Tacoma 2nd Gen Towing Mods and Review TRD Sport Toyota 05-11 4.0L 

Thank you for making this video. Too many new Tacoma fans online infatuated with the newest 3rd generation 3.5 liter V6 engine model. The 2nd generation is a workhorse!

I have a 09 TRD Sport 4X4 bdl cab long bed and a tandem axle equipment trailer, 16' deck with a 2' dovetail that in itself is quite heavy. I have towed it from Va. to Fl. three times so far, one return trip I brought back a 96 V8 Explorer without any issue. I don't have overload springs or a brake controller and never had any issues. I do have a 10K rated hitch with the 2 5/16 ball adjusted to keep the weight on the trailer. I usually run around 500# of tongue weight, locally I tow my John Deere 1025R with the loader and backhoe. I'm looking for a camper and livestock trailers now, however they will probably only be about 16'. I want something with tandem axles. Single axle trailers put more tongue weight on the truck whereas tandem axle trailers carry their weight. I currently have 212,000 miles on my Taco and the Michelin LTX LT tires were installed at 58,000 miles so the tires have over 150,000 miles on them right now, I figure that I will buy another set after these hit 200K, I run 60# of tire pressure, they are rated at 80# however that would make Taco ride hard. I drive 130 miles a day to work 4 days a week and make 3 trips to Fl. a year at around 1,700 miles, that is like the minimum mileage. I just put a Banks "Cat back" exhaust system on my truck due to a rusted muffler, it is 3" stainless steel that uses all the factory hangers and was a breeze to install. I highly recommend the system as I have seen 1 MPG improvement in fuel economy and that is if I keep my foot out of it, because it sounds great and has a lot more power. I just ordered the TRD cold air intake so I expect to see more improvements in economy and performance once that is installed.

You have everything but a weight distributing hitch... Hope your rig tows much better than your audio projects... Just sayin'...

I received a question about the tires I'm using. I have "LT" or Light Truck, load range D tires on the truck. LT tires are recommended on a truck in lieu of a "P" or Passenger tire because of the added strength and capacity. Make sure you check into this when buying tires.

While this video was very informative, I have a question that may seem extremely simplistic. I recently bought a used 2014 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner automatic and all I really have to tow is a Yamaha jet ski. While I know it can tow the ski, what drive should I pull it in? Standard 4D, 3, or 2L? I want to know what is easiest on the transmission if towing a jet ski. Thanks.

I have a 2017 Tacoma offroad and i want to tow a 21ft ski challanger. what's your thoughts based on the fact that you are already towing with a tacoma. granted that your and mine are different years but i'd still like your input. Do you think i'll be okay? I've been using a 2012 Sierra 2wd for towing till now but come summer i plan on towing with the tacoma.
