Your knowledge of the older emo scene is impressive to me, as I’m 31 and grew up with the early 2000s emo. I’d love to hear a video on The Starting Line, Something Corporate, or Cartel.
This makes me so happy. I graduated high school in 2004, joined the army and for the next five years lived in Germany with deployments to Afghanistan, and I didn’t really keep up with any music back home until I came back to the states in 2009, but i had the first two taking back Sunday albums and the first two hawthorne heights albums. They were the soundtracks for my growing up, and a link back home when i was overseas, and i used to worry i was missing out, but looks like i got the best of them in their prime.
Tell All Your Friends was a bunch of kids making music for teens in the best way possible. The album will always have a place in my heart but i do recognize its from a young era and is pure nostalgia for me.
@@bryanbaez4412 recent one sounds like one of they’re best since 2014 he’s calmed a little on the old man thing but that can always change by the end of the tour . Man prolly gets tired .
@@colesmith1178Back in late 2013 when Adam had gotten back in shape and they started playing “Flicker, Fade” and bringing “Number 5 With a Bullet” back into the set I remember thinking “wow, this is the absolute best he has sounded since the New Again cycle”. I think that time (late 2013 thru mid 2014) was his peak vocally. In an alternate universe, that version of Adam is fronting the New Again line up of Taking Back Sunday and I’d pay good money to see it, because the band was overall waaaay tighter with Fazzi and Rubano.
dude, as a taking back sunday fan since I saw the set phasers to stun music video on Fuse in 2006, it was so nice to see someone nerd out super hard on this band. I could listen to another 3 hours lol
07:10 ME!! ITS FOR ME!! lmao. The Tom Petty/Clash/Against Me vibes are a HUUUUGE part of why this became one of my most regularly listened go records from these guys!
Also, I was really bummed when Fred left. When John returned, I was so hyped. I remember they announcing that on the then amazing MySpace. Every album that has come out with the original line up after the reunion has let me down more and more where I don’t even consider myself a fan of TBS anymore. I will continue to enjoy Tell All Your Friends - Louder Now and sometimes New Again.
absolutely agree with WYWTB as the best TBS album, every single song sticks with you and stands out on its own. I'd love to see a track by track of Louder Now or WYWTB if you ever do one!
Bruv! I love this video and agree with your order! I wish you would have talked about the songs you enjoy on Where You Want To Be! You talked about the songs you liked on the other albums but not Where You Want To Be. Loved the video and the clips you used! Sent this video to all of my high school buddies!
you nailed it spot on. with your assessments of Tidal wave and Happiness Is... Taking Back Sunday is my favorite band of all time and the reason i got into the "Emo" scene, though some of there newer stuff isn't all bad I'm always left confused and bored by it... they will always have a special place in my heart.
Yes! New Again is so underrated. It was definitely the last period where I was really jazzed about TBS. And I 100% agree with the number one pick, they were really firing on all cylinders with that album.
The two first albums (released at Victory) will, without a doubt, be the most well-renowned works of the band forever. I love Louder Now, New Again and eponymous but damn bro if I told you how stupendous the mixing and sound quality on those 2 albums I wouldn't be lying I fucking love it. For the last 2 albums all I can say is that they fit when you've grown as a person and as you age you're getting an understanding that some have yet to feel about what life truly means.
I grew up with Where You Want to Be and it's the first TBS album I bought - so i always felt like I'm biased but I'm still happy someone agrees with me.
Honestly I’m really happy you made this vid our lists would differ since my favorite is happiness is . But at the same time yours is a list I can still get down with and really apreaciate tell all Your friends is probably number two for me where you want to be would of been probably much higher for me if it wasn’t for the production and that they kinda had to rush it they wish they’d had more time on it . But still slaps also dope to see new again get so much love , I love that release . At the same time I’m happy tell all your friends you actually put it around 4 cuz people expect them to be the same people from when they’re 17-18 . This is a goat classic Tbs fan list . And even tho your not as big in the new stuff as I am thank you for atleast making sure to say it atleast wasn’t throw away . Everyone is obviously valid in whatever your opinion is . I just really apreaciate this cuz also be 25 in a few months and always felt these guys are underrated as a whole so I’m bias they’re my favorite. Also thanks for opening the TVs conversation you got my sub nobody talks about this band on here in depth even to the extent you just did so thank you . Also yes rubano is goat happy to see him playing with angels and airwaves I saw him live with them before covid
I saw them back in 2006 and they sort of blew my effing head open and pretty much planted the seed for my favorite music to come later in life. I'm more into the old mid 2000"s scene now than when I was growing up
Pretty please cover Thursday , they dont get enough love. By far my favorite lyrics of all time! So talented. TBS and Thursday are actually playing a show this month unfortunately too far away from me but still my dream event.
The only thing that I love about both of them is that they both have days in their names. Overall both are pretty good and I wish Thursday would've gotten more attraction.
Yeah, I got into Thursday in like 2004, and Full Collapse and War All the Time were high school anthems. Definitely the best lyrics out of all early 2000's post hardcore. Glad other people agree. The only other bands close to them are From Autumn to Ashes, Dance Gavin Dance, and As Cities Burn. Although Taking Back Sunday, underOATH, Thrice, Chiodos, and the first 2 Bring Me the Horizon albums will always be guilty pleasures. My music taste is really different now, but every once in a while, it's nice to go back.
absolutely agree on your ranking. Louder now was my graduation album all my memories of being young comes from these early albums. 2006 will always be the end of my childhood. Now Im 33 ... sad
I really like this list, although I disagree with some parts I can understand them all 1 New Again 2 Tell All Your Friends 3 Where you want to be 4 Louder Now 5 Taking Back Sunday 6 Happiness is 7 Tidal Wave
Dude! I loved New Again when it came out and was so afraid to see where you put it. I thought they sounded so good during this era, and Matt Fazzi’s voice is amazing! Live from Orensanz sounds so gooood and it’s because this era was so good. Criminally overlooked album and and era.
