Tableturf Is UNDERRATED And Super Addicting 

Table turf (which I nicknamed turble) is my favorite mode whenever I’m getting burnt out. I just hope they add a shortcut cause it’s a bit annoying walking there everytime

Finally, Chara is doing a video about the only game mode that matters.

I really like how tableturf mirrors actual turf war strategy. Like, you can hang around your base trying to farm your special, but you'll be better off taking control of the center first and blocking off the enemy first.

tableturf i feel is definitely a very cool thing in the game especially since its a more surprisingly complex thing then you would first think it was, i honestly secretly hope for a tableturf eshop game spinoff cuz it honestly stands on its own really well. plus the rewards are cool (card shark my beloved)

Tips for people who are interested in trying this mode now: This first one is for anyone looking to collect the cards. Do NOT spend your cards bits!! If you have 100%ed the story, finished the first catalog for the season, and gotten tableturf to level 35ish, you will have gotten every guaranteed pack available and your card collection will probably be 70-100/162. Until the next catalog or some unforseen content is added your only source of packs will be a 4% chance to roll them on the shell out machine. The packs have 0 duplicate protection so if you spend bits now you're only increasing the chance that you get more duplicates later and you're making completing a full collection that much harder. I recommend you save them until you have exactly enough bits to finish off the last few cards to complete your collection. If you're struggling to win I recommend you look at your deck composition. The game is designed so that you get to see every card in your deck in every game, and you get to use all but 3 of them. For this reason I recommend every deck have exactly one (1) special card with the plan to use it on the very last turn as a special. Special cards have the following shared special characteristics: they all paint 12 points in varying arrangements, they all cost 3 special points to use (exceptionally good for 12 points), and they all lack a special square in their pattern. You don't want to play them normally if you can help it because it lowers your ability to build up special points and ideally you want to wait until the very last turn to minimize how much your opponent can respond. Having more than one is clunky but having none is a huge detriment. You'll find most of the NPC decks also run exactly 1 and I think this is a good idea to follow. The rest of your composition should primarily be 8+ cards with 4-5 13+ cards with the goal of blocking off your opponent asap. The kind of shapes you want largely depends on the map you're playing on so I like to make decks catered to different maps. You should have a few small cards, especially sub weapons, to fill in areas and build special. Which ones depends on the mains you've chosen and how easily you can combo with them to get special points. Edit for a bonus tip: If you defeat most NPCs 30 times on level 3 you unlock their sleeves! So if you're interested in 100% completion of this game I recommend you level up on level 3 NPCs instead of other player's decks. It's typically easier to fight other player's and they give more experience so it will go faster but you get no extra unlocks for it.

There's a route to table turf from right next to Grizzco! Facing the entrance, if you go right, you'll find a tiny alley that leads straight to table turf. It's at least a little shorter than your current route

I think I know why Chara likes TableTurf. It's literally just how a match is played distilled into card form. You rush mid to make sure your team controls the stage, and with tableturf. Being unable to take mid fast enough often leads to the opponent sneaking behind, and now you have to focus on what's going on in your base instead of controlling and exerting pressure on the opponent. And the easiest way to turn a tableturf match in your favor of you got blocked off, is by using your special to break through. You can ink base once you control mid, take that, base inking memes. Honestly, it's a great gamemode.

I can think of a few ways that they could possibly make a physical version, but even better would be for them to come out with a mobile app version.

Tableturf has been developing it's own really good subculture in the game. I love to see it. Cryptidcultist has been a really helpful creator for teaching the game with advanced strats and deck building. I hope she does the tier list video idea you suggested.

I didn't play tableturf for a while because I thought it's just something on the side if you're bored, but after playing it it's actually very addictive and very fun and more people should definitely try it

Whenever you are tired of hair pulling ranked modes, this is a great way to wind down. No stakes, simple card fun. As a MTG nerd, I love this

I also like that you can challenge anyone you see out in the square holding a deck of cards, even though it's just AI controlling one of their decks.

Is it just me, or does the AI become quite challenging at higher levels?

The biggest tip for Tableturf I can give is to bring at least one Special card. They don't have special spaces and are always worth 12, but they are very cheap to use specials for their size, as they only require 3 points.

I seriously want to see PvP TableTurf. I can genuinely see all sorts of strategies being applied and I really want to know what the meta would turn out to be.

i really like how the special weapon cards are designed to be used best as a special move they have no special spaces of their own and only cost 3 special points to use (other 12-space cards all require 5) so it's best to use them on the final turn, since any special points you'd gain on the final turn from a card that DID have special spaces would just go to waste

About time this mode gets some recognition that it deserves

I'm glad you're liking this mode! I remember you were always saying you didn't care about this mode and didn't wanna try it out. There's a channel I found that made videos about each of the characters you can play against and what to do as well as general strategies and the last video in her series included her giving her thoughts about every single card that exists so far. If you wanna learn about getting better I'd definitely recommend watching those videos. I can't remember the channel name off the top of my head though

Hey Chara! Quick advice for building a Table turf deck! A good deck contains 3 small cards (1-5), 6 medium cards (6-10), and 6 large cards (11-17) Give your deck more bigger cards for aggressive play styles, and less shaped cards for a deck more focused on blocking! Any card can work for each of these categories so choose what card you want!!

Fun fact: there is a place upstairs in the main lobby that looks perfect for table turf online!! I think we all know what’s going to happen

At first I thought this mode would be underwhelming but it turns out I’m kinda addicted to this lol. Great vid!

