car. But never would I have to motivation to do it as a job for customers, on multiple cars or multiple designs. I simply don't understand how people do that. Obviously repetition helps, but damn, those people are dedicated.

Another great video...as usual Jeff. Regarding availability of the lock ring pliers, believe it or not you can actually pick up a pair at most auto parts stores. Most chain stores carry Lisle brand specialty tools. The Lisle number for them is 44900. I had a pair for years. Last year I rebuilt a Super T10 for someone and of course, couldn't find them anymore! Off to one of the local chain auto parts store I went and picked up a replacement, which were the Lisle pair!

Save yourself some time. You don't need to heat up or even remove the reverse pivot. The gear train will slide out with it still in place. Also you don't need a "special tool" to remove the countergear rear bearing.... just a bearing clamp. Also NEVER use jaw clamps on a 5th gear its a great way to damage it. Press supporting under first gear. The newer T5's have extreme press fits.

Good video, question is the T5 off 99 mustang V6 the same as V8 Other than input shaft and retainer?
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 9 лет назад
Robert Sanchez 1994 to 1998 V6 transmissions are a direct replacement for the 94-95 V8 T5. The transmission has essentially the same internals as the 89 and older V8 T5's with a longer input shaft. The 99-up V6 will work but the speedometer setup is totally different. You will need a Dallas Mustang Speedcal box PN: 9910ER.

Bailey Romp I had the same problem with my 86 Nissan 300zx Turbo. It has this same t5 trans and I can't find anywhere what the problem is. It'd be hard to get into first and second and eventually I couldn't even get it to go into reverse. I'd love some info from the page if possible.

@arielatom03
@arielatom03 5 лет назад
Travis Williams the problem is either worn out synchros or tabs and they end up point to point with the gear and cause an over-index condition where it doesnt grind but it doesnt go into gear unless you use a lot of force to force those teeth to move slightly.

Quick question? I have t5 from an sn95 I got a third and fourth gear howl that increases with rpm only gears that the noise Is present in. Is it possible that the input sha ft bearing is the cause of my noise
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 9 лет назад
Input shaft will usually cause more whine in 1-3 rather than 3-4 only. But that could be the most likely cause.

Great videos first of all. Very informative and very easy to follow. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping us do it your selfers out their. First one I saw I subscribed and have watched all that have to do with the T5 transmission. I do have few questions if you could answer when you get the opportunity. I have a 1999 (the sticker on the door says 98 but it was the first body style after the rounded body so 99) Ford Mustang with the 3.8L V6. According to the sticker on the door where it says TR, it just has the number 5 which I'm assuming at this point it is a T5. I won't know for sure until I pull it. If in fact it is I was curious about a few things. I will be getting a 1995 5.0 that is currently in a AC Cobra kit car with some upgrades already and wondering if first the transmission in my 3.8L V6 will bolt up to it? If so I plan on rebuilding it (first time doing this and a little nervous not going to lie, but your videos have given me great confidence in doing so) for this engine. What are some specific things I need to look for and do to the transmission to handle the 5.0 engine? I will be upgrading the clutch and rear end also in this process. Will the rebuild kit y'all offer suffice and be strong enough to handle the power and if so how much can the rebuild take power wise? If it does work I possibly will be putting a supercharger in the future on it as well so would it be able to handle this modification? I'm sure I'll have more questions later but these are the most important at the moment. Thank you again.

Does the t45 transmission for a 96-98 tail housing remove the same way as the 99-04 t45 tail housing? Do they both take down the same way as the t5 as far as removing the tail housing? I'm needing to swap the tail housing on my 99 cobra to get my speedo to work because I got a 98 Cobra t45 transmission for very cheap and put it in but didn't know that the speed sensor is different and my speedo doesn't work now. But I have the other t45 that came out of my Cobra and was going to swap out the tail housing to be able to use the right speedo sensor for my car because the 96-98 t45 is gear driven sensor and the 99-04 is pulse sensor.

@chadbrattain7985

@@AutoRestoMod I just found out that the t45 transmission for the 98-earlier cars have the plastic reluctor ring for the speedo sensor and the 99-04 t45 has a metal reluctor ring for the speedo and you can swap the tail housing on both and swap the reluctor rings on both to make a 98-earlier t45 transmission work on a 99-04 speedo sensor and viscera. I just did it on my 99 cobra with a 98 Cobra t45 transmission and swapped out the tail housing and reluctor ring on my old transmission.

