Some are going to disagree with this video, but i stand firm on this. 🏴 And some ppl are only hearing what they wanna hear. Obviously we all must get fit.....i said that.
I agree all the way I’ve never been able to gain much weight over my 153 it happens to me too I’m to small or short to be of assistance in any situation I dnt have enough ass to push thru all that stupid crap
The overall problem is that too many people believe that their opinions are the only correct opinion. Hurricane Helene really humbled me. I used to believe that what I needed in SHTF was lots of guns, ammo and Expensive NVGs and some food and water. My opinions have changed because I didn’t have a generator or extra gasoline. I didn’t have a chainsaw or anyway to clear trees. I had been preparing for a fantasy instead of a real scenario that was more likely to happen.
I think it’s true we’ve all fallen somewhat into the fantasy world because it’s the “fun” aspect (not because the actual times are fun but it’s just fun to go practice with stuff at the range). It’s also what comes up most in disaster fiction, where the real logistics often are never brought up. I’m not sure from your comment if it’s just observing what’s needed in the impacted area, or first hand experience of it. I hope for a safe and faster recovery if you’re in the thick of it.
@@timunderbakke8756 Im in an impacted area but we weren’t in the thick of it. my area had a bunch of wind damage. Trees falling on power lines, blocking roads and occasionally on people’s houses. We also had over 110 snapped power poles in our county. That along with trees falling on power lines meant we went without power for a week. Some people went 2 weeks. Some places got power back within a few days. As gas stations got their power back, they quickly ran out of gas. For about 3-4 days all the gas stations in our town were sold out and we had to drive 30 minutes to get gas for our vehicles, tractors, chainsaws and generators. Oh and we still can’t buy much propane because most of it is being sent to NC and TN. What little we do get is getting bought up quickly. So Im telling people safely stockpile gasoline and propane (if you can) because in shtf, thats the first thing to go. We could still find some food and water in the stores but Gasoline and propane was sold out quick.
@@philrab Yes, these types of things are definitely eye opening. In my area we are good now. Thankfully we didn’t get hit as hard as the people in NC and TN. Our damage was mostly from wind while theirs was mostly from flooding. Im getting reports from volunteers up in western NC that Donation collection points are staying pretty full now. They still need propane though.
Amen brother! Keep fighting the good fight. This topic always makes me think of the song lyrics from that one Toby Keith song: I ain't as good as I once was That's just the cold hard truth I still throw a few back, talk a little smack When I'm feelin' bullet proof So don't double-dog dare me now 'Cause I'd have to call your bluff I ain't as good as I once was, but I'm as good once As I ever was
And the muscles for go usually don't show very much...ab a yr or so ago I could do multiple sets of 100 pushup back to back and 40 something pullups every day and my arms were not large...I miss being that size and level of fitness
@@brotherbrovet1881 overly large muscles represent the ability to generate huge amounts of force for few repetitions. The ability to consistently generate large amounts of force over a longer period of time results in smaller, densely packed muscles.
@furrbearrapedmycat7223 You won't see a buff marathon runner. In my experience the guys with gym muscles can lift heavy things... but throw 100lb ruck on them and see how many miles they go before they start bitching.
Being humble, well disciplined, and positive is what will draws people to you. Thank you for addressing this problem that has existed for a long time. Iron sharpens iron.
"Today, everyone knows the price of everything. And yet know the value of nothing." That's Oscar Wilde being a gentleman when what he really meant was, "Say all the opinions you want. But when you come begging me for help, you'll show your true worth." Carry on, Marine.
Right on man,There are a lot of “fit” people that aren’t at all self reliant or mentally prepared, listening to the gatekeepers will cost people their lives and their families lives. I’d rather build people up and help them overcome than tear them down
Im a thai boxer and in pretty decent shape. I train pretty hard but I know some buddies who are on the hefty side and would absolutely annihilate me tactically.
You can start training even if you're in a rascal scooter. Spending months getting into great shape at the expense of learning anything else is short sighted. All that said, in literally any disaster/shtf/whatever being in better shape will keep you alive longer, while making it easier to stay in good health in austere conditions.
