TABAC ORIGINAL AFTERSHAVE REVIEW - THE ICONIC FRAGRANCE FROM GERMANY 

"Tabac Original" (and "Old Spice") was both my father's and my grandfather's after shave. Both have been dead for many years. But as soon as I open that iconic bottle they are right there with me...

It took me a few weeks to like TABAC- got the EDC and at first thought it smelled like an old lady's perfume. Gradually over time my nose has identified all the subtleties and I now love it and would say it is a Very masculine fragrance. I believe the barbers I frequented in the eighties must have applied it to the back of the neck after a clipper cut as that is what it now reminds me of - barbershop 100%. I cant even detect florals in it now - just a lovely shaving soap top with bitter citrus, and a dark, musky scent underneath with a kind of oiled metal vibe. Same with Brut - it seems to take the nose a while to assemble the different scents and then arrive at a whole profile- absolutely love Brut aftershave now (used to wear Kouros and Azzaro in the eighties). Thanks for these reviews- like many others am trying all the old classics now in my 50s!

Tabac is the Cadillac of shaving soaps in my opinion. All class, all the way.

When I was stationed in Minden in the early eighties I was introduced to Aramis. Wore it for many years and occasionally go back to it but I'm smitten with Halfeti. Another great video Ashley Thanks for sharing.

Very nice video. I've started to use a DE razor after 10 years with a beard. I decided to celebrate Christmas early, got a Rockwell T2 and a Tabac shaving soap. 🎅🏻 It smells beautiful, reminds me of the barber's room we had on base when I was a conscript in South Pacific in the 90's. 🇵🇫 Smells of classic soap bars, wood panelling, rice powder pump bottle, old school cologne, strops, cedar wood humidor... So many memories. I went online again and ordered some Tabac normal soap, shaving cream and aftershave! 🤣 Keep up the great work. 👍🏻

Thank you for a great detailed review! Tabac is also one of my favorite scents. By the way the scent of Tabac EDT is a little different from the classic scent of a soap, after shave of cologne.

I've recently purchased Tabac (shower gel, deodorant stick and eau de toilette). I have to say, I rather like it and I'm pleased to see a positive review. My partner considers the fragrance to be somewhat too 'old' for me and she finds it a little reminiscent of a talcum powder fragrance. The shower gel is the stand out product of the range for it is pH neutral and serves to leave my skin clean and fresh. As it happens, I find the fragrance is somewhat autumnal with notes of sandalwood, amber and patchouli. Great review....thanks. It's also good to hear a Welsh accent on RU-vid.

I just love Tabac! When I use Tabac Shaving soap and Tabac after shave together the scent is there all day long. Even when I hit the shower before bed the scent is still with me.

I love it excellent saving soap and it’s all top quality and stands the test of time it’s fresh and clean.

Top tips as always, and like you, I remember Tabac from years ago. Off to Amazon to give it a try, it'll maybe be a useful alternative to 4711 :)

Thanks for this great review! I first ordered the aftershave after I saw some videos about the Eau de Toilette (I wasn't aware of the smell difference). Indeed the aftershave was very floral and soapy to me and I had trouble getting "masculinity" out of it. Nevertheless, I really started to appreciate the fragrance, especially when it's on your skin for an hour or so. Later I also bought the Eau de Toilette and then came the realization that I had watched the wrong video at the time... But I was also a bit shocked about how different the fragrances of the aftershave and the Eau de Toilette really are! The latter is much more spicier and masculine, exactly as they told in the video. Still, I like them both, it reminds me of by grandpa but at the same time it's a timeless classic

Another review that I enjoyed from The Chaps Guide. I believe the name Tabac is derived from the French tobacconist/restaurant/bar term over a tobacco aroma. It's an intriguing smell and I agree it's classed as an older man's Eau de Toilette. However, to me, it defines class with gentle, subtle smells. Which from a relatively modest cost, distinguishes itself with the modest tones not often experienced with a less expensive brand.

I love Tabac shaving soap and splash. Easy on the splash though, it can be overwhelming. I did a little bit of time at RAF Gutt myself. Nice presentation Ash.

Floral notes thanks to neroli, lavender... not only tabac! I agree! A summer scent? The basic notes are oriental sweet with a twist of spicy. The EDC is so intense that I recommend this fragrance for the colder days, especially in winter. But as you mentioned, you can use the milder AS as a scent throughout the whole year. I agree in that! You say that the EDC is more intense than the ASL. True! You say th the EDT is more intense than rhe EDC. False! (by definition should be.) but although both EDC and EDT are officially Tabac Original scent I have experienced that the EDT is a complete different scent. (more similar to 4711 EDC than to Tabac Original EDC)

Tabac is good stuff!

