Join me on this relaxing macro session at the local nature reserve where I like to both observe and document fascinating species. In this episode I used my Canon 80D with the EF 100mm f/2.8L IS & increased its default magnification all the way up to 3X by stacking the NiSi58mm close-up lens and the Raynox DCR-250 snap-on lens.

Loved this vlog. The way you show us how you’re finding the subjects and then the absolute art and skill of getting the shot. So well filmed and edited. It’s like we’re there, with the sound around you too. Plus being able to identify the species easily. And that’s before you get to the actual photographs!! I just get amazed how you get this quality handheld!! So so interesting Peter. An amazing film, seriously. Loved the images and the content. A really brilliant watch. Your skill and total commitment to this shines through!!

You’re really a great macro photographer 😁 I really enjoy this on location stuff and how you first spot your subjects despite them being so tiny, I would probably not notice their existence lmao. Super sharp photos and I liked the details of the portugese millipede, so cool.

Amazing macro here as always Peter. Never tried the raynox because I thought they may degrade images but obviously they don't that much. Thanks for sharing

I think it’s pretty good, especially in he centre of the frame ( tbh don’t care too much abiut corners, especially when shooting at this magnification. Have a good 1 James!

Peter, you said you dont want to get bit by this species.. are they deadly?..... Peter, your photos are amazing and I always blown away at the way you can hold the subject in one hand and take the shot with the other. I move too much to do that. If you use your R7, you have more info to work with AND focus peaking. That last little spider that climbed on your back pack - that one looks deadly!!! LOL. Amazing photos as always. 🙏🤗💖
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto Год назад
Hey John. They are not deadly but their bite can be super painful. That last one isn’t too dangerous luckily:)) I have enabled focus peaking with the Laowa 25mm but it doesn’t seem to be working, maybe because of the lack of aperture coupling/zero electric contacts. Did it work for you? Maybe have to enable something in the menu? Will have a closer look again:) Thanks again! P.s. Have already had 3 sessions with the R7 , it’s awesome.
@JonnyPink65
@JonnyPink65 Год назад
@@peterviragphoto Peter, I make jokes because Australia has so many deadly spiders!!! Focus peaking does work for me and I find the AF using the Canon 100mm adapted to it is simply AMAZING. It could be a setting in the camera. The Laowa 25mm I have is and RF mount, but the other lenses I have are adapted EF lenses. Check the focus peaking setting.🤗🤗
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto Год назад
@@JonnyPink65 I have the focus set to manual on the body. I have MF peaking enabled and on “high” but can’t see anyhinf. Mine is an EF version. I didn’t even know they released an RF version of the 25mm, just checked haha.
@JonnyPink65
@JonnyPink65 Год назад
@@peterviragphoto That is how I have mine set as well. I will check my settings tomorrow. The advantage of all EF lenses is they still work on all you other cameras as well!!
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto Год назад
@@JonnyPink65 yep, that is why I won’t be selling any ef lenses as I’m still gonna keep both dslrs as backup and will be fun to compare too. P.s. Someone else was having the same issue albeit with sony for thr e mount with this lens so not alone LOL🙈

Was the male sac spider missing because he'd been eaten? Great shots, fantastic detail, and I'm still amazed how you get there handheld with such a razor thin depth of field.

@peterviragphoto Год назад
Hey mate, thanks heaps. Not sure about that but you very well might be right😀 I still got a few sessions recorded with these close-up lenses but in future videos Iwill be focusing on the R7 with both adapted lenses and a new RF ultra macro, should be fun!😜

Would you say that 100mm L with dcr / nisi stack produces sharper images than Laowa lens at 2:1?
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto Год назад
Hey there. I wouldn’t say sharper but in certain lighting conditions the microcontrast seems to be on par. The 100mm L lens is exceptional optically and you can push it quite far without introducing much diffraction/colour aberration and the image quality doesn’t seem to suffer much etc. By stacking diopter lens(es) on top of it. Cheers
@NaturesRealm-ys3im
@NaturesRealm-ys3im Год назад
@@peterviragphoto Thank you for such a prompt reply. I am struggling to decide wether it makes sense to get 100mm L while Laowa 90mm is able to do 2:1. I have a feeling Canon will have a more pleasing image quality.
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto Год назад
Hey there. The Canon 100mm is an amazing lens and having AF helps for example with videos in certain scenarios but for stills I only use manual focus. The Laowa 90mm’s image quality is superb, it’s an amazingly sharp lens without any colour fringing, great contrast/colour reproduction due to the apochromatic design etc. I’ve got a few videos on that lens as wsll, so feel free to have a look. It’s also considerably cheaper and you might be able to buy another macro lens with a different focal length/magnification ratio etc. or you could buy the NiSi 49mm to boost it’s magnification even further. That is what I use right now: www.venuslens.net/product/laowa-90mm-f-2-8-2x-macro-apo/ref/894/ nisifilters.com.au/product/nisi-close-up-lens-kit-nc-49mm-with-62-and-67mm-adaptors/ref/peterviragphoto/ Good luck!:)