The greatest message is to pick you're brother up , the power of positivity. The division and negativity are like the cracks in the wall of unity . In the end we all stand before the creator no one man better then the next , but to be judged on our actions against our selves and our brothers and sisters. Great video brother!!!
I think its funny, our community has devolved into "Grayman" mall ninjas that trash talk other people for being better mall ninjas with better equipment.
@@johnpawlak7350 Its not just that, Its that "Gray man" is becoming prepper orthodoxy even though there is very little evidence it is effective. Criminals are less likely to target people wearing tactical clothing. This is a fact. There are some situations where gray man theory would be applicable- like if you were in a nonpermissive environment in a hostile foreign country. That, and- I can sport a "Gray man" from a mile away anyway.
Greyman literally just means being capable and covert. Too many people misunderstand the concept and just use it to mock people that want to have better capability in a populated environment.
Hey no offense to you military guys- But does anyone notice its always a REMF that chases people around the mall for wearing multicam pants screaming "Stolen Valor! TAKE MUH PANTS OFF" and the actual combat veteran will be like "Cool pants, bro". Meanwhile a lot of the REMF's are engaging in stolen valor themselves because they say they went places they didn't go etc. I just think its cringe to tell people what they are allowed to wear. I think its also cringe to treat grayman theory as a one size fits all orthodoxy.
As Always Josh you are spot on brother... I have seen a bunch of veterans who go around telling non veterans that they have no business training.. as well as the comments you reference,,,,,, it seems to me we had a seasoned army on our soil back in the late 1770s who ended up being taken out by a bunch of farmers and country folk... so never underestimate a determined individual...he may just be the one that turns out your lights.... good speech my friend....as always SSR
Well said bro. Age is the great equalizer, and many of the trolls and d-bags acting like turds are generally much more of the typical American much worse off than anyone out there doing the things health-wise. Help each other. Go outside. Be the master or your local terrain. Exercise your mind and use critical thinking. Do the things.
You made your point and backed it up, honestly I agree, I am also overweight yes and I am also in Excellent fighting shape from functional exercises three times a week and that's all. That also includes weapons training. Just do it, don't just look it.
One of the first things I learned when I competed in my first triathlon was that it’s as much or more about mental fitness then physical fitness. Ideally you’ll have both but mental strength goes a long way towards success in all things.
Most of the gun and gear dudes dont have any other real skill that id find valuable if they came to my community. I applaude all the Fat Bottom Boys out there gitin it done and showing skills. They will be welcomed here
You do you mate. Always remember Kris Kristoffersons' song "Sam Song" "I have been with the best that the bastards could muster From Danny the Dildo to Sidney the Snake And I feel like a working girl pausing to wonder Just how much screwin' the spirit can take...."
I've been infuriated by the Shyt said about my Buddy J . Those Tubers who act like they're the only experts are long gone from my list. Also the Delusion that only Vets are the Gatekeepers is Hilarious.
Physical fitness is only one of many categories of preparedness that one should employ before spending thousands of dollars and dozens of hours on tactical LARPing.
@@ModernFrontiersman nope. Every dollar and every hour and every square foot of space has an opportunity cost. For the vast majority of people who aren’t going to dedicate more than a few dozen hours and a few thousand dollars to prepping, shouldn’t even come close to much beyond basic inexpensive firearm fundamentals, if that.
I see it all the time in this community. Some of us are overweight because we got broken doing the things in real life. That doesn’t mean we can’t continue to train ourselves and others. Those CrossFit of the week types are just going to be somebody else’s loot drop when 💩 hits the fan because they didn’t train and build community.
