you caught me lackin but i have to speak up when it's my favorite song. Magdalena stared out, stone peaks disturbing the tranquility of the horizon. A flock of crows marred the blue sky, crossing its breadth in a delicate formation as they wove over the lower buildings in the distance. Her hands closed tighter around the chain wrapped about her fingers, taking a deep breath of the crisp morning air. A desperation brewed in her chest, burning at her insides and threatening to consume her mind as she looked over the monastery. Behind her rose the bell tower, silent at the moment. It would remain so for hours, a thin smile spreading loosely over her lips. Silence. Something she'd learned to practice, something it seemed God himself had decided to practice. She lowered her head, clutching the chain tighter, a small cross dangling on its dulled end brushing against her knuckles. Such sacrilegious thoughts should not be entertained, especially not within the head of a woman of her position. Her faith was meant to be static and solid, unshakable. She was to be the rock to break the wave for those following behind towards the light. And yet she doubted. Was belief really enough to stand between her and this feeling that ripped through her nightly, that burned itself into her every waking thought, enough to cast it away as sin? It was the purest thing she'd ever felt, yet it was impure in the eyes of those she could not even see? Magdalena roused herself, thick and coarse fabric rustling as she shoved up to her feet, hands falling to her sides as the cross dangled at her thigh. She looked up, stealing another deep breath as she stared at the sky, watching a cloud swallow the light above her and consume her in its silver-gilded shadow. - "Where are you going, sister?" "A nightly walk, Elliana. Helps clear the mind for the morning come." "Oh, well do keep warm, it's growing colder." "Of course, enjoy your evening." Magdalena paced down the steps, dressed quietly in a cloak the color of midnight, stealing across the courtyard and through the gate. Once outside she slowed, walking along the cobbled pavement with a strange concoction in her heart. A fervent excitement, a nagging dread, a bubbling anxiety. Her eyes drifted up, running gently across grooves of holes poked into the inky sky. It looked the same no matter from where she saw it, but it seemed to open wider tonight. From the window of her room, to the courtyard, to the edge of the greater city, it always seemed to smile down at them no differently, a small dash of consistency she supposed, something to hold onto. Brushing the pit building in her stomach away, she began to walk faster, coming to the end of the street and dipping into a doorway tucked neatly between two others, a waft of warmer air grasping her and pulling her in. Magdalena paused in the doorway, the familiar scent of cinnamon burning with a different context. The gentler tones of the monastery paled in comparison to the richness, the tones and depth that approached her nose as she removed her coat to hang it by the door. "Cold, hmm?" Came a voice, one that sent shivers down her spine so forcefully that she imagined she had no say in the matter, before the soft patter of feet against wood came near. She made to turn from the rack, before pausing. A gentle set of hands rested themselves on her hips, pulling Magdalena back against a warmer touch that married itself to the curve of her back as easily as water to a basin. "I-It certainly is, Judith." Magdalena said, her voice little more than a whisper in the presence of the woman. Even her silence was a roar, silence afraid to breathe under her gaze as the quietest noises grew significant. From the gentle rasp of wind against the window, to the soft breath against her neck, every sound seemed as though they were vying for her attention. "Well, come, allow me to share a little of the warmth you left me with." Judith whispered, hands running up slowly to grace the ridges of her hips over the robe Magdalena wore, her skin burning underneath the woman's touch. Magdalena could only nod, allowing Judith to turn her about and pull her along. Magdalena would never grow used to the sight, the gentler curves, the tides of lightless hair that fell in beautiful, lightly glossed waves over unblemished and bare shoulders, the rich golden accents and the crimson satin that wrapped itself about Judith's form so effortlessly. She only basked in the moment, Judith's hand in hers, the gentle warmth and tug, it washed over her soul like sunlight. It filled her with a joy so utterly fundamental and pure that it reminded her of the first real breath of the morning. The touch of dew on the trees and the touch of soft fabric swathing her in its embrace in the colder months. Something so guttural, so inseparable from being human that she could only let the riptide tear her from the safety of her shores. Perhaps, she would drown, tangled in the throes of Judith's sheets. Perhaps, she would find that she'd been drowning and was just now breaching that cold, uncaring surface that whispered its annoyance at her with every action she took. Perhaps, she would burn up, torn to shreds and left to hang in limp tatters from Judith's teeth. Perhaps, that was all she could have ever wanted.

My only issues with this song is that I won't get to experience listening to it for the first time again. Just chills all over, the passion and emotion in your voice is beyond what words can say

I still laugh at how misinterpreted this song was when it first blew up. A lot of college kids just heard the Church part and the dramatic Amens without realizing it is a critique on the hypocrisy of the followers of the Weeping God. Anywho. The algorithm sent me hear and I appreciate the fullness of your wonderful voice.

I was also raised in the Catholic faith in a small rural town. When I started questioning my sexuality, I had to Google what a lesbian was. I didn't realize that I was a lesbian until college. I'm graduating from college in a month, and my family still doesn't know that I'm a lesbian because I'm worried about their initial reactions and the reactions of those in my community. I don't want my younger siblings to be ostracized because their oldest sister is gay. This song is so cathartic for me because it was one of the very first times that I realized there might not be anything wrong with me. This cover is absolutely gorgeous and it is officially on repeat.

You’re voice is so powerful! I’m an actress and I often find it hard to sing while truly putting emotion into the lyrics, but its also one of my favorite things about singing. I also love searching for the emotions in others voices, and your voice… HOLY HELL! I can feel it so strongly, you really amaze me! Not to mention your roars and range, spectacular!! I am usually not fond of Hozier covers because his voice is simply phenomenal and otherworldly, but your rendition has me head over heels.