4:25 that long output shaft on mine I can move up and down a lot. Is it possible that the bearing is damaged or is that normal. I also don't have a colored gear but a metal gear. When I removed my driveshaft last time it lost all fluid out of the trans as well. Hi there Guys! You are the best. I'm from Portugal and I'm having an hard time trying to find someone to solve my T5 problem from my Sierra Cosworth. Looks like I'll be doing this myself... A few years ago, when changing gear hard from 2nd to 3rd, it got stuck in the 3rd gear spot but acted like it was on neutral. I had a really hard time pulling it out from 3rd but eventually managed it. The same thing happend again last month but this time, after I managed to unlock it from 3rd, the first gear just skipped to neutral every time I let go the clutch and I had to hold the gear knob with my hand when using first gear. The next day the gearbox was fine again with the difference that it would scratch from 2nd to 3rd if I did the gearing too fast and has been like that for the last 2 or 3 weeks. What should I look for when I'm disassembling the gearbox? If you can help a brother out that would be great!
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 8 лет назад
We'd recommend a good aftermarket shifter. Modern Driveline carries an excellent one: www.moderndriveline.com/ This will help with the shifts as it gates to 3rd. We'd recommend a top quality rebuild kit. Again, Modern Driveline carries one of the most complete. Inspect the gears and follow what Allan says in the diagnosis of the transmission.

+Jon Olaivar I don't power shift it at all but I have 400+ tq so I really only get on it past 2nd to take some stress off of the weaker gears. I'm pretty sure it's also the close ratio variant.
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 8 лет назад
The weak spot in the T5 seems to be second to third gear shift. If the shifter is a good one that "gates" to third, you should be fine. FYI The non-World Class T5 is rated at 265 ft/lbs while the World Class is 300 ft/lbs. The "Z" (used in the 95 Cobra) is rated at 330 ft/lbs. The TKO is rated at 425 ft/lbs. If you are sitting down read on...a new TK500 from D&D Performance is running $2,395. So, pedal softly my friend!

He said to replace it with a thicker titanium-plate would increase the longevity of the transmission. Could this be true? Sorry, I'm new to the whole transmission thing.

+soupercooper We did the seat pan here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XHi-cucEFd4.html We'll look into the roof rail thing. We're assuming that you mean the fastback?

+AutoRestoMod Muscle Car Resto and Modifications yes I was referring to fastback, I believe the coupe is another story.

Sadly They went out of business a couple of years ago. And there is no longer a way to put annotations on RU-vid videos to reflect that.

Had a stock t5 in my 84 Camaro with a 383 stroker. And the t5 took a giant dump.

It can happen. The new TKX might be a good solution to that problem.

my first gear hub assembly is stuck on the shaft, any advice on how to take it off?
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 8 лет назад
+Zachery Danny Often you can get them to let go by taking the main-shaft and tapping it, output end down, on the table. Be sure to keep the shaft vertical while you do this. If that fails we would suspect a bearing set that has given up the ghost. You may have to replace the main-shaft if that is the case.

what i should say, is the first gear sleeve. the hub came off no issue, but the piece over the pin wont budge

can you send a pic of what you are talking about to Jeff? jford@autorestomod.com

The 1-2 hub is part of the mainshaft. It should not be removed.

If you are working on a Non World Class you need to support under 1st gear and press through the washer sheering the roll pin. The newer designed 1st gear washer floats without a pin.

Is this for a world class T5? Or is the rebuild about the same? Thanks
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 9 лет назад
Yes, the only real difference is the bearing pack for the main shaft.We cover than in the next segment.

My mustang gt 95 its poping out 1st and 2nd gear when you push hard in gas what do I need??? Someone help please

Looks Like it is time for a complete rebuild. Wen the transmission is popping out of gear, it is an indication that the synchros are shot.
@GearBoxVideo
@GearBoxVideo 10 лет назад
Actually synchros don't cause popping out of gear by themselves and rarely on a T5 are they that issue. Physical wear of the gear's clutch engagement teeth, shift fork, shift fork pads, as well as slider can cause that.