I totally agree with you. Without getting too deep, here I am. I grew up in the deep woods, I spent most of my days alone. I hunt, fish, garden and gather, i understand soil PH levels and what grows good in what. I make my own smoke salmon and prepare my wild game kills. I have medical training and then it gets much darker from there. As a veteran myself nothing makes me shake my head more at my "tacticool" colleagues spewing on about their tactical prowess and neck wetting abilities. They seem to salivate at the idea of SHTF so they can don all their thousands of dollars of gear and get all Ramboed. I have learned a few things because i have lived a few things like watching UN aid trucks get abandoned to the tribal warlords who take every last crumb. I have seen desperation first hand. I have experienced the best and the worst of man. I prep with those weekend warriors in mind. They think somehow that veterans status gives them an edge or an automatic place at the table. I know that I served to satisfy a need in ME. I do not need nor do I want praises for my past. I have given far more in my civilian life than I did then. My wife and I formed our neighborhood watch group many years ago with SHTF in mind and in teaching others to prep makes them much less likely to become those desperate to feed their own. I have experienced enough violence and death to not look gleefully toward more. I do not ever post like this but something about your video just kinda gut punched me. Best wishes to you and yours in these troubling times.
Personally, I haven't seen any of this everyone is talking about. But then again, you are who you surround yourself with lol. And heart disease is one of the most painful ways to go out
Rock on man, yeah to many tactical preppers say you have to be elite to live. Just get out and train, find others and take classes. Endurance will increase and weight will start to come off. ModernFrontiersman, you are aces in my book, I owe you a beer my friend.
Man who cares what people say. They don't buy my food or pay my bills Big deal you got a belly , my dad always said, you need to build a good shed over your tools
Love your channel. You are very correct. I'm in about the same physical shape as you due to a back injury. But I do a LOT of physical things at work that still keep me in shape.
Don't pay attention to the big swole Meatheads, work strength training but also work on long term stamina , throw a 40 pound pack on and hike some trails , move fast and quiet as possible just for the fun of it build your core and your legs. It will help tremendously.
I would ask them what is your skill set outside of the gym or shooting range. I understand it takes effort to stay fit and people have a certain amount of pride in themselves for doing so. The problem I see with people like that is they are inner focused and that is a red flag. I 100% agree if your prepping isn't for the care taking of others you wont make it far if something goes down. I see a lot of these tactical guys who probably couldn't change a starter on their truck or have any knowledge of food production and preserving. They have slick studios for RU-vid and cool gear. If a person has a fully decked out AR and doesn't have a canner and jars full of food I have to smile.
Well young man, if I had a son I'd want him to act just like you . Standing up for folks is very important in my way of thinking. It will likely get me whacked someday as odds never seem to enter my head. Sometimes you just have to start swinging an forget the talking. Semper Fi marine. Thanks for what you do
When I was in the army all my drill sergeants had "dad bods" not Greek gods. As long as you can sprint a distance, ruck, and move your weight then some and THINK quickly you should be fine. Plus in an actual emergency situation where you have to be self reliance if you think 1800s homestead that's your goal. If you can accomplish that and keep yourself warm, hydrated, and fed your doing great.
I completely agree. Unfortunately, this is common in every endeavor. People think by putting others down it somehow signals that they're more knowledgeable and better. I think it's immature and comes from insecurity.
Makes me wonder at a certain point if some of these tactical elitists intentionally or unintentionally pushing a psyop to discourage guys. Through your gears isn’t good enough or you don’t take enough roids etc etc. I see on my channel as well. I’m pretty lean and still get guys saying I’m “too skinny” so can’t ever make them happy I guess lol. I seen the same thing with other Marines when I was in. I also wonder if because a lot of these tactical elitists really honestly don’t have any real preparedness like farm, homestead, preps, skills etc so they just have to hype up gear/muscles while they live in an urbanized apartment
I went to the range today with my $700 rifle and shot quarter size groups at 100yds with a sig romeo MSR red dot while the guy next to me with a $2,500 SBR with an eotech who's groups were bigger than my head at 25yds 😅😅😂
Hear! Hear! Spot on. Lots of reasons to be out of shape. Help your brothers (and sisters) make the best of a bad situation. Show a thumbs up of encouragement instead of a slap in the face.
Im only four years into this and its fun in my honest opinion. Ive learned self sufficiency isnt sustainable long term. Itll take a community and we'll have to cater to eachothers strengths
This is glorious! Amen, brother! Subbed! You're the kind of neighbor I want! YT deletes comments as fast as I can write them! MINDSET is far more important than fitness. I see so many of these tactical ninjas who have NO IDEA what is coming. 99% of these arrogant BOYS have never seen ANY kind of combat - and I don't mean Iraq or Afghanistan. I mean have never even been punched in the face. Have never been in any kind of conflict where they were actually scared and had to fight to protect themselves or somebody they care about. I know how to run a rifle. I can hit a pie plate at 600 yards. And I also know a whole world of things necessary to cope with SHTF that these gym rats and gear hogs will never know.