Their shaving soap is the best you can get. Very good for foaming up. Thick and creamy. Use a brush and saftey razor. Great shave.

is this more masculine than old spice. since i would put old spice 1 level below brut as far as how masculine it smells.

My wife says it smells like baby lotion lol. I think it settles down to a nice "clean" aroma after the flowery notes have dissipated, like having used a scented hotel soap.

It's my all time favorite when it comes to aftershave. Also the shaving soap (I use the one in the pot) is one of my favorite choices if i'm going ro use the brush. I don't use canned foam very often, but the Tabac foam is one of the best I ever tried and the can gives a very high yield. I also tried the EdT and the EdC - they aren't bad too, but there's a small difference to the AS in the fragrances used (especially the EdC has - at least subjectively to my nose - way more citrus but less soapy, aldehydic notes), so I won't buy them any more, because to me the aldehydics in the AS are what makes Tabac so original. I much like the shower gel too, but to me it feels overpriced compared to "ordinary" shampoo/gel, so i won't buy. Really disappointing to me was the shaving cream: the scent isn't bad, but it isn't something special either, nothing that i would show excitement for. But the consistency was one of the worst i ever had, when it comes to shaving creams - inhomogenous and way too liquid compared to any other shaving cream i used before. If cream, then I use "Speick" (coincidentally also a german brans), I haven't found another product that can compete with it when it comes to shaving cream on my skin. But for Aftershave "Tabac Original" has been and hopefully will always be my favorite, i just love it. I'm a male, in his Mid to end 30s, Austrian, using a double-edge safety razor with Pakistani blades. The blue "Treet" blades, if someone wants to know.

What is your opinion of the eau de cologne vs eau de toilet?

I bought myself the EDT. Its smells soapy like after a good shower to me.. I like it. Then I tried the Sir Irisch Moos what a difference, Very mossy indeed like a moist garden. If that is not manly.

I wore this fragrance (the aftershave), very nice floral and a bit musky scent, but it ain't on my line, as from my point of view, it's too floral although it's a classic and I rather wear something more woody and with a bit of Oakmoss in it.

I love the scent of Tabac and the performance of the shave soap. However, SWMBO hates the scent with a passion so I rarely get to wear it.

Oh I don't know, I think it is quite masculine in fragrance, only subtly so. Masculine scents don't always need to be strong and borderline offensive. Tabac is the sort of scent a man wears when he doesn't feel any need to prove himself. I think that is why we older gentlemen prefer it to other scents. If you enjoy American artisan soaps and shave products, five brands I recommend are: Stirling Soap Company, Chicago Grooming Company, Declaration Grooming, Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements, and Dr. Jon's.

beautiful presentation ! Tabac is cult, you know the Beatles whore it back then ...very good quality products, the scent has a little bit changed, as I remember, as it was the scent of my father.. And a fragrance that is 61 years old and still doing well, I challenge the expensive ones to do the same :)

I bought one in Boots (after shave) for £ 7.50.

What company is it made of at 02:10...Murry and Wirz?......marry and woaz? What the heck? Why on earth are are you "butchering" this name? Sorry man, I am just kidding...I am a German, and as the TV-Moderator Conan once said: we are all somekind of mean. Put this jokes aside, I have just shaved myseff with a pro raso pre-shave and this Tabac wonderfull shaving soap....finished this with the aftershave! Outstanding! I was HORRIFIED when you described this as an OLD Man's aftershave. You also got "crossed off my Christmas Card List" for saying "it's not the sort of thing I would have worn in my TWENTIES", because that's when I discovered it, and have stayed with it ever since! But it is of course a personal thing. Like a painting, everybody notices different things, about exactly the same thing! But I do disagree with it NOT being MUSKY. That's why it is called TABAC (or tobacco). It doesn't actually smell OF tobacco, but DOES have the same sort of "heaviness" , as does Old Spice. NOT MASCULINE? I'd have defined it's thick, heavy smell AS MASCULINE myself. This is a "up and close" fragrance that isn't intended to be noticed by anyone but the delighted wearer, and his up - and close lover! What you like more is room- filling fragrances that WAFT. For what I would define being "on the pull". Interesting, though to talk about this! I'm still looking for my SHAMPOO they used to do - I'll make inquiries to see if they still do it You really MUST get the SOAP, which comes in such a lovely clear fake horn oval box!