Good tips: 1. Cards based off in game specials only cost 3 special points for 12 squares of coverage but have no special square. 2. Burst bomb is the worst card in the game instead use a Special attack with a 3 space cards next to a nearly completed special square. You get an extra coverage with the same special gain. 3. Most cards are 12 spaces so 11 coverage cards are insanely good to get priority in contested areas while 13 coverage cards almost always loose priority. 4. Build your deck off of cards that fit together and get 2 special points when placed together like suction bombs and mudmouth or maws (against a wall) and octo stamp.

It's interesting seeing you try a new game for the first time, and seeing how you approach learning mechanics and developing strategies With splatoon you're so far ahead of me it's hard to keep up, but this was very relatable

It's underrated bc the game doesn't freaking tell you where to find it or how to play it, so people are straight up missing it -From, a guy who literally had to Google how to play the game bc I couldn't find it anywhere (yes I looked in the abandoned photoshoot backlot area outside, it wasn't there)

I conveniently just got a Custom Card commissioned, which plays into my point that the beauty of this game is that it’s simple, fun, and it’s EXTREMELY easy to customize. Currently my comm was cosmetic, but if people were willing to go the distance, we could code custom cards in, or even make this irl like you mentioned! (Something I may dot may not be working on 👀) and then, using the current cards we have to go off of, the possibilities are limitless! It’s amazing the levels of creativity this game holds, and it makes the experience all the more fun ^^

I find having many chargers and scopes, maybe dynamo roller, to get in is an effective strategy. Once you've secured the space, burst bomb and fizzy, any sort of small card of simple structure, work well with chargers' linearity to build special points.

Funnily enough I saw the video in my reccomendations and it got me to remember Tableturf War being a thing so I went to try it again. That title is 100% correct

The title of this video is indeed correct. I've had my share of fun with table turf, and I'll be so glad when they introduce the online/multiplayer component, cuz I would like to be able to play against a human.

So I love the deck building in Tableturf. You have so much freedom in what you want to play. All brands? Sure. All weapons? No problem. All salmonids? Go for it. All octarians? I don’t think there are enough cards for that, but sure. I looked up how best to build decks, and what I found was this: Use 6 cards that are 5 or lower, use 6 cards that are 12 or higher, and 3 in between. That gives you enough to push in and block off early game, and enough to fill up gaps late game. My deck that follows this format usually wins with no passed turns, so I’d say it works pretty well. Also be aware of the nightmare that is box seats. You’re gonna need a dedicated deck for just that map.

the only complaint i have about tableturf is the lack of multiplayer. i think this would be a perfect side mode if we could just play it online. i’m sure they’ll add this in an update, but it’s weird that it wasn’t there from the start

Chara, if you want tips, I recommend using lots of big cards with cards like Smallfry, Burst Bomb, and Curling Bomb to get those small areas. Cutting off your opponent is key.

I went on a spree of playing a lot of tableturf. Then i grinded out jel la fleur's sleeves and ive been kinda burned out ever since.

Blocking the opponent off is an interesting idea. My my strategy is to charge special and use those special weapon cards because of their low cost and high amount of points

I would love to play this in person, but I can only see it as a board game with pre-made pieces. In the VG you can see they have small squares on the table to put on the board, bit that would leave a lot room for error for normal players

My reaction to Tableturf not being on the quickmap: Curiouser and Curiouser... I knew it sounded familiar, Blokus! My mami called it Tetris, because of the Aesthetic. It honestly looks like you did better than I did. I need a tierlist too. I'll look it up. He didn't know when I knew. I mean, I still don't have nearly as great technique as you do though I most certainly figured out the rules through trial, error and observation, by being "Smarter than the smarties, tougher than the toughies and sharper than the sharpies." If stamp is good, then the world and thus the Joker, has truly gone wild.

table turf is everything i could want from a splatoon card game, but ive just been playing it less once leveling up became a grind. makes me wish it had more music and bg variety to make matches feel less samey, and card descriptions to really make them more enticing as collectables and viewing them

The problem with a tier list is that all the cards would be situational so the big man card with 17 turf points isn’t going to help at the end, but a splat bomb is really good with 3 points , while it’s the complete opposite at the beginning. I think the best way to categorize something is about how easy it is to fit into most situations, and how well it can play with other cards, along with the special point cost. For example: my favorite card is the triple inkstrike because it’s good for fitting in to places and only requires I think 3 or 4 special points, so it’s great as a latch ditch effort. But what do I know, I’m just a kid!

i started begrudgingly grinding tableturf to get the emote, but then a couple matches deep i got hooked and now i play it more that actual matches LMFAO

It is a bit weird. I don’t understand some of the rules involved quite yet, however it does have some potential. I’d like to see more rewards that can be used elsewhere, such as ability chunks.

a tip id like to give is that because your special allows you to place your card over *any* turf, you can use your cards over your own turf. Why would you want to do that? well if you set up your cards right, one special point (most bomb cards) can net you 2-4 points back. so you gain special point instead of losing them. another is useing your orange blocks defensively. they also count as uninkable turf (unless they overlap. then the lesser ones is removed). ink can prevent them from pushing forward, but special blocks prevents them from pushing with their own specials also... if this was a real game id imagine the play would be both players show their cards, and the lower value card gets to place their blocks first. and using a special allows them to remove a turf of equal or less blocks of the card. ties are handled by a coin flip