Where I live now it’s tornadoes, flooded basements and some snow storms. I need a chainsaw, generator, gas, tarps, power vacuum, dehumidifier, shovels, wood stove and food/water.
Amen Sir! I'm 40 and I'm in ok shape but what makes me feel good about myself is that I out perform and can last longer than any 20 year old at work as they complain that they are tired . I have learned to embrace the suck with a smile.
There’s a huge difference between being physically capable with some extra body fat (fat but can run, can do push ups, can carry heavy things at distance) And being fat but physically useless. The former with become slim if things get bad. The ladder will be at best, a liability. The portion of the population that doesn’t have the discipline to build physical capability or limit calorie intake now, won’t magically become dedicated after the fact.
I had an armchair operator call me overweight and doubted I was in the military and said "if I was, it was near the chow hall" as funny as that it, I would challenge that guy any day and I ain't in the shape I was in when I was a 20 yr old combat vet. Hell, I'm 40 with 4 kids, a job, a business, and I still train. Farm strong over gym strong every day. Forget those trolls. The down fall of mortality is pretty obvious, and these dooshbags only ad to it.
Josh, I’m right there with you brother. I was in a near fatal motorcycle accident 4 years ago. I’ve got torn ligaments in my right shoulder and left ankle. I’ve gained a few pounds and still walk with a limp. I’m still limited with how long I can walk before the pain becomes intolerable. It pisses me off when I hear RU-vid channel owners talk trash about people being overweight (I.e. Gruntproof). There’s no reason for it. People have legitimate reasons why they can’t do what they want to do. All I can say about this is, I’m trying. As far as Randall goes, wait until you get to be my age. The pains get worse as you get older, and it takes a Hell of a lot longer to heal up from older injuries.
Agreed brother 🤘🏻. Being fit and looking good aren’t always the same thing. Skill gets the job done above all else. As a 50 yr old Commercial Electrician on big construction sites I can still keep up or out-work most of the young bucks, even with a little beer belly.
Theres definitely a difference between functional fit and gym fit. Get out and do what you want and think will better yourself and those in your care, constant overall forward progress. 👍
Yes sir I agree, I was in the Army and a cav scout 19 delta recon and I have seen that being huge just slows you down, combat your definitely going to need stamina for long term , keep moving , where most big guys burn out quick.
Dude cope harder. Get in shape. It's not hard at all. For most people it's as easy as cutting certain foods out of their diet. Educate yourself on what you put into your body every single day. That's far more important than what *might* happen.
To try to look at things in the most generous way possible I think that some people believe the trash talking is helping motivate others to get into better shape. More and more people seem to be subscribing to the notion that shaming and bullying are the best motivators. The thing is that works on some people, but on others it has the opposite effect and totally kills their motivation. That's why it's a terrible strategy to use with strangers on the internet, as there's know knowing how they'll respond to it. Of course there's also a bunch of people that are just jerks.
being mentally prepared is just as important as being physically fit, and for the veterans that are attacking civilians going out there and training if they're not out there rocking and training with their firearm and gear their skills could be lost. instead of attacking civilians they should be encouraging them and helping them
Right on. I'd say everyone should strive to be as fit as they can be, but that doesnt mean everyone will be cookie cutter images of each other. Life, age, injuries, disabilities, etc. All play a factor. I think it comes down to heart. I know guys I served with that are fit as hell but a cowards when it comes down to it.
I have extra respect for the overweight people- including the fat ones- out walking, jogging, lifting heavy stuff and otherwise and working to better themselves.
A little extra weight is no big deal, but smoking is! I'm 75 and overweight, was bone skinny until I hit my mid-forties and then gradually put the pounds on. Still do whatever I want and only take a vitamin D3 each day and nothing else. Beat that. As far as people bashing other people, just don't listen to them.
