The Japanese Square-Enix online store sold a special Collector's Edition of Tactics Ogre Reborn for the Nintendo Switch, Sony Playstation 4 and PS5 versions of the game. This limited package sold out quickly, and contains some cool bonus items, as well as a beautiful box design. Take a look a the contents of this set, and listen to some of my first impressions of the game in this video. FIGHT IT OUT.

There's actually an English release for the art book scheduled for next year! I don't know if its updated to any degree, but still pretty exciting!

Yeah, I saw that! I'll try to find a way to pick that up as well. From what I remember, there's not much text in the book, but there are interviews, so it should be a treat for fans in the West. I'm hoping for some updated art from Reborn!

Looks like you have almost every piece of Tactics Ogre merch, but have you ever heard of the Fireseal Helm? When Atlus released the PS1 version in North America they held a similar contest to the one you mentioned with the glass pumpkin. Except it was just one person who could win and they won a custom medieval helm. I've tried to find it for years now to no avail!

You know, since you brought it up I do seem to remember such a competition. Not sure if it was advertised with the game or in a magazine, but my imagination is running wild trying to come up with an image of that helmet, if it was ever shown. Will definitely look into it, thanks!

I agree all those cards on the battlefield makes it look untidy but it does add some legit strategy, if you stack a few of those physical up cards it makes a big difference. Deciding if you want to go for one or just deny the enemy from getting one adds a lot. You said the game felt easy to you, but so far to me (mid Ch 2) it's feeling about the same. Guest AI is still fairly terrible :p My only issue about no random battles is that you won't be seeing some of those maps again after the initial story fights, since the training option is only open on the city titles.

After putting some more time into the game, I realize just how crucial it is to collect the buff cards (ch. 3 on, anyway). I didn't even realize there were no random battles until midway chapter 2...I thought I was just lucky and didn't move around so much. And yeah, the guest AI is bad--I think you can adjust it a bit, but I never bothered!

Nice unboxing video ! I remember the first time I saw Ogre Battle in a Nitendo Power magazine, I knew I wanted this game, I waited so long for this game and when I finally got it, I could not understand it haha, I tried many times, so many times to get into it and understand how to play it but I gave up, I also never had the patience back in the day to stick with Tactics Ogre. I don't think it is comparable but I played Final Fantasy Tactics and really like this one, I think I put like 80 hours into it before beating the game. But the Reborn version looks like the perfect time to jump into it and really play it seriously this time.

Final fantasy tactics is quite similar to tactics ogre gamed, so if you loved FFT you'll love this one.

As Nocturnal said, if you liked FFT, you'd like Tactics Ogre, especially this remaster. FFT was made by many Quest team members (at least that's what I always heard/assumed), and it always felt like a more forgiving Tactics Ogre to me. Hope you give it a try!

My biggest issue with the re-remake is the Undo Move button. I wish I could disable it, because my muscle memory is used to smacking left once for End Turn, and that extra press is killing my mojo. I also went looking for sprite filtering toggle, and can't wait for someone to undub this with the Saturn voices so I don't have to emulate the Saturn version.

Definitely something I'll be playing before too long. I'm pretty sure none of the games ever got a UK release. Maybe the PSP version. That collectors edition looks nice and swish.

I think box sets outside of Japan tend to be better, actually, but I'd be surprised if SE does anything particular special with this one in the West. Just doesn't have the same legacy, I guess.

@@ImportGamingFTW Nah sadly not, seen way too many high end Japanese LEs/CEs, we don't ever come close to the higher end Japanese sets. Which is ironic, since the only reason history remembers Tactics ogre at all, is because of the American fanbase sigh

No easy mode, but it's basically a more refined "easy mode" of the original. Hope you enjoy it--I suck at strategy games, too, but Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics just always clicked with me for whatever reason.

I'm surprised at the quality of the VA work. I think Denam & Vyce have way too similar voices, but outside of that knitpick, this is perhaps the third game in 30 years of gaming I didn't have to switch to Japanese.

It is really quite good. Last time I truly preferred the English options in a Japanese game was probably Lost Odyssey, where the option was there in the initial Japanese release!

The PSP added crafting which ended up being super time consuming. It made me quit when I tried replaying the PSP version recently. Has the crafting system been reworked in this version?

I don't remember the crafting so we'll from the PSP game, but it's a little time consuming here for crafting consumables, but not bad for everything else. You can craft from inventory, equipped items, craft all items that apply, and auto purchase any materials available in the shop. Finding rare materials will take up the most time, naturally.

Any word on how the Japanese voice acting compares to the Saturn version? I haven't looked at the cast list, but I'd imagine they had a higher budget for this version and have some good talent involved. (For Japan)

@@trymv1578 Oh, okay, that's kinda cool, I guess. (Anime reboots at least are usually seem pretty faithful to their source material/past iterations. Most western stuff I grew up with have new versions that look wildly different from the versions that are pretty unrecognizable from what I knew as a kid.)

I would love to see this on Xbox, strange how a lot of the modern games I like completely skip that system. I guess it's because it is way less popular in Japan than other regions, less so than the 360 was, even.

@@ImportGamingFTW Think Square is still testing the waters. Overdue though considering Sega seems to be in for the long haul. Pc and switch aren't a surprise. Now I've heard rumors that Sony pays more so it doesn't go to Xbox, but again just a rumor. Hope you are doing great man!

I think it might just be that I didn't take advantage of the fast forward feature, so things move quite slow (it's hard to go back after activating it). I haven't had any problems with lag except for a few maps where it seems like the cursor has a bit of a delay, possibly from weather effects...other than that, though, animations have been like butter.
