Our train today is made of both types of original Melbourne suburban electric stock. 8M and 24D are "dogbox" swing door cars, built in the 1880's and converted into electric multiple unit trains for the opening of the Melbourne suburban electrification in 1919. 472M is a sliding door tait car, a type of train built especially for the electrification scheme.
The models of these trains were almost entirely 3D printed.

This is without a doubt one of the most interesting model railways i have ever seen.

I LOVE how your railroad is so well incorporated into its surroundings! That last station's modern styling was also really interesting to see -- something neat that a lot of outdoor modelers don't attempt as a style.

God, this is de ja vu for me, as a teenage guy in 1985 my father and I decided to take a train ride to Hurstbridge one sunday. We started from Burnley, back then on sundays Epping & Hurstbridge trains departed from Flinders Street platform 1, not Princes Bridge. We got the Eltham Harris train, then we discovered a one carriage red rattler shuttle waiting on platform 1 at Eltham. As I loved trains we asked the driver if we could ride in the drivers compartment, he agreed so we stood behind him to Hurstbridge. Couldn't believe how old the controls looked. It made me think of my Grandfather who was the first driver of an Electric suburban train in the southern hemisphere in 1919 on the Esdendon to Elsternwick line which was later extended to Brighton Beach. Can't believe the detail and realism on this model railway. ✌️

As an Eltham local I certainly had to make the tait double ended M car, though it was a bit before my time. There's a decent chance we'll be able to ride to Hurstbridge on a tait double ended M car again in the not too distant future though!

Wonderful stuff, Alexander. Thanks for letting me know about this clip. I notice you have another short one featuring 472M so I'll watch that one now. Great way to spend part of a lazy Friday. Cheers and thanks again.🙂🙂🙂

Another great video Alexander! As others have said, the relaxing nature of your railway is addictive and always a pleasure to watch! The cars look great and how about brief clip on how they are made , and the traction motors? Is that a roll back on the grade at 6:40? Watching this a fourth time so far , with a cuppa and a strawberry Jam sandwich (with real butter of course) and you pick up more details every time! Cheers Gregg.

I definitely need to make some videos on the construction methods. It is indeed, that location is on a 1:20 grade. The motor controllers will use rheostatic braking to try and maintain a constant speed, but of course they can't hold the train stationary on a grade with rheostatic braking alone. There's future plans to rebuild this loop to be closer to level.

@@melbournesparks3828 That would be great to see sir! Did you see the Tait cars running recently? Tresleg posted a video on them and I thought of your video 🙂 Gregg.

What an awesome looking garden layout. Are those electrification gantry's round that station area at the 3:44 mark based on the ones NZR installed from the 1950's?? They look very similar to the ones that (Until these last few years) were a common site around the Wellington Metro network, And also down south when Christchurch and Otira tunnel were once electrified as well.

Yes well spotted, they are indeed based on Wellington. When I first visited Wellington in 2006 most of the network was still wood poles.

Je me suis abonné, il y a quelques mois. Un concept à contre-courant de ce qu'on voit d'habitude : impact minimum sur l'environnement avec peu d'aménagements, de constructions mais avec des images et une ambiance exceptionnelles. Bravo !

Might have mentioned this before, lived in Brighton Beach as a kid in the early sixties, one day some of us (no names, no pack drill) put all the loose seat covers from a slam door carriage into just one compartment....Monday morning commute might have been a bit uncomfortable?😂