Brother, I NEVER made height & weight, but posted raw PT scores in my 30s higher than kids in their early 20s. It's gotta suck to get smoked on the 2 mile by an old man with a beer belly and a disability rating. 😂
Much rather have an overweight person like me that can run and gun then a dude thats super fit and doesnt know how to manipulate the rifle under stress. Good video brother. Semper fi (2/1 Golf Co.)
Right on. There are ppl that is all they do its their only way they to feel tough. Know that the feeling is fleeting because deep down they know they are cowards. They hate themselves most of all for it
There's a reason people say "if your not fit your gonna die" You can have all the gucci gear but if you can't run or ruck extended distance, swim or lift heavy objects, none of it matters. This is not an opinion, this is biological and scientific fact. Those who are fit will outperform those who are not is physically stressful activities, and a gunfight is definitely a physically stressful activity!
I almost understand the meatheads in the sense that I recognize “a shtf is very bad, and you need as many advantages as you can get” However, there are so many other kinds of advantages that they may not be considering primarily because they’re leaning into their strengths, which in fairness is a very human reaction. Spoilers: big muscles won’t guarantee life any more than anything else. There are no guarantees in life aside from you will die, and you will have to then answer for the life you lived
The gun/tactical/survival community is full of jerks who are way too tacticool most of the time. It's the worst online. In stores and to people's faces, most people seem to be a lot better.
same thing with the gars in prison. I've called them out 4 at a time and when they see that there's going to be blood on the CEILING and it's NOT all gonna be mine, they don't want any.
Unfortunately in 2024 everyone has been groomed to be selfish, adversarial, and divisive. Even people that think they are not don't realize it; just another sad byproduct of smart phones and the internet. When you can self curate your content to your wants, needs, and biases it is hard to empathize with anyone else or even comprehend their perspectives.
Well said. These dudes that say things like that think that because they are in shape, they're some kid of operators, but I promise yall they're not. If they knew how much spec ops train, they would shut their mouths. I'm always skeptical of dudes who work a 9-5 and look like they're in great shape. That tells me you ain't getting to the range or out in the mountains, or hunting, or studying.
But..... My 4000 dollar AR and my crye aor10000 navy seal space shuttle door gunner plate carrier, set up exactly the way I saw a guy who sells coffee do it makes me a better person. Don't you know that? Did I mention that I'm a crossfitter????
I am ab to the point im ready for the shit to be over...i dont have family to protect and no freinds and you see the constant trash like you said every day...i want to be back in tip top shape and get back to distance running and being able to run 5min miles but i think those days are gone...ever since i had the rona i havent been right
Ya, don't listen to all the one trick ponies, most of those dudes got no skills other than what they did during a small window in time, nothing else to offer so they grasp at straws... You do you boo..💪
If anyone who's awake, not woke, shouldn't give two squirt of piss over another's opioin unless they are actually trying to help in a kind way? Advice is help if they are actually trying to help, however those who lack self confidence will always come at those who actually do because they feel less, as they should. These weak people are mad because others are doing better than them. Meanwhile I'm over here just doing my own thing not needing acceptance from another. Our self worth doesn't come from another man's opinion, it comes grom GOD! Little step's make a great path, do what you can every day to be a little bit better at your goal.
I worked out 6 days a week for over 30 years straight, practiced martial arts ( JKD ) for 11 years. there are more “ fat “ people in my classes than there are “ physically fit “ guys and I’ll tell you something, you cross one of those “ fat guys “ and I’ll guarantee you, you’ll be holding your head in your arms en route to the hospital. 😂😂😂
@@furrbearrapedmycat7223 yep. I know a couple also. Just because you are overweight, doesn’t mean you aren’t in shape, agile, fast or flexible. I mean, should one strive to lower their weight ? YES ABSOLUTELY but it certainly isn’t the be all, end all.
Thanks for the great insight. Some people are doing the best they can. Just trying and making improvements is a great start. Most people are doing nothing. At least some are getting off the bench and that is what counts imho. And the heck with the tacticool cultists. All silly Billy bs. I also despise the guntube wannabe tactical guys who make fun of people who can't afford a 3000 dollar AR. Its all clown shoe wearing nonsense.