1000% agree. I'm a bit older than you and Where You Want To Be was the first album I'd ever pre ordered. I was a Junior in High School. I still listen to this album all the way through and love it. It's not only nostalgia, but great songs, riffs, and emotions. I still say to this day that TBS died when Fred left.
HELL YEAH DUDE! Louder now would be my number one record for TBS' Discography, but I'm so with you about spin being the best track on that album! great video dude
First off and foremost I want to say that this was a great video. I thought it was very well done. You remind me a lot of the early days of The Rock Critic. As far as I have seen this is the only video ranking Taking Back Sunday's albums. I a, kicking around doing it myself. For me, everything after New Again puts me to sleep. I get so bored with it, with the exception of a handful of tracks on Happiness Is. I agree that New Again is incredibly underrated. The first 2 tracks are especially amazing. I'd also put WYWTB at #1. I was lucky enough to catch them on the anniversary tour on a night they played it in full. Keep up the great work!
The reasons given was literally a conversation I had with a friend about that era of emo music in general. There was a LOT like that, and the misogyny REALLY showed up in the local scene.
The b-sides from that album are much stronger than a lot of what ended up on the album. “Money” and “Since You’re Gone” are some of their worst songs while “You Were Right” “Semi-Automatic” and “Mackey Sasser and Steve Balboni Ride Again” are some of their best. The album does still contain some really great songs though.
Let's be honest, I do 100% agree the newer albums don't hit like the older albums!! But TBS has grown up and they ARE dad's now -- life is different and the music has kind of evolved with them lol. I'm gonna ride with them for life though, they have literally been my favorite band since I was 11. Love these videos, thanks Cozy!! :)
Can never overstate how insane it was when their first album dropped. I hadn't really had any experience with punk and thought like Nirvana songs spoke to me but man did TAYF just blow them out of the water for me.
It’d be cool to see your reaction of their new album that comes out this week. Definitely sounds like a different band these days. Also fun fact, the drummer of Breaking Pangea Will ended up with John and Shaun in Straylight Run then also on drums for the Grammy winning band Fun. Kinda of cool where all these guys came from.
literally i thought i was crazy in thinking that Tell All Your Friends was one of the greatest albums of all time. like they really put their foot in that shit. 😂
Saw them with Alkaline Trio not too long ago. I had always liked TBS, nostalgic asf. Definitely surprised by the preacher man stage presence lol. But tbh it was funny and entertaining. I thought it was alright.
My TBS Worst to Best Self-Titled TAYF Happiness Is/Louder Now (tie, depends on the mood I’m in) Tidal Wave Live From Orensanz (honorable mention, such a good live acoustic album) WYWTB/New Again (tie, but like, no mood tied to it. These records were peak TBS creatively and willing to try new stuff)
Matt rubano is criminally underated and carried the band through where you wanna be to new again, prove me wrong (I can't believe he mentioned that in the new again section MATT IS SO GOOD)
Dude I love this ranking. Id put tell all your friends above new again but youre right on the money. In honor of this era. I will now list my favorite Brand new albums. Worst to best. Coming in at number five is Your favorite weapon. Absolutely phenomenal album for nostalgia. Coming in at number four is daisy. Great album excellent talent from everyone it just never made me fall in love. Coming in at three is Deja Entendu. Phenomenal album with massive impact and absolute bangers. Coming in at number two is the devil and god are raging inside of me. I cant even begin to describe how important this album was for me and my brother. Absolutely so fucking good and so fucking dark. Which brings me to Science Fiction! My all time favorite brand new album. They really showed how talented the artists working together on this album are. Waste is an absolute masterpiece. Same logic is probably my all time favorite song of all time. This album really showcased the potential of the band. Its so hard to believe thats the last brand new album of all time. Anyway love your content and this video was awesome.
Crazy but I think Adam's southern accent is his actual accent. If anything, his Long Island accent is the one he developed when he moved to the state. I think the southern influences in their recent music is good though, even refined. (though there are some weird musical choices, speaking as a musician myself)
100% agree with you on Where you want to be as my favorite Taking Back Sunday album. It has aged incredibly well and has so many of my favorite tbs songs. I'm going to go see Tbs, in october and hoping to hear a lot of the classics and a little less of the sheep voice lol
Might be a controversial opinion but I personally think ‘Happiness Is’ is my favourite TBS record. As a younger guy in the scene I never really clicked with their older records but with that one I really did. Just my opinion though!
I remember matt rubano was in guitar world magazine when louder now came out and he said for both records he played every note with one finger and only on the E string. absolute psycho. totally agree with your album ranking
Agree with Self titled aging better. I remember being disappointed when it first came out, but I love it now. Also like New Again more than I once did. Agree with your hot take, tho it's still my go-to during my highest highs and lowest lows. My list: 7. Happiness Is 6. Tidal Wave 5. New Again (man, I miss Matt Rubano) 4. Self-Titled 3. Louder Now (would've been higher but man do I not like Miami and Up Against and the next albums have no skips, but SPIN damn) 2. Where You Want to Be (would've been 1st if Fred sounded like he does in Louder Now; there are some songs where I feel like John's screams are missing, but everything else about this album is a level up from #1) 1. TAYF (Nostalgia wins lol)
