2016-2019 most ideal year range for the Tacoma. Just enough technology and not overly complicated

I purposefully bought a 23 Tacoma TRD Off Road, double cab, 6’ bed with the Premium and Technology pkgs. I wanted the tried and true Reliable and Durable Naturally Aspirated 3.5L V6. I’ve added the OTT and a cold air intake. My TRD now has 318 horsepower and 295 lbs ft of torque at 2,300 RPM. We were wanting to wait until 26-28 of the redesigned Tacoma until I found out that Toyota was dropping the N/A V6 and installing the 4cyl Turbo. At my age and the low mileage I drive each year, my 23 TRD will be the Last truck I’ll ever have to buy.

Ive had my 24 TRD OF premium package for 4500 miles so far and love everything about it. ya it has a 4 cylinder engine and its easy to just call it crap, but man do I have fun driving it. Love the sport mode and how responsive it is.

The sport mode is really responsive! It is easy to criticize what you haven’t tried yet. Very few who I have heard that have test driven the 4th gen don’t like it.

Yea, drove both, own one and won’t ever consider getting rid of my 2022 Tacoma pro for any 4gen Tacoma. No thanks.😳

Ive also driven both. Own the 4th gen. Multiple family member own the 3rd gen. There’s nothing wrong with the 3rd gen, for me personally the 4th gen just feels better. Maybe I’m biased, but I wouldn’t have bought it if I didn’t think it felt better. Engine feels awesome. I was bothered at first by the 4 cylinder but once I drove it my whole opinion changed.

@@mattheinbaugh46 It’s cool that the 4th gen werks for you. I went in when I test drove a 4th gen Tacoma trd off-road (premium packaged) with the optimistic mindset of considering trading my “paid for” 2022 trd pro Tacoma for the re-design however other than the low end torque, I felt it was no more powerful than my current 2GR-FKS engine and also unfortunately noticed how cheap the interior plastics were and overall, how hurried and rushed the appearance of the truck felt. Again, glad you love yours but I think I’ll wait til either I wear out my current 3rd gen or wait til Toyota comes out with the 5th gen; whenever that might be.😳

First off.... We are practically neighbors. I have a '19 pro. I did the OTT a little over a year ago and it made my truck drive like a whole new vehicle. It's definitely worth it. Last note... The wireless charger in the 3rd gen has always been garbage. I do use wireless charging everywhere except in my truck.

It's gonna last 5 years? You sure about that? Nobody knows yet since it's all new. Good luck. I'll keep my 3rd gen till it dies!

Absolutely sure! This engine has been in use for a while at Toyota/Lexus. And the warranty is 5 years!

Unfortunately, It just boils down to the power plant; i.e. the 4-cylinder turbocharged/turbocruncher engine. You just can't feel good about a small engine with the increased reliability and maintenance problems of a turbocharger crammed into a heavier/beefier chassis. You can argue til hell freezes over that Toyota has proven this engine in other vehicles and that they've been using turbocharged technology for years but this new engine will never be as reliable and dependable compared to the V6 2GR-FKS engine. And also, this new engine will be overstrained and overworked in the short and long term which will result in increased engine/turbocharger failure. True, the outgoing V6 engine is not the best designed V6 on the planet but it is by far, will outlast, outperform (long-term), and out function ANY turbocharged power plant.

Used 2023 Tacoma for about $40k and new 2024 Tacoma for a high trim, $50k. Hard to save money buying a used Toyota, so maybe I can get my value letter selling my new truck down the line

Owned a 2019 for 44K miles. Never again. I have no idea what people see in these things. Mine was an unscheduled maintenance nightmare. I’ll never own another.

3rd gen is a primitive, fatiguing driving experienced compared to comfy 4th gen.
