Toyota's OEM Roof Rack is not only good looking, but also super functional. Install time is easily under 45 minutes. Check it out now with my short video.
WOW!! I thought so, you video just clarify me about the pre-drill holes for the bolts. Thanks for your great video, very self explanatory, really appreciate it
HOLY MOLLY!!! So the truck comes predrilled should one want to install a roof rack? I did not know that....LOL. I though you had to drill holes into the roof of the truck....LOL. I feel so dumb now...LOL. Thanks for sharing. I learned something new today, that is for sure!!! Now for sure I'm going to install a roof rack for my Toyota Tundra. I love my truck!!! Once again, thanks for sharing your expertise and valuable information with us, its much obliged.
I want to order this roof rack! Thanks for the very informative video. I didn’t think it would be this easy. What model of Yakima is this. I have the same cab as yours. Thanks again
Great looking TACO, good vid,,,, but 1 question,, you didn’t show how the “washers” were installed in detail.. 5 of them & was there any possibility of water leaking in that channel(s)? Thanks LD
Wild question. That brack that’s holding it seems narrow enough to fit my Toyota hatchback. Other than any other random issue, does anyone think it absolutely wouldn’t fit?
OK, I must be dense and need a little help. The side rail that sits upon the base (which is bolted to truck) swings over to the other side and fits into the hole on the other side. But with the cheap OEM rack I bought what do the bolts mount to? I only have a have a long bolt but it doesn't attach to anything. Any ideas?
There's a bracket for each side that is attached to the roof using 4 pink bolts and 4 rubber washers. The rails fit on the brackets and have 6 long blue bolts and 6 rubber washers which attach to the roof. The 4 short blue bolts attach the rails to the brackets. The one long bolt attaches the swing arm crossbar on the passenger side. The driver side swing arm crossbar comes already attached to the rail so that's why there's only one long bolt.
Hello brother this is nick writing you from chandler Arizona, have question 4u how hard is to installed the roof on the Tacoma , no need professional person anyone who like it this job, can du the instaletion, have a Toyota Tacoma 2008 but I take to the body shop for full body painting, and after that I need installed new roof rack similar then yours.. no need a drill right. ?? Please gimm a hand
peaceguru84 they are the factory rails from Toyota ... any Toyota dealer can order... also check prices online and most dealers will match the price for you if you ask nicely.
Thanks for this video, installed on my 2021 this weekend. However, I can’t seem to find any Yakima’s or Thule’s that are compatible with the OEM roof rack system on the ‘21...did I make a big mistake of buying this thing?
I have seen other rack install videos, where people drill/cut through the weather stripping as to keep it on the truck. Would that be possible with this rack? Or do you remove the weather stripping permanently? TIA
Doesn't look possible. A lot of it replaces the factory weatherstripping. I see no reason to use both. You end up ruining the factory weatherstripping if you drill through it. If you just take it off, you can re-use it.
Btw, those people who were cutting the factory weatherstripping were installing a "Prinsu" style roof rack. One of the requirements of the Prinsu rack is that it reuses your oem weatherstripping, but it needs to be cut. With the oem roof rack, there is no cutting involved. Since it was made by Toyota, it was designed to take the place of the original weatherstripping so that you can reuse it if you ever decide to take off or sell your Toyota roof rack.
Great video!!! After you installed the racks, did you experience and water leaks? I want to installed them into my 2014 Tacoma but I want to make sure that there are no leaks. Thanks!!
Use rtv sealant in the bolt holes and on top of the bolts after you screw them in. Also, switch out the foam washers that come with the roof rack, for some 1/4" diameter rubber washers. You may want to swap all of the bolts that came with the rack to something stainless steel. You may want to change it to a Phillips style bolt as well. The main thing is to use a silicone sealant and to make sure the bolts and threads are covered.
just noticed a leak this morning after an entire day of rain....driver and passenger seat belts were soaked. I installed it 2 months ago and used silicone on all attached screws. I'm removing the entire roof rack and sealing it up with more silicone. a water test is needed to see if this is the problem. I can't think of anything else that would cause it!
Mines was leaking from the passenger side after the rack the install. Hope yours doesn't do the same. I've since solved the problem with gasket and thread sealer.
I did install my OEM roof rack myself. I followed the instructions meticulously. However, I noticed that when heavy rain came down, my headliner interior got all wet. I’m not sure if that's a poor design from Toyota, but I was let down.
Jason Carey I was going to ask the same thing I would imagine you could avoid a little possibilities of leak if you use marine glue around the area that you both down and rather than answer a question with a question to the guy who made the video I would have to say yes he’s talking about whether or not it leaks inside the cab through the threaded holes that are on top of your roof that you installed the roof rack on
Is this the pretty much same installment with the older model (2015) as well or specifically new model tacoma. What differs from the old and new model?
Hi Raymond, it was so long ago and it was at my local dealer in St. Louis. I would recommend an online search and then ask your local dealer if they’ll honor the price or give a discount. Most dealers will and you’ll save on shipping. Hope this helps!
cttc1016 yes, I did. However I have no video on that install. The Yakima part (product name) I used was TimberLine with the Corebar. TimberLine is a great product that wraps securely (and locks) around the side bar/rail (or existing side rails). I’m a fan of Yakima products and enjoyed the setup. Hope that helps.
@@LoyalDriven This is exactly the route I'm looking to take as well. I just received the OEM rack today. Did you (or can you for that matter) add a wind fairing to the Timberline system off the OEM rack? I've heard from others that the OEM rack when deployed makes quite a bit of wind noise. Great install video!
@@LoyalDriven The timberline looks like it needs to wrap around a raised side rail but the OEM is flush mounted. Can you talk me through how you attached this to your OEM rail? Thanks!
Which slots do the blue and red screws go into? Also some youtubers mentioned that they had to bend the front bracket 1/4" down to get the rails to stay flushed in the front. Did you have that issue?
solja8war pink (red) bolts are for the front frame portion, blue bolts are for the rest of the install. I saw that folks recommended bending but I did not and have not noticed any issues (no wind noise and no water leaks).
Thanks LoyalToyota. I got mine installed only to find out that the position of the crossbars cannot fit to hold a cargo box. In addition I've heard this roof rack is not sturdy enough for any cargo boxes. More for snowboards and bikes. =/
